Joey McGuire is optimistic the Texas Tech football team will have more weapons on the field of Galaxy Stadium for the Red Raiders' showdown against Houston.
Safety Brenden Jordan has wrapped his two-game suspension for a violation of team rules and will return to action on Friday night. As for a pair of injured starters, that's up to how the short week of preparation goes.

Rams cornerback Jaylen Watson was only blamed for one touchdown pass surrendered in his last two seasons with the Chiefs, but L.A.'s $51 million investment has already allowed twice that many in 2026. Although "blame" on touchdown passes can be difficult to ascertain, especially if it's simply because Watson was the closest defender in the area, this is not the start that the Rams envisioned for him when they overhauled their secondary in the offseason.
In total, Watson was blamed for allowing three catches on five targets, resulting in 53 yards and two touchdowns.
On the first touchdown, Watson is covering Mike Evans on the bottom of the screen and then has to run all the way down the field to try and cover Demarcus Robinson as he has sprinted past and away from safety Kam Kinchens. This is where one touchdown and the majority of the yards against Watson come from.

After nearly two decades of head coach Mike Tomlin, the Pittsburgh Steelers are starting over with new head coach Mike McCarthy, a whole new system and several new starters. Optimism is high and fans feel like there's been a new energy with the team and so let's offer up our own bold predictions for the upcoming season.
We aren't ready to name the two players but between the team's three big edge defenders and defensive linemen Cam Heyward and Derrick Harmon, we predict the Steelers to get at least two players with 10+ sacks.

Auburn football hosts Southern Miss on Saturday for its 2026 home opener, with kickoff slated for 6:45 p.m. CT on SEC Network.

The Los Angeles Clippers are still reeling in the aftermath of a cap circumvention scandal. For their part in helping Kawhi Leonard secure millions in off-the-court, "no-show" endorsement deals, the franchise had to give up five first-round picks and $30 million, culminating in one of the most severe penalties in NBA history.
Through it all, Kawhi escaped the scandal relatively unscathed. Besides a $700K fine, he didn't face any major consequences, and even his trade to the Toronto Raptors remains completely untouched. And yet, even now, the Clippers have yet to finalize the trade, leading some executives to suspect they are considering some sort of revenge against Leonard for how he's turned his back on the team.
"The Raptors, I'm told, are eager to consummate the trade after initially placing it on hold July 9 (to guard against a Leonard suspension or the outright voiding of his contract) and still firmly believe that the deal will happen as agreed upon and intended. Ditto for Leonard and his camp," wrote NBA insider Marc Stein. "Yet the delay has naturally led some league observers to wonder aloud whether the Clippers are holding off — or considering something even more drastic — to spite Leonard for so readily accepting the league's punishment rather than invoking his right to pursue an appeal. Any formal appeal within the NBA's auspices in such matters, remember, must be initiated by the player in question rather than the team according to league by-laws."
The Clippers have given up everything for Kawhi, and they set themselves back 10 years just to make him happy. From his very arrival, Kawhi was making outlandish requests and even forced the Clippers to give up five first-round picks (along with future MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander) in a deal for Paul George. By the end, the total cost of Leonard's services amounts to 10 first-round picks (not counting SGA), and it was all for a team that never made the Finals.
So when the Clippers were caught holding the bag in the cap circumvention scandal, they naturally expected some level of cooperation from Leonard, someone they moved heaven and earth to appease. Instead, he settled with the NBA right away, avoiding more severe penalties while stripping the Clippers of any power to fight back.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi may have been among the early contributors for East Zone in the Duleep Trophy final, but it was captain Ishan Kishan who eventually stole the show with a breathtaking double century against South Zone at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Sooryavanshi opened the innings for East Zone and made a brisk 44 off 37 deliveries. During the match, former India cricketer and commentator Vivek Razdan used Kishan's remarkable innings to offer some advice to the teenage batter.
"Sooryavanshi sahab, now you have to learn from players like Ishan Kishan. Once you are set, you have to learn how to play a long innings," Razdan said on commentary.
The message came as Kishan continued to pile on the runs and turn the final into a one-sided contest.
Resuming on 385/4, East Zone's batters showed little sign of slowing down. South Zone turned to the new ball in search of wickets, but Mohammad Siraj and MD Nidheesh struggled to make an impact.
Kishan immediately put pressure on the bowlers, collecting consecutive boundaries against Siraj before taking on Nidheesh. ***** ar Kushagra also joined the ***** ault as South Zone rotated between pace and spin.
Kushagra eventually completed his sixth first-class century, scoring 101 from 132 ***** with eight fours and five sixes. His dismissal shortly before lunch finally gave South Zone a breakthrough.
Kishan, meanwhile, remained in complete control.
The East Zone captain repeatedly found gaps in the field and punished anything loose. Even when South Zone introduced part-timers Devdutt Padikkal and Shaikh Rasheed, the flow of runs did not stop.
Kishan brought up his double century from 270 ***** and continued attacking thereafter. He raced beyond 250 before fatigue briefly forced him to retire from the field.
East Zone continued marching towards a massive total, eventually crossing 600 and then 700. When Mohammed Shami was dismissed for a quick 28, Kishan returned to the crease with the possibility of reaching an extraordinary triple century.
Kishan's pursuit of 300 ultimately came to an end when he was caught near the long-on boundary. The left-hander departed for a monumental 270 from 334 ***** , having smashed 30 fours and seven sixes.
His innings was the eighth-highest individual score in Duleep Trophy history and formed the backbone of East Zone's mammoth 708 all out.
Razdan had earlier highlighted not just the quality of Kishan's batting but also the physical demands of staying at the crease for such an extended period.
"Every person who is present here at this time stood up and applauded this innings. Because this is not just technique, this is not just temperament, this is also match fitness. To stay out there for so long in such heat and play an innings like this. What an innings by Ishan Kishan."

