Quenton Nelson knows how hard it is to block Jeffery Simmons. When Nelson was a guard for the Colts and Simmons was a defensive tackle for the **** ans, the two played against each other 13 times. And when Nelson got traded to the Seahawks on Tuesday, he thought he was going to get a break from facing Simmons.
That didn't happen. Shortly after Nelson got traded to the Seahawks, Simmons got traded to the Bears. Who play the Seahawks on Monday night, in the first game for both players on their new teams.
Nelson said he considers Simmons one of the best opponents he's faced, and he's ready for a big challenge when the Bears visit Seattle on Monday night.
"He's an amazing football player and competitor. I was like, Man, can't get away from this guy. It'll be another battle against him this week," Nelson said.
Nelson vs. Simmons will be the most-watched offensive lineman vs. defensive lineman battle of this NFL season, as two All-Pros go at it again, now on new teams with Super Bowl aspirations.

The New York Yankees entered the offseason facing familiar questions about their offensive identity after another frustrating end to their season. Despite the talent in their lineup, the Yankees were swept by the division rival Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Division Series, leaving the franchise to confront concerns about its execution, approach and ability to deliver when the stakes are highest.
The team's reliance on superstar slugger Aaron Judge was laid bare, as the offense struggled to produce while he was sidelined by an injury. And its failure to execute fundamental defensive and baserunning plays has come under fire as well, particularly after the Rays and World Series champion Milwaukee Brewers succeeded with such a different style.
Former Yankees manager Joe Girardi articulated many of the criticisms surrounding the Yankees shortly after their season ended.
"Joe Girardi isn't blaming Aaron Boone for the Yankees' shortcomings, but believes a deeper-rooted culture issue might have contributed to the team being swept in the ALDS," Mark Suleymanov wrote for the New York Post. "Girardi cited Austin Wells' baserunning blunder in Game 1 and Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s disastrous throw in an error-filled Game 2 as examples of the team's fundamental failures — and the concerning response to those mistakes."
And with the Yankees under fire for a power-heavy offense and poor fundamentals, one of their most intriguing infield prospects has spoken out about the kind of change he'd like to see in the sport.

Boxing's biggest star, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, will look to become a two-time super middleweight champion when he challenges Christian Mbilli for the WBC ****** le on Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
It has been over a year since Alvarez lost his undisputed crown courtesy of a tremendous performance from Terence Crawford — and that means it has been a year since Alvarez last held a world ****** le.
For a fighter who was champion for seven straight years — from 2018-25 — not having a world ****** le is an unnatural feeling for the Mexican, but it has been Alvarez's reality since being outclassed by Crawford more than 13 months ago.
Hours before Crawford's win over Canelo, Lester Martinez held Mbilli to a draw on the undercard. Mbilli, the WBC interim champion, was upgraded to full champion shortly after and has now landed the golden ticket as it were — an opportunity to upset the sport's commercial king.
Canelo Alvarez wants to prove he has plenty left.

The Charlotte Hornets announced on Thursday that forward Kon Knueppel has been ****** igned to the team's G League affiliate in Greensboro, North Carolina for Thursday's practice.
Though Knueppel is still listed as out for Friday's matchup at the Washington Wizards, being ****** igned to practice with the Greensboro Storm is an encouraging sign that the second-year sharpshooter is nearing a return after missing the Hornets' first five games of the season with a strained left hamstring.
Friday's game is the first of a back-to-back for Charlotte, who hosts the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday. So perhaps the team is waiting to play him at home or maybe his season debut will be Monday versus the Detroit Pistons.
Knueppel, 21, suffered the injury just over a month ago during what the Hornets termed "offseason on-court activity." This occurred shortly before NBA teams reported for training camp, which Knueppel missed due to the hamstring strain along with the entire preseason.
Last season, Knueppel finished second in NBA Rookie of the Year balloting after challenging 2025 No. 1 overall pick and eventual winner Cooper Flagg by averaging 18.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.4 ****** ists. Selected No. 4 overall out of Duke in the 2025 NBA Draft, he led the league by making 273 3-pointers, shooting 43% on 673 attempts.

