After Josh Kerr became Great Britain's first ever Ultimate Champion with a dominant victory in the 1500m in Budapest on Sunday evening, he celebrated in customary fashion - Union Jack draped around him, beaming smile, arms raised before the cheering crowd.
But he also did something less traditional, ramping up a battle over funding at the top of athletics in the process.
The 28-year-old made a clear point of obscuring the Nike sponsor's logo on his Great Britain kit by tying his Brooks-branded running spikes over his shoulder, meaning that the video footage and photographs of his trophy lift highlighted his own personal sponsor rather than his nation's.
After praising the inaugural running of the Ultimate Championship, a new biennial event run by World Athletics with a focus on big names, Kerr explained the meaning behind the move in his interview with BBC Sport.
"There is one last thing that I think we can get right, which is allowing the athletes to represent their own brands versus their country," Kerr said.

Dow Jones futures fell early Monday, along with S&P 500 futures and especially Nasdaq futures. Crude oil prices jumped while AI stocks are under pressure after artificial intelligence leaders called for slowing AI model development. Treasury yields and the upcoming Federal Reserve meeting also are key this week.
The stock market fell last week, but rebounded Friday, with Apple (AAPL), Moderna (MRNA) and NetApp (NTAP) flashing buy signals. The S&P 500 index declined 0.8% and the Nasdaq fell 0.7%, both above their 50-day moving averages. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 1.6% in last week's stock market trading. The small-cap Russell 2000 shed 2.4%. Both are below their 50-day lines.
A number of stocks flashed buy signals or are setting up, but the choppy index action and rapid sector rotation has been a difficult environment.
U.S. crude oil futures spiked 9.4% to $100.05 a barrel last week, even with Friday's 2.4% decline. Oil prices shot up 20% in the last two weeks amid the widening U.S.-Iran conflict, threatening further oil supply routes.
The 10-year Treasury yield surged 19 basis points to 4.97%, the highest since nearly hitting 5% in October 2023. Markets are betting on a Fed rate hike, even as President Donald Trump reiterated his call for rate cuts.

ELLE UK hosted its annual ELLE Style Awards this week, celebrating the creative voices shaping the cultural landscape. Hosted by Ncuti Gatwa at The MAINE in London, the evening saw Rosamund Pike, Ruth Wilson, Simone Ashley, Jorja Smith and Dina Asher-Smith among the stars joining this year's award winners.
Dave Benett
Rosamund Pike presented Erdem Moralıoğlu with the British Brand of the Year award, so naturally she wore Erdem for the occasion. Her Fall 2026 patchwork gown is incredibly detailed, and while I'm not usually a fan of PVC heels, I do like how her Christian Louboutin Degraqueen sandals echo the embellishments and tulle overlay of the dress.
Dave Benett
Did it need more sparkle? Probably not, but the Repossi rings completed the look beautifully.

The economy, inflation and how those forces could impact the lives of Americans were front and center over the past week. Trips to the grocery store and gas station are more painful than they were last year, and rising costs are impacting the decisions of both households and businesses.
Here's a snapshot of prominent economic data and news that occurred over the past week and what it potentially means for you.
U.S. inflation accelerated last month as gas prices spiked in the wake of renewed fighting in the Middle East, underscoring the affordability challenges that are top of mind for many voters as midterm elections near.
The Labor Department said Friday that the consumer price index rose 3.4% last month compared with a year ago, the same as in July. But on a monthly basis, inflation accelerated, as costs jumped 0.4% from July to August, up from an increase of just 0.1% the previous month.
The figures show that inflation remains stubbornly elevated, more than five years after prices first soared as the economy emerged from the COVID pandemic. Persistent inflation has presented a major challenge for the inflation-fighters at the Federal Reserve and has soured many voters on the Trump administration's economic management.

Four matchups with a defense carrying a bottom-3 Defensive Impact grade have somehow produced 43.5 yards per game and 1.6 yards per route for Smith. He's 17th among wide receivers in PFN's Week 1 rankings, and I read that run as goofy variance and nothing more. With A.J. Brown in New England, we could get a spike performance right out of the gates.
The Commanders have held a bottom-3 Defensive Impact grade in consecutive seasons, and guess what?
For whatever reason, they've held Smith in check in four matchups over that stretch.

