London-based Velocity has raised an additional $10 million, extending its Series A to $48 million at a $200 million post-money valuation, with participation from Visa Ventures, Circle Ventures, and Ripple. The fresh capital will fund infrastructure connecting stablecoins to existing payment networks, settlement systems, and corporate treasury operations.
The extension follows a $38 million Series A announced in July, which CEO Eric Queathem said was oversubscribed. Haun Ventures, Translink Capital, and Mirana Ventures also joined the extension round, pushing the total investor list well beyond typical crypto-native venture backers into strategic corporate money from a card network and a stablecoin issuer directly.
Velocity's platform lets payment companies and banks use stablecoins for settlement, liquidity, and treasury operations without ripping out the systems they already run. That's a deliberate scope: the company is targeting the layer connecting issuers, card networks, acquirers, and merchants, not the wallet consumers see.
Stablecoin circulation has grown past $300 billion, with usage expanding from crypto-exchange dollar transfers into payments, cross-border transfers, and corporate treasury work, the exact seam Velocity is trying to occupy.

Coinbase (NASDAQ: COIN), one of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchanges, recently partnered with Moov, a payments infrastructure provider, to bring stablecoin payments and settlements to more than 1,000 U.S. community banks and credit unions. By integrating Coinbase's digital ******* et infrastructure into Moov's payments platform, the two companies will enable those financial institutions to accept stablecoins without building their own blockchains.
Let's see how this partnership could help Coinbase, why everyone is talking about stablecoins right now, and how the upcoming vote on the CLARITY Act could impact those plans.

Stablecoins are cryptocurrencies pegged to a stable fiat currency, such as the U.S. dollar or the euro, and can be held without a bank account. Their payments can be settled 24/7, enabling faster, cheaper money transfers than fiat currencies. They can be deposited in third-party lending platforms and liquidity pools to earn higher yields than traditional bank accounts.
Stablecoins can also allow people in countries with hyperinflation to preserve their savings without buying the underlying fiat currencies. They can also be used to accelerate cross-border transfers by acting as a "bridge currency" between the two fiat currencies.

The I-35 Rivalry returns to San Marcos, as Texas State football hosts UTSA on Saturday in a clash between two of Texas' biggest midmajor programs.
The Bobcats' rise has coincided with increased success against the Roadrunners. Head coach GJ Kinne has led Texas State to two straight wins over UTSA and his former mentor, Jeff Traylor, after a 20-13 loss in Kinne's debut year. The Bobcats handed the Roadrunners a 49-10 drubbing last time they met in San Marcos, and Traylor made it clear in the days leading up to the game that he hasn't forgotten that embarrassment.
MORE: Is Texas State football or UTSA favored? The I-35 Rivalry's keys to victory
Although Texas State was thoroughly outmatched against Texas in Week 1, there were a few positive takeaways. There is no doubt in the offense led by quarterback Brad Jackson and his dynamic wide receiver duo of Chris Dawn Jr. and Beau Sparks, but the defense left a lot to be desired. UTSA quarterback Owen McCown and running back Will Henderson will test how effective Texas State's offseason changes were in improving the unit that has been its kryptonite the past three seasons.
Traylor adjusted his offseason approach, bringing in veteran transfers and a new offensive coordinator. UTSA kept things vanilla against UTRGV last week and will likely have some nasty surprises for Texas State. Here are live updates from the I-35 Rivalry.

It should surprise exactly no one that players, who were out of eligibility under NCAA rules, going through NFL training camp and filing lawsuits to play college football for another year was the last straw.
A week later, the Protect College Sports Act, dead in the water a month ago, is close to passing the Senate because the chaos finally got to be too much. It is, according to Team Chaos, bad for athletes.
It appears Sen. Thune has enough votes to pass the Protect College Sports Act.

Last night, I contacted many U.S. Senators’ offices to tell them the truth about the bill.

