SINGAPORE/HONG KONG, July 27 (Reuters) - Investors are expected to scrutinise whether Shein can justify the $40 billion to $50 billion valuation it is seeking in a Hong Kong initial public offering after a prospectus filed on Sunday showed slowing growth ‌and a sharp decline in profitability.
Revenue rose 8% to $41.8 billion in 2025, but net income fell 39% to $2.06 billion. In the first ‌quarter of this year, the fast fashion retailer swung to a $99 million loss, the filing showed.
While the quarterly loss partly reflected a $328 million fair-value charge on convertible redeemable preferred shares following an accounting change, slowing revenue growth and weaker core earnings underscore the company's mounting challenges.
"Institutional investors on the HKEX (Hong Kong Stock Exchange) will ... zero in on the 2.9% operating margin," said Winston Ma, executive director of the Global Public Investment Funds Forum and a former managing director at the China Investment Corporation.

Gold (GC=F) August futures opened at $4,074.60 per troy ounce on Thursday, July 23, 2026, down 1.9% from Wednesday's closing price. The price of gold moved up this morning, trading at $4,086.60 as of 8:08 a.m. ET.
The gold price closed above $4,100 Wednesday and opened lower on Thursday. Two opposing forces are keeping the gold price in a tight range. Investors are weighing the potential for higher interest rates against the likelihood of broader geopolitical and economic instability prompted by the Iran war.
On Wednesday, the U.S. House of Representatives approved up to $95 billion in funding for the war, aid to farmers, and parts of the SAVE America Act. The plan still needs Senate approval, but the move signals support for ongoing activity in the Middle East — where the war may be at an inflection point. Yemen's Houthi rebels are now targeting Saudi Arabian oil tankers in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, threatening to disrupt another critical shipping lane.
The potential for higher interest rates tends to encourage lower gold prices, while global unrest can stimulate safe-haven demand for the precious metal.

Soon-to-be former Amazon (AMZN) Web Services (AWS) veteran Dave Brown will be joining Facebook parent Meta (META) to bolster the latter's cloud ambitions. Brown, who was with AWS for 19 years, will leave his post in July, according to internal communications at AWS.
Notable broker Wedbush has given this a thumbs up and has opined that Meta's desire to be a material player in the cloud industry is serious. In a note to clients, Matt Bryson of the firm said, "This addition builds on the narrative that Meta is serious in building out its own AI cloud offering (though ostensibly Dave Brown's expertise could be used to support the build-out of infrastructure for internal Meta use as well)."

The total surpassed $120 billion in the first six months of the year, a 20% jump over H1 2025, the previous record, according to Evercore.

That's a switch-up from years prior, when LP-led transactions accounted for the largest share of deal volume, driven by favorable pricing and muted distributions, per Evercore's data. Such deals involve acquiring stakes in private funds, typically offloaded by institutional investors.
In H1 2026, single ***** et continuation vehicles accounted for $34 billion of deal value, representing over half of the GP-led volume in the period. Evercore attributed this to sponsors wanting to extend ownership of their highest-conviction ***** ets.