Shortly after England's disappointing defeat by Argentina at this summer's World Cup, boss Thomas Tuchel offered his view on why the Three Lions are struggling to win major tournaments.
"I think ball possession plays a crucial role," he said.
"It's maybe not in our DNA like it is in the Spanish DNA or Argentinian or Brazilian DNA to take the ball, control the game and the ball, which is also a big problem."
DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid), in scientific terms, usually refers to the master blueprint for life - the hereditary material in humans and almost all other organisms.
In football, the DNA of a team starts out at grassroots level, where young players are shaped and developed.

Joe Manganiello says Sofía Vergara refused to hug him when he pleaded for affection during his long health battle. According to PEOPLE's Oct. 7 report, he writes in his memoir that their marriage had "become devoid of any emotionality whatsoever."
The 49-year-old True Blood actor discusses that period in Bloodlines, his memoir arriving Oct. 13 from Avid Reader Press/Simon & Schuster.
Manganiello and Vergara married in November 2015, announced their separation in July 2023 and finalized their divorce in April 2024.
Vergara had not addressed the memoir allegations when Us Weekly published its Oct. 7 report. The outlet said it had contacted her for comment.
Manganiello says his symptoms began shortly after the wedding. Abdominal pain sometimes left him unable to walk, while digestive ulcers, fevers, blistering rashes, bleeding and exhaustion became recurring problems.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — A Texas man who fatally shot a convenience store clerk was put to death Wednesday evening, becoming the 30th person executed in the U.S. this year and the first since Tennessee's failed attempt to administer a lethal injection to Christa Pike a week ago.
Jamaal Howard, 46, was **** ounced dead at 8:03 p.m. after receiving a fatal dose of pentobarbital at the state prison in Huntsville. He was convicted of killing of Vickie Swartout, 42, in a 2000 store robbery caught on surveillance video.
Asked by the warden if he had a final statement, Howard apologized profusely to some members of his victim's family, who watched through a window just feet from the death chamber.
"I wish that you accept my apology and I wish for your forgiveness," he said, shortly before the injection got underway. "I'm sorry for what happened. I wish you can learn to forgive me one of these days."
He also thanked his friends and family and said he loved them, adding he was "in a good state of mind to find peace and the Lord, so I thank y'all." He concluded with: "Hey, enjoy life, and peace to y'all."

Christa Pike is feeling "angry and confused" after waking up in the hospital in the wake of a failed execution attempt that left her with severe physical health challenges that put her on a "long road to recovery," her attorneys said on Wednesday.
Pike had been unconscious and in critical condition in the days after two doses of pentobarbital failed to end her life on Sept. 30, they said.
"On Monday night, it was our understanding that Christa was brain-dead and that life support would be removed the next day," Randy Spivey, a member of her legal team, said during a press conference Wednesday afternoon. "But on Tuesday, to the shock of everyone … Christa woke up and began talking."
Spivey said the effects of the pentobarbital have caused her to develop a blood clot, pneumonia and left her arms and hands "tremendously swollen," to the point where she's not currently able to use them. He added that Pike is still dealing with significant "cognitive confusion," but is "very aware" that the state had tried and failed to end her life.
The press conference came shortly after a hearing in which a judge granted Pike's attorneys' request to order the state to preserve all evidence connected to the execution, including medical equipment, communications related to the decision to call off the procedure or related to her emergency care and "anything that was in the actual room." The judge also ordered that any "barriers" that may prevent Pike from communicating with her attorneys while she's in the hospital be removed.

