A home Medicaid excludes from **** et tests during life becomes fully exposed to estate recovery after death, potentially consuming most of an inheritance.
Transfers of a home within 60 months of a Medicaid application trigger a penalty period, and a stroke can eliminate the legal capacity needed to act.
Penalty-free exceptions exist, including spousal transfer, caregiver-child, and protected-relative rules, but qualifying circumstances must be in place well before a crisis.
Two retirees, same $1 million, same 4% rule, buy one finished with $1.4 million, the other hit $0 in 12 years. Our free reader guide explains the flaw that separated them, and the income-first method built to avoid it.
An 82-year-old widower has a stroke. From the hospital he moves to rehabilitation, then to permanent nursing-home care. His paid-off house is worth $340,000. His daughter asks the elder-law attorney whether they can deed her the house or drop it into an irrevocable trust before Medicaid pays a dime. The answer is the one no family wants to hear: probably not, because Dad no longer has the capacity to sign, and his durable power of attorney authorizes bill payment but not gifts or trust transfers.

Parnassus Investments, an investment management company, released the "Parnassus Growth Equity Fund" second-quarter 2026 investor letter. The letter can be downloaded here. During the quarter, the Fund (Investor Shares) returned 17.49% (net of fees), outperforming the Russell 1000 Growth Index's 16.74%. Holdings in Information Technology and Consumer Discretionary sectors boosted relative returns, while Communication Services and Financials holdings detracted. For the year-to-date period, the Fund returned 6.17% (net of fees), outperforming the Russell 1000 Growth's 5.33%. The firm remains constructively bullish on U.S. equities and continues to be selective, valuation-sensitive, and focused on disruptive growth opportunities through active stock selection. Growth stocks advanced during the second quarter, as the Russell 1000 Growth Index generated strong double-digit returns driven by increased confidence in the durability of the ongoing artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure build-out. Additionally, reviewing the Fund's top five holdings could help identify its best picks for 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Parnassus Growth Equity Fund highlighted Sandisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) as a newly added position. Sandisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) develops, manufactures, and sells data storage devices and solutions using NAND flash technology in the United States and internationally. On September 15, 2026, Sandisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) closed at $1,530.90 per share. Over the past month, Sandisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) declined 2.32%, but its shares are up 1,530.74% over the past year. Sandisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) has a market capitalization of $224.15 billion, and its stock has traded within a 52-week range of $90.22 to $2,354.39.
Parnassus Growth Equity Fund stated the following regarding Sandisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Other positions added during the quarter included Sandisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK), a leader in flash memory solutions; Comfort Systems, a mechanical, electrical and plumbing contractor. Sandisk makes NAND flash memory, which is seeing a surge in demand from data centers and AI workloads. While NAND remains cyclical, we believe the combination of accelerating AI-driven storage demand and constrained supply provides an attractive opportunity to participate in the current upcycle."
Sandisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) is on our list of the 40 Most Popular Stocks Among Hedge Funds. As per our database, 128 hedge fund portfolios held Sandisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) at the end of the second quarter which was 114 in the previous quarter. While we acknowledge the potential of Sandisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk. On September 3, a caller asked if UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) has enough profitable growth that they should consider adding it to their portfolio. Mad Money host Jim Cramer replied:
Yes, the answer: it does, it does. You know, I've got to tell you, I thought that last quarter was very, very good. The stock market did not like the quarter as much as I thought it would, but the stock's making a stand here. I think that UNH is good to buy.
Cramer's bullish stance rests on the core strength of the company's financial delivery and improving execution. In its second-quarter 2026 report, UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) posted consolidated revenues of $112 billion and operating earnings of $8 billion. Adjusted diluted earnings per share reached $6.38, outpacing Wall Street expectations by $1.48. Driven by strong performance across both the UnitedHealthcare and Optum divisions, management raised its full-year 2026 adjusted EPS guidance to a range of $19.50 to $20. Furthermore, the medical care ratio improved to 86.7% down from 89.4% a year prior, showing that medical cost trends and pricing are aligning effectively.
On the other hand, Wall Street remains cautious about lingering cost pressures across the managed care landscape. Even though the medical care ratio improved compared to last year, patients continuing to utilize medical services at a high rate keeps expenses heavy. At the same time, commercial insurance margins are taking longer to bounce back. Adding in tighter payment adjustments for government-backed plans along with heavy spending on tech infrastructure, cautious investors could have reasons to wait rather than chasing the stock higher.
Insider Monkey's data tracking over 1000 hedge funds shows accumulation by major ****** et managers. 143 hedge funds had positions in UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) in Q2 compared to 130 in Q1. Of those funds, Fisher ****** et Management was the top shareholder with nearly 9.1 million shares. The firm increased its position in the stock by 74% in the quarter. Additionally, short interest remains low, with the short percentage of the float sitting at 1.92%, showing a general lack of aggressive bearish bets against the stock.

