JERUSALEM (AP) — A dentist and other passengers wrestled with a violent copilot. A plumber seized the controls as the plane plunged towards the desert. And the captain, despite being stabbed, managed to open the ***** pit door — helping save all 182 people aboard the Israel-bound flight.
"Hollywood isn't creative enough to come up with stories like this!" said Mike Huckabee, the U.S. ambassador to Israel.
Although major questions remained unanswered on Thursday about the attacker and his motive, the story of ordinary passengers saving the FlyDubai flight from disaster has quickly become the stuff of legend.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warmly embraced plumber Yaniv Hayoun shortly after the passengers arrived in Tel Aviv late on Wednesday. He later posted a five-star review of Hayoun's professional services, calling him "a hero who has saved many lives."
"He can help you too — I highly recommend him!" Netanyahu added on X.

Recently, Danny Trejo hosted the TMZ Brunch Bus through Hollywood, hanging out with the tour's DJ and stopping at his own businesses, Trejo's Coffee & Donuts and Trejo's Tacos.
He was telling the passengers about taking a low-budget movie as a favor to a director who needed a name to get financing.
"Everything good that has happened to me has happened as a direct result of helping someone else," he told the crowd.
Then, a woman leaned over and told him that his sister, Marlene, was her mother.
"Are you kidding?" Trejo said.

Airport security employees checking boarding passes and IDs will no longer be allowed to sit down while working, the Transportation Security Administration confirmed Tuesday.
All chairs are being removed from the travel document checker podiums at the entrance to checkpoints nationwide, the union representing the screeners said. The American Federation of Government Employees TSA Council 100 said it found out about the decision from its members and called it a “disregard for workers rights and safety.”
TSA defended the move, saying the document checkers are the first to interact with the traveling public and requiring them to stand will create a better experience for passengers.
“This welcome change reinforces both our security posture and our commitment to hospitality by having these officers on their feet and alert,” the agency said in a statement. “All officers must meet fitness for duty requirements to be capable of performing their vital national security function while simultaneously creating a welcoming and professional environment for travelers.”
The move comes nearly two months after TSA Administrator David ******* mins was confirmed to lead the agency.

With aviation often a prohibitively costly industry for individual players without major backing, several smaller and charter carriers did not survive the spike in jet fuel prices that came at the start of 2026 following the U.S.-Israeli strike on Iran.
Major recent news in this ***** e includes the collapse of Spirit Airlines and the bankruptcy filing of Latvian flag carrier AirBaltic. Smaller carriers that shut down in 2026 include Mexican holiday airline Magnicharters, Finnish charter airline Jetflite, and most recently in September 2026, French charter carrier AirAiles.
And in Colorado, charter broker and indirect air carrier OneFlight International is reportedly pausing all flights for 30 days as a long string of financial problems catches up with it.
The company does not own any aircraft but functions as a broker, organizing chartered flights by private jet and jet card subscriptions.
A jet card is a membership in which customers book flight hours on a private plane at fixed rates. Along with fractional ownership, it is one of two main ways that passengers who fly private book their flights.

Investors choosing between Carnival (NYSE:CCL) and Uber Technologies (NYSE:UBER) must decide between a capital-intensive cruise leader and a high-growth technology platform. Both companies have shown resilience, but their financial structures offer very different risks.
Carnival operates as a global giant in the travel industry, managing a diverse fleet of ships that cater to millions of vacationers. Uber dominates the gig economy by connecting riders, diners, and shippers with service providers through its proprietary mobile applications and digital infrastructure.
As a major player among consumer discretionary stocks, Carnival operates a massive fleet of over 90 ships across eight distinct brands. In its latest annual report, the company highlighted a workforce of over 160,000 team members who served approximately 13.5 million guests throughout 2025. This scale allows the company to source passengers from major global markets, and notably, no single travel agency group accounted for more than 10% of total revenue during the year.
In FY 2025, revenue reached nearly $26.6 billion, representing a growth rate of roughly 6.4% compared to the prior year. This top-line expansion helped the company generate a net income of approximately $2.8 billion, a significant improvement over the $1.9 billion recorded in 2024. The net margin improved to 10.4%, indicating that the company is successfully converting a larger portion of its sales into actual profit.
Based on its November 2025 balance sheet, Carnival carries a debt-to-equity ratio of 2.3x, which is the total debt divided by shareholder equity. Its current ratio, a measure of current **** ets relative to current liabilities, is nearly 0.3x, suggesting tight short-term liquidity. However, the company generated close to $2.6 billion in free cash flow, which is cash from operations minus capital expenditures, providing capital for debt reduction and fleet maintenance.

