If you're trying to build a consumer-focused corner of your portfolio that can grow through a lot of different economic backdrops, three names stand out right now: Church & Dwight Co. (NYSE: CHD), YETI Holdings (NYSE: YETI), and Newell Brands (NASDAQ: NWL). Each of these is making deliberate moves in 2026 and into 2027 that communicate to me more about their future than any single rocky quarter's earnings line.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
Church & Dwight has built its identity on everyday products like baking soda, laundry detergents, and cleaners that quietly show up in millions of homes. In May 2026, it moved to deepen that footprint by buying the Miss Mouth's Messy Eater brand, a fast-growing, non-toxic stain remover built for parents. It's a small thing on paper, but it fits this successful company's patterns: Keep layering niche, repeat-use products into an existing distribution machine instead of chasing flashy new categories.
The company's first-quarter 2026 update backs that strategy up. Organic sales rose 5% even though reported net sales were basically flat due to past portfolio pruning, per company management. Management described 2026 as a year of "volume-driven" organic growth, meaning they're focused on selling more units to real customers, not just leaning on price increases. On top of that, Church & Dwight extended its long dividend record yet again. Although it is not quite a Dividend King, it has consistently raised its dividend for 29 years.
For investors, my advice here is straightforward: Treat Church & Dwight as a core holding in a consumer bucket. It's unlikely to deliver fireworks in a single year, but it keeps making acquisitions to deepen its understanding of existing categories.

On September 9, 2026, Reuters reported that U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy sent a letter to Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) CEO Jim Farley criticizing the automaker's business relationships with Chinese battery maker CATL and Chinese automakers Geely and BYD as raising "profound concern."
It specifically flagged Ford's licensed CATL battery technology at its Marshall, Michigan plant, its joint venture with Geely in Spain, and its decision not to move Lincoln Nautilus production out of China until 2030. Ford responded that Duffy's letter was "a wrongheaded attempt to capture headlines," noting that it owns the Marshall plant, controls its operations, and employs the workforce there, unlike companies that simply import Chinese-made batteries.
Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) can argue that its CATL partnership still solidifies U.S. battery manufacturing rather than becoming more dependent on Chinese imports. Ford owns and operates its Marshall, Michigan battery plant. It allows the company to manufacture batteries domestically while licensing CATL technology. That structure could help Ford expand its U.S. EV production capacity and reduce the need to import finished Chinese battery packs.
Ford's improving financial performance gives the firm more flexibility to manage the political pressure. The automaker raised its full-year adjusted EBIT guidance to $10 billion-$11 billion after second-quarter results exceeded expectations, with record Bronco sales and a stronger product mix supporting the improvement. Stronger operating earnings could give Ford more resources to adjust its battery strategy if policymakers impose more restrictions on Chinese technology.
The company's existing U.S. manufacturing footprint could become a competitive advantage if Washington tightens restrictions on Chinese automotive technology. Ford has already invested in domestic battery production instead of relying entirely on imported battery packs. Model e losses have narrowed for three consecutive quarters. If policymakers force automakers to cut Chinese supply-chain reliance, Ford can use its existing U.S. factories to adapt faster than rivals that depend heavily on Chinese parts.

The House Ways and Means Committee will consider legislation Wednesday that would exempt some crypto transaction fees from capital-gains calculations and apply new federal tax rules to stablecoins, staking, mining and digital ***** et trading.
Committee Chairman Jason Smith, R-Mo., introduced the 114-page Digital ***** et Tax Certainty Act, or H.R. 10357. The committee has scheduled its markup for 10 a.m. Eastern on Sept. 16.
During a markup, committee members debate a bill, propose amendments, and decide whether to advance it to the full House.
The legislation would create a "de minimis" exemption for qualifying network or transaction fees of $10 or less. De minimis refers to an amount considered too small to require standard tax treatment.
Paying a blockchain fee with crypto can create a taxable event because the IRS treats digital ***** ets as property. The exemption would allow taxpayers to disregard gains or losses on eligible fees.

If you're looking for a place to keep your money, big national banks and online banks aren't your only options. Mutual banks are depositor-owned financial institutions that operate for the benefit of their customers rather than outside shareholders. That structure can translate to competitive rates, lower fees, and a greater focus on the local community — but there are potential drawbacks, too.
Here's how mutual banks work, their pros and cons, and how to decide whether one is right for you.
Mutual savings banks, or mutual banks, offer all the same accounts you can get at other banks, but they have some fundamental differences. These institutions are owned by customers instead of shareholders, and their main focus is on giving you access to savings accounts and mortgages.
Mutual banks, which represent less than 10% of all financial institutions in the U.S., tend to be small. While they may lack some of the conveniences you get with large banks, such as technology-driven services and vast ATM networks, there are some compelling reasons to switch banks and join a mutual institution:

