It was already public knowledge that there was one bidder for an NBA expansion team in Seattle: One Roof Sports and Entertainment, the majority owner of the NHL's Seattle Kraken, led by Samantha Holloway.
Now, there is a second, reports Christian Clark and John Hollinger of The Athletic:
BlackSun Private Equity, a New York-based firm that in August submitted a bid to bring the NBA back to Seattle, is working with the Tulalip Tribes to build the arena on tribal-owned land if it secures the franchise.
Those new arena plans would be in Marysville, Washington, which is about 35 miles from Seattle. The plans are not just to build an arena but also an "entertainment district" on the tribal lands. The challenge would be making the commute relatively easy and convincing people in Seattle proper to make the trip out to Marysville.
Both potential ownership groups have been eager to say they want to bring a team to stay in the Seattle area, after the previous SuperSonics were bought and moved to Oklahoma City in 2008.

Kraken Robotics (OTC: KRKNF) stock has been struggling lately. The company's share price hit a lifetime high of $8.13 per share in March, soon after it was announced that the marine technologies company was acquiring Covelya for 615 million Canadian dollars, but its stock has now lost more than half of its value since hitting that valuation peak.
Valuation multiples for next-generation defense tech companies have generally come down in subsequent trading. Investors are concerned about the potential integration risks with the Covelya acquisition, and the company's recent second-quarter report showed relatively modest growth. As a result, Kraken stock is now trading down roughly 21% year-to-date and 55% from its 2026 high.

Payward, the parent company of U.S. cryptocurrency exchange Kraken, has again delayed its initial public offering (IPO).

Calling all crypto-heads! Last week, crypto exchange operator Kraken announced the Krak Card, a debit instrument that provides cashback in either traditional U.S. dollars or cryptocurrency.
This isn't the first crypto cashback plastic on the scene and, given the recent upswing in digital coinage, probably not the last. Here's a brief look at the card and this interesting new niche of the payment card market.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
Kraken, which isn't publicly traded but has filed the regulatory documentation necessary for an IPO, announced the Krak Card last week. The cashback feature returns from 0% to 2% (depending on the user's total holdings across the Kraken network) on every purchase. It's affected by either greenbacks or Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC).
The company's timing was fortuitous. The day after it formally announced its product, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the Treasury would, at a minimum, double its regular repurchases of relatively long-term government debt securities.

The revenue mix continued to shift. ****** et-based and other revenue rose to 60% of total revenue from 55% a year earlier, while funded accounts climbed 42% to 6.6 million. ****** ets on the platform stood at $40 billion, with Payward citing stronger momentum in the European Economic Area following MiCA authorization.

In Bitcoin news today, shareholders of Satsuma Technology voted by more than 90% on Monday to sell the company's remaining 668 BTC, worth roughly $43.5M at current prices, and to cancel its LSE delisting, overruling four of six board members and formally ending a Bitcoin treasury experiment that lasted less than 12 months.
The decision crystallizes one of the sharper destructions of investor capital in the UK crypto ******* e: against the £163.6M raised in August 2025, shareholders now expect to recover between £26.8M and £30M after wind-down costs, less than 20 pence on the pound.
This latest Bitcoin Treasury firm news dropped as BTC climbed a modest +0.4% overnight, dropping under $66,000 since yesterday but still trading at $65,700, with a daily trading volume of $31.8Bn.
Satsuma started life as TAO Alpha, a small AI firm, before rebranding and pivoting to a Bitcoin treasury accumulation strategy. In August 2025, it hired Mark Moss, an American Bitcoin commentator with over 700,000 YouTube subscribers, as Chief Bitcoin Strategist.
The firm then raised £163.6M through convertible notes led by ParaFi Capital, with Pantera Capital, Digital Currency Group, and Kraken participating. Some investors contributed 1,097 BTC directly in place of roughly $97M in cash.

LAS VEGAS — Like the process itself, news on the NBA's updated plans for expansion doesn't come rushing out like water from a fire hose. More like measured amounts from a faucet, somewhat slow and steady, making sure it doesn't overflow the glass.

Commissioner Adam Silver did address expansion during his meeting with reporters Tuesday evening at the Thomas & Mack Center following the Board of Governors meeting in Las Vegas. And while Silver acknowledged the process remains ongoing, he gave no timetable or real update on those who are bidding for both the Las Vegas and Seattle expansion franchises, where things stand at the moment or a specific timetable as to when an announcement can be expected.

In other words, let the guessing game continue.

What Silver did say was he was optimistic the process could reach its conclusion sometime in December and that there is a deadline approaching for those interested to submit their bids with their financials to the league where its bankers will go over the individual bids before reporting back to the owners.

“I’m still hopeful this process will be wrapped up by year’s end,” Silver said, though he didn’t say when the deadline specifically was for submitting bids.

There are at least six known groups interested in obtaining the expansion rights for the Las Vegas franchise and there could be more by the time the deadline for bidding passes. Among them are some familiar names — Jerry Colangelo, Bill Foley, Magic Johnson, Bob Iger, Marc Lasry — that intend to vie for the rights to bring the NBA here. All claim they have the funding to meet the NBA’s price tag, which at minimum is expected to be $8 billion. All except Foley have plans to construct an arena to house the Las Vegas team while Foley is prepared to invest $300 million in upgrades to T-Mobile Arena, home to his NHL Vegas Golden Knights and a facility he owns 15 percent of.