GANDER, Newfoundland (AP) — Standing in the town that sheltered thousands of stranded Americans after the Sept. 11 attacks, former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien marked the 25th anniversary Friday with a pointed message for the United States: "Never mistake our generosity for weakness."
The 92-year-old former leader, who was prime minister at the time of the attacks, drew a standing ovation after telling his "American friends" that Canadians may be tolerant and kind but "we bow to no one." U.S. Ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra rose afterward and hugged him.
"I say that not in anger, but as one friend to another," Chrétien said. "Friends need to be honest with each other."
The unusually blunt remarks came during a solemn ceremony honoring the nearly 3,000 people killed in New York, at the Pentagon and aboard Flight 93, and remembering Gander's extraordinary response to the attacks.
Gander, Newfoundland opened its arms to nearly 6,600 airline passengers diverted there when the U.S. government shut down airspace during 9/11.

Passengers have welcomed the return of publicly owned bus services to Merseyside for the first time since the 1980s.
The first services launched in St Helens on Sunday 6 September and will expand to the Wirral later this year. Full roll-out across the city region is expected by 2027.
Liverpool City Region secured £86.3m in government funding to help roll out the scheme. The Department for Transport said it would give local leaders greater control over routes, branding and fares, while helping improve services for passengers.
A new service to Liverpool John Lennon Airport has launched, as well as an early morning express journey to Southport.

Imagine a city free from rush-hour traffic -- not a city that literally doesn't have cars (like, say, Venice), but one that has aerial forms of transportation, like flying cars.
That picture in your head is something that could become real in the next decade. The term for it is "urban air mobility." It won't look like The Jetsons or Back to the Future II -- that is, present-day cars that can hover and propel. Rather, urban air mobility will give us electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, basically a combo of drone and helicopter. They will be quieter than helicopters, with a quick velocity that can reduce an hour of traffic to a 10-minute aerial hop.

The total addressable market of urban air mobility could become a trillion-dollar market, which opens an opportunity to invest in its start-ups. One of those start-ups is Archer Aviation (NYSE: ACHR) -- and it very much has the potential to set investors up for life.

Ryanair, the biggest low-fare airline in Europe, on Wednesday lowered its winter traffic target to reduce exposure to high unhedged oil prices, and warned the some of its less well-hedged competitors could struggle to survive this winter amid high fuel costs.
Since the Iran war slashed deliveries of crude oil and petroleum products from the Middle East, rising jet fuel prices have eaten into the profitability of all airlines globally.
Ryanair is one of the most hedged airlines, with about 80% of fuel costs hedged at $67 per barrel. However, the remaining unhedged 20% is highly exposed to the jet fuel prices currently trading at about $140 per barrel, Ryanair said in its August 2026 traffic stats.
In light of the high unhedged oil prices, "it is sensible to strategically reduce the Group's exposure to unhedged jet fuel during the unprofitable winter schedule (from Nov. to Mar.)," the budget airline said.
Ryanair cut its winter traffic target to 214 million from 216 million passengers, expecting traffic to be broadly flat year-over-year.

NICOSIA, Aug 30 (Reuters) - At least eight people died and 18 were missing after a ferry carrying around 270 passengers and crew capsized off North Cyprus on Sunday, leaving survivors clinging to its overturned hull.
The privately owned ferry left the ‌port of Kyrenia at 12:30 p.m. local time (0930 GMT) and immediately started taking on water for an unknown reason, authorities ‌said. It was heading for the Turkish port of Tasucu in the eastern Mediterranean.
Survivors reported the ferry moving erratically, with its last hard impact with the water's surface breaking the bow of the two-hulled vessel, allowing water to seep in. The boat was carrying 267 people, including a crew of eight, while 241 people were rescued.
The disaster occurred just off the coast of Kyrenia, a popular holiday resort for both locals and tourists. The ferry was one of several shuttle sea services that link North Cyprus, a breakaway unrecognised Turkish Cypriot state, with Turkey daily.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the territory. Hours after ‌the incident relatives remained outside a local hospital and the port gates in Kyrenia, waiting for news of their loved ones. Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman said he was "deeply saddened" by the incident.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry recently traveled to the UK on a private jet for a specific reason. According to an insider, they made an expensive decision only for their dogs. It was reported that their furry pets accompanied the Sussexes from Los Angeles to Birmingham. For those unversed, the couple has moved back to Britain with their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry returned to the UK on a private jet because of their dogs. A source told Page Six that the Sussex pair paid $120K per hour solely for their pets. They boarded the 10-hour flight, which consisted of comfortable seating for around 13 passengers. According to the outlet, they opted to charter a private plane through the global private aviation company Planet 9.
The luxury jet included five beds, two bathrooms, and storage for a maximum of 15 medium-sized suitcases. Harry and Markle reportedly flew royal for their family dogs — Pula, a black Labrador Retriever, and Mia, a beagle. Only the furry pets accompanied the couple from their Montecito estate.
Meanwhile, the Sussexes landed in England on August 26. This time, they didn't come to visit but to stay. After six years, the family of four has returned to Harry's homeland. They left in 2020 when the couple stepped down as working royals. However, at that time, Lilibet was not born.
The news reportedly came as a shock because the couple had reportedly vowed never to return to royal life. It was reported that Harry and Meghan would still be non-working royals, meaning they would live as private citizens. Furthermore, they would continue to use the Sussexes **** le. Allegedly, they have relocated outside London,