During the August 31 episode of Mad Money, Jim Cramer addressed shifting market dynamics, highlighting how the fallout from heavily crowded hedge fund positions was finally unwinding. Turning his attention to a heavily shorted stock on Wall Street, Cramer pointed to Moderna, Inc. (NASDAQ:MRNA) and explained why skeptics were forced to rethink their thesis. He stated:
Now, I don't want to say that Situational Awareness, again that's the hedge fund, has disappeared. The fund still has some ******* ets. Still, the fallout from its collapse does finally seem to be unwinding. Still, when you look at the 10 best and worst performers for the month, they're stark in their themes that include the unwind of the Situational positions. Let's go over the winners first. First, let's start with a heavily shorted stock known as Moderna. Yes, there was a huge bet being made against these guys. Skeptics believed that its technology would never produce the breakthroughs that the bulls expected and were initially promised when the company came public. But this month, that's exactly what we got. See, working with Merck, Moderna's developed a vaccine for those who have beaten melanoma once. Now, this, my friends, is miraculous. So, it got a miraculous welcome. Do you know what? I think this could still have a huge potential to go higher.
The basis of Moderna, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:MRNA) recent transition is its co-development partnership with Merck. Together, the companies advanced an mRNA-based personalized cancer vaccine designed to prevent melanoma recurrence in patients who have already beaten the disease once.
Beyond oncology, Moderna has worked to diversify its commercial footprint. Management has navigated a sharp post-pandemic revenue drop by tightening operational controls, tightening operating costs, and maintaining a solid cash cushion of $6.9 billion.
Despite the enthusiasm surrounding its cancer pipeline, Moderna, Inc. (NASDAQ:MRNA) remains a high-risk bet. The company continues to post substantial net losses, reporting a quarterly net loss of nearly $0.8 billion, along with heavy research expenditures needed to push its pipeline forward.

When Treasury yields reach multiyear highs, some investors get nervous. Higher bond yields are triggered by lower bond prices, and the effects are felt across the financial spectrum: from investing in stocks and bonds to borrowing costs and savings returns.
Global bond yields are gripping markets, jumping back to their highest level in almost two decades as higher oil prices, inflation fears, and heavy government borrowing continue to add pressure.
Here is how rising Treasury yields could impact your finances, including mortgages, credit cards, and car loans.
The Treasury yield is the return an investor receives for lending money to the government — for example, 4.5% on a 10-year Treasury note.

I'm 84 and my wife is 77, and we are both fully retired. We have no significant financial obligations beyond routine monthly expenses such as food, utilities, taxes, insurance and so forth. Our largest expenses are required minimum distribution-related taxes and annual real-estate taxes, which together run about $7,000 per year.
Our combined net worth is approximately $8 million, most of which is held in separate traditional IRAs — two in my name and two in my wife's name. Our annual income comes from Social Security, RMDs and monthly pensions from previous employers. Our pensions total about $2,200 per month.

After taxes, we reinvest approximately half of our RMDs in a taxable brokerage account. The other half goes into a bank account from which we pay our expenses; it normally maintains a balance of about $45,000. We simply don't seem to need much money. Our relatively minor healthcare expenses are covered by Medicare and Medigap policies.

On August 10, Jefferies downgraded Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) to underperform from hold, cutting its price target to $263.66 from $285.56, implying roughly a 16% downside from Friday's close of $313.33. ******* yst Edison Lee said supply chain checks show Apple has canceled its planned all-glass 20th-anniversary iPhone, expected to launch in September 2027, due to poor production yield. Jefferies also trimmed its fiscal 2028 earnings forecast by 2.1%. Shares fell about 1.3% to 1.5% on the news.
Jefferies says Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has quietly canceled its marquee anniversary iPhone just as component costs are spiking industry-wide. That adds to a growing pile of Wall Street skepticism and raises a real question: is this the start of genuine cracks in Apple's pricing power, or just one bearish call against a stock still up double digits this year?
As of August 7, Apple is still up over 15% year-to-date, and the vast majority of Wall Street remains bullish, with 30 of 47 covering ******* ysts rating the stock buy or strong buy. The foldable iPhone debuting next month is Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)'s biggest hardware redesign ever and gives the company a genuine new premium price anchor even with the all-glass model shelved. Despite an industry-wide memory shortage pushing prices higher across the smartphone market, Apple's brand loyalty gives it real room to pass through modest increases. Yahoo Finance tech editor Dan Howley noted that a roughly $100 price ******* p, spread across a phone's life and paid monthly, may not be enough to meaningfully change how people buy.
Six ******* ysts now carry sell-equivalent ratings on Apple, tying the highest count since 2012, and the stock's consensus recommendation of 3.88 out of 5 is its lowest since 2019. Fewer than 60% of ******* ysts recommend buying, well below megacap peers Microsoft, Amazon, and Nvidia, which are all backed by more than 90% of covering ******* ysts.
Jefferies argues the canceled all-glass model shows that "introducing new form factors" to justify higher prices is "more difficult than expected." The foldable iPhone is now the only near-term booster of higher prices. However, surging memory costs could push its starting price above $2,000, which Jefferies itself warns could make it a niche product with limited sales impact. This follows an earlier disappointment too: a soft sales forecast linked to component shortages already knocked the stock about 8% off its recent peak.

