Allen Park — One day after star running back Jahmyr Gibbs missed the Detroit Lions' first training camp practice of the year, coach Dan Campbell said he's "not sweating" the negotiation tactic but did think an extension would be done by now.
Gibbs, the No. 12 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, became extension-eligible this offseason and is expected to receive a deal that pays him north of $20 million annually.
According to a photograph from the Lions' website, Gibbs arrived in Allen Park for camp Tuesday. He and Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson are reportedly holding in for new deals as they look to reset the running back market.
"I shouldn't have said 'bellcow,' right?" Campbell joked, implying that he gave Gibbs too much leverage when he said during the spring that the team was going to "hang our hat" on him. "'Well, hey, Coach said bellcow.'"
Campbell said he's unsure whether Gibbs will return to the practice without a new deal, and mentioned Gibbs had "a little bit of a back" issue during the conditioning test but didn't indicate that it was something serious.

NEW DELHI: Ajinkya Rahane never sought the spotlight. In an era dominated by classy stroke-makers and larger-than-life personalities, he quietly built a reputation as one of India's most dependable overseas batters and one of the country's most respected leaders.

On Thursday, the 38-year-old brought the curtain down on his international career, ending a journey that spanned more than a decade and produced some of Indian cricket's most memorable moments.

Having played 85 Tests, 90 ODIs and 20 T20Is, Rahane finished with 8,414 international runs, 15 centuries and 51 half-centuries. Yet, numbers only tell part of his story.

"The reality of life is that everything has a beginning, and everything has an end. When that time comes, you simply have to respect it and move forward. I always relied on timing in my batting, and I've always understood its important," Rahane said in his retirement video.
If there is one chapter that defines Rahane's legacy, it is India's remarkable 2020-21 Test series win in Australia.

After India were bowled out for 36 in Adelaide and Virat Kohli returned home on paternity leave, few believed the injury-hit side could compete, let alone win.

Rahane stepped in as captain and led a depleted Indian team to a stunning 2-1 series victory, one of the greatest triumphs in Indian cricket history.
His century in the Boxing Day Test at Melbourne not only rescued India's campaign but also made him the only Indian to score a Boxing Day Test hundred against Australia both as a player and as captain.

Under his leadership, India never lost a Test match, making his captaincy record (6 matches with 4 wins and 2 draws) one of the finest in Indian cricket.
Rahane earned a reputation for producing his best performances away from home. He became the first Indian batter to score both his maiden Test and ODI centuries in SENA countries, proving his ability to thrive in the toughest conditions.

His 12 Test hundreds often came in pressure situations, and remarkably, India never lost a Test whenever Rahane scored a century. He was also the first Indian to score a century in the World Test Championship, adding another milestone to an already impressive career.
One of his finest individual performances came against South Africa when he became the only Indian batter to score centuries in both innings of a Test while batting at No. 5 or lower.

Celtic's potential Champions League play-off opponents became slightly clearer after the latest second qualifying round ties, including a stunning comeback win by Danish champions AGF Aarhus.
The Scottish champions already knew that Norwegian counterparts Viking Stavanger and Austria's LASK are potential opponents as both have automatically qualified for the play-off round and will be on the unseeded side of the draw.
However, three other potential opponents will be decided by matches with first legs on 4/5 August and second legs on 11 August.
AGF were 4-1 down from their first leg at home to Polish champions Lech Poznan but stunned their hosts by scoring three times in 90 minutes to take the tie into extra time on Wednesday.
Lech, for whom former Celtic winger Luis Palma played the first 68 minutes, scored first in extra-time, but the Danes equalised before winning the penalty shoot-out.

