CoreWeave (NASDAQ:CRWV), a GPU-accelerated cloud infrastructure provider, closed at $79.88, down 4.16%. The stock fell after CoreWeave announced convertible debt and a share sale, and investors are watching financing costs and infrastructure expansion.
Trading volume reached 78.3 million shares, coming in about 176% above its three-month average of 28.4 million shares. CoreWeave IPO'd in 2025 and has doubled since going public.
The S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC) closed at 7,637, up 1.13%, while the Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) closed at 26,418, up 1.69%. Among specialized cloud computing and AI infrastructure services peers, Nebius Group (NASDAQ:NBIS) closed at $217.99, up 4.12%, and Iren (NASDAQ:IREN) closed at $43.48, up 2.02%, as investors kept weighing AI buildout demand against funding needs.
It's important to note why CoreWeave stock dropped while shares of its closest peers rose sharply today. The companies are in a capital-intensive spending growth stretch. Demand for high-powered compute cloud ******* e for AI is huge, and CoreWeave announced today that it would raise money to meet that demand in two ways.
Its share offering and convertible bond offering are both likely to be dilutive to shareholders. But it takes money to make money, and CoreWeave also reinforced today that it is raising prices for its compute cloud contracts.
But the debt and share issuance contrasts with the solid cash position of peer Iren, for example. Iren has built up cash from its existing crypto mining operations.

The Federal Reserve raised interest rates on Wednesday, marking its first hike in more than three years, in a move that will likely make borrowing more expensive while giving savers a modest boost.
Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh and the Federal Open Market Committee announced a widely expected quarter-point rate increase and indicated another to come.
The stock market's reaction to the Fed's announcement is likely to draw the most headlines, and John Shugar, a partner at Goldman Sachs, leans toward an optimistic scenario.

On August 5, Clear Channel Outdoor Holdings Inc. (NYSE:CCO) reported second-quarter results that showed the billboard and airport advertising company accelerating just as it prepares to leave the public markets. On February 9, Clear Channel agreed to be acquired by an investor consortium advised by Mubadala Capital for $2.43 per share, a deal stockholders approved on May 12, and one expected to close by the end of the third quarter of 2026. Because of the pending Merger, Clear Channel skipped its usual earnings call and offered no forward guidance.
Consolidated revenue climbed 8.7% to $438.0 million in the quarter and 10.2% to $811.9 million over the first half, with the 2026 FIFA World Cup pulling in extra advertising spend across both of Clear Channel's segments. The America division, which houses the roadside billboard and street furniture business, grew revenue 7% to $324.3 million as demand from technology advertisers in the San Francisco/Bay Area market broadened out and digital billboard revenue rose 7.2% to $122 million. Airports revenue jumped 14% to $113.6 million, helped by strong demand at San Francisco
International Airport and digital sales that climbed 15.6% to $73.4 million, with national advertisers now accounting for 57.8% of that segment's revenue. Profitability grew even faster than the top line. Adjusted EBITDA rose 11.6% to $143.4 million for the quarter and 19% to $247.3 million for the first half, while Airports Segment Adjusted EBITDA jumped 22.8% to $29.9 million. Adjusted Funds From Operations climbed 61.6% to $44.9 million in the quarter, and for the first half it went from just $5 million a year ago to $51.5 million. On August 4, Clear Channel also closed the sale of its Spain business for about $132.3 million, proceeds it plans to put toward paying down debt.
The growth did not reach the bottom line. Clear Channel posted a loss from continuing operations of $10 million in the quarter, reversing a $6.3 million profit a year earlier, and the consolidated net loss came to $5 million versus net income of $10.6 million in the same period of 2025. Over six months, the loss from continuing operations widened 21.4% to $59.4 million. Costs rose alongside revenue. Direct operating and SG&A expenses increased 5.9% for the quarter, and Airports site lease expense alone jumped 12.0% to $67.1 million on higher minimum guaranteed payments and the renewed contract with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.

In what is being referred to as potentially social media's "Big Tobacco moment," Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) recently announced an agreement with 52 attorneys general under which the parent company of Facebook and Instagram will pay up to $18 billion over the next decade and significantly change its policies for teen users.
While the fine would be the largest consumer-protection settlement ever, excluding Big Tobacco, most Wall Street ***** ysts and experts believe Meta avoided what could have been a vastly larger financial settlement.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
But the ramifications from this landmark teen-safety lawsuit could be far worse for social media company Snap (NYSE: SNAP). Here's why.
Per the agreement, Meta will pay $12.7 billion to the participating states and U.S. territories in the lawsuit in annual installments over the next decade. The remaining $5.3 billion will be paid based on two conditions: Alphabet's YouTube and TikTok must apply some of the same changes that Meta is making for teens, and those companies must collectively pay a matching $5.3 billion.

