Fashion designer Todd Snyder remembers the first time he learned a celebrity was a fan of his work. It was 2013, just two years after he launched his eponymous menswear brand following career-making turns at Ralph Lauren, Gap Inc. and J. Crew.
"We were all sitting there together because it was maybe only five of us in the company. We were still very small," Snyder recalls. "The guy who runs our e-comm said, 'Oh my God, Ryan Gosling just ordered from us!' We were small enough that we could see orders when they came in."

Kansas State (1-0) takes on Washington State (0-1) in the first ever meeting between the schools. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 AM on Fort Riley Day at Bill Snyder Family Stadium and the game will be broadcast on TNT. As usual, all these details and much more can be found in Jon Morse's How To Watch post.
In the opener for both teams, Wazzu lost to Washington 24-10 in a much-too-early edition of the Apple Cup. Wazzu struggled on offense, though the score might have been closer if not for a couple of missed field goals and a couple of interceptions by transfer QB Cade Pinnick. Washington State's defense definitely had its moments, however. If you're like me, you probably missed the game in its entirety. Luckily, we have Drew Schneider on hand to break it all down.
The general gist seems to be that Wazzu may not be the best team on the Wildcats' schedule this year, but Kansas State overlooks the Cougars at its own peril. As Collin Klein himself noted, Pinnick can do some damage with his legs and K-State's defense seemed ever-so-slightly suspect against the run in the blowout win over Nicholls. There's also Wazzu's defense to consider, which managed to get a key 4th down stop on the goal line against Washington, thanks to stalwarts like Keith Brown, a linebacker who missed all of last season with injury and is now the teammate's de facto standard bearer.
I don't pay a lot of attention to fan Q&As, but there are some interesting tidbits in Kellis Robinett's weekly mailbag, including that Klein's recruiting philosophy is that every player is merely leasing a roster spot until someone beats them out of it. Competition is constant is apparently CK's mantra. See? There is only football.

DOWN GOES NO. 7 🚨🚨🚨

Aggies take down the Sun Devils in the first ranked win in program history!!!#GoAgs pic.twitter.com/OuVC8R3kFk
Tonight's match is against the weekend host, the #7 Arizona State Sun Devils, who are reeling after being upset yesterday against the unranked UC Davis Aggies. The Oregon/ASU match will be one that you won't want to miss – was last night's loss by ASU an outlier? Can the Ducks swoop in and tally an upset of their own? This is likely going to be a match where small mistakes will loom large, and we're certain to get a sense of where Oregon is at before the grind of Big Ten play in a couple of weeks.

WATERBURY - High school football's double-wing offense is affectionately known by smashmouth running game enthusiasts as the "hammer."
Naugatuck was down 14 points in its season opener against Holy Cross on Thursday night at Municipal Stadium's Ray Snyder Sr. Field, but that changed once the visitors went to the hammer offense.
The Greyhounds scored three unanswered touchdowns, the last two runs of 15 and 4 yards by Brandon Andoh behind a monster offensive line, to stun the Crusaders 27-20.
Andoh's 4-yard score with 33.4 seconds left in the game and Gabriel Bello's third extra point in four attempts gave Naugatuck a 7-point lead, its first of the game.
The Greyhounds' defense made sure a last-ditch Hail Mary pass from Crusaders quarterback Brady Lombardo came up short of the end zone. That set off a massive celebration by Naugatuck and its student section.

MANHATTAN — Kansas State football did what it was supposed to do when opening the season against a lesser opponent and setting the tone for the start of the season.
The Wildcats won the game 71-3 against Nicholls to open the Collin Klein era on Saturday, Sept. 5, at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. It was the first time K-State had scored 70 or more points in a game since scoring 76 against Ball State in 2000.
Here's how we graded the Wildcats' performance.
The Wildcats cruised, and quarterback Avery Johnson played a clean game, while they showed some promise in their ability to run the ball. The much-discussed banged-up offensive line held up. The only negative was Jay Harris' lost fumble.
It was great on paper, but you do wonder how it would have looked if Nicholls had a quarterback who could throw an accurate ball. Nicholls missed several wide-open receivers throughout the evening. Can't complain too much after Darien Whitaker created a turnover off of a strip sack.