The 2026 AUSL championship became the most-watched professional softball game on record, as the softball league continued to report strong viewership in its second season.
The championship game between the Utah Talons and Chicago Bandits averaged 732,000 viewers on ABC Sunday, a record for a softball game. The game was the first professional softball game to air on broadcast television.
Overall, according to Sports Business Journal, ESPN games averaged 375,000 viewers, up 150% from last year. Games also aired on MLB Network and CBS Sports Network.
"It just continued to build, crowds grew, ratings grew as the season went, and sponsor activation grew as we went as well," Athletes Unlimited co-founder and CEO Jon Patricof told Sports Business Journal.
The AUSL made a notable change for the 2026 season, moving teams back to their home markets after they toured in 2025. The league recorded 25 sellouts in 2026, with the Portland Cascades accounting for nearly half.

Gerard Martín is not too bothered with Real Madrid making big headlines this summer and believes Barcelona will remain competitive this season.
The defender, who became a starter last season as a center-back and is poised to play a big role this season, was asked in a radio interview about Madrid's busy time in the market.
Barça's main rivals brought in José Mourinho as manager and signed Ibrahima Konaté, Denzel Dumfries, Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva and Yan Diomandé in a high-profile transfer in the last few days, but Martín is not paying a lot of attention to those moves.
"Frankly, I don't care who they sign. I'm focused on us, what's in our hands. Let them sign whoever they want, we'll go and compete."
It's very easy to confuse activity with competence, and Madrid's big signings after bringing in a new manager are an attempt to fix the mess of last season, when they… made big signings after bringing in a new manager.

ESPN's Bill Barnwell made an All-Backup Team, and two New England Patriots players made the cut.
Barnwell used all backup players and rotation guys to make a 53-man roster. He forced himself to take at least one backup from each team, but he did not take more than two players. His main goal was to go after players who participate regularly on special teams that help fill out the backend of the lineup.
It's also worth noting that he wanted to incorporate rookies on his team. However, the Patriots did not have a rookie representative in this situation. The players Barnwell chose for the Patriots were wide receiver DeMario Douglas and defensive tackle Cory Durden.
Douglas would fall under the category of a rotation guy, although that might change this season, considering he's been working with the starters at training camp. The wide receiver was a productive playmaker last season, recording 31 catches for 447 yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Durden was initially signed by the Patriots as a member of the practice squad. However, he worked his way up the depth chart and became a regular contributor later in the season.

The rivalry between Donald Trump and LeBron James has taken another turn after Stephen A. Smith suggested there may be a deeper, lesser-known motivation.
LeBron James and Donald Trump's rift has been playing out in public for years, and it's rarely been subtle.
Things really boiled over back in 2017 when LeBron famously called Trump a "bum" on social media after the president withdrew a White House invitation for the Warriors.
From there, it became a running battle. LeBron didn't hold back on calling out Trump's stance on race and social issues, while Trump routinely took shots at LeBron's intelligence and threw shade by claiming he preferred Michael Jordan.
And his latest tirade about LeBron even saw him labelled as a 'racist'.

Nick Saban spoke, and everyone shook their heads. Or rolled their eyes. Or, they barked in laughter.
And, let's just say we weren't laughing with Saban when he recently made the case the SEC retains conference supremacy despite not sending a team to the national championship game in any of the past three seasons.
"First of all, whoever wins the national championship doesn't define who has the best conference," Saban said on ESPN. "I think the best conference gets defined by how many good teams you have from top to bottom."
The GOAT retired and became a shill. Sad.
Speaking of the bottom, did anyone get a look at Arkansas last season? Not pretty.

