When True Food Kitchen filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Oct. 4, the chain's CEO Jeff Chandler tried to make it clear that the company planned to continue operating.
"This process is the best path forward to simplify the business and focus on what we do best: delivering craveable, health-forward food and genuine hospitality. We are confident this step will help us build a stronger True Food Kitchen for the future," he said in a press release.
True Food Kitchen serves an upscale clientele looking for healthy food. Most of its stores are located in higher-end shopping or lifestyle plazas. That contributed to its financial problems, Chad Van Horn, founder and managing partner of Van Horn Law Group in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., shared with TheStreet.
"True Food Kitchen did not file because people stopped eating there. Sales were essentially flat, about $312 million last year against $314 million the year before, and the reported debt is around $42 million. That is a cost and footprint problem, not a demand problem," he said.
As part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, True Food Kitchen shared that it had already closed 12 restaurants. Those locations completed their final service on Oct. 4, but the initial release did not share which locations were closing.

Jim Cramer has built a career on conviction calls, and few have been more consistent than his faith in Amazon (AMZN). For years, the Mad Money host has treated the retail giant as close to untouchable. A permanent fixture in nearly every portfolio he recommends.
That changed, briefly and publicly, after watching a rival's AI demo live on air. Here is what Cramer actually said, the stock moves that gave his comment real weight, and what it all means for anyone holding either name heading into the rest of the year.
Also read: Jim Cramer noticed something odd about the stock market
Cramer made the comment live on CNBC's Squawk on the Street on September 28, after watching a demonstration of Meta's (META) new AI shopping capability. "I'm an Amazon guy, but maybe I shouldn't be. This seemed impressive," he said, speaking as a shopper describing his own buying habits rather than making a stock call.
The timing gave the remark unusual weight. Meta shares had climbed roughly 24% over the prior month. Amazon fell roughly 8% over the same stretch. Investors were already debating which company was winning the fight for online shoppers before Cramer weighed in.

Halle Berry spent Sunday with her son, Maceo, before asking a Los Angeles judge to restore the parenting arrangement she previously shared with ex-husband Olivier Martinez. Her request, filed Monday, Oct. 5, seeks a return to their 2023 agreement for 50/50 custody, Entertainment Weekly reported.
A temporary restraining order issued Oct. 1 changed Berry's parenting time but allowed her to continue seeing her son during specified daytime hours. The order covered both Martinez and Maceo, according to records reviewed by PEOPLE.
Martinez sought protection after alleging that Berry physically attacked Maceo during a Sept. 26 dispute. Her attorney, Marina Beck, denied his account and called the filing "entirely meritless and deliberately misleading."
Berry, 60, was accompanied on the Oct. 4 visit by her fiancé, musician Van Hunt. They spent time together one day before Maceo's 13th birthday.
An eyewitness told PEOPLE that Berry chatted with Maceo at a Los Angeles Sky Zone before he joined an indoor soccer game. She and Hunt watched from nearby. When a fan approached for a selfie, Berry declined because she was spending time with her child. TMZ also published BACKGRID footage of the trio shopping at Best Buy that day.

MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, put dozens of strangers through one of his outrageous tests: How long can people stay in a grocery store to win $250,000? One contestant, Juan Garcia, managed to do it and took home far more than he bargained for after spending over 200 days in the store.
Back in April, MrBeast uploaded a video to his channel ******* led "Last to Leave Grocery Store, Wins $250,000," and in the months since, the video racked up over 200 million views.
At the start of the video, MrBeast tells his audience he just bought a grocery store and uses the store's intercom to announce that the last person to leave wins the $250,000 prize pot (kept in a comically large gold shopping cart). Some shoppers immediately left with a bounty of groceries that MrBeast told everyone were free; others began to strategize, building forts and stockpiling food.
After 67 days, with only four contestants left, MrBeast decided to shake things up and gave them an ultimatum: If they decided to stay, he'd restock the entire grocery store, and the four of them had to eat all the groceries – if they were able to do so, they could split a $1,000,000 prize. They decided to stay, and the video ended on a cliffhanger, leaving fans wondering where the new video would be for months.
Today, MrBeast and his team finally released the second part, ******* led "Eat Everything In A Grocery Store Win $1,000,000."