The PCSA is bad for athletes. A lot of money is being spent in an effort to convince people otherwise. pic.twitter.com/tShgI0sp9T
This is what happens when you make everybody despise you.
When your position is that you have to have megaconferences, more ******* ding of revenue by the conferences at the top, a stupid college basketball Thanksgiving week event in Las Vegas backed by all the worst people in existence (the Emiratis and David Ellison chief among them), more private equity backing, more helmet games, unlimited transfers, unlimited tampering with mid-major rosters, unlimited college eligibility and freedom to go back and forth between college and the pros as you please, all so that athletes can maximize their earnings…

Sen. Ted Cruz got a rough welcome from the College GameDay crowd in Austin.
Cruz appeared on ESPN's Saturday morning pregame show ahead of No. 4 Texas' matchup vs. No. 1 Ohio State and was met with loud boos while discussing the Protect College Sports Act, according to Sports Illustrated. Video shared by Awful Announcing showed the Texas Republican being booed during the segment, with some in the crowd chanting, "Ted, you suck!"
ESPN had Ted Cruz on 'College GameDay' in a conversation with Rece Davis for nearly 10 minutes.

The segment lasted nearly 10 minutes, according to Awful Announcing, and featured Cruz speaking with host Rece Davis about the college sports bill.
The Protect College Sports Act is a federal proposal backed by Cruz and Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., aimed at setting national rules around college athletics, including name, image and likeness deals, transfers and eligibility. Cruz has argued the bill is needed to bring order to college sports, while critics have raised concerns over athlete compensation and federal involvement.

A fourth nine-figure signing? One club has slapped enormous valuations on their players - and that will hit Liverpool.
Liverpool have spent unprecedented amounts of cash in the last two summers. They've gone from zero nine-figure signings to three a little over a year, completely reshaping their attack with elite talent.
Now, it should be said that the transfers haven't quite delivered yet. Liverpool took a giant step backwards last season and are trying to get back on track in this campaign under Andoni Iraola.
And we should stress that the squad building process is not done. Richard Hughes has left behind a very imbalanced squad, one which lacks a right-winger as well as midfield depth.
The Reds must re-enter the market in 2027 to correct things, then, and they've naturally had a look at three players from Iraola's former club, Bournemouth. However, none of those players are coming cheap.

Hours before its fourth game of the season, Pasadena High School (California) announced that it is canceling the rest of its 2026 varsity high school football season.
The school hopes to play its remaining games on a junior varsity-only schedule. The Bulldogs — who won the CIF Southern Section football championship for the first time since 1933 in 2024 — cited concerns about player safety as the reason.
Starting with Friday, Sept. 11's, matchup against Monrovia, Pasadena will forfeit the remaining seven games on its varsity schedule. The team lost 21 seniors from a team that went 6-5 in 2025.
The Pasadena Unified School District sent an email to the parents of players on the team on Friday, citing the loss of ten potential starters transferring out of district.
"As you know, we began the football season with a young and enthusiastic varsity team that now has 46 members," the school district said in its statement. "During the off-season, ten potential starters transferred to schools outside the district. These transfers affected the team's collective skill and experience level.

Fantasy Premier League returns for Gameweek 4, so here are our essential FPL tips on the what transfers to make, which chips to use and who are the best captains.
FPL Gameweek 4 deadline: Saturday, 12th September, 1.30pm BST
The Football Faithful FPL league code: zog9n6
It's not often I would suggest betting against a defence that is yet to concede a goal, but I'm going to go out on a limb and predict Hull City won't keep a clean sheet against Chelsea this weekend.
The Blues have been absolutely electric in attack, scoring more goals (8) than any other Premier League team after three games. And their first-choice attackers came off the bench to score six goals against Leeds United in the League Cup in midweek.

After three rounds of the 2026/27 season, FPL managers have more information to work with, but there is still plenty of uncertainty. Some players are emerging as must-own ******* ets, while others are being transferred out after disappointing starts.
That makes Gameweek 4 an important week for making smart decisions rather than simply chasing last week's points.
This complete FPL GW4 guide brings together everything you need before the deadline, including the biggest lessons from Gameweek 3, the best transfers to consider, captaincy options, differential picks, predicted lineups, clean-sheet targets and our Scout Picks.
Gameweek 4 begins on Saturday, September 12, with seven Premier League matches before Sunday's action and Monday night's Leeds vs. Newcastle finale.

