At Akron's football home opener against Robert Morris, one Zips season-ticker holder will get to draw up the team's opening drive. That's due to an unconventional promotion by the school: Purchase season tickets to enter a random drawing to script the first offensive play on Sept. 12.
The stunt has gone viral, with the initial X/Twitter post of the Zips' offer garnering more than 16 million views in the first 24 hours. But beyond its social media splash, the promotion has become a major ticket-sale success story for Akron football.

New research from GoTo and Workplace Intelligence makes the paradox explicit. The Pulse of Work in 2026 study, which surveyed 2,500 employees and IT decision-makers across ten countries, found that employees save more than two hours per day using AI tools. But the same study found that 60% of employees feel pressured to use AI to boost productivity, 50% say they rely on it too much, and 39% say that reliance is making them less intelligent. The productivity gain and the human performance cost are arriving simultaneously. Most organizations are only tracking one of them.
An ActivTrak's ***** ysis of 443 million hours of work activity across more than 1,100 organizations found that AI doubled time spent on email and messaging while focused deep work fell by 9%. A Harvard Business Review study published earlier this year found that after AI adoption, workers operated at a faster pace, took on a broader scope of tasks, and extended work into more hours of the day, often without being asked. The tools are generating more activity while depleting the capacity for the high-quality thinking that makes that activity valuable.

Palantir blew past Wall Street's financial targets in its second quarter and forecast strong growth in the coming months, sending its stock surging 13% in after-hours trading on Monday.
Revenue in the three months ended June 30 increased 93% year over year, totaling $1.94 billion, compared with the $1.801 billion that ***** ysts were expecting. "Our business is compounding at a rate and scale that we have never before witnessed," Palantir CEO Alex Karp said in a letter to shareholders, noting that Palantir's second-quarter net income was more than the company generated in total revenue the year before.
The AI software company also issued another bullish outlook. Palantir expects third-quarter revenue of $2.160 billion to $2.164 billion and adjusted income from operations of $1.292 billion to $1.296 billion. Members of a youth football team from war-torn Ukraine have been welcomed by Leeds United as part of week of sporting and cultural activities in the city.
Leeds and Kharkiv became official partner cities shortly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, with the aim of creating what was described as a "lasting international bond" between them.
Under 15s players from FC Metalist Kharkiv kicked off their visit with a training session led by Leeds United coach and former Premier League star Brian Deane.
Deane said: "I like to think that sport overcomes everything and it's been an absolute pleasure to be involved."
Despite more than 30 hours travelling from their home city, and the challege of a language barrier, the players were quick to respond to the coaching session by the Premier League side.

In his last seven starts (34 1/3 innings), he owns a rough 6.55 ERA with a 1.60 WHIP, and he's been striking guys out at a much lower rate with just 20 Ks in this time span.
There may have been at least one explanation for Tuesday's disaster. After the game, manager Will Venable said Davis Martin was tipping his pitches, an issue catcher Kyle Teel identified during the game and brought to the coaching staff's attention. That doesn't erase Martin's recent struggles, but it does provide some context for why Boston's hitters looked so comfortable from the opening inning.
Martin's recent inconsistency is still worth monitoring. While tipping pitches may have contributed to Tuesday's outing, his results over the past several starts have been uneven. His recent inconsistencies were one of the main reasons I was hoping Chris Getz would trade for another starting pitcher before Monday's deadline, especially when everyone not named Sean Burke is a wild card when they start. Before the All-Star break — through June, really — Davis looked like he was approaching ace status, but he has been regressing lately, and it's hard to imagine how he would perform in a playoff game at this moment in time. I'm still optimistic, and I've not given up on him by any means, but if we are being realistic, there's quite a bit of uncertainty around his performance for the remainder of the season.
Right off the bat, Nick Sogard rattled Martin with a leadoff double off the Green Monster, then hit Ceddanne Rafaela square in the back on a curveball that got away to put two runners on. Davis navigated an out on a deep fly that advanced the runners, but back-to-back base hits from Willson Contreras and Masataka Yoshida scored the first run for the Red Sox, 1-0, and then loaded the bases with just one out. His recent inconsistencies were one of the main reasons I was hoping Chris Getz would trade for another starting pitcher before Monday's deadline, especially when everyone not named Sean Burke is a wild card when they start. Before the All-Star break — through June, really — Davis looked like he was approaching ace status, but he has been regressing lately, and it's hard to imagine how he would perform in a playoff game at this moment in time. I'm still optimistic, and I've not given up on him by any means, but if we are being realistic, there's quite a bit of uncertainty around his performance for the remainder of the season.
Right off the bat, Nick Sogard rattled Martin with a leadoff double off the Green Monster, then hit Ceddanne Rafaela square in the back on a curveball that got away to put two runners on. Davis navigated an out on a deep fly that advanced the runners, but back-to-back base hits from Willson Contreras and Masataka Yoshida scored the first run for the Red Sox, 1-0, and then loaded the bases with just one out. Naturally, Caleb Durbin demolished the second pitch he saw for a grand slam over the Green Monster in left, increasing the Boston lead to five, 5-0.

Nate Rouette and his brother Nelson went shark fishing on Cape Cod hoping for an exciting catch, but were shocked by what they reeled in -- a tropical species of shark with a reputation for eating everything it can swallow.
The brothers, longtime sport fishermen who live in Massachusetts, released a juvenile tiger shark in late July after catching it from a beach. The five-foot shark is far more common in warmer, southern waters such as the Caribbean Sea, and scientists said its appearance off Falmouth, Massachusetts, is an indicator of warming seas caused by climate change.
Nate and Nelson said the late-night catch was a thrill after hours of seeking far more common brown sharks.
"And I saw those horizontal lines, indicating it was a tiger shark, which was super cool," said Nate, who is the social media manager for On The Water magazine. "Immediately I started yelling to my brother, 'It's a tiger, it's a tiger shark!' And he was in disbelief."
The Rouette brothers caught a young specimen of a shark that can grow to more than 15 feet (4.6 meters) and 1,400 pounds (635 kilograms). Tiger sharks eat a wide array of other ocean life, including fish, crustaceans and birds, and are famous for sometimes eating man-made items such as old license plates and shoes that are later found in their stomachs. The adults are also more dangerous to humans than most shark species, though unprovoked fatal bites are rare.

BOSTON (AP) — Adley Rutschman was still adjusting less than 24 hours after being traded for the first time in his career.
Being in playoff contention may make for a smoother transition once the three-time All-Star catcher is ready to take the field for the Red Sox after spending his first four-plus seasons with the Baltimore Orioles.
"Just from playing here, the city loves baseball. It always has a great atmosphere and I'm excited to play in it," Rutschman said Tuesday at Fenway Park before the Red Sox hosted the Chicago White Sox. "They're playing the game the right way and doing things right. It was cool to watch from a distance. Now being here, like I said — just trying to fit in and help out any way I can."
Rutschman joined his new club on the injured list with left wrist inflammation. He and Boston interim manager Chad Tracy said Rutschman would meet with the team's medical staff to determine what's next in his rehabilitation and how soon he could be back behind the plate.
Tracy said Rutschman is already swinging a bat and the Red Sox were hopeful to add him to their lineup soon. Boston also wasn't about to rush the recovery of a player that cost it a handful of top prospects in a deal pulled off shortly before Monday's trade deadline.