In Seattle, the lone bidder to go public so far is Samantha Holloway, chairperson of the ownership group of the Seattle Kraken and has Bill Gates’ former wife Melinda as an investor. The Kraken ownership group also owns the majority interest in Climate Pledge Arena, where the basketball team would likely play. Silver did caution that there is additional interest in both Seattle and Las Vegas from parties which have not yet made their intentions public.

But it’s here in Las Vegas where the intrigue is. The NBA owners are well versed in knowing Colangelo from his days with the Phoenix Suns, Lasry from his time owning the Milwaukee Bucks, Magic Johnson from his prior connection to the Lakers (he also is part of the current ownership of the WNBA’s L.A. Sparks) and some of the owners know Foley through the NHL. So there are few surprises when it comes to vetting these potential ownership groups.

“It gives me a lot of confidence to see first-hand the amount of interest in the game in Las Vegas,” Silver said. “In terms of the process for potential expansion here, multi

He's coming off a solid campaign with the Seattle Kraken, but it hasn't yet propelled him to a new opportunity.
It has some hockey fans on social media starting to question what the deal is.
Tolvanen is 27, and it seems safe to expect him to at least be this player for a few more seasons, right?

NEW YORK (AP) — The NHL's is exploring potential expansion to Texas with Houston and Austin among the possibilities, a person with knowledge of the decision told The ***** ociated Press on Tuesday.
The league's Board of Governors had their annual post-Stanley Cup Final and pre-draft meeting on Tuesday in New York. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the expansion consideration had not been announced. ESPN and Sportsnet were first to report the move.
While there is no guarantee the NHL adds a 33rd team, it is a first step toward becoming the largest professional sports league in North America, surpassing the NFL. Commissioner Gary Bettman in recent years has been careful to say officials were listening to expressions of interest from prospective owners in places like Houston and Atlanta but not yet engaged in a formal path toward expansion.
The league last expanded to 32 with the Seattle Kraken beginning play in 2021 after the Vegas Golden Knights started in the 2017-18 season. Before that, there had been 30 teams since 2000, when Columbus and Minnesota entered.
The most recent successes, combined with booming franchise values across sports, spurred talk of expansion in hockey circles, especially because expansion fees could exceed $1 billion. Seattle paid $650 million and Las Vegas $500 million.

Seattle has had a banner year for a North American sports city.
Since last June, the Seahawks won the Super Bowl in football, the Mariners made the ALCS and were closer than they've ever been to the World Series in baseball, and the Sounders won the Leagues Cup in soccer. The Kraken and Storm are rebuilding, and the city also has the Reign and the Washington Huskies. The city's had rumors of an NBA return swirling that could become a reality in the near future, too.
However, the United States Men's National Soccer Team (USMNT) playing a home FIFA World Cup match in Lumen Field—rebranded as "Seattle Stadium" during the tournament due to FIFA's sponsor exclusivity rules—became one of the biggest sporting events in the city's history last weekend.
Although the Seahawks just entered their offseason period, franchise legend Marshawn Lynch kept them well-represented ahead of Saturday's USA vs Australia World Cup Match in the fan-led March to the Match.
Like Lynch, Seattle Sports culture became beloved by the entire nation on matchday.

SEATTLE — Few NHL teams are located in cities farther away from Sunrise, Florida, than Mackie Samoskevich's new employer.
Samoskevich, previously of the Florida Panthers, was traded to the Seattle Kraken for the No. 25 pick this year and a second-rounder next year, which the Panthers then flipped to Ottawa for Brady Tkachuk hours later. The Kraken also re-signed fellow forward Bobby McMann to a long-term contract.
Thankfully for the 23-year-old Samoskevich, his twin sister, Maddy, can give him plenty of tips on how to make the cross-continent move.
Maddy, who played college hockey in Connecticut at Quinnipiac, is a defender for the Vancouver Goldeneyes of the Professional Women's Hockey League.
"With her only being a couple hours away, it's definitely a topic that came up right away," Samoskevich said on a Zoom call. "I'll be able to see her a little more, which will be great."

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The PWHL’s expansion team in Las Vegas made it official on Monday by naming Kim Weiss as coach.
The 37-year-old Weiss makes the jump to the women’s game after completing her second season as an **** istant with the American Hockey League's Colorado Eagles. The team lost Game 7 of the AHL Western Conference finals to Chicago last week.
Weiss becomes the PWHL’s fourth women’s coach entering next season, doubling the league’s total from last season — with Vancouver still having a vacancy. In Colorado, Weiss was the second woman to be a full-time **** istant in the NHL or AHL, joining now-former Seattle Kraken **** istant Jessica Campbell.

Bitcoin Price Prediction: Powell’s Final Fed Meeting Just Triggered the Most Dissenting Votes Since ...

Bitcoin price is bleeding, BTC trades at $76,000, down 1.75% over 24 hours and 2.15% over the past week, a slide that’s accelerating bearish prediction on macro headwinds most traders didn’t fully price in.
Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s final press conference Wednesday delivered the catalyst.
Bitcoin dropped 2% to $75,000 in the immediate aftermath as markets absorbed a fractured Fed decision, four dissents on a single vote, the most since October 1992, according to Kraken chief economist Thomas Perfumo.
“The absence of a clean handoff to Warsh suggests the potential for discord over policy at the Fed,” Perfumo said in a note shared with DL News.
Traders responded by dumping $138 million in spot Bitcoin ETFs following the meeting, reversing a chunk of April’s recovery. That’s a notable reversal given the roughly $2 billion that poured into Bitcoin ETFs this month, April remains BTC’s best month since October.