MANHATTAN — Kansas State football couldn't have asked for a better start to the Collin Klein era. Now, it's on to more challenging opponents, with Washington State visiting Bill Snyder Family Stadium next week.
The Wildcats won 71-3 against Nicholls in Manhattan on Saturday, Sept. 5.
It's hard to take away too much when Nicholls (1-1) was as bad as advertised. Still, there were some notables from K-State (1-0) taking care of business.
Oklahoma State transfer Rodney Fields was the first running back on the field instead of Joe Jackson. He looked like the best running back on Saturday night.
Fields finished the game with 14 carries for 101 yards and a touchdown. His best run came on a 26-yard touchdown in which he accelerated once he got to the edge of the Colonels' defense.

In Roads to Retirement: Act I – The Journey Begins, Jeff Snyder sets the stage for a thoughtful exploration of what retirement really means by introducing two people whose lives could not look more different. One is an artist in Marin who has chosen a simple, creative life living on a sailboat and staying grounded in what matters most. The other is a Northern California firefighter working hard to build stability and opportunity for his growing family.
Jeffrey Snyder, Broadcast Retirement Network
Hello everyone, I'm Jeff Snyder. I've devoted over two decades of my life helping Americans across this country save and plan for their financial future. I'm starting out on a journey to educate Americans and help get people in this country saving.
Join me as we go on the roads to retirement. Marin County is one of the top five richest counties in the United States, but it's also home to artists, shipbuilders, and tax-free, anchor-out citizens who avoid rent by settling in the open waters of Richardson Bay. Sean here pays his rent and makes a decent home of his 25-foot shoreliner with his loyal first mate and unassuming guard dog, Oscar.
It's really a beautiful location you live at. This marina is wonderful, real serene, quiet.

Khamzat Chimaev is back on the RAF mats and he has a fellow former UFC champion in his sights as he takes on Tyron Woodley on Saturday in the RAF Moscow main event.
RAF Moscow goes down at VTB Arena, with Chimaev and Woodley headlining, and Russian Olympic wrestling champion Abdulrashid Sadulaev taking on Zac Braunagel in the co-main event.
This marks Chimaev's second RAF appearance following a pinfall win over Dillon Danis this past June, while Woodley is also coming off of an RAF victory over Joaquin Buckley, Woodley's first combat sports victory of any kind since 2018. Previously, Chimaev and Woodley held UFC ***** les at 185 pounds and 170 pounds, respectively.
Sadulaev won gold in freestyle wrestling at the 2016 and 2020 Olympics and made his RAF debut in July against fellow Olympic champion and Kyle Snyder. Snyder picked up another win in their legendary rivalry, defeating Sadulaev by pinfall at RAF Georgia.
Also competing Saturday are wrestling stars Jordan Burroughs, Kyle Dake, and Kennedy Blades, as well as UFC fighters Bo Nickal and Shara Magomedov, former two-division ONE Championship ***** leholder Anatoly Malykhin, and former Bellator standout Neiman Gracie.

MANHATTAN — If you asked Kansas State football players who played in Week 0 a year ago, you'd probably get a unanimous response saying that they're happy they're not playing in it this year.
The Wildcats avoid a 4,140-mile flight to Dublin, Ireland, this year, and get to watch Week 0 from their couches, waiting for the Sept. 5 opener down the street from their apartments at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
There are a couple of relevant football games for K-Staters to watch, including their opening-night opponent, who takes the field nine days before they'll make their way to The Little Apple.
Here is what we're watching this weekend.
The Wildcats will get up-to-date film on Nicholls, as its Week 1 opponent is among the FCS programs kicking off the season on Thursday, Aug. 27, with a 6 p.m. home game against Mississippi Valley State.