Lindsey Brooke Isaacs was asleep at home when police arrived and told the 23-year-old that her car had been involved in a crash that killed three people. She knew they had the wrong person. Her black Dodge Durango showed no obvious collision damage, and she had a receipt showing where she had been.
Still, the investigation eventually led to her being arrested and 13 days in jail. "My heart was in my stomach," Lindsey told me on The CyberGuy Report Podcast at Cyberguy.com/podcast/. "I didn't know what was going on."
Months later, prosecutors dropped all eight felony charges against her and investigators arrested another woman in connection with the crash. Her case now raises a bigger question about how much weight investigators should give license plate camera data when a person's freedom is on the line.

The summer transfer window may have only just shut but, the rumour mill is already going into overdrive.
Liverpool finally won their first game of the Premier League season on Friday with Andoni Iraola's style of football finally shining through.
However, if they don't manage to keep their performance levels to that standard throughout the rest of the season, there's no way that they'll be anywhere near the top of the table.
So, in order for them to keep things this way and ensure that they can out-do their performances from last term, some new transfers may have to be made.
This is why it's important that Liverpool may have already decided on who their next transfer is going to be.

One of the biggest priorities for Bayern Munich this summer was finding a solution for João Palhinha, and Michael Reschke believes the club finally managed to put a difficult chapter behind them.
"Most importantly, of course, they've resolved the Palhinha situation. That whole affair cost a fortune and certainly annoyed everyone, but these things happen. It's impossible for every transfer to be a success," Reschke told Abendzeitung.
Bayern Munich paid Fulham €51 million up front for Palhinha in 2024, with the deal potentially rising to €56 million with add-ons. After struggling to establish himself as a regular starter, he spent last season on loan at Tottenham before Bayern Munich ultimately moved him on.
The financial investment made Palhinha one of the more disappointing transfers of recent years, particularly given the limited return Bayern Munich received on the pitch.
But Reschke's point is that even clubs as successful as Bayern Munich will occasionally get a transfer wrong.

It wasn't an easy day for the Oregon Ducks on Saturday, as they battled back from a 17-7 deficit to the Boise State Broncos to take the lead, only for the Broncos to respond and twice tie the game in the second half. But in the end, the Ducks mustered up a 34-27 victory, preserving a 1-0 record heading into next week.
Oregon's Week 2 opponent, the Oklahoma State Cowboys, didn't have an easy go of it either in Week 1 — but the difference is that while they fell behind early, they never found a way to come back, losing 24-10 to the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on the road. Not only are the Golden Hurricane a Group of Six team in the American Athletic Conference (AAC), but they reside in Oklahoma and are considered the "little brother" to the Cowboys and Oklahoma Sooners.
Little brother no more, as Tulsa has now beaten Oklahoma State in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the 1950's.
It was a stunning result, as Oklahoma State was favored by two touchdowns coming in and had received top-25 buzz after hiring North Texas head coach Eric Morris, who brought along quarterback Drew Mestemaker (the nation's leading passer in 2025), running back Caleb Hawkins and wide receiver Wyatt Young from the Mean Green — plus 63 other transfers, overhauling a roster that won just a single game last season.
With the trio of Mestemaker, Hawkins and Young that powered college football's top scoring offense at North Texas in 2025, their Week 2 matchup against Oregon in Stillwater was cooking up to be a highly-anticipated game between two explosive offenses. But the Cowboys were anything but explosive against the Golden Hurricane, producing just 10 points and four turnovers, with Mestemaker accounting for three (two interceptions, one lost fumble) himself.