The European Central Bank is likely to deliver a 25 basis-point rate hike at its meeting concluding today. But while the direction of travel may be clear for now, the path beyond September is anything but.
The ECB is likely to keep its powder dry beyond today, with the path thereafter determined by how the economy and, above all, inflation respond to the renewed energy shock. The key message from the Governing Council is therefore likely to be hawkish: further hike(s) may be warranted if inflation risks intensify, but policymakers will want to retain flexibility rather than pre-commit to any specific policy path.
There is only modest evidence so far that inflation expectations are becoming less firmly anchored, although there may be growing concern that second-round effects may eventually turn a temporary energy shock into a more persistent inflation problem. The challenge for the ECB is that the economy has so far proven more resilient than expected, making an upside revision to its growth projections probable. Output rose more than anticipated during the second quarter, and business surveys are suggesting solid momentum ahead.
That resilience matters. A weaker economy would give policymakers more room to look through an energy-driven inflation spike. A more robust economy, by contrast, makes it harder to ***** ume that higher energy prices may simply wash through absent affecting wages, services prices and broader inflation behaviour.
Euro area headline inflation rose to 3.3% year on year last month (Figure 1), although the easing in core inflation to 2.4% does offer some reassurance. Underlying inflation measures have stayed comparatively moderate, wage pressures are still contained and there is, as yet, only sparse evidence that the energy shock is generating widespread second-round effects.

U.S. consumer prices rose 0.4% from the month before in August, the Labor Department estimated Sept. 11, in line with forecasters' expectations.
A spike in gas prices drove the increase, rising 3.9% over the month as the Iran war further limited the global oil supply. Over the year, prices for all items rose 3.4%, matching July's pace. That was still enough to surpass workers' paychecks, which rose on average 3.1% over the same period.
After reaching a peak of 9.1% in 2022, year-over-year inflation had made its way back to 2.4% at the start of 2026. It jumped to 3.4% in March driven by rising oil and gas prices following the start of the war. After hitting 4.2% in May, it slowed to 3.5% in June and to 3.4% in July.
It, along with the Federal Reserve's preferred measure of inflation, the Personal Consumption Expenditures price index, remain above the central bank's 2% annual target.
The Fed typically raises its benchmark for interest rates across the country to help tame inflation and lowers it to stimulate the job market. After Fed Chair Kevin Warsh said Aug. 28 policymakers' focus should be on rising prices and U.S. employers added a surprising 162,000 jobs last month, markets are betting on a rate hike after the Fed's next meeting on Sept. 16. However, one is not guaranteed.

The national average price of gasoline hit a record high over Labor Day weekend as new escalations in the war between the U.S. and Iran triggered a spike in oil prices, with Brent crude futures hitting $100 per barrel for the first time since July.
"Average gasoline prices rose in nearly three out of five states over the last week, while diesel surged in every state — with some climbing nearly 50 cents per gallon in just seven days," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum **** ysis at GasBuddy, in his weekly newsletter. "The milestone many hoped to avoid has arrived: the national average price of gasoline on Labor Day set a new record for the holiday, eclipsing the previous mark of $3.83 per gallon set in 2012."
As of Sept. 9, regular gas was $4 per gallon, with diesel sitting at over $5 per gallon, according to AAA. Crude oil prices were trading above $90 per barrel, and Brent crude was above $100 per barrel.
However, despite elevated fuel prices, as a new season approaches, there may be hope for drivers who are feeling the pinch.

An early Los Angeles Rams celebration poking fun at a widely discussed travel debate backfired spectacularly against the 49ers when San Francisco responded with 24 unanswered points to secure a Week 1 win in Melbourne, Australia.
In the days leading up to this season-opening NFC West matchup, the discourse surrounding the game was less about the players on the field, and more about the way they'd get there from the United States. With the game set to take place in Melbourne on Friday morning local time, each team tried a different approach to account for the 17-hour time difference from California (where it was still Thursday afternoon). The Niners flew out of San Francisco last Wednesday to get acclimated to the new time zone and have a full week of practice. The Rams, meanwhile, did not fly in until the day before the game, with the thought of keeping their players' biological clocks on West Coast time.
It became clear that the Week 1 affair would be a referendum on the superior preparation approach, and, at first, it certainly looked like the Rams made the smarter choice. They were dominant early and scored the game's first touchdown. Los Angeles even made fun of the whole debate early in the second quarter after a bad Brock Purdy pick. The whole defense celebrated in the end zone with players taking a nap on the grass.
However, it proved to be a bit early to spike the proverbial football. The Rams followed up with an inexplicable interception of their own, and the Niners drove 86 yards down the field for their first touchdown of the game. From there, things completely fell apart for Los Angeles as the Raheem Morris-led Niners defense kept the Rams from doing anything, and Kyle Shanahan's offense somehow turned Myles Garrett - the biggest acquisition in the NFL this offseason - completely invisible. San Francisco scored 24 straight points, including seven from a 99-yard drive down the field, and even forced two more turnovers.
Linebacker Fred Warner even gave a response of his own, getting a Steph Curry-style night-night celebration off in his first game since fracturing his ankle last season.

Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) stock soared nearly 50% in May, as Wall Street began seeing the legacy automotive company as a hidden-gem infrastructure play as the demand for artificial intelligence (AI) and data center energy explodes. The stock has since given back about half of its May surge, and that gives investors who see long-term growth an opportunity to jump back in at a better price.
Here's why investors should be intrigued.

In May, the Detroit automaker announced its wholly owned subsidiary, called Ford Energy, which will develop and offer a battery energy storage system (BESS) for utility customers, AI data centers, and other large industrial and commercial customers. Savvy investors may have seen this coming, but for the most part, Ford built the new business behind the scenes, securing supply chains and preparing manufacturing. Ford Energy will manufacture battery cells, **** emble modules and containers, and offer sales and service support, which could be the lucrative part. That's because the automaker's Ford Energy DC block was designed to have a stable and predictable lifetime performance for about two decades.
To help connect the dots for investors wondering, AI data centers run intense workloads that put immense strain on the electrical grid. Ford's BESS give AI data centers security in the event of electrical grid fluctuations or blackouts, as the centers need an uninterrupted power supply. The systems will also provide power during AI workload spikes, charge when electricity is cheap, and discharge when prices peak, ultimately lowering costs and providing downtime protection.

Hasan Piker hears the growing chorus of Democrats condemning him for incendiary statements, and he has a message for the party: "My job is not to make the Democratic Party look good."
The far-left Twitch streamer has boosted socialist candidates even as he created headaches for the broader Democratic Party in a midterm election cycle where it hopes to make major gains. The 35-year-old Piker — whose polarizing stances range from defending communist Chinese dictator Mao Zedong to comparing Zionism to "Nazism" — is a darling of the Democratic Socialists of America, but a potential liability for mainstream Democrats as November approaches.
Piker said Democratic Party officials have not reached out to coordinate a strategy.
"I have not had a conversation with anyone from the DNC," Piker said. "That would be very funny."

Since launching his Senate bid in April 2025, El-Sayed has distanced himself from a number of positions he had previously held and scrubbed much of his left-wing pre-campaign content from the internet. He has also repeatedly insisted that he is "not a socialist."
While attempting to convince voters that characterizations of him as a left-wing ideologue are inaccurate, El-Sayed has appeared at campaign events with and accepted endorsements from a range of political allies and supporters with controversial records or views.

Over the past five years, Eli Lilly (NYSE: LLY) stock managed a total return of 376%. If the stock managed a repeat over the next five years, share prices would top $5,500. Much of its current performance boost is thanks to enthusiasm over its GLP-1 offerings.
Are the same factors that led to the healthcare company's sharp rise likely to recur? The simple answer is no. While its metabolic GLP-1 weight-loss therapies helped spike revenue, it's not likely to happen again. Still, there are reasons to believe the pharmaceutical stock could double in value over the next five years, making a $5,000 investment in Eli Lilly stock worth more than $10,000 in five years. Rising rates create a specific, mechanical problem for dividend stocks: when risk-free yields climb, a payout has to fight bonds for the same investor dollar, and share prices of income names often slide even when the underlying business is fine. That backdrop is live right now. The 10-Year Treasury yield closed at 4.79% on September 2, 2026, sitting in the 99.2 percentile of its trailing one-year range. Against that competition, three US-listed Dividend Kings kept declaring higher payouts through every quarterly cycle from 2022 forward. Their dividend records tell the real story here.

President Donald Trump on Friday labeled the Iran war "small potatoes," the latest attempt to minimize a six-month conflict that caused a spike in gas prices and led to the deaths of 18 American service-members.
"A lot of people don't call it a war. I call it a military conflict because it's small potatoes for us. It's not a big thing," he said in the Oval Office.
A day earlier, Vice President JD Vance said the conflict shouldn't be termed a "war" since major combat operations ended months ago.
Trump similarly cast the conflict as periodic and low-grade, despite routine rounds of back-and-forth strikes.
"I would say that it's intermittent. You know, we do intermittent strikes," Trump said, adding: "There's a lot of truth that we're not fighting right now. There's no fighting."

Are the vigilantes back? Bond yields spiked across developed markets this week, with many hitting multi-decade highs, as rising deficits, elevated inflation and a surge of AI-driven corporate debt issuance left traders demanding higher compensation for the risk of holding longer-term government debt.
Far from a moral crusade by fixed income investors seeking to influence fiscal policy, this instead looks like a logical response to the economic facts on the ground, including the dawning reality that borrowing ‌rates in many large markets are likely going to be higher for longer.
Over the past week, the benchmark U.S. 10-year Treasury yield surged to roughly 4.80%, hitting its highest point since President Donald Trump returned to the White House early last year. This undid any ‌positive impact from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's bond-buying announcement two weeks ago.