An Australian woman went viral after sharing a video of an unusually pristine frozen food section at her local supermarket. The clip showcased rows of products stacked with near-perfect uniformity, with the meticulous organization extending across multiple freezers and different types of frozen goods.
Sarah Mae Ahern, or sarahmaeahern on Instagram, is an Australian musician and content creator whose posts primarily focus on her music career, along with occasional glimpses into life with her husband Alex and their child.
Ahern's breakout viral video, however, came from an unexpected trip to the supermarket. While grocery shopping with her husband, the pair encountered a frozen food section where seemingly every item had been arranged perfectly in place.
They filmed the display and shared it online, where the video amassed nearly 11 million views, more than 610,000 likes and roughly 7,500 comments over the following three months.
"We are looking at how perfectly stacked everything is in this freezer section," Alex says, while Ahern films him as she laughs, before she pans over to said freezers, which display frozen desserts, pastries and ice cream, every product in it neatly organized.

MASSILLON − Fans of actor Jim Belushi exploded into applause when he arrived inside the Bloom Cannabis dispensary.
Admirers chanted his name as he climbed atop a table triumphantly: "Jim! Jim! Jim!" He was welcomed like a conquering hero of cannabis.
While the 72-year-old is known as a funnyman on screen, he's also in the cannabis business as the owner and operator of Belushi's Farm in Oregon.
Belushi was a special guest Oct. 1 of Bloom Cannabis, which also has locations in Akron, Athens, Columbus, Painesville, Seven Mile and Maryland. Founded in 2015 along the Rogue River in Southern Oregon, Belushi's Farm produces cannabis products in Ohio by Wondergrove.
Hundreds showed up at the Massillon dispensary and retail outlet, with a line stretching along the sidewalk in the shopping plaza on Federal Avenue NW.

Credit card companies are racing to claim a place at the checkout when AI agents start shopping on behalf of consumers—even as shoppers remain skeptical of letting bots spend their money.
Mastercard rolled out a payment option Thursday that lets people give an AI agent a virtual card and allow it to buy things online without checking in before each purchase. Cardholders can limit how much it spends, restrict which retailers it buys from, or require approval before checkout.
"This is a land grab for infrastructure standards," Phil Bruno, chief strategy and growth officer at payments company ACI Worldwide, told Fortune. "If they set the standards for agentic commerce, they can keep the commerce in their environments for decades to come."
Rival Visa partnered with Alchemy earlier this year and has also announced its own AI shopping and payment product, Visa Intelligent Commerce, which the company says is still being deployed. Similarly, Meta has Muse, which can search for products and navigate checkout, but presents the purchase for the user's final approval.
It seems, though, that shoppers appear far more interested in using AI to find a deal than letting it pay. Just 7% of U.S. and U.K. consumers surveyed who buy fashion items said they would allow an AI ***** istant to make purchases without approval under predefined conditions, according to research commissioned by ACI Worldwide. More than half said they were uncomfortable allowing AI to purchase on their behalf.

Choosing the right mortgage lender could save you thousands of dollars. Shopping for one should be one the first steps you take when buying a house.
Comparing lenders and lining up preapprovals early gives you some benchmarks to work from, and when your real estate agent recommends lenders, you'll have a better sense of whether they're offering a good deal. Plus, having preapprovals in hand lets buyers and agents know you're serious.
Real estate agents typically have a roster of recommended lenders, often built on years of repeat business. "Choosing a lender is not just about obtaining financing," says Matthew Martinez, a California real estate broker. "It is about choosing one of the most important members of the transaction team."
Agents vet lenders to add to their networks, and they know what separates a good one from a bad one. Here are the four questions they say you should ask any lender you're considering.
A lender may offer a special program based on your profession, income or location that can make the mortgage more affordable.

One of the biggest stories in markets this year has been how stubborn inflation remains. Geopolitical tension in the Middle East spurred the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in March, which rose 3.4% year over year in August. However, even before this conflict, the CPI was still well above the Federal Reserve's 2% target.
The market is starting to believe that inflation will stick around for a lot longer than initially expected. This could explain why Treasury yields, particularly for 10-, 20-, and 30-year terms, have risen significantly in the past 12 months. The **** umption is that interest rates will stay elevated for an extended time, at least compared to most of the 2010s.

Income investors looking to allocate capital are now faced with a crucial decision, one that might have been easier to make in the past. Is it smart to put money in dividend stalwarts, such as Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO) and Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG)? Or should U.S. government bonds be on your shopping list?
As of this writing on the morning of Sept. 16, the 10-year Treasury yields just under 5%. At the same time, investors can earn more than 5.3% on 20-year and 30-year bonds. For the sake of this **** ysis, I believe it's best to focus on the 10-year Treasury, as this is a reasonable holding period that's also comparable to long-term stock investing.