The Wisconsin Badgers are in primetime to start the season, as they're taking on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Lambeau Field on Sunday, with kickoff set for 6:30 p.m. on NBC.
Wisconsin is coming off a 4-8 season, which was their worst season by win percentage since 1990. But this year's Badgers are quite different, as the program added over 30 transfers in the offseason, while making a few organizational changes with the coaching staff and front office.
Wisconsin's offense will be at the forefront of the conversation, as the Badgers are now led by Old Dominion transfer quarterback Colton Joseph, who threw for 2,624 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 10 touchdowns last year as the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year. He also added over 1,000 yards and double-digit scores on the ground as a dual-threat quarterback.
The defense looks improved as well, with freshmen sensations Mason Posa and Cooper Catalano now transitioning to full-time roles as sophomores. Wisconsin made a lot of changes in the secondary, bringing in starters at cornerback and safety. They will be tested up front in the trenches against a strong Notre Dame offense, though.
The Fighting Irish are on a mission after missing the College Football Playoff last season with a 10-2 record. They return a ton of production defensively, while quarterback C.J. Carr is a Heisman candidate in his second year as the full-time starter.

What channel is Washington vs. Washington State on? Live stream, time, TV schedule to watch Apple Cup game originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Washington and Washington State know each other as well as two teams can, but Sunday's matchup will still bring something new.
The 118th Apple Cup will mark the first time the rivals open their seasons against each other in a series that dates to 1901.
The 17th-ranked Huskies will host this year and are hoping to use the game as a springboard to further improvement after taking a big step forward in 2025. Coach Jedd Fisch's second season at the helm saw Washington win three more games than the previous campaign and will look for more this fall as quarterback Demond Williams and other key players return.
The Cougars are also coming off a winning season at 7-6 but have a new coach at the helm in former Missouri offensive coordinator Kirby Moore. He has overhauled the roster with nearly 30 incoming transfers, including new QB Caden Pinnick. The sophomore threw for 3,206 yards and 32 touchdowns last season for UC Davis.

BATON ROUGE, La. — Mother Nature wanted Lane Kiffin and LSU to sit for a little bit longer and think about what they've done. Kiffin and LSU responded by hanging a 51-10 score on Clemson. Litigation isn't all they're good at, as it turns out.
Yes, it's early September. Yes, LSU beat the orange off an overmatched Clemson squad that's unranked and yet still overrated. But after a Saturday night in Death Valley where LSU ran over Clemson on both sides of the ball, it's not too soon to declare that Kiffin's squad might just be for real, and a real problem for the rest of the SEC.
"Imagine if we had pro players," Kiffin told ESPN's Holly Rowe as he left the field at halftime, and how you view that statement — proudly defiant or infuriatingly smug — probably depends on whether you live in the state of Louisiana. Kiffin delivered the line after LSU put the finishing touches on a half in which they'd outscored Clemson by 28 points, rushing for 213 yards and 21 first downs while holding Clemson to a net minus-4 yards and a single first down.
Matters didn't get any better for Clemson in the second half even after a desperation quarterback change. LSU, meanwhile, grew more confident in real time. The patchwork collection of transfers and new staff answered the most serious question facing LSU by working as an actual team, leaving the 10 ½-point spread far behind.
Kiffin always manages to whip everything around him into a frenzy, and late on Saturday afternoon, that included the skies as well as the rest of college football. For a few minutes there around 6 p.m., it sure looked like the Almighty had a problem with the way that Louisiana State University has been handling business lately.

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Marcellous Hawkins Jr. rushed for three touchdowns, and Jeffrey Overton Jr. rushed for 108 yards and two scores to lead Virginia Tech to a 73-3 victory over VMI on Saturday in the debut of Hokies' head coach James Franklin.
Franklin, who was fired last October by Penn State after 12 seasons and hired by Virginia Tech 36 days later, witnessed a dominating performance by the Hokies (1-0) in their opener. Virginia Tech's offense scored on its first six possessions and punted just once during the game. The Hokies' defense held VMI (0-2) to just 83 yards, and the special teams blocked two punts, recovering one for a touchdown.
Hired to rebuild a once-proud Virginia Tech program that has suffered losing seasons in five of the past six years, Franklin brought in 27 transfers, including 12 who followed him from his previous stop. Arguably the most important of those, quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer, enjoyed a great Virginia Tech debut.
Grunkemeyer, who started the final seven games for Penn State last season, completed 10 of his first 11 passes. He finished 17 of 20 for 224 yards and two touchdowns.
Led by Overton, who scored on runs of 50 and 23 yards, and Grunkemeyer, the Hokies finished with 619 total yards.