Artisan Partners, an investment management company, released its second-quarter 2026 investor commentary for the "Artisan Global Opportunities Strategy". The letter can be downloaded here. Global equities rebounded sharply during the quarter, with the MSCI ACWI Index returning 15.3% as resilient economic growth, strong corporate earnings, and continued enthusiasm around artificial intelligence supported markets despite persistent inflation, higher bond yields, and geopolitical uncertainty. The portfolio reported strong absolute returns of 12.65% (net) but underperformed the benchmark, mainly because of its underweight exposure to information technology and overweight position in health care. Strong stock selection in technology and energy partially offset these headwinds. The fund continues to see attractive long-term opportunities across AI infrastructure, health care and consumer internet, while remaining disciplined on valuation as several AI-related stocks have appreciated sharply. Management remains focused on durable franchises with identifiable profit cycles and attractive long-term earnings potential. Also, check the Strategy's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Artisan Global Opportunities Strategy highlighted Lam Research Corporation (NASDAQ:LRCX), a leading semiconductor equipment company that supplies semiconductor processing equipment. Lam Research Corporation (NASDAQ:LRCX) accounted for 2.5% portfolio and contributed positively to the strategy's performance this quarter. On September 1, 2026, Lam Research Corporation (NASDAQ:LRCX) closed at $290.20 per share. Over the past month, Lam Research Corporation (NASDAQ:LRCX) declined 5.60%, but its shares are up 196.91% over the past year. Lam Research Corporation (NASDAQ:LRCX) has a market capitalization of $363.13 billion.
Artisan Global Opportunities Strategy stated the following regarding Lam Research Corporation (NASDAQ:LRCX) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Our top contributors in Q2 were AMD, Lam Research Corporation (NASDAQ:LRCX) and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC). Lam is a leading supplier of semiconductor manufacturing equipment, with dominant positions in etching and deposition. The company delivered results that exceeded elevated expectations, with margins remaining above anticipated levels and guidance pointing to continued momentum. In response to rising semiconductor capital spending, particularly in memory, management increased its outlook for 2026 wafer fabrication equipment spending to approximately $140 billion, representing roughly 27% year-over-year growth. Given the stock's recent appreciation and valuation approaching the upper end of our target range, we trimmed the position to manage risk and position size."

Not long ago, dividend stocks were the clear income champions. In July 2016, nearly two-thirds of S&P 500 ($SPX) companies (about 63.4%) offered a higher dividend yield than the 10-year Treasury. That was the peak of a post-financial-crisis era when ultra-low rates made equities the go-to source of cash flow for yield-hungry investors.
Today, that picture has completely flipped. As of late August 2026, fewer than 4% of S&P 500 stocks (16 stocks) yield more than the 10-year Treasury, the lowest share since May 2007.

With the focus of global investors shifting away from the short-term economy to long-term fiscal credibility, the US dollar started its day on August 24 on multi-month lows. Although Treasury Department's plan to double buybacks to the tune of $4 billion per operation on 10- to 30-year debt has eased concerns in some market circles, others are concerned that Washington intends to further suppress long-term borrowing via the deficit without remediation. U.S. 30-year yields are at 5.337%, last week's 19-year highs, and a slightly better than expected Services report on Friday did little to push the dollar higher. Investors are watching both Friday's speech by Fed Chair Kevin Warsh from Jackson Hole and July's inflation for more insight on the possible direction and duration of monetary policy.
Buyer perception is that the ECB will continue to adhere to the fight against inflation after the September opening of a 2.5% deposit rate. In the meantime, while the recovery in Europe is uneven, sentiment in the markets is that recent growth data and business activity support the push for further inflation focus against the backdrop of the Iran conflict.
Sterling is further supported by the comparative relationship with the dollar. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh rose to 2.9% in July, while second-quarter GDP increased by 0.4%. There were also declines in retail sales and an unexpected budget deficit by the government which has weakened prospects. With all of this in mind, the best case scenario is still limited. Most economists predict interest rates will stay the same for the remainder of 2022. That said, inflation is still expected to rise enough to prompt the Bank of England for at least one interest rate hike in 2026.
For August 24, the primary FX theme is increased uncertainty over U.S. fiscal policy and treated the dollar as being weak, while the risks of tightening by the ECB and BoE supported the euro and pound.
For the U.S. Dollar Index, the 4-hour chart shows a price currently at $98.89 after breaking the $99.38 support. The price is below the 50, and 100, period Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs) confirming a bearish sentiment. The price has been attempting to stabilize in the range of $98.55 to $98.82, and has broken some support, but no major resistances have been established.

