If you're looking for safe ways to grow your money and protect your savings, a high-yield savings account (HYSA) can be a great option. However, it's important to be aware that there are certain instances when you could lose money. So if you plan on opening a high-yield savings account, be sure you understand how to protect your principal and earned interest.
High-yield savings accounts are like traditional savings accounts except that they offer above-average interest rates. These accounts are available from banks and credit unions, particularly online financial institutions. The higher interest rate means you earn more on your deposited funds over time, allowing your savings to grow faster.
If you open an account with a federally insured financial institution, your savings account deposits are protected in case the institution fails. With banks, deposits are protected by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) up to $250,000 per institution, per depositor, per ownership category. With credit unions, deposits are similarly insured by the National Credit Union Administration.

For Middle Eastern oil producers, there are fewer and fewer places to hide from Iranian violence. And because of that, oil prices are almost certain to stay high.

A fresh reading on inflation showed monthly prices rose more than expected in August, increasing the likelihood the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates next week.
A rebound to oil at $100 per barrel also complicates the picture.
Stripping out volatile food and energy prices — the way the Fed likes to scrutinize underlying inflation — the Consumer Price Index rose 0.3% month over month, compared with expectations for 0.2%. The year-over-year rate was in line with expectations for 2.4% and down a tenth of a percentage point from July. On a headline basis, CPI rose 3.4% in August, in line with expectations, and 0.4% month over month.
"The upside surprise to core CPI in August means the Fed looks set to hike next week," said Stephen Brown, North America chief economist for Capital Economics.
Markets are now betting on a 90% chance of a rate hike at Wednesday's Fed policy meeting, according to CME FedWatch.

Aryna Sabalenka cut a forlorn figure as she sat staring into ****** e following a painful defeat by Elena Rybakina in the US Open final.
As Rybakina celebrated her third Grand Slam ****** le following a 6-4 5-7 6-2 win in New York, cameras pictured Sabalenka deep in thought as she sat in silence with her team.
At a tournament which has delivered so much success for two-time champion Sabalenka, the disappointment the 28-year-old has faced in the last week leaves her with plenty to ponder.
Not only has Rybakina replaced Sabalenka as the world number one after 99 weeks at the summit, she has now ended the Belarusian's 20-match winning streak at Flushing Meadows.
Defeat also means Sabalenka will end the year without winning a Grand Slam ****** le for the first time since 2022.

Dave Ramsey told caller Hazel her secret teen payments aren't a money problem but a marriage problem requiring full financial transparency and counseling.
Secret spending makes joint wealth-building impossible. Hiding $400 monthly from a spouse means losing its compounding potential in a Roth IRA or 529.
Transparency alone flips the outcome: a joint kid-support budget lets both spouses plan together, while secret contributions force decisions based on false information.

On the September 9 episode of The Ramsey Show, a caller named Hazel admitted she has been slipping money to her three teenagers from a prior marriage, quietly, from her own account, because her husband of almost seven years refuses to help pay for their sports and school costs. Dave Ramsey did not reach for a spreadsheet. He told her: "You don't have a combining money problem and you don't have a who pays for what problem. You have a marriage problem."

ChargePoint (CHPT) surged 39% YTD to $9.20, with the entire gain compressed into the past month alone.
Peers Blink Charging (BLNK) and EVgo (EVGO) are down 18% and 53% YTD, leaving ChargePoint's rally entirely without peer support.
Breaking $10 requires the same concentrated buyers to keep absorbing supply, and no broad charging market recovery will carry it there on its own.

High-performance computing is currently undergoing a massive generational shift. Deciding between Astera Labs Inc (NASDAQ:ALAB) and Applied Materials Inc (NASDAQ:AMAT) means choosing between a fast-growing connectivity specialist and an established ******* an of manufacturing equipment.
Astera Labs focuses on the internal plumbing of data centers, providing chips that move data between processors. Applied Materials builds the actual machines that make those chips possible. While both benefit from artificial intelligence, they occupy very different rungs on the technology ladder.
Astera Labs sells high-speed connectivity hardware and software designed for AI-heavy data centers. Its primary products include PCIe and Ethernet solutions that help hyperscale cloud providers manage massive data workloads. In its latest annual report, filed for the period ending December 31, 2025, the company noted that one end customer represented more than 70% of its revenue. Customer concentration like this adds a layer of risk to the business.
In FY 2025, revenue reached nearly $853 million, which is an increase of approximately 115% over the prior year. This growth resulted in a net income of roughly $219 million, compared to a net loss in the previous fiscal year. The company recorded a net margin of close to 26% during this period. Such expansion is notable among semiconductor stocks catering to the cloud market.
The company carries no debt, resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of 0.0x. This metric compares total debt to shareholder equity to show how a firm finances its ******* ets. As of its December 2025 balance sheet, the so-called current ratio was nearly 10.2x, indicating a strong ability to cover short-term debts. Free cash flow was roughly $282 million. Note that stock-based compensation represented just about 50% of operating cash flow, which inflates reported cash generation since SBC is a non-cash expense added back in the cash flow statement.

