On the Sept. 3, 2026 episode of The Ramsey Show, a Houston caller named Nathan asked whether he should use his savings to clear a mortgage he described as a "whatever, 2% mortgage or something." He had about $280,000 left on it and roughly $346,000 in liquid ******* ets, most of it cash and the rest in a taxable brokerage account. Dave Ramsey told him to do it, and to do it that night.
Five months earlier, Ramsey had told a caller in almost the same position the opposite. On April 1, 2026, a web engineer earning around $600,000 a year called in about three weeks after being laid off, sitting on enough cash to clear a San Francisco, California mortgage. "When you're in the middle of a storm, you do temporary things," Ramsey said. "Hold on to the cash. We're not gonna pay off the house because we may not be staying in the house."

Iran is increasingly using cryptocurrencies to settle cross-border trade as the country faces intensifying U.S. sanctions and a naval blockade, the Financial Times reported on Sep. 8.
A cryptocurrency is a digital currency that runs on a blockchain, a shared public ledger, allowing money to move across borders without passing through the traditional banking system.

I keep hearing people say they want to own Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) stock but are waiting for a better price, and I understand the instinct, because the stock has swung between $297.38 to $498.83 over the past year. Now, the company hasn't disclosed the customer or the specific size of the contract, but management described the deal as significant. And while I'm not typically keen on ambiguity, the announcement of this deal does provide some interesting intel about demand.

Aug 14 (Reuters) - Silver Lake's potential Workday buyout could bolster battered software valuations by showing that private equity remains confident in ‌the industry's prospects despite fears of AI disruption, **** ysts and investors ‌said on Friday.
Shares of the human-resources and financial management software company soared nearly 18% on Thursday after Reuters exclusively reported about its acquisition talks with Silver Lake, which pushed its market value to more than $51 billion.
The enthusiasm provided some relief to a sector hammered this year by fears that AI tools capable of generating computer code and ‌creating applications could erode ⁠the need for software services, which have long been one of Silicon Valley's most reliable cash generators.
"If Silver Lake ultimately takes ⁠Workday private at a substantial premium, it would be one of the strongest pieces of evidence yet that the public market has overshot in discounting traditional enterprise software because of AI," Brian Mulberry, client portfolio manager at Zacks Investment Research.

Altria Group (NYSE:MO) sells cigarettes, oral nicotine pouches, and vapor products to adult tobacco users in the US. It's the parent of Marlboro, still the country's top-selling cigarette brand. The stock showed up in Donald Trump's disclosed portfolio, and it's easy to see the appeal: over 50 straight years of dividend increases and a business that doesn't move much with the economic cycle.
Altria stock is up around 25% year to date. Over the trailing 12 months, the stock is up about 24%, ahead of the market's 19% gain. Only Philip Morris, up 21% YTD, comes close among the major tobacco names. British American Tobacco and ***** an Tobacco are each up 10%.
Altria's Q1 2026 earnings beat expectations on both lines. Net revenue grew 3.2% year over year mostly from pricing, not volume. Adjusted diluted EPS grew 7.3%, up from 4.4% growth in 2025.
The volume story is also improving. Altria's smokeable segment declined just 4% in Q1 2026, down sharply from a 12% decline a year earlier. On the oral tobacco side, on! PLUS nicotine pouches rolled out nationwide in March and are now in roughly 100,000 stores, covering 85% of the nicotine pouch category by volume. On!'s own volume grew 17.6% year-over-year in Q1, after growing 11% for all of 2025. It's also the first product authorized under the FDA's streamlined pilot review program for oral nicotine pouches.

Jade Gas has signed a non-binding agreement to secure an estimated A$1.1bn ($771m) in funding for phase one development at the Red Lake coal bed methane project in Mongolia.
The collaboration agreement has been signed with Beijing Energy Linking (PTBEL) and its consortium partners.
This step follows a period of operational and regulatory progress for Jade Gas, notably approval of the appraisal report for the Red Lake project in April.
Under the collaboration agreement, PTBEL has been named as lead contractor. It will appoint either or both PetroChina and Hunan Geology & Mining Technology as subcontractors.
The initial phase involves drilling 175 wells, representing approximately 20% of the total planned drilling across the 60km² Red Lake Development Area.