Silver (SI=F) September futures opened at $63.43 per ounce on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, down 1% from Tuesday's closing price. The silver price moved higher this morning, reaching $65 as of 8:55 a.m. ET.
Despite signs of strength Wednesday morning, the silver price is down about 9% for the year — after spiking in late January and then dipping into negative territory in March. Catalysts have included ongoing tensions in the Middle East and higher rate hike expectations. While the war in Iran is ongoing, the interest-rate outlook has improved. Silver has not meaningfully appreciated, however.
The metal's industrial applications add complexity to its price drivers relative to gold. As a result, silver tends to be far more volatile. The current gold-to-silver ratio near 68 is in line with the long-term average range of 50 and 80.
The opening price of silver futures on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, was 1% lower compared to Tuesday's closing price. Here's how today's opening silver price has changed versus last week, month, and year:

Fifty-four percent of U.S. households saved no money last month, EY-Parthenon found in a survey, highlighting how the rising price for gasoline and other goods is undermining consumers' buying power.
One out of five households spent more than it earned and tapped debt or savings to cover expenses, EY-Parthenon said. Seventy-two percent of consumers identified dining out, apparel, beauty and personal care, and other discretionary categories as candidates for spending cuts.
"Many households are maintaining stability through spending trade-offs, delayed purchases and the use of savings or debt," Mark Chambers, the retail sector leader for EY Americas, said in a statement, while noting consumers' "resilience."
Consumers are altering their outlays to cope with persistent price pressures. Inflation rose 3.4% on an annual basis last month after increasing 3.5% in June, even as energy prices during July fell 1.5%, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said Wednesday.

BNSF Railway reported higher second-quarter, pre-tax earnings thanks to a combination of volume growth and higher revenue per load, parent company Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK-B) reported on Saturday.
BNSF's pre-tax earnings rose 13.9%, to $2.06 billion, as revenue increased 14.6%, to $6.56 billion. The railway's operating expenses increased 15.6% compared to a year ago, as fuel costs surged 68%. BNSF's operating ratio was 65.4%, an 0.6-point increase.
Quarterly volume rose 6.5%, while average revenue per unit increased 7.6%, primarily from higher fuel surcharge revenue.
Consumer products volume, which includes intermodal and automotive traffic, grew 9.3%. Berkshire said the volume growth was due to "higher intermodal shipments resulting from higher West Coast imports, market share gains, and tightening truck capacity."
Agricultural and energy products traffic was up 11.5% for the quarter. "The volume increases were primarily due to higher grain exports, petroleum fuels and oilseeds and meals," Berkshire reported.

Five dividend stocks, among them ARLP and BKR, share an August 7 ex-date, so buyers must act by market close on August 6 if they want to collect the next distribution.
CFFN and BKR carry the strongest payout coverage, while ARLP's 9% yield already absorbed a 2025 cut and still exceeds trailing EPS.

Five dividends land in investor accounts this month, but only for people who own the shares before Friday, August 7. That's the ex-dividend date every one of the names below shares, which turns a routine income roundup into a timing exercise. The buy-by deadline is the close of trading on Thursday, August 6.
One of the five (a coal MLP with real coverage questions) carries a supersized yield; the rest have varying yields but they're still worth checking out. The main point here is the ex-date, and a quick read on whether each payout looks safe.