Duke Football is close to opening up their season as the defending ACC champions. What's in store for them? On Episode 840, we speak with Anna Snyder of the Fayetteville Observer on where the football team is at as they finish out the preseason.
The biggest question facing the Blue Devils this season: who will start at QB? All signs point to either transfer Walker Eget or sophomore Dan Mahan. Whoever is under center, they will have Nate Sheppard to hand the ball to and Jeremiah Hasley to throw the ball downfield to as they try to put points on the board. Anna takes us through the offense and defense and speaks to what qualities will be the calling card for Duke this season as they seek to defend their ******* le against all doubters.
We also dip a bit into the basketball, asking Anna about the summer and which players have been the ones to stand out in practice. We also see which non-conference games have her the most excited about the season as Duke hopes to add to their banner collection atop Cameron Indoor Stadium.
We end the show with an update on Mike Corey's recovery from a tragic car accident that claimed the life of his son, Teddy. Mike physically is doing much better and appreciates all the well-wishes. Emotionally, that toll will take a bit longer for him and his family to process. A memorial fund has been established in Teddy's honor, and we encourage everyone to share it widely and pay tribute to Teddy's life that was taken far too soon.

The AP Top 25 poll came out on Monday and there were certainly teams that we viewed as both underrated and overrated heading into the 2026 college football season.
But what about the unranked teams? Typically, every single season, there is at least one unranked program that finishes high at the end of the season.
Here are four candidates for teams that start unranked but could finish in the AP Top 10.

Red Sox Fan Favorite Who Was Drafted by Yankees Retires After 11-Year Career originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Boston Red Sox have had many players come and go over the past few seasons. Some stayed for a few weeks, while others stayed for years.
Former Red Sox fan-favorite Rob Refsnyder was one of those guys who stayed for a few years. Refsnyder, now 35 years old, was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 2012 MLB Draft. He made his debut for New York in 2015.
Refsnyder eventually joined the Red Sox in 2022. He was mainly used as a platoon bat and could really swing it against left-handed pitching. The California native slashed .276/.364/.440 with 27 home runs and 48 doubles.
Joining the Seattle Mariners this past offseason, Refsnyder struggled a ton, hitting just .140 with 37 strikeouts and an OPS+ of 34 in 53 games. He was released by the Mariners on Aug. 4.

The latest news and notes about the Houston Astros:
Four times since 1920 has a player led all of MLB in AVG, HR, and RBI. The last player to do it was Mickey Mantle in 1956. 70 years later, Yordan Alvarez is challenging to be the next to do it:
Some Astros top draft picks from this year's draft are headed to Class A Fayetteville.
After failing to land a quality right-handed outfield bat at the deadline, the Astros still find themselves in search of one. Recently released players like Austin Hays, Rob Refsnyder and Jorge Soler are reported to be on the target list:

How tough am I? How tough am I? I watched that entire Mariners game… with the audio on.
The Mariners couldn't cut it at the Salty Spittoon on Tuesday, losing to the Tigers 8-0 in the first game following the trade deadline. Emerson Hancock pitched fine but had some poor defense behind him. Seranthnoy Domínguez made his Mariners debut and got shelled. The lineup posted a big ol' zero. Maybe they should try Weenie Hut Juniors instead. The Mariners had the gall to implode on SpongeBob Night at the ballpark. If you see a link in the writing that follows, give it a click if you wish to sing along.
Have you finished those errands?
This was the first game after the trade deadline, allowing the Mariners to unveil what they've been working on the last few weeks. It's the moment you've been waiting for, in other words. Taylor Ward and Domínguez joined the team. Jhonny Pereda made the trip up I-5 to replace Mitch Garver, who was let go along with Rob Refsnyder. Even Brendan Donovan returned from his latest trip to the injured list. This felt like a good opportunity for a reset. It was not.
Keep going, you're good