Welcome back to another year of Clemson football. At this time last year I think we were all drinking the orange Kool Aid. Everything was in place for a return to what we've come to expect from Clemson football. Then we actually saw the football.
This year there is optimism! A new* OC! Actual transfers! What could go wrong?
As always plenty. This may be the biggest season for Dabo and Clemson since 2011. It may not be realistic to expect an ACC ***** le and a playoff berth, though it shouldn't be a shock if it happens, but looking like a real football team is important. The biggest disappointment last year was the lack of motivation, sound football, and desire that we saw. That has to change, if it doesn't then what are we even doing here? But good news is we get to answer the eternal question of "What if the worst NFL team plays a college team?" Thanks to Lane Kiffin.
As always, join us in the comments below. New season, new optimism, or something.

On August 12, Flywire (NASDAQ:FLYW) expanded its partnership with Trustly, bringing "Pay by Bank" open banking payments to customers across the US and Canada. The expansion lets payers authorize ACH and Pre-Authorized Debit transfers straight from their bank login, skipping the routing and account numbers that trip up so many cross-border payments. It is the kind of unglamorous plumbing upgrade that rarely makes headlines, but for a company built on moving money across borders, cutting payment friction is close to the whole business model.
Flywire and Trustly have partnered since 2017, first in Europe, and this expansion carries that same playbook into North America. Trustly runs a real-time balance check the moment a payer authorizes a transaction, catching insufficient funds before the payment is submitted rather than after. For cross-border transfers, Flywire manages the funds through the return window itself, which cuts down on the reversals that have long made international payments messy for clients and their customers alike. "We're applying the open banking infrastructure we've successfully scaled across Europe to North America, enabling our clients to confidently offer their payers a proven experience," said Kate Moran, Flywire's Vice President of Global Payments.
The timing lines up with a quarter of accelerating growth. On August 4, 2026, Flywire reported second-quarter revenue up 27.2% year over year to $167.7 million, while total payment volume jumped 38.2% to $8.2 billion. Management raised its full-year guidance for both revenue growth and adjusted EBITDA margin, and the business is no longer leaning on education alone. Flywire signed more than 200 new clients across 45 countries during the quarter, with hospitality wins spanning nearly 90 U.S. hotel properties and education revenue outside its core markets growing more than 30% year over year.
Growth came with a cost. Gross margin slipped to 53.4% in the second quarter of 2026 from 57.0% a year earlier, and adjusted gross margin fell even further, from 61.1% down to 56.6%. That is a meaningful step backward on a per-dollar basis even as the top line expanded by double digits, and it raises the question of whether faster growth is being bought with thinner margins on the payments themselves.
Flywire also still posted a GAAP net loss of $8.1 million for the quarter, an improvement from the $12.0 million loss a year earlier but a loss nonetheless. And the company's own leadership flagged caution ahead: CFO Cosmin Pitigoi said Flywire is keeping its ***** umptions for the education vertical conservative because of the current visa policy environment, an acknowledgment that the company's largest historical vertical faces headwinds outside its control.

Things are moving fast, very fast, too fast at Cremonese. Two defeats in Serie B, sure, but also qualification for the Coppa Italia against Parma this week... that's the record of Marco Giampaolo, who is already out less than two weeks after the restart. One word... why?
New season, same Olympic-level fitness. Luka Modric keeps adding to his legend. The Croatian is carrying on with AC Milan at the age of 40. The curious twist this season is that he is now coached by Ruben Amorim, who was also born in 1985.
A little cheap shot.

BBC Sport's FPL expert Gianni ***** ice looks at some of the biggest dilemmas facing Fantasy Premier League managers heading into gameweek three.
If you do not own Erling Haaland (£15.5m), using a chip to bring him in is much simpler than spending several transfers to fit in the game's most expensive player.
A Wildcard lets you move quickly on trending players, improve team value, and invest heavily in two sides you may not have much exposure to in Manchester City and Chelsea, who face Coventry and Hull at home over the next fortnight.
The Free Hit chip also has an upside, allowing you to avoid the ***** nal versus Chelsea fixture and consider players from Brighton, Newcastle, and Brentford.
If you are not using a Wildcard or Free Hit, choosing Haaland as your Triple Captain looks a strong option, which I am likely to run with.