Renewable energy developer Avantus said its Aratina 1 solar-plus-storage project has entered commercial operation in California. The 200-MW/500-MWh installation in Kern County has long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Central Coast Community Energy (3CE) and Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE), a pair of community choice aggregators.Avantus on July 20 said the company will have a controlling stake in Aratina 1 and will operate the facility. The company said the project is among several **** ets it will oversee as it expands from a clean energy developer to an independent power producer (IPP)."Aratina 1 coming online marks a major milestone for Avantus as an independent power producer, providing reliable clean power to California communities for decades to come," said Cliff Graham, CEO of Avantus. "I'm incredibly proud of what Team Avantus built here. Their expertise across development, construction, financing and operations, and the trust our financing and CCA partners have placed in us, are the foundation we're building our long-term IPP model on.""The Aratina project is a powerful example of how community choice energy turns climate goals into real projects on the ground," said Robert Shaw, CEO of 3CE. "Our long-term commitment to 120 MW from this facility will deliver clean, affordable power to our customers while supporting California's transition away from fossil fuels. We're grateful to partner with Avantus on a project that strengthens grid reliability and invests in the Central Coast's clean energy future."
Avantus said a consortium of lenders, including Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp., Truist Securities, ING Capital, and Mizuho, provided financing of more than $500 million for Aratina 1. The project also secured a $300-million tax equity commitment from Truist Bank. Officials said the project created about 500 jobs at peak construction."The clean power generated from the Aratina project gets us one step closer to our climate goals. New projects like this are critical in increasing statewide clean capacity and reliability as we reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and move towards an all-electric future," said Monica Padilla, CEO of SVCE.Avantus on Monday said that Aratina 2, the second phase of the Aratina Solar Center, located adjacent to Aratina 1, is currently under construction. Aratina 2 recently closed more than $525 million in financing and is targeting commercial operation before year-end. The Aratina Solar Center when complete will represent a combined 350 MW of solar and 952 MWh of energy storage.Avantus develops, owns, and operates utility-scale clean energy projects across California and the Desert Southwest. The company is backed by strategic investment from KKR and EIG. The company earlier this year closed a financing package of more than $300 million for a project in Arizona.Avantus and Clean Power Alliance, another community choice aggregator, earlier in July announced a 20-year PPA for the Rexford 2 solar-plus-s

SOLON, Ohio, July 21 (Reuters) - A nondescript facility south of Cleveland has become an early staging ground for the auto industry's next supply-chain pivot: replacing vehicle hardware from China.
The plant belongs to Eagle Wireless, a maker of electronics that was formed in late 2025, largely in response to a federal rule that bans certain Chinese connected-car software and hardware in U.S. vehicles by the end of the decade.
"There's a massive opportunity for us," said TJ Dembinski, president of Eagle Wireless. He said Eagle grew out of a need to counter China's dominance in modules, which he knew would be challenging for U.S. automakers as the regulations took effect.
It's been a mad dash to scale up production of modules, the small circuit boards that enable vehicles to have a wireless connection to the outside world. Eagle started with about 140 employees and is aiming to grow to 1,000 in the next three years. Its revenue expectations have increased by almost 100% for the year, to nearly $100 million.

Cathie Wood's exchange-traded funds (ETFs) ended June by selling $11.2 million worth of stock in synthetic DNA manufacturer Twist Bioscience (NASDAQ: TWST). On June 30, across its Ark Innovation ETF and Ark Genomic Revolution ETF, over 114,000 shares were sold. That was on the heels of more than 84,000 shares being sold previously in the month.
Hearing that so much stock is being sold can feel concerning, as shareholders may worry that Wood has found a problem with the company that they don't know about. But there could also be not-so-worrisome reasons why the Ark ETFs are selling Twist Bioscience.
Continue »
Ark's ETFs are actively managed, with stakes in companies worth millions or hundreds of millions of dollars. While selling over $11 million worth of a stock sounds significant, it also needs to be taken in context of just how much Twist Ark owns.
As of July 15, the Ark Genomic Revolution ETF held more than $121 million worth of Twist, and it was that ETF's third-largest holding. In addition, the Ark Innovation ETF holds over $211 million worth of Twist.

PARIS, July 15 (Reuters) - Countries applying a global minimum tax on multinational companies saw corporate tax revenues rise without a corresponding loss of jobs or investment, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development said on Wednesday.
The global minimum tax was designed to curb a decades-long race to the bottom in corporate taxation by allowing countries to levy top-up taxes when profits are taxed below 15% elsewhere, reducing the benefits of booking profits in low-tax jurisdictions.
More than 60 countries and territories have implemented the rules, while many others are preparing to do so.
The Paris-based OECD estimated that the tax increased government revenue by €79 billion to €109 billion ($90 billion to $124 billion) in its first year, equivalent to 2.4% to 3.4% of global corporate income tax receipts.
