America's F1 hopeful Colton Herta pulls out of the sprint F2 race in Madrid with illness, but it comes after the FIA penalised him to start from the pitlane.
It is not going well for America's F1 hopeful Herta at all in the FIA Formula 2 (F2) Championship in 2026. Having taken a big step to move away from IndyCar in the hope of securing enough superlicence points to race in Formula 1, potentially with Cadillac, the season hasn't gone his way at all.
Racing for Hitech GP, Herta is 17th with 26 points after 10 rounds, with a best result of fifth. The American is racing at F1's new Madring circuit in Madrid on Spanish GP weekend. He started it well in fourth. He was doing well in qualifying in the Top 10 for the most part.
However, he dropped to 12th in the end after he suffered a crash at Turn 19 to end the session. Following the day's run, just before Restricted Period One kicked in for F2 teams, Hitech GP found a problem with the American's car, which they started to work on.
Since it was a priority, they continued working into Restricted Period One and therefore were in breach of Article 21.6a of the F2 regulations. The technical delegate reported the matter, and the stewards duly penalised him with a pitlane start in Madrid's sprint race on Saturday.

Offensive lineman Cooper Cousins has been named to the Jason Witten Man of the Year award watch list, an honor that showcases a player who has displayed the best character and has shown commitment to community, family and teammates. Cousins isn't just one of the more promising offensive linemen in the nation — he's also one of the best people in the sport.
He's done nothing but great things in the community since coming to State College in 2024. Cousins struck up a friendship in his freshman year with a 10-year-old boy named Gannon Kupko Jr. who is dealing with a serious illness. He also spoke at the 2025 Game Day Gala, an event for children fighting difficult battles like Gannon, and the function raised more than $3 million.
Cousins is one of the most important players on the Nittany Lions, and he's also a pillar in the community. It will be a treat to watch him continue to work this season and make a lasting impact on the community.

The Minnesota Vikings continue to be relatively healthy as Week 1 approaches. Jakobe Thomas, the team's third-round pick at safety, was the only player who didn't participate in Wednesday's practice due to an illness.
However, it appears Thomas has gotten past that. He was limited in Thursday's practice, as were fellow rookies Caleb Tiernan (ankle) and Jacob Thomas (ankle), the undrafted free-agent safety out of James Madison.
Green Bay's injury list was lengthier, with DL Warren Brinson and LB Ty'Ron Hopper listed as DNPs for the second straight day. Suzie Walters-Jeffries from Devon Carers at Westbank said the project was designed to thank 100 of the 35,000 unpaid carers across Devon who look after people with dementia, mental health issues, chronic illness and other health challenges.
The project has been coordinated by Devon Carers at Westbank, the Devon Partnership NHS Trust and mental health charity Open Up.

Number-one ranked Ohio State is traveling to Austin to take on the fourth-ranked Longhorns this weekend in what has become the most-anticipated college football game of the season so far.
According to ticketdata.com, the cheapest tickets available for the game are $463 - nearly three times higher than any other college football game this week. However, not only are the tickets hot, but the weather will be too. Game day temperatures in Austin will rise to dangerous levels, with heat index values rising to nearly 110 degrees.
Saturday's temperatures will be similar to last week's game against Texas State, during which Austin-Travis County EMS transported 13 fans from DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium to surrounding local hospitals due to heat-related illnesses.
Temperatures in Austin are expected to be in the mid-90s at noon Saturday before rising to 100-102 degrees by 3 to 4 p.m. Due to elevated humidity levels, the heat index, or "feel-like" temperature, is likely to reach as high as 108 degrees. There will be a slight breeze, as southeast winds are expected at around 10 mph.

LAHINCH, Ireland – Multiple players on the U.S. Walker Cup team are dealing with stomach issues ahead of the 51st edition at Lahinch Golf Club.
William Jennings, a rising junior at Alabama, and Oklahoma State senior Ethan Fang, who competed in last year's Walker Cup at Cypress Point, did not join their other eight teammates for on-course practice on Thursday morning as they recover from stomach illnesses.
"They're good," U.S. captain Nathan Smith said. "They're just going to get a little rest and should be good to go."
This is not the first time that a stomach illness has stricken Walker Cup competitors the week of the competition. In 2021 at Seminole, 16 members from both teams, including the two captains, contracted stomach bugs, with some gastrointestinal issues so severe that they required players be sent to the emergency room.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the two teams had alternates on site, and two of them – American Mac Meissner and GB&I's Jake Bolton – were subbed into action. It marked the first time in the event, which dates to 1922, that alternates were used.

An investigation is ongoing after an Arizona State hockey player collapsed on the first day of workouts with the team this fall.
Sun Devils defenseman Matthew Mayich was participating in a workout on Aug. 20, the first day of Arizona State classes for the fall semester, when he collapsed. First responders arrived after calls of a heat-related illness, and Mayich was taken to a local hospital. He has since been transferred to the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix.
Temperature at the time was reportedly between 87 and 89 degrees. The workout was being run by an ex-Green Beret soldier, too, who was leading the team through "grueling" drills, his attorney Robert Carey told the Arizona Republic on Monday. Multiple players told Carey that the former soldier, Tim Ziesel, "yelled at them from the get-go … like a drill instructor," and that they were told not to complain. Water, he said, was only available for those who led exercises.
Mayich allegedly showed obvious signs of distress and was unable to complete tasks throughout the workout.
"He was disoriented and struggled well before he collapsed," Carey said.