Shares of big data software pioneer Palantir (NASDAQ: PLTR) rallied 51.5% in August, according to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence.
Palantir became a darling of the AI era over the past couple of years, and hit a very high valuation at its peak last November. Since then, the "SaaS-pocalypse" has taken a toll on the entire software sector, including Palantir, as fears of disruption from leading AI labs cut its stock price nearly in half, from its November 2025 highs to its June 2026 lows.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
The downturn set Palantir up for a bounce higher if it posted continued strong financial results. Its second-quarter August report provided that, in spades.
In the second quarter, Palantir delivered 93% revenue growth to $1.94 billion, while adjusted (non-GAAP) earnings per share grew 156% to $0.41. Both figures handily beat ****** yst expectations. This amazing growth marked a stunning acceleration from the 48% revenue growth in the year-ago quarter and the 85% growth in the first quarter of 2026. Another impressive metric was profitability, as adjusted free cash flow margins expanded to a massive 63% -- among the highest in the industry.

The Euro rose quite a bit in early trading on Thursday, but with the jobs report coming out, I'm watching the 1.1640 level. That was where we had seen that massive sell-off. I'm looking for signs of exhaustion to short this. Now, I don't want to get married to this position. This is not going to be a long-term position by any stretch of the imagination, but I think it's difficult to imagine a market that's just truly going to fly ahead of that Nonfarm Payroll announcement. It could, obviously, but I'm looking for signs of exhaustion to start shorting.
The dollar against the Canadian dollar has fallen pretty significantly over the last couple of days, but we have a gap down here at 1.3780 that I'm watching very closely. If we get a bounce from here, I'm willing to go long. Now, keep in mind both of these countries produce their jobs report at the same time on Friday morning, so I'll be out of this position no matter what it does before then.
With that being said, as long as we get some type of bounce, I'm willing to play that V-shaped pattern here as the interest rate differential continues to favor the United States despite the fact that rates have dropped a little bit early in the session.
Finally, the USD/CHF pair. This is one I've been long for a very long time. It is falling apart. Again, like the Euro, I'm kind of watching to see a little bit of exhaustion somewhere right around the 0.8050 level. I'll be watching to see if we get a bounce. That's a place I could go long. But again, I don't want to be in the dollar when the Nonfarm Payroll announcement comes out. So all of these will be very short-term trades at best.

1552 ET – Mexico’s pipeline imports of U.S. natural gas were a record near 7.9 billion cubic feet a day in August, with gas for electricity generation in Mexico last month at an all-time high 5.8 Bcf/d, Wood Mackenzie says in a release. The firm projects that exports to Mexico have reached their 2026 peak. While volumes remain strong in early September, “Mexican gas and power markets are set to enter a gradual seasonal decline, driven by easing cooling loads, shoulder-season maintenance windows, and holiday-related demand softness.” The medium-term trend remains upward, however, as Mexico continues expanding its fleet of combined-cycle power plants, Wood Mackenzie adds. Apple stock just had its best day in five weeks as John Ternus took over from Tim Cook as CEO, becoming just the company's third chief executive this century.
The rally has pushed Apple away from a support zone near $310 and back toward its late-July record area near $340 — giving shareholders a natural way to define both their downside and upside with options.
Apple (AAPL) was trading around $325 early this week, almost exactly halfway between those two levels. That sets up a strategy known as a collar.
A collar isn't a standalone options bet. The investor must own 100 Apple shares — either already held or bought outright — and then layer the options on top. In this case, that means buying one Sept. 18 $310 put and selling one Sept. 18 $340 call.
With Apple at $324.77 when the trade was priced, the $310 put cost about $2.17 per share, or $217 for one contract. The $340 call brought in about $2.12 per share, or $212.

Lavish Enterprises (USOTC:VXIT) has introduced FleetPath Ace, an autonomous trucking operator designed to perform defined operational tasks across dispatch, billing, safety, maintenance, finance and other carrier functions, with live autonomous execution planned as part of FleetPath's beta rollout.
FleetPath Ace is designed to automate operational work including invoicing checks, detention monitoring, compliance, document processing and maintenance requirements.