On the September 1 episode of Mad Money, Jim Cramer called CrowdStrike Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:CRWD) a "heavy hitter" in cybersecurity and highlighted its Fal.Con conference in Las Vegas, as he said:
Listen, this is really important. Today was brutal for all things tech because these stocks tend to sell off horribly when hostilities with Iran resume, causing the price of oil to spike, which in turn pushes up bond yields. They have pretty high price-to-earnings multiples, and they're sensitive to rate hikes. But there are a lot of positives from this group, and I don't want you to miss them. Take CrowdStrike, the heavy hitter in the cybersecurity **** e. Today, in Las Vegas, they're holding their annual Fal.Con conference… and they're focused on securing AI everywhere. They're really hammering home the point that the rise of AI has made cybersecurity more essential than ever because hackers now have access to incredibly powerful AI agents.
CrowdStrike Holdings, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:CRWD) revenue rose 26% year-over-year to $1.47 billion in the fiscal second quarter of 2027, while annual recurring revenue increased 25% to $5.84 billion. Net new ARR reached a record $332.8 million, up 51%, prompting management to raise its fiscal 2027 net new ARR growth outlook to 34% at the midpoint. Free cash flow reached a record $377.4 million, up from $283.6 million a year earlier.
CrowdStrike Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:CRWD) is positioning Falcon to secure AI agents as enterprises deploy increasingly autonomous systems. Falcon Guardian, introduced at Fal.Con, provides visibility and runtime controls for AI agents, while an expanded partnership with OpenAI will secure Codex agents. The company also introduced an Agentic Identity Provider to manage trusted identities for AI agents.
As per the transcript of Fal.Con investor briefing, management raised its long-term expectations at the September 2 investor briefing, moving its $10 billion ARR target to within fiscal 2030 and its $20 billion target to within fiscal 2035, each one year earlier than previously expected. CrowdStrike said it is already about 30% of the way to the $20 billion target. It also estimates $29 billion of potential ARR from additional products within its existing customer base, up from $21 billion a year earlier. Moreover, customer expansion provides evidence of the cross-selling opportunity. As of July 31, 51% of subscription customers used six or more CrowdStrike modules, while 35% used seven or more and 26% used eight or more.

The crypto market—including Bitcoin and altcoins like XRP, Ethereum, and BNB—is riding a bullish wave of momentum in the U.S. stock market, seemingly triggered by fresh comments from the Federal Reserve, and sending short sellers to goblintown.
Bitcoin punched back above $80,000 on Thursday, trading near $80,270 and up close to 3% over the past 24 hours. Ethereum is closing in on $2,500, up 2.2% today, while XRP is up a whopping 6% in the last 24 hours. The spike has accounted for at least $327 million in liquidated short positions in the last hour alone, and more than $415 million in the past 24 hours.
The catalyst appears to be comments from Fed Governor Christopher Waller, who, in prepared remarks at a Reuters NEXT Newsmaker interview, said he'd be "inclined to support" holding the Fed's benchmark interest rate at its current level if upcoming inflation data keeps improving.
Traders took the hint. The odds of a rate hike at the Fed's September 15-16 meeting fell to 50.4%, down from 63.2% a day earlier, according to the CME FedWatch tool, a market gauge that estimates the odds of Fed moves from futures prices. The 10-year Treasury yield, a benchmark for borrowing costs economy-wide that had touched its highest level since November 2023 a day earlier, dropped to around 4.73%.
It's a sharp reversal from a week ago. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's hawkish Jackson Hole keynote had knocked Bitcoin down to $76,877 and pushed hike odds toward 56%. Thursday's bounce puts Bitcoin back at a level it's tested—and failed to hold—several times this year.

STILLWATER — On Sept. 19 last year, Oklahoma State players trudged off the Boone Pickens Stadium field after the final whistle blast. Tulsa players galloped.
Nine white Golden Hurricane uniforms crowded around to force OSU receiver Gavin Freeman out of bounds at the 10-yard line. OSU's desperation hook-and-ladder never had a realistic chance to tie the game. Freeman slapped his gloves together once, unleashing some frustration felt by everyone in the stadium wearing black and orange.
Tulsa beat OSU 19-12. It snapped OSU's 10-game winning streak in the Turnpike Classic rivalry and was the first time Tulsa beat OSU in Stillwater since 1951.
In the OSU locker room postgame, emotions were mixed.
"It was a lot of anger and stuff, people trying to be calm and stuff, telling us: 'We good, we good' and stuff like that." defensive end Jaleel Johnson said Tuesday. "I didn't think so, I mean, that was bad."