All eyes are on the Fed with another higher than expected reading for core inflation. Jeff Klingelhofer, CFA, Managing Director, Portfolio Manager & Senior Research **** yst, Securitized **** ets at Aristotle Pacific, talks with host Brad Roth on this episode of Behind the Ticker about why the new Fed Chair stepping into an environment of high inflation matters for investors and bonds, and what that means for how the firm is positioning their strategies that include three new ETFs, the Aristotle Core Plus Income ETF (ARCP), the Aristotle Multi-Sector Income ETF (ARMS), and the Aristotle Short Term Income ETF (SDUR).
You can also watch this conversation here or on our YouTube, as well as find it on any of your preferred podcast streaming platforms.
A non-traditional path to fixed income: Jeff Klingelhofer started at PIMCO, moved through Tokyo and London, then took an unexpected detour into a five-person hedge fund during his Chicago MBA. That experience shaped his career trajectory, from building Thornburg's taxable fixed income desk from scratch to joining Aristotle Pacific in 2024.
The relative value philosophy: Instead of chasing yield by taking more risk within a single **** et class, Klingelhofer compares opportunities across all of fixed income, including corporates, ABS, CLOs, bank loans, and more. His go-to example: in 2020, an American Airlines corporate bond and its aircraft-backed EETC priced identically, but a month later one traded at 27 cents on the dollar while the other held at 65 cent, proof that siloed desks miss cross-market mispricing.
Three ETFs, one philosophy: Aristotle Pacific's new suite of SDUR (short-term income), ARCP (core plus), and ARMS (multi-sector income) applies this relative value lens across the risk spectrum, each targeting a different level of duration and credit exposure. All three aim to outperform passive benchmarks through active security selection rather than added risk.

The economy, inflation and how those forces could impact the lives of Americans were front and center over the past week. Trips to the grocery store and gas station are more painful than they were last year, and rising costs are impacting the decisions of both households and businesses.
Here's a snapshot of prominent economic data and news that occurred over the past week and what it potentially means for you.
U.S. inflation accelerated last month as gas prices spiked in the wake of renewed fighting in the Middle East, underscoring the affordability challenges that are top of mind for many voters as midterm elections near.
The Labor Department said Friday that the consumer price index rose 3.4% last month compared with a year ago, the same as in July. But on a monthly basis, inflation accelerated, as costs jumped 0.4% from July to August, up from an increase of just 0.1% the previous month.
The figures show that inflation remains stubbornly elevated, more than five years after prices first soared as the economy emerged from the COVID pandemic. Persistent inflation has presented a major challenge for the inflation-fighters at the Federal Reserve and has soured many voters on the Trump administration's economic management.

Gold can act as a hedge against inflation, but it doesn't reliably rise whenever inflation does. Some investors use gold to help preserve purchasing power as prices rise, but inflation is only one of several factors that can influence gold prices.
If you've researched gold as an investment, you've probably come across financial experts ****** erting that gold is a hedge against inflation. Understanding what that actually means — and what it doesn't — can help put gold's role in an investment portfolio into perspective.
An inflation hedge is an investment or strategy intended to help offset the loss of purchasing power caused by rising prices.
As inflation rises, each dollar buys a little less than it did before. For example, imagine a cart of groceries that costs $100 today. If those same groceries cost $105 next year, your $100 no longer buys as much as it did before.

The New York Giants are completing their 53-man roster by signing wide recever/special teamer Dalen Cambre to the active roster from their practice squad, a source confirms. The move was initially reported by Art Stapleton.
The Giants had been carrying just 52 players after releasing wide receiver Darius Slayton earlier in the week.
Cambre, a former undrafted free agent, played in seven games almost exclusively on special teams for the Giants last season.
His presence means the Giants now have five wide receivers on their roster. They are also elevating wide receiver Braxton Berrios from the practice squad to be the punt returner and part of the kickoff unit, and linebacker Malik Harrison.