Eagle Capital Management, an investment management company, released its second quarter 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. In the quarter, Eagle Capital Management discussed how enthusiasm around AI capital spending has driven strong S&P 500 earnings growth while also increasing risks from elevated valuations, concentrated demand, and aggressive investment **** umptions. Eagle remains a strong believer in AI but prefers constructing a portfolio that can perform across multiple outcomes rather than relying on one forecast. The firm believes current earnings can overstate underlying economics because semiconductor equipment is depreciated over several years, while free cash flow growth remains much weaker. It also expects competition and additional capacity across AI labs, hyperscalers, and semiconductors to eventually create winners and losers. These dynamics are encouraging Eagle to recycle capital toward attractive opportunities outside the most crowded AI trades while maintaining selective exposure to high quality beneficiaries. The portfolio trades at a 20% market discount with faster expected EPS growth. Please review the Strategy's top five holdings for key selections.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Eagle Capital Management highlighted Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT). Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is a multinational software company that develops and supports software, services, devices, and solutions, holding dominant positions in software, cloud infrastructure, generative AI, and gaming. On August 18, 2026, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) closed at $481.63 per share, reflecting a market capitalization of $3.57 trillion. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) posted a one‑month return of 23.39%, while its shares lost 4.76% over the past 52 weeks.
Eagle Capital Management stated the following regarding Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Amazon Web Services ("AWS"), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform ("GCP") are highly profitable businesses with strong growth, margins, and returns on capital. We own positions in each. These businesses are growing faster and will be even bigger than we previously thought. However, there is little question that the industry structure they inhabit is worse than it was a few years ago.
Software is controversial due to fears of AI driven disruption. AI makes it easier to build software and will change workflows in how it is used. We believe there will be heightened competition and greater separation between winners and losers over the coming years. The industry is deservedly trading at a higher risk premium, but within the market there are plenty of mispricings.

The wait for Apple customers to see payments from a class-action lawsuit involving iPhones 15 and 16 just got a few months shorter.
On Thursday, Aug. 13, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California granted permission to move a final approval hearing for the Apple settlement from September 2027 to February 2027, according to court documents obtained by USA TODAY. The settlement is part of a class-action lawsuit alleging that Apple deceived customers about artificial intelligence enhancements in new iPhones in 2024. In May, Apple agreed to pay $250 million to settle the case.
The lawsuit accuses Apple of marketing new AI technology, including Siri enhancements, while advertising the iPhone 16 at the time. However, the device did not contain the features when it was released, according to court filings. Apple denied the allegations.
Here's what to know about the ongoing lawsuit.
Peter Landsheft of California brought the lawsuit against Apple in March 2025. Several other plaintiffs have since joined the case.

Choosing between a high-growth technology powerhouse and a steady consumer leader requires a look at whether you prefer rapid innovation or predictable recurring revenue. Axon Enterprise Inc (NASDAQ:AXON) and Chewy Inc (NYSE:CHWY) offer very different paths.
Axon provides mission-critical hardware and software for law enforcement, making it a vital infrastructure play for public safety. Chewy dominates the digital pet supply market by focusing on high-frequency consumable goods. While their industries differ, both companies utilize technology to build deep competitive moats in their respective sectors.
Axon Enterprise operates as a leader among defense stocks by providing an integrated ecosystem of Taser energy devices, body-worn cameras, and cloud-based evidence management software. The company primarily serves federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, but it is expanding its reach into fire, EMS, and commercial security markets. This strategy creates a sticky business model where hardware sales lead to long-term software subscriptions for data storage and ******* ysis.
In FY 2025, revenue reached nearly $2.8 billion, representing a roughly a third increase over the prior year. The company reported net income of nearly $125 million, down from $377 million in 2024, resulting in a net margin of approximately 5% in 2025. This performance highlights the company's challenge of scaling its operations while maintaining positive returns for its shareholders.
As of its December 2025 balance sheet, the debt-to-equity ratio is roughly 0.6x, a metric comparing total debt to shareholder equity to show reliance on loans. Free cash flow for the period was nearly $75.1 million, though stock-based compensation represented roughly 300% of operating cash flow, meaning reported cash generation is heavily inflated by this non-cash add-back.

A blue-chip consulting giant is trading at a deep discount after a punishing year, forcing investors to decide if the market is offering a bargain or simply pricing in the inevitable.
How can IT consulting powerhouse that serves the world's biggest companies trade for nearly half the market's multiple? After a year that saw its stock fall 35% while the S&P 500 climbed, Accenture (ACN) now trades at just 13.6 times earnings, a steep discount to the S&P 500 median of 24.4. For bargain hunters, this raises the essential question: is this a rare opportunity to buy quality on sale, or is it a trap signaling a business in decline?
The business still generates significant cash.
On paper, Accenture's financial engine looks sound. The company's operating margin over the last twelve months is a healthy 15.8%, a figure that held steady from the year before. It converts sales into cash efficiently, with an operating cash flow margin of 18.0%. That translates to a free cash flow yield of 11.9%, a number that suggests the market price is well-covered by actual cash generation. These are not the vital signs of a deteriorating business. The one clear blemish is slower top-line growth; its 3-year average annual revenue growth of 4.8% trails the S&P 500 median of 7.8%.
The market is pricing in a slowdown.

Investors used to think of August as a dull month for the market. That is not really true. July is the dull month; beginning in August, volatility increases and generally rises into October.
This is a seasonal pattern that is verifiable from the accompanying chart of "seasonal VIX," going back to 1989. Look at the chart below: Early in the year, there is often a volatility increase. It was recently most prominent in March 2020 and April 2025, and it is noted in the chart by VIX VIX rising into point "A" in mid-March, using all the years in question.