Nearly every bar around town will be showing Tennessee football's home opener against Furman, but some of our favorite spots to watch the Vols are places where you can see and hear the game.
College football season is the best time of year in Knoxville, and more than 100,000 fans are expected to pour into Neyland Stadium on Sept. 5 as the Volunteers kick off their season against the Paladins. Bars across the city also will be packed with crowds dressed in orange and white.
To save you the hassle of showing up somewhere you can't hear what's happening on TV, here's a quick list of places we know will have the sound on during the game.
Looking for a hole-in-the-wall to kick off the Tennessee football season? Back Door Tavern is a dive bar fixture on Kingston Pike, and it's the place Knox News readers voted Knoxville's best Vols bar in 2025.
With TVs on almost every wall, you shouldn't miss a moment of Tennessee's first game. This bar proudly displays Tennessee flags and signs, as well as Vols memorabilia behind the bar, on the ceiling and above its stage.

Dell Technologies (NYSE:DELL), a PCs, servers, storage, and enterprise AI infrastructure provider, closed at $492.00, up 15.76%. The company's stronger-than-expected quarter and raised outlook, backed by record AI server orders, drove the move, and investors are now watching AI server demand and margin trends. Trading volume reached 35.0M shares, coming in about 353% above its three-month average of 7.7M shares. Dell Technologies IPO'd in 2016 and has grown 3,976% since going public.
S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC) rose 0.47% to 7,667, while the Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) gained 0.45% to 26,218. In computer hardware and IT infrastructure, sector rivals HP (NYSE:HPQ) closed at $32.00, up 2.16%, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (NYSE:HPE) finished at $51.85, up 1.94%, as investors tracked Dell Technologies' AI order momentum and the broader PC margin backdrop.
Dell Technologies' Q2 earnings were a perfect encapsulation of how far the company has come since its "dude, you're getting a Dell" days. Revenue and adjusted EPS spiked 58% and 203% during the quarter, rocketing past Wall Street's expectations. The core driver of Dell's success in Q2 came from its AI-Optimized Server revenue of $16.4 billion, which doubled from last year.
As promising as this revenue growth alone is in its AI unit, its record $60.9 billion of orders and exiting backlog of $95 billion highlight that the best is yet to come and that Q2's excellent results may just be the tip of the iceberg. Powered by the visibility of this backlog, management raised its full-year guidance to 69% sales growth and a 148% rise in adjusted EPS, to $25.50. This leaves DELL stock trading at 19 times forward earnings, which isn't particularly outrageous given the company's AI potential and its steady servers, networking, and PC businesses.

Some days, the market has a plot. Today, it's a collective shrug.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES: ^DJI) was up 0.4% as of 12:55 p.m. ET, the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) added 0.5%, and the Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX: ^IXIC) rose 0.4%. All three indexes opened lower, and the Dow enjoyed a short-lived spike around 11 a.m. ET. But it's a pretty tight bundle of gains just below 0.5% as of this writing.

There is one clear hero behind the morning's index gains. Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) jumped 3.8% to $225.67, which by itself is worth a 0.38% boost of the Nasdaq Composite's total score. No other stock moved the index by 0.1% or more. Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) came close after a 2.9% jump, but it's hard to compete with a stock creating $206 billion of market value with a single-digit percentage ***** p.

Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO) has raised its dividend for 64 consecutive years and yields about 2.4% at a share price near $90. I think it belongs in most income portfolios, though not for the reason most people ******* ume.
In February, Coca-Cola raised its quarterly payout from $0.51 per share to $0.53, bringing the annual dividend to $2.12 per share from $2.04. That was a 3.9% increase and the 64th straight year of growth, a streak that has survived recessions, inflation spikes, and repeated shifts in what people drink. This streak puts Coca-Cola on the elite list of Dividend Kings, companies that have grown their dividends for at least 50 consecutive years.

Here is the honest part: A 2.4% yield doesn't sound like income for life. Five-year average dividend growth runs near 4.5%, and the payout ratio sits at 63.7%. The dividend alone will not drive strong near-term returns. What makes the case is what sits behind the payment.
Second-quarter net revenue rose 7% to $13.38 billion. Comparable earnings per share (EPS) grew 11% to $0.97 against a $0.93 estimate, and reported EPS jumped 16% to $1.03. Global unit case volume increased 5%, with every single reporting segment posting volume growth.