Being a successful college football program usually means the head coach will have to replace his coordinators fairly often. Dan Lanning has needed to do this at Oregon, and he had to fill both coordinator spots this past offseason. Tosh Lupoi went to Cal, and Will Stein went to Kentucky. After Oregon's 39-31 loss to Oklahoma State, it's clear that Will Stein meant more to Oregon than we all previously realized.
Oregon's offense did not improve from its first game to its second. That's a very alarming development for Dan Lanning. Not getting basic improvement out of his team shows that his new offensive coordinator, Drew Mehringer, is not performing at the needed standard.
Oregon had two delay-of-game penalties on a crucial fourth-quarter drive when trailing. That shows a lack of coaching. Drew Mehringer does not have firm command of his offense.
Dante Moore was good but not incredible last season. He delivered some huge clutch plays but went through cold spells. Will Stein was really skilled at teaching Moore how to learn from mistakes and evolve as a quarterback. Moore doesn't have Stein's wisdom to learn from this year. It is showing in Oregon's very inconsistent offense, which had just 65 total yards just before halftime.
Dan Lanning keeps going for it on fourth downs at Oregon. That's how he rolls. With a new offensive coordinator on staff, that risky approach now looks less effective. Lanning needs an elite offensive coordinator for his ultra-aggressive approach to work.

It remains to be seen how many there will be in 2026, but things can get confusing quick. So, in order not to get lost amid any potential movement, here is our handy up-to-date Patriots roster and depth chart.
Quarterback (3): Drake Maye (10), Tommy DeVito (16), Behren Morton (15)
Running back (3): Rhamondre Stevenson (38), TreVeyon Henderson (32), Corey Kiner (9)

WASHINGTON (AP) — Canada might seem an unlikely target for a U.S. trade war.
No country on Earth buys as much from the United States as its northern neighbor. For American farmers, Canada is second only to Mexico as an export market.
A North American trade pact — negotiated by President Donald Trump during his first term — means that most American products enter Canada duty-free. Rankings of the world's most open economies usually put Canada near the top.
But when Trump looks at Canada, he says, he sees a predator out to cheat the United States and strangle its industries.
America has been "ripped off for 50 years by Canada," the president declared Saturday when asked if he was considering pulling out of the three-way agreement he signed with the leaders of Canada and Mexico in late 2018.

A serious team requires serious stats by which they'll be evaluated. Over the last calendar year, the Chicago Bears have become a serious team led by a serious head coach in Ben Johnson and a serious quarterback in Caleb Williams. Which means that the world of ****** ytics in football will be more relevant for them in 2026 than we have perhaps seen in years past.
While not as robust (or widely utilized) as their counterparts in the baseball world, advanced stats have progressively become more relevant for the NFL and its players in recent years. Pro Football Focus is sort of a driver of this increase, and it's here that we begin our journey into this world.
PFF, as it's known colloquially, ****** igns a grade for every action that a player completes on the field. These grades occur on a scale from +2 to -2, with zero representing the average in between the two ends of the spectrum. These grades don't just occur in a vacuum, either. Positional context and the game situation itself are each taken into account as part of where a given play lands on the scale.

Arsenal may have just won the Premier League and reached the final of the Champions League, which means the club has been making significant amounts of money in recent campaigns.
However, the Gunners are also keen to ensure that they have their house in order financially, and the club has reportedly employed BCG to audit its finances in a bid to cut out waste.
Arsenal are one of the clubs that laid off staff during the COVID pandemic, and they also sacked their scouts and reorganised that part of the club despite the many successes it had achieved previously.
They came under significant criticism for that decision, and the Gunners will continue to do what they can to ensure the team remains the main focus of their operations.
The Daily Mail reports that BCG managing director Jean Paul Petranca is leading the review, and it has caused staff to become annoyed and shocked.

Over time NFL teams tend to develop identities, and they often stay the same through different coaches, different quarterbacks and different front office regimes. For the Pittsburgh Steelers, their calling card has long been physical defense and getting to the quarterback paired with a potent run game.
That dynamic is at least half true going into the 2026 season. They ranked near the bottom of the NFL in rushing yards last year but remain an excellent pass-rushing team, finishing sixth with 48 last year.
Outside of the trenches, Pittsburgh's best skill player is former Seattle Seahawks star DK Metcalf, a rare athlete who the Atlanta Falcons are going to need to contain if they're going to upset the Steelers this week.
Last season Metcalf posted 59 catches, a team-high 860 receiving yards and six touchdowns - which was less than his usual production in Seattle, but it would be a mistake to write Metcalf off. The Seahawks' playoff loss to the 49ers a few years ago proves he can thrash even elite defenses, going off for 10 catches, 136 yards and two touchdowns.
For one thing, Metcalf is bigger, stronger and faster than any defensive back that Atlanta can put on the field. That means the Falcons have to be smarter about defending him.