Columbia Threadneedle Investments, an investment management company, released its "Columbia Seligman Global Technology Fund" second quarter 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. During the quarter, the Fund's Institutional Class shares returned 50.34%, outperforming the MSCI World Information Technology Index's 33.65% gain. Stock selection in semiconductors, technology hardware and software, together with an off-benchmark electrical equipment allocation, supported relative performance, while exposure to financials, consumer discretionary and healthcare detracted. Technology stocks rallied as concerns over the Iran conflict eased and AI infrastructure spending boosted demand for semiconductors, memory, networking, servers and power solutions. The Fund expects AI and data-centre investment to remain strong, supported by broadening earnings growth and improving software bookings, cloud consumption and customer spending. However, geopolitical uncertainty, higher interest rates and heavy AI investment could pressure valuations and free cash flow. The strategy holds 50–75 technology companies across market capitalisations and uses bottom-up GARP research to identify misunderstood and undervalued businesses in the technology industry. In addition, please check the Fund's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Columbia Seligman Global Technology Fund highlighted Lam Research Corporation (NASDAQ:LRCX). Lam Research Corporation (NASDAQ:LRCX) designs, manufactures, markets, refurbishes, and services semiconductor processing equipment used in the fabrication of integrated circuits. On July 27, 2026, Lam Research Corporation (NASDAQ:LRCX) closed at $291.61 per share. One-month return of Lam Research Corporation (NASDAQ:LRCX) was -32.70% and its shares gained 194.73% over the past 52 weeks. Lam Research Corporation (NASDAQ:LRCX) has a market capitalization of $364.68 billion with a 52-week trading range between $90.94 – $438.50.
Columbia Seligman Global Technology Fund stated the following regarding Lam Research Corporation (NASDAQ:LRCX) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Lam Research Corporation (NASDAQ:LRCX) was one of the largest positions in the fund during the quarter. The stock appreciated as investors became increasingly optimistic that AI-driven data-center spending would sustain robust demand for advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment, while memory customers accelerated investments in high-bandwidth memory and dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) capacity. Lam stock also benefited from improving semiconductor-industry fundamentals, strong earnings execution and growing confidence that leading-edge logic and memory capital expenditures would remain elevated through 2026, supporting Lam's revenue and margin outlook."

Apple (AAPL) on Tuesday briefly became the second publicly traded company in history to hit a market capitalization of $5 trillion.
The tech giant hit the milestone less than a year after topping $4 trillion in October 2025.
Apple stock is up roughly 24% year to date and nearly 60% over the past 12 months, driven by strong iPhone sales.
Investors have criticized Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple over the past few years, concerned that the company was too far behind in the AI race. While Apple initially debuted its Apple Intelligence platform in 2024, it delayed key parts of the software, including an upgraded version of Siri.
That led to executive shakeups at the company. Apple eventually signed a deal to use Google's (GOOG, GOOGL) Gemini AI models to power the voice ***** istant.

Jordyn Woods opened up about the challenges of growing up in the public eye. The 28-year-old social media personality, who is engaged to Karl-Anthony Towns, said she experienced an adult life at a young age.
The NBA Finals are over, but Woods' lucky bag remains a hot topic. Talking about her viral game-day accessory, she said it became a lucky charm for her and Knicks fans everywhere. The New York Knicks won their first NBA championship since 1973 this year. Fans credited the team's success to many factors, including Woods' lucky bag.
Woods told Bustle in a July 29 interview that losing her father in 2017 forced her to grow up quickly. Woods said she has always felt like the same person she was as a child and described herself as an "old soul." She added that the journey was not easy or quick and required a lot of healing.
She said she grew up without a role model she could truly relate to. She explained that while her social media may show one side of her life, the person she is beyond the screen is very different. She then recollected, "The bag was pretty epic, because that was the most organic marketing I could have ever had. I couldn't even pay for marketing like that; it just happened. I don't think I've really processed how crazy that whole thing is." Woods created the bag under her own label, Woods by Jordyn.
Woods rose to fame through her childhood friendship with Kylie Jenner and appearances on Keeping Up with the Kardashians. While the fame may look rosy, it always has a flip side. In 2019, she found herself at the center of a highly publicized cheating scandal involving Tristan Thompson, who was dating Khloé Kardashian at the time.