On September 9, 2026, Reuters reported that Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META) rolled out Muse, a long-touted AI agent that can autonomously send emails, sell a car, and book travel on a person's behalf, despite internal concerns among Meta's own employees that the technology mismanages access to sensitive personal data. The agent is modeled on the open-source system OpenClaw and available initially only in the U.S. through a dedicated app or WhatsApp. It is designed to access apps across email, calendar, payments, health, shopping, and smart-home categories as the centerpiece of CEO Mark Zuckerberg's "personal superintelligence" strategy.
Muse could give Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META) a new revenue stream beyond advertising by turning its massive user base into paying AI customers. The company launched Muse with a free tier and $20 and $100 monthly subscription options for heavier users. The agent can handle tasks such as sending emails, selling items, and booking travel. It gives Meta a direct way to monetize AI capabilities and diversify its revenue base.
The new AI agent could help Meta generate returns from its enormous AI infrastructure investment. Meta expects AI infrastructure spending to exceed $130 billion this year, increasing the importance of monetizing its AI capabilities. Meta can distribute Muse through WhatsApp and eventually connect it with smart glasses. It gives the company multiple ways to expand usage and build a broader consumer AI ecosystem.
Meta has strengthened Muse's safeguards before launching the product. It could support wider use. Meta delayed the launch from April to improve security and added an autonomous safety agent that monitors Muse's actions. Users can also control which apps Muse can access, while Meta plans an encrypted version. It gives the company a path to address security concerns as it expands the product.
Muse's security failures could damage consumer trust in a product that needs access to sensitive information. Internal testing uncovered an incident in which Muse exposed private iCloud photos. Employees also reported other security concerns. Such failures could discourage users from connecting email, payment, health, and other personal accounts, limiting subscription adoption and Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META)'s potential revenue from Muse.

1006 ET – U.S. pending home sales fell 3.5% week-over-week to their lowest level in almost three years, Redfin says. Declining homebuying demand is giving buyers breathing room. It means less competition and more room to negotiate for the house hunters who are still shopping. New listings fell slightly, -0.5%, from a week earlier, but they’re still up 1.5% year-over-year, and there are still hundreds of thousands more home sellers than buyers in the market. More homes on the market equals less pressure on buyers to rush into a decision or pay more than they want. Home-sale prices are holding steady. The median home-sale price rose 2% year-over-year. That stability means prices aren’t soaring, and that sellers aren’t in immediate danger of home values dropping. (chris.wackwsj.com)

Amazon Business is now a $60B operation serving 11 million customers worldwide. In this FreightWaves Today interview, Amazon Business exec Daniel Silverfield breaks down what that scale means for procurement, supplier consolidation, same-day grocery delivery and AI-driven savings. The big takeaway: business buyers want fewer suppliers, better visibility and less waste in purchasing. Silverfield explains how Amazon Business is pitching exactly that to everyone from small companies to Fortune 100s.
Amazon Business has hit $60 billion in annualized gross sales and now serves 11 million customers worldwide, with 1.8 million organizations added this year alone — a growth rate that puts it on par with a Fortune 100 company if it were standalone. The platform, which launched roughly a decade ago after Amazon noticed businesses already shopping on amazon.com, is increasingly central to how companies across sectors manage procurement, from office supplies to same-day groceries.
The scale matters to shippers, carriers, and brokers because Amazon Business is driving a fundamental shift in B2B purchasing behavior — consolidating supplier pools, centralizing data, and moving procurement from quarterly reporting cycles to an always-on, AI-powered model. Every order that migrates to the platform is one fewer touchpoint for traditional distributors and one more shipment flowing through Amazon's own logistics network.
Daniel Silverfield, head of value and selection for Amazon Business, said the platform saved customers $880 million on Prime free shipping last year and $1 billion through business-specific discounts. The company added 30% new items year over year and recently launched same-day grocery delivery across 2,300 U.S. cities in the first half of this year, a capability customers had been requesting for some time.
"The big shift that we're seeing is that people are moving to a continuous, always-on, conversational-powered procurement journey where agents may be looking for the best price while they're asleep, maybe negotiating on their behalf while they're asleep, and then surfacing to them the best product to buy," said Silverfield.