Rutgers football is listed as 3.5-point underdogs in next week's matchup vs Boston College, according to FanDuel, after suffering an embarrassing 37-21 loss to UMass last week. This one is going to be one of the more impossible opponent previews you'll see, as the ECU Pirates have nearly turned over their entire team after a nice 9-4 record last year under coach Blake Harrell. Guys like running back London Montgomery and safety Ja'Marley Riddle (two of their top players last year) have made the jump up to join the Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs, and even starting QB Katin Houser transferred to Illinois. Ultimately, the Pirates lost 24 players to the transfer portal, and the best I can tell, wide receiver Brock Spalding and linebacker DJ Johnson Jr. are the only returning starters on the team.
Not only was there major roster turnover for the Pirates, but they also lost both of their coordinators. Offensive coordinator John David Baker, who's taken a promotion up to be the OC for Ole Miss, was replaced with North Texas OC Jordan Davis. Davis was the OC behind the Mean Green's nation-leading 44.8 points per game offense in 2026. It was an up tempo, air raid-like offense and there's a lot of reason for ECU fans to be excited – however, Davis comes with a big caveat: he was the OC in name only, as UNT's head coach Eric Morris was actually the playcaller.
Eric Morris runs many of the same concepts he learned from being a player. He has expanded the run game using a lot more gap runs. WSU and MSST under Leach used mostly inside and outside zones with some DART (backside tackle pulls and leads) to change things up.
How much will Davis's iteration of this offense at ECU look like the Morris offense at UNT? We'll just have to see, so this will be an experience for everyone.

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo pleaded no contest Tuesday to operating while intoxicated in connection with his July arrest in Milwaukee, according to WISN 12.
Romo, 46, will have his driver's license revoked for six months and must pay a $784 fine. He also must complete an alcohol ***** sment program and install an ignition interlock device on any vehicle he owns.
Milwaukee County sheriff's deputies arrested Romo, a Wisconsin native, on July 23 after a traffic stop.
According to a search warrant obtained by WISN 12, a deputy reported smelling a "strong odor of an alcoholic beverage" on Romo's breath. Body-camera footage showed Romo telling the deputy he had not consumed any alcohol.

