Maiava is back for his fourth season of college football, his third with the Trojans. He's already completed 48-of-54 pass attempts for 635 yards and five touchdowns. He's only been sacked once this season and has yet to throw an interception.
Lunch Winfield saw the most time at quarterback for Louisiana in the blowout win over the Lamar Cardinals last week. Winfield completed 16 of 22 passes for 189 yards and two interceptions. He also contributed to the rushing attack with 84 yards and a touchdown. Darrell Smith also rushed for 84 yards and produced two touchdowns.

You've got to hand it to Miami: The Hurricanes' social media team nailed this post on X (formerly Twitter) after Florida State dealt with a power outage at Doak Campbell Stadium on Monday night that delayed the Seminoles' contest against SMU.
The game eventually started at 9:15 p.m. ET with some limits that included no PA announcer and no use of the scoreboard.
Miami's admins decided to have some fun with it with a simple tweet: "The lights are ON at our house," they wrote. "See YOU at Hard Rock [Stadium] on Thursday."

There won't be a swarm of influencers at Wimbledon next summer after how things have gone so far at the US Open.
Wimbledon does not plan to allow an influx of influencers at the Grand Slam next summer, according to The Press ***** ociation. Security will confiscate items, like ring lights, that could be used to disrupt matches, and Wimbledon will not have any accreditation category for influencers or content creators.
That is in stark contrast to the US Open this fall, which has seen plenty of influencers and other content creators throughout the tournament. That's caused multiple issues already, too.
While the US Open has traditionally had the rowdiest crowd among the four Grand Slams, the influencer debate has taken off throughout the tournament. Roughly 100 influencers and content creators were credentialed as media this year, nearly twice as many from 2025. A pair of influencers had their credentials revoked, too.
People have been creating content at the tournament during matches, including staging photoshoots and bringing in lighting. Naomi Osaka's first-round match even had to be paused.

MANHATTAN — Kansas State football couldn't have asked for a better start to the Collin Klein era. Now, it's on to more challenging opponents, with Washington State visiting Bill Snyder Family Stadium next week.
The Wildcats won 71-3 against Nicholls in Manhattan on Saturday, Sept. 5.
It's hard to take away too much when Nicholls (1-1) was as bad as advertised. Still, there were some notables from K-State (1-0) taking care of business.
Oklahoma State transfer Rodney Fields was the first running back on the field instead of Joe Jackson. He looked like the best running back on Saturday night.
Fields finished the game with 14 carries for 101 yards and a touchdown. His best run came on a 26-yard touchdown in which he accelerated once he got to the edge of the Colonels' defense.

While it always seemed unrealistic, the possibility of Ben Simmons coming back to Philly is over for now.
The former Philadelphia 76ers star guard is back in the NBA after agreeing to a contract with the Sacramento Kings on Sept. 4.
The three-time All-Star inked a one-year, $3.5 million deal with the Kings for the upcoming 2026-2027 NBA season.
Simmons, who has been out of the league after playing in only 18 games during the 2024-2025 season, said in an interview with Men's Health in June that he planned for get back into NBA shape while he worked out in Miami.
He said that included "two and a half to three hours of lifting and body work, as well as hour-and-a-half sessions on the court, with a day or two off every week. He had hoped to be back to full strength by his 30th birthday, July 20," Men's Health reported.

Sunderland have completed the signing of 18-year-old striker Juan Riquelme Angulo Caicedo from Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle.
The highly-rated forward has signed a long-term contract at the Stadium of Light after attracting interest from several clubs across Europe.
Standing at 6ft 4in, Angulo made his professional debut for Independiente del Valle in March 2026 and immediately made an impact, scoring in a 3-1 victory over Mushuc Rung.
Later that month, the teenager received his first call-up to the Ecuador senior squad despite having only just broken into professional football.
Angulo leaves Independiente del Valle after scoring six goals in 15 league appearances this season, averaging a goal every 115 minutes.

Swansea head coach Vitor Matos is "really pleased" with their unbeaten start to the Championship season, but insisted they still have small improvements to make.
Goals from Joseph Opoku, Eom Ji-sung and Ronald gave Swansea a 3-0 win at Derby, taking Matos' charges to seven points from three games - their best start to a season since 2020-21.
The Swans won just seven of their 23 away Championship fixtures last season, but have taken six points from six at the start of this campaign.
Matos, into his second campaign in charge of Swansea, is pleased with their improved record on the road, and feels his players are enjoying themselves.
"There is still a lot to play [this season], but we are really pleased that we did a good job for our fans who were here," said Matos.

MONACO (AP) — Gianni Infantino, the increasingly embattled FIFA president, was everywhere in the conversations as European soccer leaders gathered this week in Monaco for the Champions League draw.
UEFA, the European soccer confederation, is spearheading the backlash against Infantino over his failed World Cup sell-off plan that created a deep rift in the sport one month ago.
Many of its member federations have withdrawn their support for the FIFA leader, who is up for re-election in March 2027, and some have called for his resignation.