When Spirit Airlines collapsed into bankruptcy, the headlines focused on grounded planes and stranded passengers. But the most consequential part of Spirit's liquidation was invisible: the sale of its trade‑secret dataset; decades of operational intelligence, human decision‑making patterns, proprietary algorithms, and workflow histories sold to Google for just $10 million. The real value is at least 10x by any reasonable measure OTHER than what they sold for in a time of liquidation. I would argue that Spirit could and should have had those **** ets valued and kept a running tally long before bankruptcy and, in fact, as a matter of diligence.
Court filings show Google acquired more than 100 million internal emails, 500 million Teams messages, 7.5 billion de‑identified passenger records, 7.2 billion competitor pricing observations, and 30 million lines of code during the bankruptcy auction. These were not mere "data." They were (assuming they were actually owned by Spirit and protected properly) Spirit's trade secrets—the accumulated operational knowledge of a 17,000‑employee enterprise.
And Spirit was forced to let them go for pennies.
This should alarm every CEO, board member, investor, and lender. Spirit's failure wasn't the auction, though they should have been able to attract many more bidders than the two that participated. It was the years preceding it. From all appearances, the airline never formally inventoried its trade secrets, never valued them, may or may not ever have protected them with proper rigor, and never insured them. When the crisis came, Spirit had no idea what it owned or what it was worth.

Delta Air Lines is betting big on artificial intelligence (AI) — and the technology could eventually change not just how the airline operates, but how much passengers pay to fly.
In a recent discussion, Delta CEO Ed Bastian said AI could ultimately improve the airline's profitability by as much as 50%, largely by helping the company make faster, smarter decisions and reduce costs. Bastian described the opportunity as potentially moving Delta's profit margin from around 10% to 15%, which would amount to billions of dollars.

DAKAR, Senegal (AP) — Six people who were deported by the United States to Liberia last week resisted getting off the plane and instead were sent to Equatorial Guinea, another ‌African nation that signed a third-country deportation agreement with the Trump administration, a person on the plane and a lawyer in contact with the six said Monday.
Under a series of often secret agreements, the Trump administration has deported thousands of people to two dozen countries that aren't their own as it pushes ahead with its immigration crackdown, advocates say. Immigration lawyers say the practice is being used as a legal loophole to indirectly return some asylum seekers to countries they fled.
The group who refused to get off the plane in Liberia on Thursday include four Cuban men, a Brazilian man and a Cameroonian woman, the person and lawyer said.
A Honduran deportee aboard the flight said the group refused to disembark, saying Liberia was "not their country" and that they would face danger there. They were then separated from the others, he said. He spoke on condition of anonymity out of fear of reprisals.
He said the other passengers got off in Liberia because they feared officers would force them.

John Barrowman's expensive flight from Los Angeles to London took a turbulent turn before he even reached his destination. The "Doctor Who" actor posted a video from American Airlines' business class cabin complaining about missing pajamas, an incorrect meal order and what he described as "shady" customer service. However, his attempt to hold the airline accountable quickly backfired as social media users accused the 59-year-old performer of acting like a "diva."
Eroteme / MEGA
Barrowman filmed himself from his seat while his father and husband were seated behind him. "Hi American [Airlines] we have paid for the flagship service," the Scottish-American actor began.
He explained that the three travelers expected to receive pajamas after purchasing costly business class tickets. "My father and my husband behind and the tickets were very expensive and we get on thinking we'd get pajamas with the flagship service," Barrowman said.
The actor claimed that complimentary sleepwear was instead distributed only to certain passengers at the front of the cabin. "Then you apparently only give them to the first two rows in business class. What's that all about?" he asked. "So far you're not batting very high."