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — An employee was among three people killed in a shooting at an In-N-Out Burger restaurant in southern Idaho, the fast-food chain's owner said.
"My heart is broken, my chest is heavy, my eyes burn from the tears I've shed. We lost one of our beautiful **** ociates tonight," In-N-Out owner Lynsi Snyder said in a statement released early Sunday on social media. "In-N-Out will be mourning with the families and praying for them as they tread through a very painful season."
The FBI on Sunday encouraged the public to submit images and videos related to the shooting Saturday in Twin Falls that left seven other people wounded, some critically.
The In-N-Out had opened just about a week earlier, on July 24, as part of the California-based company's recent expansion to Idaho.
Snyder did not identify the worker. Officials were still trying to notify relatives of victims and so were not yet releasing the names, ages or other details about the people hurt in the shooting, Twin Falls spokesperson Josh Palmer said Saturday.

At the All-Star Break's conclusion, I wrote on expectations, and their virtue as an exercise with this franchise towards a more hopeful future near and far. These Seattle Mariners, 3.0 games back of the AL West and the third Wild Card spot alike, have earned little and less belief. They've played poorly, wasted chances, and frittered opportunities to cleanse their palates. Much has rightly been made of the necessity for the core players to perform at or near the standards they've set for several years. But Seattle is giving up massive production on the fringes, and they've forced themselves into an uncomfortable, desperate position.
It is time for them to call up Michael Arroyo.
Seattle needs right-handed hitting, and with J.P. Crawford sidelined at least for several weeks, there is no easy solution at third base. Brendan Donovan returns on Tuesday to rotate around the field, but it's hard to look at the lineup as constructed and see anywhere for him to play more frequently than the hot corner. Arroyo has played some third base, but it's realistically not where he could be thrown in, although his defense is less egregious and more limited if asked to play second base or corner outfield. But they need his bat, because the Mariners need to take some risks, and rotating Weston Wilson, Victor Robles, Rob Refsnyder, Leo Rivas, and Mitch Garver through to take flaccid swing after flaccid swing is a Wile. E. Coyote kind of road that the Mariners have been slamming into the wall of all summer. The Rainiers' roster is stocked with similar players who've struggled to set themselves apart this year and over many years, from Connor Joe to Patrick Wisdom to Stuart Fairchild, along with injured options like Ryan Bliss and Brennen Davis. With Luke Raley seemingly ailing, the M's have to be more aggressive to rev up their offense before it's too late.
View Link
Arroyo is a 21 year old Colombian ~utilityman whose profile made him the most-heralded hitting prospect from his burgeoning baseball nation since Colombia's first and greatest star: SS Edgar Renteria. The 5'10, compact youngster has never been at the top of Seattle's prospect list, but has hit his way into top-100 status nationally over the past couple seasons, with an approach I first wrote about in the winter before the 2024 season. Following a strong debut at age 18 with the Low-A Modesto Nuts, I said this of Arroyo:

In the definition of a back-and-forth battle, the Mariners outslugged the Dodgers with a season-high five home runs in a 7-6 loss for the reigning champs. Neither team seemed capable of holding onto a lead for any meaningful period until the Mariners jumped in front in the eighth thanks to a two-run shot from Dominic Canzone, his second and Seattle's fifth homer of the game.
As different as the seasons of the two starting pitchers in this matchup might be, for one game, they both encountered the same problem, completely allergic to the prospect of a shutdown inning. On four separate occasions, a team took the lead in the first five innings only to see its starter unable to put a zero on the board in the following half-inning.
Justin Wrobleski has thrived this season with the ability to raise his level according to the situation, but what does he do when the opposition ambushes him? The Mariners managed to score five runs off the left-hander without even having a single at-bat with a runner in scoring position against him—courtesy of not two, not three, but four home runs against a pitcher who had allowed a total of three long ****** prior to this game. Cal Raleigh, Julio Rodríguez, Rob Refsnyder, and Dominic Canzone all left the yard. While the homers hit by Rodríguez and Raleigh could be categorized as mistake pitches, the ones by Canzone and Refsnyder came on well-located fastballs at or well above the strike zone—it stands to reason that Wrobleski's heater didn't have the same life on it, or that the M's guessed right on multiple occasions.
For the Dodgers' offense against Castillo, it was an eventful game from start to finish, but one that could've been more dominant. The M's veteran starter allowed a leadoff bomb to Shohei Ohtani and had to deal with trouble in some form or another for his entire outing.
The Sho has started! pic.twitter.com/rfu4k1gr7W