Since training camp got underway, the San Francisco 49ers have had a rough go of things. Injuries have kept popping up on the roster, delaying their momentum for the start of the season. But now, they've also been hit with a huge scandal.
Their longtime owner, Jed York, was charged and subsequently arrested in East Palestine, Ohio, earlier this week. As bodycam footage of the arrest made its way online, fans were stunned by how it all played out.
The incident came to light when York was charged with misdemeanor counts of engaging in prostitution and possessing criminal tools. However, as part of the plea agreement, the former was reduced to disorderly conduct.
The team told the media, "As this is a legal matter, which has been resolved, we will not be providing any further comment at this time," even as the NFL is reviewing the matter.
But TMZ, of course, finally received footage of York's arrest. As the clip went viral online, NFL reporters were left understandably stunned.

MUNCIE — The city of Muncie needed a high school football game more than it ever has.
On Friday, Aug. 21, the Muncie Central Bearcats and Delta Eagles answered the call by treating their fans to an instant classic — a 23-22 victory by the Bearcats that came down to the final second, literally.
With both communities still reeling from the calamitous flooding that swept through the area in recent weeks, the two teams fought their tails off to put a brilliant rivalry game together and give everyone who saw it a sense of unity in times of hardship.
"Everybody's going through stuff right now, but we had however long this game was to just be entrenched in it and go play this football game," Muncie Central coach Kyle Buresh said. "At the end of the day, that was a fun one that we all put on a show for our community tonight. Both teams did, really proud of the way both teams handled themselves, competed extremely hard but competed with first class."
Central clinched its victory in the very last second of the game. The Bearcats trailed 22-16 with 23 seconds left in the game and used their final timeout before a third-and-goal play. Junior quarterback Mason Ferguson was sacked on third down, forcing him and his teammates to hurry to the line of scrimmage and try to get one last snap off.

Caitlin Clark has been dominating over the second half of the season. In her most recent outing, a 95-91 overtime win over Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream, Clark scored 26 points and added 9 ****** ists. The Fever star is the only player in the league in the top three in both points and ****** ists per game, and former ESPN sportscaster Linda Cohn recently gave her unapologetic opinions on Caitlin Clark's MVP status.
Clark, despite being a clear candidate for the award, has been largely left out of the discussion, and Cohn makes it very apparent that the third-year star would have her vote.
"Take Caitlin Clark off the Indiana Fever, and what are they?" Cohn asked on her self-titled YouTube show.
"I'm not voting for Caitlin Clark because she's the biggest star in women's basketball, no. I'm not voting for her because she sells tickets," Cohn continued. ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Pinch-hitter Jonny DeLuca put the Rays in front with a two-run single in the seventh inning, and AL-best Tampa Bay rallied for a 7-6 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night to avoid a four-game sweep.
Yandy Díaz, Ryan Vilade and Jorge Mateo homered for Tampa Bay. Mateo's two-run shot with two out in the fourth was his first for the Rays and gave them a 4-3 lead.

The Indiana Fever and Atlanta Dream played in one epic matchup on Sunday, with Caitlin Clark's squad emerging with a 95-91 victory in overtime. Despite some misses at the end of regulation, Angel Reese finished with 15 points, 14 rebounds and six dimes.
With the game tied at 81 and under 14 seconds to play, the Dream had a shot at the win. Reese grabbed an offensive board under the basket and attempted a putback that JUST missed, another Dream shot missed and the game headed to overtime. Reese put her hands up to her head, seemingly in disbelief.
And behind her, as cameras captured? You can see Clark walk by with a smile. That's destined to become a meme:
Clark finished with 26 points, nine ****** ists, three rebounds and five turnovers. She shot 9-of-20 from the floor.

These rules were introduced back then because of Kevin Durant 's move to the Golden State Warriors , to prevent teams from having too many players of that caliber. But currently, it's not working out as intended. We're a team that has built up players from scratch, who then have to be traded again because of the second apron. That's a shame. It was the same issue with my contract. It's not like the team doesn't want to pay you. But when you're in the second apron, it's no longer just a financial question; you're also severely restricted in trades. That makes it really difficult for a team, and I think ultimately it hasn't really helped the players either.

Johnson Wagner has implored Brian Harman to go back to his old putter after seeing the 2023 Open Championship winner test more clubs than ever before this season.
Harman went into the FedEx St. Jude Championship desperately needing a brilliant week to stand any chance of qualifying for the BMW Championship.
He goes into the final round at TPC Southwind in a tie for sixth, six shots adrift of Scottie Scheffler.
Crucially, Harman is now projected to end the week in 51st place in the FedEx Cup standings. Not only would that end his playoff run at the first hurdle, but it would also leave the left-hander with work to do to make it into all of the signature events in 2027.
It is a surprise to see Brian Harman endure such an underwhelming year given that he made it all the way to East Lake last season.

Saturday's top-of-the-table clash in Nashville has been riveting so far. Nashville and Inter Miami came into the night separated by just two points at the top of the Supporters Shield standings.
And as it stands in the second-half, they are on pace to extend that lead to five after putting Leo Messi and his mates to the sword in front of a sold-out crowd.
But the best moment of the night so far certainly came just shy of the hour-mark when Nashville striker Sam Surridge put his side ahead with a stunning back-heel flick to beat Rocco Ríos Novo.
The Miami players were incensed, believing Messi had been fouled at the other end of the pitch before the goal, but the goal did stand after a check by the referee.