Lele Pons is sharing one of the toughest parts of her life after becoming a mother. Recently, the influencer shared about her pregnancy on a podcast. She shared that she faced physical and mental struggles when she became pregnant with her first child. Pons also revealed how motherhood had changed her way of thinking since having her daughter Eloísa.
During an appearance on The Squeeze podcast with Tay Lautner, Pons said that she "didn't like being pregnant" because she had to stop taking her mental health medication. She said doctors asked her to stop the medication as soon as she learned she was pregnant. Pons found out she was expecting while she was in Las Vegas after vomiting unexpectedly and taking a pregnancy test. She stated she was four weeks pregnant and had stopped birth control just two months earlier.
Pons said she had been on medication for OCD since she was 10. She called the experience horrible, and her symptoms became difficult to control. "I was a different person, I was an unbalanced person. I was not stable," she said. She added, "I've never been out of control like that," and said even her friends and family noticed the change.
The influencer also shared that she stopped seeing her therapist because she felt the sessions no longer helped her. She stated that she gained 50 pounds during her pregnancy and urged people not to compare their experiences. She added, "I don't like when people say like, the normal is this. No. No. No. The normal is whatever happens. You know? We're all different. We all have different bodies."
Despite all those struggles, every challenge became worth it after her daughter arrived, Pon said. "You only care about her health, Tay," she said. "You're not the main character anymore in your story," she added before calling motherhood "such an amazing love" and "a shocking love." On July 26, Pons and her husband, Guaynaa, welcomed their daughter, Eloísa, to the world and posted the news together on Instagram a day later.

An entertaining left-handed batter and bowler of seam and spin, Sobers played 93 Tests between 1954 and 1974, scoring 8,032 runs and taking 235 wickets.
The funeral was staged at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, the principle ground in Barbados and home to a pavilion named after Sobers.
Lloyd and fellow West Indies legends Brian Lara and Desmond Haynes were among those who spoke at the state service of thanksgiving, which was also attended by Barbados president Jeffrey Bostic, prime minister Mia Mottley and Barbadian music superstar Rihanna.

During a July 27 appearance on SiriusXM's Andy Cohen Live, Andy Cohen asked whether Hurley had met Billy Ray's daughter. "I have met Miley. She's adorable," Hurley replied.

Eddie Murphy became one of Hollywood's biggest stars at such a young age, and there was no obvious handbook waiting for him. He had other successful Black entertainers to look toward, but the advice he received was not always practical. James Brown, for instance, apparently believed the then up-and-coming young comedian's best path to a long career involved cleaner language and a shovel. Thankfully, the legendary Saturday Night Live veteran did not take his advice.
Murphy recalled the wonderfully strange conversation in Apple TV's Number One on the Call Sheet: Black Leading Men in Hollywood. The two-part documentary gathers prominent Black actors to discuss their breakthroughs, struggles and the people who helped them navigate the industry. His story begins with Brown warning that his famously profane stand-up act could shorten his time in show business. Per the Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood sketch performer:
James Brown told me to; he asked me to — he told me I should stop cursing. He said, 'You want to be in this business a long time? You can stop that cursing.'

Party of Five alum Scott Wolf and his estranged wife, The Real World: New Orleans alum Kelley Wolf, are facing another significant development in their highly publicized separation. According to TMZ, a Utah court has dismissed the misdemeanor harassment charges that Kelley previously faced.
After announcing their separation in June 2025, the couple's split became contentious. As Entertainment Weekly noted, Kelley was later placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold, and Scott obtained a restraining order. Not long after that, Kelley was charged with electronic communication harassment and electronic disclosure of personal identifying information.
On July 28, TMZ reported that, per legal documents they reviewed, the electronic harassment case has been dropped. The state of Utah, where the charges were filed, submitted a motion requesting that the misdemeanor charges Kelley faced be dismissed.

In addition, TMZ noted, prosecutors asked that the charges be dismissed with prejudice, meaning that they cannot be brought again. Court documents indicate the request followed Kelley's successful completion of a diversion agreement, though the terms of the agreement were not publicly disclosed.