This doesn't feel like any kind of gamesmanship or subterfuge -- it's the Badgers' sports info department that made the choice, not the coaches. Not to mention that Notre Dame should already have a sense of Wisconsin's depth chart via scouting. In-game adjustments should cover any unexpected developments that surprise the Irish - in other words, if Notre Dame expects a certain player to be the starting running back and Wisconsin switches it up, Notre Dame should be able to adjust quickly. NASHVILLE - Jackson State football defensive back Kam Sallis exited the Tigers' season opener vs Tennessee State in the second quarter Aug. 29.
Sallis stayed down after helping break up a pass at JSU's 1-yard line. He went to the sidelines and medical staff helped him take off his pads. After sitting on the sidelines for a few minutes, Sallis went back to the locker room with about six minutes left in the second quarter.
Jackson State trailed Tennessee State 14-7 when Sallis went back to the locker room. He had five tackles at the time of his exit.
Sallis is one of JSU's top defensive players. He was voted SWAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year for 2026. He made the All-SWAC second team in 2025.
This is Sallis' second season with JSU since transferring from Kansas State. In 2025, he had 53 tackles, two interceptions and two forced fumbles.

NEW DELHI: South Africa all-rounder Marizanne Kapp has strongly criticised Cricket Australia's decision to offer transgender cricketer Anaya Bangar a pathway back into competitive women's cricket, calling the development "absolutely ridiculous" and saying it "should not be allowed".
Kapp's reaction came after Australian media reported that Cricket Australia (CA) had cleared Anaya, the daughter of former India cricketer and coach Sanjay Bangar, to return to competitive cricket under its Inclusion of Transgender and Gender Diverse Players in Elite Cricket Policy. The decision has since become a major talking point in the cricketing world.
Sharing a report on her Instagram, Kapp wrote: "Absolutely ridiculous. This should not be allowed."
Anaya underwent gender-affirming surgery in March this year and has now been given a pathway towards elite women's cricket in Australia. Under CA's decision, she can play community cricket in any state or territory of Australia until March 2027.
From March 2027, Anaya can become eligible for elite-level women's cricket if she continues to meet the policy requirements, including the stipulated testosterone threshold.
An expert panel comprising CA's Head of Integrity Jacqui Partridge, Integrity Partner and Legal representative Emily Yates, Head of Scheduling, Operations and Domestic Cricket Peter Roach, Anti-Doping Medical Officer Dr Peter Harcourt and Team Doctor Dr Pip Inge considered Anaya's case before confirming the pathway.
"Under Cricket Australia's Policy, a player seeking to participate in the female category of Elite Cricket must establish that their serum testosterone concentration has been below 10 nmol/L continuously for a period of no less than 12 months," CA said in an email to Anaya.
The governing body added that, based on the medical information submitted, the requirement would be satisfied in March 2027. Her eligibility from that point will remain conditional on a blood test confirming that her testosterone level remains below 10 nmol/L and that she continues to meet the policy's requirements.
Anaya said the process was neither "automatic or informal" and that CA had considered her medical and surgical history, hormone and testosterone levels, cricketing background, playing footage and scientific and athletic performance work conducted with Manchester Metropolitan University's Institute of Sport.
She also revealed that her most recent blood test in July recorded total testosterone at 0.6 nanomoles, which she said was within the female reference range reported by the laboratory.
For Anaya, however, the CA decision represents an opportunity rather than a guarantee of a place in elite cricket.
"I want to make another point very clearly. Eligibility is not selection. Cricket Australia has given me a pathway, which does not mean that I have been given a place in a team. I still have to train, compete, perform and earn that opportunity," she said.

As the WNBA season winds down, Unrivaled will return in the coming months riding a wave of optimism after another successful round of fundraising.
The 3x3 women's basketball league, founded by former UConn stars Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, announced Wednesday that a Series C fundraising round increased the organization's value to $650 million - Unrivaled was valued at just $340 million in 2025.
UConn coach Geno Auriemma was among the investors in the latest $100 million round, which also included NBA stars Carmelo Anthony and Trae Young, along with women's soccer icon Alex Morgan and actor Ashton Kutcher.
"We're partnering with investors who share our vision to create lasting value and greater opportunity for the best players in the world, while continuing to elevate the game for fans," co-founder and CEO Alex Bazzell, who is also Collier's husband, said in a statement Wednesday.
About 30% of this value, or around $200 million, is controlled by Unrivaled players - the league claims that 97% of the league's roster, and all 36 of the league's founding players, own equity, according to Front Office Sports. Former UConn star Paige Bueckers signed a three-year contract with Unrivaled in April 2025, which included an undisclosed share of equity in the league.