Dolly Parton has been laid to rest after a private funeral, her family has confirmed.
Her death was announced by her nephew, Bryan Seaver, in an Instagram video posted August 25. The musician's publicist confirmed Parton's cancer diagnosis to the ******* ociated Press later in the day, but did not give further details on her illness.
Dolly's niece, Lainey Parton, shared a touching tribute to her aunt August 29, confirming the Queen of Country had been laid to rest the day prior.
"I wanted to wait until after my granny was laid to rest yesterday before I tried to put any of this into words," Lainey wrote of her "Aunt Granny."

Happy Sunday Husky fans. Today is the last Sunday without Husky football football happening for the next few months, which means recruiting is kicking into gear again. High school football is also kicking off and several Husky targets saw their seasons start.
Teammates Blake Rospkopf and Zerek Sidney (from Desert Edge) both had solid outings in their first games of their senior seasons against Cactus Shadows. Roskopf had 416 yards through the air with 3 touchdowns and 1 INT. Roskopf, who is set to enroll early and also take part in the Army All American Game, is set to have a big year for Desert Edge this season. Sidney had a solid start to his senior season with 7 receptions for 142 yards and a 2 point conversion. It's nice to see solid production from Sidney who missed time last year with an illness.
The Huskies are hoping they can land their teammate, 5 star edge Jalanie George, in the 2028 class. George, who is set to visit Montlake next weekend for the Apple Cup, had a strong start to his junior campaign with 8 tackles and 2 TFL's. It's still early but the Huskies appear to be one of the favorites for George who is also looking at Auburn, Ole Miss, Florida, and Miami. Listed at 6'5" and around 240 pounds George projects as a future edge and should have the frame and size to play early once he gets to college.
Edge commit Chaz Gray and his St Joseph Regional squad lost their season opening battle against Mt Carmel HS. Gray had a solid outing (I don't have his official stats), and he was disruptive and stout on the edge. Listed at 6'4" and around 250 pounds Gray already has a college frame and the Huskies are excited to bring him on to Montlake in January (it sounds like he will try and make his way to Montlake for the Apple Cup as well). Gray's brother Tahj is one of the top recruits in the 2028 class, and the Huskies are shooting their shot with him to see if they can land the talented linebacker and he is looking at UW seriously with his brother set to be a Husky(there is some stiff competition with Ohio State pushing really hard for him as well). Listed at 6'3" and around 230 pounds Gray is an active linebacker who is rated as the #1 linebacker in the country via his composite ranking.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Parasitic illness cases linked to recalled iceberg lettuce have now been confirmed in 20 states, federal health officials said Thursday, expanding the scope of the largest outbreak of its kind in the U.S.
The Food and Drug Administration said government scientists have now identified cases in three additional states: Georgia, Tennessee and Texas.
The tally of people sickened by the parasite is now 11,458, up from about 10,900 reported last week.
The FDA, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state health officials have focused their investigation on lettuce grown at a farm in central Mexico operated by Taylor Farms, a major U.S. produce supplier.
The FDA said its staffers are continuing to inspect and test produce at the farm, in cooperation with officials from the Mexican government. The U.S. agency said it "remains confident that all recalled iceberg lettuce related to this specific cyclospora outbreak is off the market."

Walsh's athletics Twitter account posted the following message at 8:58 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27:
"The home opener vs. [Clark County] Springfield High School has been cancelled due to illnesses within Springfield's program. They have decided to forfeit the game.
"For those who purchased tickets in advance, please note that our athletic department will be issuing refunds in the coming days."

Brian Austin Green is opening up about a frightening health crisis that changed nearly every part of his daily life. The Beverly Hills, 90210 alum says he once struggled to walk, speak, read and write. Green described the symptoms as neurological and "stroke-like."
During the Aug. 26 episode of Really Famous with Kara Mayer Robinson, Green revisited the health struggle he experienced more than a decade ago. "I ended up with this neurological thing, and it was, like, stroke-like symptoms," Green said.
The actor explained that the illness began when he was around 39 or 40. According to Green, the symptoms became so severe that he had to relearn basic skills. "I had to learn how to walk again, to talk again," he said. Green added that he could not read or write during the worst period.
The Beverly Hills 90210 star told Robinson that his brain and body felt completely disconnected. He estimated that his recovery took roughly four and a half years.
Green said doctors never reached a complete diagnosis for the neurological symptoms. However, he believes internal inflammation played a role. He also discussed diet and emotional stress as possible contributing factors.

If you're like me, you grew up dreaming that one day you'd be a writer. I consider myself immensely lucky that I get to do this job which often does not feel like a job at all. Still, there are challenges: as with so many creative feels, wages are low, opportunities can be slim, and the politics of who knows who and how to get ahead are everywhere. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, writers make an average of about $70K a year; and writers often work additional jobs to make ends meet. None of this is helped along by our growing literacy crisis, nor the ever increasing presence of AI. OpenAI's head of data centers, Chris Malone, has left the company, adding to a string of senior executive departures at the artificial intelligence lab this year.
TechCrunch first reported his departure. Malone, who brought experience from data center roles at Meta and Google, came aboard in March 2025, and his exit arrives amid OpenAI's sweeping infrastructure expansion — one that envisions committing around $600 billion to compute through 2030, per CNBC.
OpenAI said in a statement that the company had "recently reorganized" its "infrastructure organization to support the scale and pace of our work," adding that it has "a strong, deeply experienced data center team in place, with clear leadership and the technical expertise to execute our plans."