Interested in Walmart Inc.? Here are five stocks we like better.
Target trades at roughly 15 times earnings with a 3% yield, presenting value relative to Walmart and Costco ahead of the holiday season.
Aggressive price cuts on over 10,000 items and October Deal Days discounts of up to 40% could drive market-beating Q3 and holiday results.
Dividend growth exceeding 50 years, buyback capacity, and heavy institutional ownership near 80% help limit downside risk into 2026.
Believe it or not, the holiday shopping season is here, so it's time to consider the best plays. As it stands, seasonal sales growth is expected to accelerate year over year to 4.55% to 4.8%, topping $1.7 trillion for the first time, underpinned as always by e-commerce. Digital sales are expected to top 8% seasonally and may outpace expectations as AI adoption accelerates. Hyperscalers, business services, and merchants are embedding AI throughout the digital retail stack, and it is resonating with consumers. An estimated 25% to 30% of shoppers say they will use AI this season for help with research, price comparisons, and budgeting.

Hyperscalers, business services, and merchants are embedding AI throughout the digital retail stack, and it is resonating with consumers. An estimated 25% to 30% of shoppers say they will use AI this season for help with research, price comparisons, and budgeting.

Amazon raised minimum starting pay for its U.S. full-time core operations employees to $20 an hour on Wednesday, a $1-per-hour increase for front-line workers who sort, pack, and transport orders.
Amazon said the typical hourly rate for those workers climbs to nearly $24, and that when benefits are counted, total compensation comes out to more than $32 an hour. Amazon said its minimum starting pay has risen more than 17% over the past three years.
The announcement arrives as Amazon approaches the peak holiday shopping season. According to The Wall Street Journal, Amazon hired 250,000 full-time, part-time, and seasonal workers in advance of last year's holiday period.
Along with the pay increase, Amazon announced two new benefits. Beginning Oct. 1, all U.S. Amazon employees will receive a grocery discount — 10% off eligible groceries and everyday essentials on Amazon.com and Whole Foods Market online, and 20% off in-store at Whole Foods. The discount can be combined with existing Prime member discounts, the company said.
Amazon also said it is launching a banking benefit called Day 1 Financial, through which qualified employees and their families can obtain a lifelong membership in First Tech Federal Credit Union. The benefit includes accounts with no overdraft fees, no monthly maintenance fees, and no account minimums, as well as access to credit cards, auto loans, and home loans for those who qualify. The company said the rollout will start in late 2026, with broad availability expected in 2027.

Walmart and SCAN Health Plan announced a partnership on Wednesday to offer co-branded Medicare Advantage plans in two states, targeting a pool of more than two million Medicare enrollees.
The plans, pending regulatory approval, may include pharmacy, vision, food, and over-the-counter benefits, the companies said. Open enrollment for Medicare Advantage begins Oct. 15, according to MarketWatch.
A central feature of the partnership is Walmart's Everyday Health Signals platform, an AI tool designed to provide personalized nutrition and wellness guidance based on members' shopping preferences and self-reported wellness goals. The companies said they plan to make that capability available to participating plan members as part of broader coaching and wellness support.
"By combining Walmart's technology capabilities and consumer retail expertise with SCAN's Medicare product experience, we have an opportunity to develop products that translate those insights into meaningful support that helps members make more informed choices about their health and well-being," said Zack Myers, national general manager of SCAN Health Plan, in a statement.
Walmart Group Director for Consumer Health and Data Solutions Pravene Nath said the collaboration is distinct because of Walmart's role in customers' everyday lives. "Because customers regularly turn to Walmart for groceries and other everyday essentials, we have an opportunity for those who choose to participate, to use insights from their shopping experiences to make nutrition guidance more relevant and actionable," Nath said in a statement.

An AI ****** istant that orders your groceries and renews subscriptions on its own might hit the market soon.
Visa (V) and Mastercard (MA) want to make sure that payment still runs through their networks when that happens.
This week, the two card giants said they are working with global fintech Ant International to build a shared way to identify and trust AI shopping agents.
For anyone holding the two stocks or considering them, this plan gives a hint on how both companies could grow in the future.
It also raises a fair question. If software does your spending, who makes sure it spends wisely?