Princess Diana's friend has slammed Charles Spencer's book, "Swan Song: Diana, My Sister," dedicated to his late sister. For those unversed, Spencer penned a memoir chronicling Princess Diana's experience being married to King Charles, dealing with intense media scrutiny and her tragic passing. Ever since the book was released on September 22, it has been making headlines.
Princess Diana's friend berated Charles Spencer and branded him as "deeply disloyal" for writing a book about his late sister. In a 1998 TV special with Sally Magnusson, Spencer had declared that he would never profit off his sister's death and thought it was "low."
Royal commentator Ingrid Seward was once a good acquaintance of Diana and had spent time with her shortly before her tragic death in 1997. Seward told The Royal Observer's Palace Unfiltered: "I think that Charles has been deeply disloyal, writing about his sister, putting himself up there, and then to attack the king was so unnecessary. I don't know if what he's saying is accurate, but you know, memory does change over the years."
The Daily Mail published an excerpt, detailing an explosive phone call between Spencer and King Charles over Diana's funeral preparations. As per Spencer, Charles retorted, saying: "Rest **** ured, we will forget her soon enough."
Diana's brother said he was "stunned" by Charles' harsh words for the mother of his children. Additionally, he also claimed the King sounded "giddily elated, like a lottery winner," just after her death.

General Hospital alum Chris McKenna just revealed he needs emergency jaw surgery this week.
The former Jack recently shared a health update on X, posting an X-ray of his jaw and writing, "I had a broken crown fixed last month and they discovered a spot on my x-ray."
He continued, explaining what this means for his mouth: "Turns out I need emergency surgery in the morning to remove a cyst that has eaten away at my jawbone and have a bone graft. Good thing I broke that tooth! This is gonna hurt but lucky we caught it."
While this certainly isn't something McKenna wanted to hear, the former soap star is making the best of the scary situation. Shortly after his announcement, he posted, "The good news is I'm gonna be on pain meds for weeks and my tweets might be hilarious."

An Oct. 2 emergency court filing seeks to preserve all evidence related to Tennessee's failed execution of Christa Pike, arguing the state botched the lethal injection procedure.
A judge was considering the request shortly after it was filed. While an unsigned document for the hearing was filed in the court system, no date or time was immediately listed.
Pike was set to be executed by the Tennessee Department of Correction on Sept. 30, but survived two doses of pentobarbital. The document, filed in Davidson County Chancery Court on Oct. 2, revealed more details about Pike's condition. It said she is intubated, on a ventilator and unconscious, and that both her arms were swollen, burned and blistered. As of the night of Oct. 1, Pike was still in critical condition at a Nashville-area hospital, the motion said.
"Hospital staff are working to save Ms. Pike's life and to clear the pentobarbital from her system," the Oct. 2 motion stated.

JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. — Vice President JD Vance acknowledged Thursday that Republicans face an “uphill climb” in next month’s midterm elections — and that the results may be a data point he reviews as he decides whether to run for president in 2028.
“Historically there’s always a bit of an uphill climb, and I think you definitely sense that,” Vance said in an interview with NBC News. “I also think you can sense a sense of cautious optimism, in the sense that, you know, people feel like the numbers are sort of moving, maybe in our direction.”
He added: “Politically, there’s just a recognition that it’s always going to be hard to win a midterm when you have the White House, the Senate and the House.”
Vance spoke aboard Air Force Two shortly after it landed on a return trip from Lakeland, Florida, where he campaigned for Sen. Ashley Moody and Rep. Byron Donalds, the Republican nominee for governor. It was his latest headlining gig at a rally meant to boost support for the party’s candidates in what is expected to be a challenging year for the GOP.
Aside from the historical trends Vance mentioned, polls have shown President Donald Trump and the war in Iran highly unpopular among voters. A related rise in gas prices has added to a cascade of affordability concerns. And Americans are growing more skeptical of artificial intelligence and the large, power-hungry data centers being built to accommodate the technology. All of those issues could factor into voters’ choices in this fall’s key races for the House, the Senate and governor.