OneSpaWorld has posted 21 consecutive quarters of record revenue and adjusted earnings, with second-quarter revenue rising 9% to $261.2 million.
Analysts maintain an overall Buy rating on the stock, with an average price target of $30.60 implying about 15% upside from current levels.
The company's heavy reliance on revenue-sharing deals with cruise operators poses a key risk, and its shares trade at a premium valuation near 33 times earnings.
While major cruise lines are performing well these days with more passengers and revenue, OneSpaWorld Holdings (NASDAQ: OSW) is performing even better.

American Airlines Group Inc. (NASDAQ:AAL) and easyJet plc (LON:EZJ) are facing the same industry-wide challenge: sharply higher fuel costs. Yet their latest earnings suggest they are responding in very different ways. American Airlines (NASDAQ:AAL) delivered record quarterly revenue as stronger pricing and premium demand offset part of the fuel shock, while easyJet's (LON:EZJ) profits plunged 70% despite continued operational improvements.
The key question for investors is whether American Airlines Group's (NASDAQ:AAL) pricing power or easyJet's (LON:EZJ) fuel-hedging strategy leaves either airline better positioned if elevated fuel costs persist.
The strongest argument in favor of American Airlines Group (NASDAQ:AAL) is the quality of its revenue growth. Total revenue rose 16.3% to a company-record $16.7 billion, while capacity increased only 5.4%. Passenger unit revenue improved across premium and Main Cabin products as well as domestic and every major international region. Premium passenger unit revenue increased 13.4%, Main Cabin passenger unit revenue rose 8.8%, and domestic passenger unit revenue advanced 10.6%. The gap between revenue growth and capacity growth suggests American Airlines Group (NASDAQ:AAL) generated a significant portion of its improvement through stronger pricing and higher revenue per available seat rather than simply flying more aircraft.
The recovery was also broad-based, extending across premium, Main Cabin, domestic, and international markets rather than relying on a single customer segment. That diversification is encouraging because it makes revenue growth less dependent on one area of demand while reinforcing management's strategy of prioritizing higher-value passengers through additional premium seating and fleet upgrades.
easyJet's (LON:EZJ) investment case rests less on pricing power and more on risk management. Although profits came under considerable pressure, non-fuel costs remained broadly in line with expectations, and approximately 72% of the airline's second-half fuel requirements had already been hedged. While management acknowledged that the remaining unhedged fuel exposure leaves the airline vulnerable to additional price increases, the hedge book provides an important buffer against near-term volatility.

Ryanair (NASDAQ:RYAAY) reported a difficult start to its fiscal year, with PAT for the quarter falling 34% to €593 million (£503 million) as the price of its 20% unhedged jet fuel spiked and fares fell 6%. Although revenue edged 1% higher to €4.4 billion, the airline was forced to lower ticket prices to stimulate demand amid geopolitical uncertainty. The company also anticipates summer fares to be slightly lower compared to last year, mainly due to "consumer hesitancy" surrounding air travel. The question for investors now is whether Ryanair's (NASDAQ:RYAAY) cost advantages are enough to offset weaker pricing if that trend continues.
At first glance, the quarter looks disappointing. However, the underlying demand picture was stronger than the headline profit decline suggests. Passenger numbers increased 6% during the quarter, allowing revenue to rise 1% to €4.4 billion despite a 6% decline in fares. That suggests consumers are still willing to travel, even if airlines have had to compete more aggressively on price.
The company's biggest advantage, however, may not be demand but costs. Management said Ryanair (NASDAQ:RYAAY) remains better positioned than many of its competitors because approximately 80% of its fuel requirements through the end of March 2027 have already been hedged at $67 per barrel. It also hedged another 15% of next year's fuel needs at $85 per barrel during the recent interim ceasefire. By locking in a significant portion of its future fuel costs, Ryanair (NASDAQ:RYAAY) has reduced its exposure to one of the airline industry's biggest sources of earnings volatility.
Management also declined to provide a full-year profit forecast, arguing that it is still too early given the importance of close-in bookings over the remainder of the summer. While that creates uncertainty, it also suggests the company believes the rest of the summer season will play a much larger role in determining full-year performance than the first quarter alone.
The biggest concern for Ryanair (NASDAQ:RYAAY) following the recent earnings is that stronger passenger demand has not translated into stronger profitability. Despite carrying more passengers, Ryanair reported a 34% decline in profit after reducing fares to stimulate demand. If pricing remains under pressure, volume growth alone may not be enough to drive a meaningful earnings recovery.