Murphy, the two-time defending National League Manager of the Year, benched Pratt after he failed to get a bunt down and didn't run hard out of the batter's box on a bloop single during a 3-2 loss to the New York Mets in 10 innings.
"I've got to be better," Pratt said. "It's not winning baseball. I didn't help the team win and it won't happen again, that's for sure."
Batting ninth, Pratt was asked to bunt after Garrett Mitchell and Joey Ortiz opened the third with singles against Mets starter Zac Thornton. Pratt fouled off Thornton's first pitch and then pulled back his bat on the second one, a fastball right down the middle.

Match of the Day's Danny Murphy says Aston Villa "completely capitulated" after conceding the first goal to Brighton on Sunday.
The former Premier League midfielder credited the Seagulls for their dominating display, but said Unai Emery's side were too negative and invited the pressure on themselves.

There was a bit of uncertainty going into last season for Woodrow Wilson's perennially contending volleyball team. The Flying Eagles were going to have to traverse the season with the loss of five seniors who not only started, but were among the best to ever play the sport at the Beckley school.
It took some work, but the new stars all meshed and took the Flying Eagles to their sixth consecutive state tournament appearance.
Now, the team is in somewhat of a similar situation in having to replace four talented seniors in all-staters Anya Hasan (hitter/blocker) and Londen Baker (libero/defensive specialist), DS Zoie Vance and setter Makayla Adkins.
"They were all in key spots," coach Bre Rhodes said. "All four of them had a role on the team. To lose players like that, you take a big hit."
Rhodes is carrying nine players on the varsity roster to start the season, but she had plenty of depth — much of it unexpected — from which to choose.

The Atlanta Falcons wrapped up their second joint practice with the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday and will have Friday off before returning for Saturday's preseason matchup at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Both teams seem to have gotten through another day without any major injuries, but the Falcons can't feel great about how their offense performed this week in practice.
In today's Falcons Wire Recap, Arthur Blanks sells a 10 percent ownership stake in the franchise, Michael Penix Jr. prepares to meet with his doctor, Matt Ryan takes the field at his old stomping grounds, and we catch up on the latest news from Atlanta's second joint practice with the Colts.
The Falcons returned for another day of practice against the Colts, and things got a little chippy. While there were no major fights, a minor scrum broke out between Atlanta's defense and Indy's offense during the red-zone period. Tua Tagovailoa made some nice throws in these red-zone drills, but the Falcons first-team offense continued to sputter out around midfield in 11-on-11 drills.
And while Drake London caught his share of passes, Atlanta's offensive line had some issues slowing down the Colts' blitzes, which led to plays like this fourth-down stop below.

Lille OSC have made an approach for Burnley forward Zian Flemming (28), as per a report from RMC Sport. The Ligue 1 club are looking to strengthen their attacking options before the closure of the transfer window.
Last season in 29 Premier League appearances, Flemming scored 11 goals, whilst, following the Clarets' relegation to the EFL Championship, he has scored three goals in just two games. It has been a strong start for the Dutchman, who came through the ranks at Ajax. However, it is not guaranteed that he will see out the season at Turf Moor.
A versatile forward, he could fit the bill for LOSC, who need reinforcements in this sector, especially given their lack of depth in the centre-forward position ahead of a UEFA Champions League campaign. Les Dogues have approached Burnley with the view to make a move for the Dutchman before the closure of the transfer window.

Santiago Sandoval could not have asked for a better return to Chivas' first-team setup. After an impressive run with the Mexico U-20 National Team at the CONCACAF U-20 Championship, the Rojiblanco academy product returned to the squad with the same confidence, talent and ability to make a difference that have made him one of Guadalajara's most promising young players.
Most importantly, his return has gone beyond simply making a good impression. In his last 2 appearances, Sandoval has directly contributed to Chivas' victories, proving that he is a player capable of changing the course of a match even when coming off the bench.
His return came in the final match of the Leagues Cup against Seattle Sounders. He came on as a substitute and, with only a few minutes on the pitch, found himself inside the box to connect with a header and score the goal that ultimately proved decisive in Chivas' victory.
But if that performance was the first glimpse of his impact after returning from the U-20 Championship, what happened against Santos Laguna confirmed that it was no coincidence.