Boston College head coach Bill O'Brien's college coaching résumé spans Georgia Tech, Maryland, Duke, Penn State, Alabama, Ohio State (briefly), and now the Eagles of Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
In the NFL, he's been with the Patriots and was head coach of the Houston Texans.
Saturday, Sept. 5 marks the first head-to-head matchup between O'Brien and UC head coach Scott Satterfield when the Eagles come to Cincinnati. Both coaches need positive results out of the gate for their respective fan bases.
"Just like us, they have a lot of new players," O'Brien said. "Their secondary is out of the portal. They have a veteran offensive line that's very, very good. They have some transfers at wide receiver. So, we don't really know (about UC). We have an idea, but it's the first game, and there are a lot of unknowns."
The series is tied 4-4, but UC has won the last two, including the Jan. 2, 2020 Birmingham Bowl at Legion Field, 38-6. In that game, sophomore quarterback Desmond Ridder ran for three touchdowns and threw for another to take game MVP honors.

The names just kept coming, one after the other: Alexia Putellas, a two-time Ballon d'Or winner; Mary Earps, named the best women's goalkeeper by FIFA in 2022 and 2023; Mapi Leon, a four-time Champions League winner; and Kadidiatou Diani, who has earned more than 100 caps for France.
But how are the London City Lionesses, owned by American businesswoman Michele Kang, complying with the Women's Super League's financial rules to pay these big-name players?
Invest before revenue.
Kang, a Korean-American businesswoman, bought the club in 2023, helping them win promotion to the WSL in 2025. Finishing sixth in their debut top-flight season was respectable, but this summer, they have gone big. London City have splashed out on star players — albeit mostly on free transfers — for two reasons: they want to qualify for the Champions League and increase their revenue as soon as possible.
Earnings have to rise so they can afford to pay this set of players. London City are banking on marquee names attracting larger sponsorship deals and a new fanbase that will increase revenue down the line. On Thursday they announced a first-of-its-kind multi-year front-of-shirt partnership with Nike. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Kang, however, said the value exceeds some Premier League men's teams' shirt deals and the $4million (£2.9 m) annual value of the NWSL's Atlanta expansion franchise's recent front-of-shirt agreement, believed to be the wealthiest jersey sponsorship in women's sports.

Coastal Carolina will begin their season in Morgantown, ushering in a new era. They fired former head coach Tim Beck after three seasons, including a 6-7 record in his final two. Replacing Beck is Ryan Beard.
Beard was previously the head coach at Missouri State, and he has brought over a lot of players with him.
The interesting thing about this matchup is that neither team has announced who the starting quarterback will be. For the Chanticleers, Deuce Bailey, Tre Guerra, Trever Jackson, Osiris Lopez and Luke McBride have all competed for the job. Beard has said the decision for whoever starts will be a game-time decision. Bailey was one of the transfers that came with Beard from Missouri State. He made one start last season.
For West Virginia, Michael Hawkins Jr. and Scotty Fox Jr. have both been in competition to win the starting job. While head coach Rich Rodriguez hasn't publicly announced the starter, it has been reported that Hawkins Jr. will be starting.

Ahead of his first game as an opening-day starter, Michigan State quarterback Alessio Milivojevic spoke with the media about the team's readiness for Friday night's opener against Toledo, which is also Pat Fitzgerald's debut as head coach.
"There is excitement for every football game, but it just feels different," Milivojevic said in the SpartanMag video above. "It's hard to explain; I'm just ready to get back out there Friday and play."
With a roster that is mostly transfers and first-year players, the Spartans are looking to finally test themselves against a real opponent. They can practice together as much as they want, but they can't prove anything until game time.
"I think guys are just ready to go; the desire to get out there, you can feel it," Milivojevic said. "Guys are practicing 100% every day, ready to play someone other than our own team."
After going through training camp and the first half of last season as the backup, Milivojevic got a full offseason as the expected starter. Practicing with the other starters, instead of being plugged in halfway through the season, has made him more comfortable reading his receivers.