On September 10, 1-800-Flowers.com Inc. (NASDAQ:FLWS) reported fiscal 2026 results that read like a company still finding its footing after a hard year. Full year revenue fell 10.8% to $1.5 billion, and the fourth quarter alone dropped 12.9% to $293.1 million, as consumers stayed selective with discretionary spending on gifts and gourmet food. Buried under those declines, though, is a different story: inventory shrank, free cash flow improved by $55 million, and the company hit a two-year cost savings target a full year early. The question now is whether that discipline can outrun the sales slide.
1-800-Flowers spent fiscal 2026 tearing down the walls between its brands. Instead of separate teams running each brand in silos, the company shifted to functional teams built around marketing, merchandising, and the digital shopping experience, with one team now acting as store manager for every website. That shift already shows up in products: the floral business combined its florist-fulfilled and direct-ship merchandising teams, so the same popular arrangements are available either way, instead of competing against itself on one landing page. Harry & David rolled out a redesigned, mobile-first website with AI-powered search that is currently in A/B testing, and several low-traffic standalone sites were folded into harryanddavid.com to concentrate traffic rather than split it.
The financial discipline behind that reorganization is real. The company reached its $50 million cost savings run rate a full year ahead of schedule and has already lined up another $15 million to $20 million in savings for fiscal 2027, with the full benefit landing in fiscal 2028. That, combined with tighter working capital management, pushed free cash flow up $55 million year over year and cut inventory to $153 million from $177 million. Average order value rose 5.5%, third-party marketplace sales through Amazon, Walmart, and DoorDash are growing at double-to-triple-digit rates and are already contribution margin positive, and BloomNet grew 1.9% on the back of local delivery partnerships with apps like DoorDash and Instacart.
The rest of the story is bleaker. Total transactions fell 17.6% for the year, and the fourth quarter's decline was broad-based: consumer floral and gifts dropped 13.4% to $182.8 million as the company pulled back on promotional discounting, and gourmet foods and gift baskets fell 15.4% to $85.8 million, a decline made worse by the timing of Easter. Adjusted EBITDA for the year collapsed to $2.9 million from $29.2 million, and adjusted gross margin slipped 110 basis points to 38%. Even the fourth quarter's 34.7% gross margin leaned on a one-time $7 million tariff refund.

For most of your adult life, you have decided which card comes out of your wallet. Maybe it is the one with the best cashback. Maybe it is the one on top.
That decision is starting to move to software.
More than one in 10 online shoppers will routinely use AI agents to shop and pay by 2030, according to a report published Sept. 8, 2026 by Mastercard (MA). That works out to more than 300 million people worldwide.
The number reads like a distant projection. Recent US data suggests the behavior is already further along than that.
The report, ******* led "A short history of the future of shopping and payments," pairs original consumer research with predictions from four futurists in the US, Europe and Asia, according to Mastercard.

Consumers just can't catch a break. According to Friday's Consumer Price Index report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), inflation is holding steady as surging gas prices empty shoppers' wallets.
But that's not all. Year-over-year data about household debt paints a dim picture of the state of consumer finances. However, this week's home sales report offers a silver lining, showing it might be a good time to buy a house.

Brian McKnight is publicly celebrating one of his sons again—but this time, the birthday tribute is for his stepson Jack.
The R&B singer posted a video documenting an extravagant birthday outing for Jack, the son of his wife, Leilani Mendoza, whom McKnight has helped raise and openly calls his own. In the clip, McKnight takes the second-year law student shopping for a pickup truck of his choice while delivering an emotional tribute to the young man.
"Every once in a while, you're blessed with a child that becomes everything you could have ever hoped for and more," McKnight said. "That's Jack."

While I buy most of my clothes from Amazon, when I needed a new wardrobe for a video shoot, my wife and I went on a tour of local retailers.
Since I needed shirts that would hold up well in hot weather, we went to Target and Bass Pro Shops, and as much as I don't like trying clothes on, I took advantage of the stores' dressing rooms.
I'm not alone in wanting to try things on before I buy.
"The opportunity to try on clothes and test products is a major driver of store traffic, with 52% of consumers surveyed saying they go to stores instead of shopping online because of this. References to trying on/testing products surged 32% YoY on average at retailers and were up 58% at beauty retailers," according to a Chatmeter report published last year.
People, me included, like seeing what they're buying before committing to a purchase.

Cancel the tee booked at the Belfry, rearrange the trip to Cadbury World and abort the shopping jolly to the Bullring.
The reason? Pakistan debutant Razaullah and 'Razball'.
England's bowlers were thwarted by a Pakistan side who mixed batting belligerence with brilliance and instead of a Saturday off must reconvene at Edgbaston for day four.
The brilliance was provided by Razaullah, who produced a dizzying knock to breathe life into the third Test and lift the spirits of Pakistan supporters everywhere. A new hero, a new hope.
Bazball might be on its way out, but has Birmingham might just witnessed the birth of new phenomenon during two hours of unbridled chaos during which he made a stunning 81 off 63 **** coming in at number nine.