In just a few days, Amazon-owned Zoox will start charging for robotaxi rides. This might not seem like a big deal; the company's custom-built robotaxis are already giving rides to passengers in Las Vegas and San Francisco, after all. And it's opening up an early rider program in Miami and Austin too.
None of this matters — in a business sense — until the company can operate commercially.
And now it can, starting August 10, thanks to an exemption issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Because Zoox vehicles lack many of the traditional controls required under federal law, such as a steering wheel and pedals, it needed an exemption from federal motor vehicle standards in order to operate. It had an exemption that allowed it to demonstrate the technology; this one allows Zoox to operate a fleet of up to 2,500 vehicles commercially for two years.
The exemption is a win for Zoox, but it also paves the way for any other autonomous vehicle developer that wants to launch a robotaxi that lacks a steering wheel, pedals, or other requirements that might not be needed in a vehicle with no human driver. For instance, a robotaxi really doesn't need a rearview mirror; it already achieves that kind of visibility with sensors on the exterior of the vehicle.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced a $22.5 billion renovation of Washington Dulles International Airport that will end the use of the widely disliked "people movers," the mobile lounges that have been used for decades to shuttle travelers to and from the main terminal.
In place of the people movers, the airport will add a new U-shaped passenger train, a central walking tunnel, more moving walkways and new concourses. An above-ground parking garage closer to the main terminal with ****** e for 32,000 vehicles is also in the offing, according to Trump and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.
The airport makeover would add to a long list of renovation projects the Republican president is pursuing to leave a lasting mark on the Washington region after his term ends in January 2029. Among other undertakings, he is building a new White House ballroom and wants to build a towering triumphal arch near the Lincoln Memorial.
But of all the construction projects Trump is pursuing, the renovations at Dulles could prove to be his most popular and benefit the greatest number of people. The airport, the area's primary international airport, served roughly 29 million passengers over the past year, according to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.
"This transformation is another step in our ongoing efforts to make Washington, D.C., safe and beautiful again," Trump said. "We're doing something with Dulles that's going to make it the top anywhere in the world."

Tesla kicked off earnings season — at least for this sector — and the shareholder letter, along with Elon Musk's remarks during the conference call, provided some pretty incredible disclosures I imagine have some investors concerned, or at least puzzled.
Tesla has backed off previous promises to reach "volume production" of the Cybercab, Tesla Semi, and Megapack 3 in 2026. And while the company has publicly touted expansions of its Tesla Robotaxi service into new cities in Florida and Texas, the quarter-over-quarter data shows a drop in paid robotaxi miles.
Senior reporter Sean O'Kane took a closer look at a graph shared in Tesla's shareholder letter. At a passing glance, the chart appears to show steady growth in paid robotaxi rides between August 2025 and June 2026, O'Kane notes. But the numbers displayed are **** ulative, and when broken down by quarter, they show that Tesla's Robotaxi fleet of Model Y SUVs carrying paying passengers covered around 1.1 million miles in the first quarter. That fell to roughly 700,000 miles in the second quarter, a decline of about 36%.
Musk also disclosed during the call that Tesla needs to accumulate driving data specific to the Cybercab before it can put large numbers of the vehicles on the road. That isn't terribly surprising; the Cybercab is new, after all. But the reason got my attention. He explained that Tesla has to accumulate miles using Cybercabs retrofitted with steering wheels and accelerator and braking pedals so it can calibrate to the Cybercab chassis.

One of the largest nuclear verdicts in history against trucking was handed down Thursday in a Dallas courtroom, a more than $600 million judgement that has quickly thrust C.H. Robinson into the post-Montgomery legal landscape.
A jury in Dallas County Court handed down a verdict of approximately $604 million in a case involving a March 2021 crash in Jackson, Mississippi. The case was filed in the Texas courtroom because the carrier whose truck was involved in the wreck, Lupus Superior, is based there.
C.H. Robinson (NASDAQ: CHRW) hired Lupus Superior to move products from Arizona Beverages.
Three persons were killed in the crash alongside numerous injuries to other automobile passengers in a pileup that occurred after a Lupus Superior truck driven by its employee, Gorgonio Gonzalez, plowed into several cars. Gonzalez also was killed in the crash.
The lead named plaintiff in the case is the estate of Peyton Lipe, who was one of the deceased.