However, year-to-date, the fund (Class I Shares) increased by 23.17%, surpassing the 22.57% and 22.99% returns of the indexes, respectively. The second quarter's performance was mainly driven by holdings in the industrial sector, particularly aerospace and defense, as well as energy. Its underperformance was due to holdings and an underweight position in the information technology sector. The Firm remains optimistic about value stocks, citing their attractive valuations and strong free cash flow generation. In addition, please check the Strategy's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.
In its Q2 2026 investor letter, Brandes Small Cap Value Fund highlighted its new purchase, The Campbell's Company (NASDAQ:CPB). Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin is one of the longest-tenured players on the roster. He was drafted by the organization in 2019 and hasn't looked back. Even in the midst of the Dan Snyder drama, McLaurin is one of a handful of players who stuck around when things got hard.
Last season, McLaurin's loyalty was rewarded with a three-year contract extension worth an average of $29 million per year. The biggest problem McLaurin has (and has had since he was drafted) is that he doesn't have a counterpart to take some of the workload. Sure, there are other receivers on the roster, but McLaurin has been tasked with carrying the bulk of the workload his entire career.
Recently, McLaurin was asked about the wide receivers' room and if the Commanders should add another receiver. He replied in typical McLaurin fashion.
"Yeah, that's not really my job to add or subtract on the team," McLaurin replied. "My job is to embrace whoever they bring in. If they bring someone in, if they don't bring anybody in, I have the utmost confidence that the guys in our room are going to step it up."
McLaurin goes on to discuss how the NFL presents opportunities and that guys step up, "every single time."

It is tough to sweep a four-game series, unless you are the impossibly hot Boston Red Sox. Perhaps Shane Bieber took it upon himself to make Kyle Snyder, Kevin Cash, and the front office beliebers and effort to acquire him before the August 3rd deadline. Bieber had his second consecutive fantastic outing since the break with seven innings of one-run baseball allowing just three baserunners before handing it over to the A-pen to finish the game.
This was the type of game Toronto envisioned this winter, but has rarely been able to put together throguhout this frustrating season. The three runs scored today was the most runs the team has scored in their last six games, but it was the pitching that was story of the game and why the Rays offense was mostly lifeless today.
Bieber himself had just 8 swings and misses on 39 pitches, but he did a fantastic job working an extremely liberal strike zone to his advantage for seven innings:
The zone was questionable all day, but it was not until the 7th inning that any Rays batter challenged a pitch. Jonny DeLuca challenged a first pitch cutter that was well off the plate and had it overturned:
There were not many pitches more aggregiously wrong than this one, but Bieber certainly enjoyed a fair number of favorable strike calls in this contest yet the Rays were stubborn in using their challenges until DeLuca apparently had enough in the 7th inning:

Two Saints — and several more — have the chance to go marching into professional baseball.
Four more Jacksonville-area ballplayers, two from Sandalwood High School, received the call during the second day of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, which concluded July 12 in Philadelphia.
Current Sandalwood senior Bane Barker and Sandalwood graduate Dakota Stone, now pitching at the University of North Florida, joined Bishop Snyder High School senior Cody Boshell and former Bartram Trail High School pitcher Ashton Pocol on the list of selections in the 20-round draft.
Boshell, a combination pitcher and first baseman at Bishop Snyder, came off the board in the 11th round at No. 326 to the Arizona Diamondbacks. In 2026, he batted .284 with five doubles, three home runs, 16 RBI and a .920 OPS, while finishing 4-2 with a 2.53 earned run average and 67 strikeouts on the mound.
Boshell, who hit 16 home runs during his four years at Bishop Snyder, now faces the decision whether to sign with the Diamondbacks or to proceed to college baseball at Tennessee, the 2024 College World Series champion.