This week, we're turning the lens back to the early 2000s — when pop culture icons defined a generation — tracing the journeys of some beloved stars who've largely stepped back from the Hollywood glare. From dramatic career pivots and meaningful personal challenges to unexpected comebacks, here's a look at the stories behind the faces you once couldn't escape on your screen.
MEGA
Once famed for her bubbly on-screen persona and stunning box-office success, Cameron Diaz stepped away from acting at the peak of her career to focus on her family and personal ventures, per The Hollywood Reporter. Always stylish, Diaz became just as celebrated for her off-screen life, including authoring two best-selling health books — The Body Book reached the No. 1 spot on the New York Times bestseller list shortly after its release in 2014, as reported by Audible.
MEGA
Amanda Bynes was a comedy sensation and one of the most beloved young actresses of her generation, starring in hit TV shows and films that defined youth culture. She first rose to prominence on Nickelodeon's All That at just 10 years old before landing her own series, The Amanda Show, per Today. Despite fame and awards, her later years brought struggles with mental health and a shift away from the spotlight, including a nearly decade-long conservatorship that was terminated by a judge in 2022, according to Salon. Bynes' journey has resonated with many, offering a reminder of resilience and the challenges of child stardom.

JERUSALEM (AP) — A dentist and other passengers wrestled with a violent copilot. A plumber seized the controls as the plane plunged towards the desert. And the captain, despite being stabbed, managed to open the ***** pit door — helping save all 182 people aboard the Israel-bound flight.
"Hollywood isn't creative enough to come up with stories like this!" said Mike Huckabee, the U.S. ambassador to Israel.
Although major questions remained unanswered on Thursday about the attacker and his motive, the story of ordinary passengers saving the FlyDubai flight from disaster has quickly become the stuff of legend.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warmly embraced plumber Yaniv Hayoun shortly after the passengers arrived in Tel Aviv late on Wednesday. He later posted a five-star review of Hayoun's professional services, calling him "a hero who has saved many lives."
"He can help you too — I highly recommend him!" Netanyahu added on X.

Tennessee's only female death row inmate has been taken to the hospital after surviving two doses of lethal injection drugs, her lawyers said.
Christa Pike, 50, was alive and snoring loudly after being given two doses of pentobarbital, her attorneys said.
Pike had been scheduled for execution 10 a.m. Wednesday for a killing she committed at age 18. She would have been the first woman executed in Tennessee in more than 200 years.
An appeals court stopped the lethal injection just an hour before it was to start. The U.S. Supreme Court overturned that stay shortly after.
Media witnesses said officials raised the curtains to the execution chamber at 7:27 p.m., showing Pike strapped to a gurney. "I'm going to leave this world the way I spent most of my life, and that is in love," she said in her "last" words.

The Federal Reserve delivered the week's main event on Wednesday, unanimously raising policy rates by 25 basis points. Gold's sharp initial drop appeared tied less to the hike itself than to projections showing elevated inflation expectations and another 25-basis-point increase before the end of 2026.

My husband, 59, and I, 55, are planning to retire over the next few years, and this is one of the biggest unknowns I'm struggling with. My mom had Alzheimer's disease and spent seven years in a really nice memory-care facility in a smaller town. It cost about $7,000 a month. Thankfully, my parents had purchased long-term-care insurance and had paid premiums for about 12 years.
My dad died shortly after being diagnosed with cancer, so his policy was never used. But my mom's policy ended up being worth its weight in gold. It essentially covered all of her care. By the time my mother died, the insurance company had paid out almost $600,000. We only paid about $100 a month for some extras. Needless to say, that experience has made me think.
The 10-year Treasury is having its worst run in over 100 years. Why investors are buying bonds anyway.
'I'm burned out': I'm constantly helping my cousin who is running out of money. Is it too much to expect his sister to help?
I've looked into long-term-care insurance, but the premiums are so incredibly expensive, and I worry about what they'll cost by the time it makes sense for me to seriously consider a policy. We're fortunate financially. After 35 years in the corporate grind, we'll have substantial retirement savings; we've always saved carefully; and we have no debt or mortgage.