Princess Diana got pregnant less than four months after her 1981 wedding to then-Prince Charles — and quickly became torn between her royal duty and debilitating morning sickness.
"With [Prince] William it was appalling, almost every time I stood up I was sick," she told Andrew Morton for his book, Diana: Her True Story — In Her Own Words, adding that she was "made to feel it was a nuisance" when she got sick during formal events, but felt obligated to attend anyway.
"There was only ever one cancellation when I was carrying William, the visit to the Duchy of Cornwall's estate," she continued, according to the book, which was released in 2017. "And I was made to feel so guilty by my husband for that."
The pressure came to a head in early 1982 while they were staying at Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, England. "Charles said I was crying wolf and I said I felt so desperate and I was crying my eyes out and he said: 'I'm not going to listen. You're always doing this to me. I'm going riding now,'" Diana recounted. "So I threw myself down the stairs. The Queen comes out, absolutely horrified, shaking – she was so frightened."
"I knew I wasn't going to lose the baby; quite bruised around the stomach," she added. And according to The Telegraph, the royal gynecologist, Sir George Pinker, was summoned to her side and found that the baby was uninjured.

The Dallas Cowboys held their annual pre-training camp opening press conference on Tuesday, with Jerry Jones, Brian Schottenheimer, and Stephen Jones taking to the podium like usual. For the first time in a long time, these heads of state for America's Team coming to the podium marked something significant before any of the three even said a word – the Cowboys have made it to the true ramp up for 2026 without any significant off the field drama, major contract disputes, or just Cowboys drama for the sake of drama.
The Cowboys' quiet offseason is hopefully just the start of a recipe for success in the regular season and beyond, but it became clear that the team's secret sauce they believe in is, in fact, the coaching across the board. Jerry seemed to understand that at this point in his ownership tenure the last thing any diehard fan wants to hear him talk about is his ability to select coaches. What fans have wanted to see is not only the right coaches in place, which the Cowboys will have to now prove once real practices begin Wednesday, but Jones and the rest of the front office giving whatever coaches are in place the freedom and **** e to hone in on the details of actually doing their jobs.
The Cowboys are doing that right now at a level that should excite fans considerably, and coach Schottenheimer started to get into this later on during opening remarks. The same rookie head coach that said the reason the Cowboys would be contenders with him at the helm was in part because of how hard he works before the 2025 season, said that his new rookie defensive coordinator Christian Parker is "maybe the hardest working coach I've ever been around".
Christian Parker with the Eagles
Parker's experience working with Vic Fangio, the way the Cowboys have supported him from the jump by getting players that fit the scheme, and how much he's impressed Schottenheimer, and the Cowboys attention to detail around coaching feels even fresher than even their previously-stated lack of drama. Parker's expertise across the defense is of course in the secondary, where Dallas actually spent free agency money on a safety this offseason.

Long before LeBron James bid farewell to the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason, the transition of power within the franchise began. Luka Dončić, whom the Lakers famously traded for in February 2025, became their crown jewel.
But James remained at the heart of JJ Redick's squad that season and this past season. James and Dončić co-existed remarkably well, each respecting the other's game while forming an entertaining three-headed attack with Austin Reaves.
Even though the Lakers have been planning their future around Dončić for a good bit of time now, it wasn't until James officially closed the door on his chapter in L.A. that Dončić stood alone in the spotlight. He's the undisputed face of the franchise, and he's reportedly embracing a leadership role that's seemingly heightened in the absence of James, a four-time NBA champion and four-time league MVP.
In fact, according to ESPN's Dave McMenamin, Dončić is hosting the entire Lakers roster in Slovenia for a four-day minicamp in August. The trip will feature workouts, golf, bonding and touring Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenia, McMenamin reported on Wednesday.
Dončić, a six-time All-NBA first teamer, is preparing for a pivotal season in his already prolific career. He played his way into the MVP conversation last season before a Grade 2 left hamstring strain effectively ended his campaign prematurely. He experienced that setback in early April and didn't make it back for the Lakers' postseason run, which came to a screeching halt in the Western Conference semifinals.

