David Owori, one of Uganda's best-known soccer players, has been killed in a "senseless act of violence," according to his club, SC Villa.
Owori, 27, was the captain for SC Villa, the Uganda Premier League record champion, and represented the Uganda national team.
SC Villa said that Owori was the victim of a "brutal ******* ault by unknown ******* ailants" near his home on Monday, Aug. 3.
"Owori was attacked near his home in Makindye on Monday evening before being rushed to Case Clinic in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he sadly passed away," the club said in a statement.
Per the BBC, witnesses said that a group of attackers hit Owori with paving stones before robbing him of his belongings and fleeing.

Sydney Sweeney has spoken out over the devastation caused by the wildfires in her hometown of Spokane, Washington.
According to local authorities, the fires have consumed more than 8,000 acres across Spokane County, with three main blazes destroying more than 700 structures. No deaths or injuries have been reported.
Taking to her Instagram Stories on Tuesday, Sydney put a spotlight on the news, emphasising that around 65,000 people have been evacuated from their homes.
"Spokane has always been home to me. It's where I grew up, where my family still lives, and where so many of the people and places that shaped me are," she began. "The devastating fires have changed countless lives in ways that are hard to put into words. Thousands of families have lost their homes, their belongings, and places of business, including members of my own family. This devastation is something our community has never experienced on this scale."
The Euphoria actress went on to note that she is supporting organisations including Innovia Foundation, SpokAnimal, Second Harvest, and Watch Duty amid the emergency. She also shared a link to Baby2Baby, a nonprofit that provides essentials for families and children.
"Unlike larger cities that often receive an overwhelming amount of national attention and resources, Spokane doesn't have the same spotlight," the 28-year-old declared. "If you're looking for ways to help, these are four organizations I'm supporting that are on the ground right now helping this community that needs us."

(NewsNation) — Puerto Rico police say they have identified a person of interest in the execution-style killing of an Ohio man who was fatally shot during a solo camping trip earlier this month, after he had texted friends about a mysterious "howler" outside his tent in the nights before his death.
Tyler Wilkin, 35, of Wilmington, Ohio, was found shot once in the head in the mangroves near Playa La Selva in Luquillo on July 10.
His body was discovered by a beachgoer during a morning walk just after 6 a.m., some distance from the campsite where his tent and belongings remained set up.

After Perry's death, many of his personal belongings were slated to be auctioned off, with the proceeds going to the Matthew Perry Foundation. However, a source claims that the actress was left aghast when she came to know their private letter would also be up for auction. A friend explained that according to Aniston, "it wasn't an artifact. It was a private conversation with someone she loved."
"Jen was shocked," one insider told Rob Shutter's Naughty But Nice. "She never imagined something written from the heart to a close friend would be treated as a collectible." A hiker found human remains next to a handgun in the McGaffey Ridge in the Carson National Forest on May 28, according to the New Mexico State Police. While the Office of the Medical Investigator was able to identify Casias’ remains, no cause of death has been determined.
“We confirm that the remains found in Rio Chiquito are Melissa,” Casias’ family said in a statement posted to a Facebook page established to find the New Mexico mother. “There will be more information to come but what we can tell you now is she was located in an area previously searched. This is a lot to process, our hearts are heavy and we fully intend to continue to pursue answers for justice.”
Casias, an administrative ***** istant for the federal government’s Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), was reported missing in late June 2025. She never arrived at work, did not return home, and left behind personal belongings.
Her family and authorities previously told Nexstar’s KRQE that Casias drove to work on Thursday, June 26, but forgot her badge. She decided instead to work from home.
In the early afternoon, Casias brought lunch to her daughter in Taos. Surveillance footage showed her leaving the area, Jazmin McMillen, Casias’ niece, said. Casias’ daughter returned home to find her mother gone, but her purse, car, keys, computer, and personal and work phones had been left behind.

Human remains discovered by a hiker in a northern New Mexico national forest last week have been identified as Melissa Casias, a Los Alamos National Laboratory employee who disappeared nearly a year ago, authorities said.
The remains were found May 28, nearly 11 months after she disappeared, in the McGaffey Ridge area of Carson National Forest — nearly 15 miles from her home in Taos. A handgun was found alongside the remains, the New Mexico State Police said in a news release.
The state Office of the Medical Investigator positively identified Casias, but the cause and manner of death have not yet been determined, police said. The remains will undergo further anthropological examination by the Office of the Medical Investigator.
State police declined to comment further when reached by CNN on Monday. CNN has also reached out to the Office of the Medical Investigator and Los Alamos National Laboratory.
Casias, 54, was last seen walking along a highway near Talpa, New Mexico, in June 2025, state police said. She had left her belongings — including her purse, identification and cellphones — at her home in Taos, nearly 8 miles away. One of her phones had been factory-reset, NBC News reported at the time.