Enterprise software companies built their businesses around one ******* umption that went unquestioned for decades. People are the users. Employees log in, click through interfaces, update records and move between applications. The software earns its seat license because a human being sits in front of it.
That ******* umption is starting to crack. AI agents are becoming capable of retrieving information, making decisions and executing workflows on behalf of employees. The question circulating across enterprise software boardrooms is what happens to the business model when the human in the browser tab is no longer the primary user.
Salesforce is already confronting this. In April, the company launched Headless 360 at its TrailblazerDX conference. The architecture exposes every Salesforce capability as an API, MCP tool, or CLI command so that AI agents can access data, workflows, and business logic without opening a browser.
Co-founder Parker Harris framed it directly: "Why should you ever log into Salesforce again?"
That question points at something counterintuitive. The screens may matter less. The systems underneath may matter more.

On Monday's CNBC Mad Money episode, host Jim Cramer examined the top-performing stocks in the S&P 500, focusing on the dramatic turnaround in IT consulting leaders Cognizant Technology Solutions Corporation (NASDAQ:CTSH) and Accenture plc (NYSE:ACN). Addressing how market sentiment shifted around the "AI displacement trade," Cramer outlined how both stocks surged despite long-standing Wall Street skepticism:
I want to focus on the 10 best and 10 worst performers of the S&P 500, give you a better sense of the situation; maybe there's some opportunities here for you. When you look at the biggest winners, many of them were the former victims of AI displacement, the AI displacement trade we call it. The best performers, for instance, were Cognizant Tech and Accenture, two tech consulting firms that were up nearly 43% and 33%, respectively. These two have spent years drifting lower as Wall Street ***** umes they've lost their mojo in the age of Claude and ChatGPT. Now look, I never believed wholeheartedly in that thesis, but it never seemed to matter whether I believed it or not. Just last month, Cognizant announced an expanded partnership with Anthropic and Accenture unveiled a whole suite of agentic AI solutions that it's selling in combination with Google Cloud... In the end, it's all about sentiment though. When Accenture reported a not-so-hot quarter in June, its stock got clobbered and took Cognizant down with it. Then in late July, Cognizant reported a very similar set of numbers and both stocks roared. Now, I want to see better numbers from these two... But if they can stabilize the results, the stocks are very cheap.
As Cramer pointed out, the narrative that generative AI platforms like ChatGPT and Claude would disrupt traditional enterprise IT consultancies drove both stocks lower. However, recent commercial developments show that enterprise adoption of artificial intelligence requires extensive integration, data security, and customization, which position both companies as implementation partners rather than victims of automation.
While both IT consultancies have benefited from the broader unwind of the AI displacement narrative, their recent market performance and strategic focus reveal notable differences. Cognizant Tech (NASDAQ:CTSH) outperformed Accenture plc (NYSE:ACN) during the recent S&P 500 rally, posting a gain of nearly 43% compared to Accenture plc's (NYSE:ACN) 33% advance. At the same time, Cognizant Tech (NASDAQ:CTSH) trades at around a 12x forward multiple compared to Accenture plc's (NYSE:ACN) 11.2x forward price-to-earnings ratio.

Amazon's (NASDAQ: AMZN) second-quarter earnings had investors on edge, fixated above all else on the company's capital expenditure (capex) outlook. This figure came in at roughly $220 billion for the full year, a meaningful increase from the previously stated $200 billion. According to management, higher memory costs are driving the surge.
The question hanging over Amazon's financials is whether such heavy spending can still be justified. During the earnings call, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy made some comments that offer a pointed answer.

Heavy capital spending and free cash flow are linked by a simple accounting equation. Free cash flow equals cash generated from operations minus capital expenditures. When Amazon accelerates investment in data center infrastructure and servers, capex rises and free cash flow compresses.
In the trailing 12 months that ended with the second quarter, Amazon's free cash flow swung to an outflow of $7.6 billion. The swing was driven by a $66.1 billion year-over-year increase in property and equipment purchases, the bulk of which was tied to artificial intelligence infrastructure.