The NFL Players ******* ociation has investigated the circumstances surrounding the recent ACL tear suffered by Panthers linebacker Nic Scourton. And the NFLPA has concluded that the Panthers did nothing wrong.
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the NFLPA has reviewed the video of the injury. It confirmed the preliminary conclusion that it was simply an unfortunate injury.
The issue became a proper subject of curiosity given the negotiated limits of the five-day acclimation period. Among other things, it mandates no contact during practice.
Ultimately, it's one of the basic realities of training camp. A season-ending injury can happen at any time, to any player. And any one injury could potentially alter a team's prospects for the season.
Depending on the player and the team, it could alter the entire landscape of the coming season.

CHICAGO − Pat Fitzgerald is back in the Windy City. Only this time, he's wearing green instead of purple.
The first-year Michigan State football coach returned to his roots to speak at the Big Ten Media Days on Wednesday, July 29. Fitzgerald, a native of nearby Midlothian, Illinois, became an All-American and College Football Hall of Fame linebacker at Northwestern before going on to coach his alma mater from 2006-22. The Spartans hired him Dec. 1 to replace Jonathan Smith, who was fired after two seasons in East Lansing.
MSU is picked to finish 17th in the 18-team Big Ten in the USA Today preseason poll. The Spartans went 4-8 last season and are 33-38 overall and just 18-35 in conference games since Mark Dantonio retired after the 2019 season. They have missed a bowl game in five of those six seasons and have not played in the postseason since 2021.
Fitzgerald was 110-101 in his 17 seasons at Northwestern with a 65-76 Big Ten record and two West Division **** les. He was dismissed prior to the 2023 season.

LYTHAM ST. ANNES, England – Catriona Matthew celebrated her 2009 Women's British Open victory with a 3 a.m. feeding of daughter Sophie at the kitchen table and a cup of tea. At age 39, she became the first Scot to win the ****** le 11 weeks after giving birth.
"You just get on with it, don't you," Matthew said, rather matter-of-factly, of her remarkable feat 17 years ago at Royal Lytham and St. Annes.
As the AIG Women's British Open returns this week to Royal Lytham, Matthew's victory has become a kind of championship lore, a feat new moms like Alison Lee can't even fathom.
"It's just so incredible and almost unbelievable to me," said Lee, who made headlines contending at the U.S. Women's Open at Riviera earlier this summer with her 13-month son Levi. "It's so, so crazy. For me, comparing it to my own experience, I couldn't even swing a club until six, seven weeks, and by the time I was 11 weeks, like I was still so slow. I couldn't hit the ball anywhere. And for her to come out here and win a major, I mean, I'm just trying to survive, and I feel like I'm doing pretty good, you know?"
There are five moms in the field this week at Lytham, including Ryann O'Toole, who is expecting her first child.

The Eastern Conference was a battlefield last season.
Each team that made the playoffs fought tooth and nail for their spot. Each round only became more intense. Going into next season, fans of the NHL can expect to see the competitive nature of this conference return.
Four teams are undoubtedly the strongest going into next season, and one that is the most competitive.
The Florida Panthers are a historically physical team. They are difficult to play against because they are not afraid to play a gritty game. In addition, this offseason, the Panthers have added multiple players that elevate their physical presence.
In the 2025-2026 NHL season, the Florida Panthers finished second in the league in hits per team with 2,024. Within this statistic, the Panthers had seven players finish the season with over 100 hits, and 11 players who averaged more than one hit per game. The Panthers accomplished this without their captain, Aleksander Barkov, or forward Matthew Tkachuk, who both averaged over a hit per game in the 2024-2025 season.