Sourav Ganguly is widely regarded as one of the most influential captains in Indian cricket history. During his career, "Dada" was known for several memorable moments on and off the field, from making Steve Waugh wait at the toss and celebrating shirtless on the Lord's balcony to clashes with coaches Greg Chappell and John Buchanan, arguments with Shane Warne, and refusing to walk after Graeme Smith claimed a catch.

But former Australia captain Michael Clarke has shared another story that shows a lighter side of Ganguly.

In his book Eleven Gods and a Billion Indians, author Boria Majumdar quotes Clarke recalling an incident involving Ganguly and Ricky Ponting during a toss in India, although Clarke admits he does not remember which match it was.

"One of Clarke's favourite anecdotes goes thus: Ganguly and Ricky Ponting were out at the toss during one of the matches in India — Clarke doesn't specifically remember which one — and Ponting had the coin in hand. Just as he flipped the coin, Ganguly, if Clarke is to be believed, said, 'Head-Tail'.

"'Trust me, mate, that's what Ricky told me,' Clarke says, cracking up. 'Ricky said he couldn't fathom what had happened with Dada having said Head-Tail. [And, apparently it was said at the speed of lightning.] It had taken Ricky a second or two to come to grips with the situation and by that time the coin had come down. Ganguly just picked it up and said to Ricky, "We'll bat" and walked off. India had won the toss and were batting. Ricky did not really know what to do or say and all he did was tell us in the dressing room exactly what happened at the toss," Clarke was quoted as saying in the book.

Clarke is not sure which match the incident took place in.

According to available records, Ganguly won five tosses against Ricky Ponting, and all of those came outside India; twice during the 2003 World Cup and three times in the 2003-04 VB Series. That means Clarke may have mixed up the venue while recalling the story, as Ponting would have been the one calling the toss if the match had been played in India.

Clarke, however, clearly states that he does not remember the exact match in which the incident happened.

The Dodgers on Friday called up phenom Josue De Paula, their top prospect, and placed Shohei Ohtani on the 15-day injured list. Those were the expected moves, and took care of the active-roster component. But to make room on the 40-man roster for De Paula, the Dodgers transferred left-hander Eric Lauer to the 60-day injured list.
Lauer had been on the 15-day injured list with left elbow inflammation since September 2, one day after allowing seven runs in three innings in his worst start since joining the Dodgers. Moving him to the 60-day injured list means Lauer won't be eligible to pitch in the postseason. His 2026 campaign has concluded.
The 31-year-old left-hander was acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays on May 17 after Lauer was designated for **** ignment by Toronto, with the Jays paying all but $600,000 of his remaining $3.1 million salary the rest of the way. The Dodgers won each of Lauer's first nine appearances with the team, a stretch in which he did not allow more than three runs in any outing.
Lauer had two blow-up starts — six runs in four innings on August 5 at Wrigley Field, September 1 at home vs. Cardinals — but mostly did everything that was asked of him, lasting at least six innings in seven of his 13 outings, including 11 starts. In all, Lauer had a 4.50 ERA and 4.48 xERA in 72 innings with the Dodgers. Combining his numbers with the Blue Jays, Lauer on the season had a 5.23 ERA and 5.03 xERA in 22 games, including 18 starts, with 72 strikeouts and 35 walks in 108 1/3 innings, with 26 home runs allowed.
Ohtani was officially placed on the injured list with right biceps inflammation, which is what manager Dave Roberts mentioned Ohtani aggravated on a swing in Monday's game against the Cincinnati Reds, the only one of an eight-game stretch in which Ohtani played.

It's finally here. Time to bring the early looks to the table. This is Week 1 for everyone, which means that the players' prices were established in July; take advantage of that. We know (for the most part) who will be the value picks and who is undervalued; take advantage of that.
And as far as players go, we are on the same footing with the sharks. Everyone is going off of what they think will happen because of last year's stats, but no one really knows. What we do know is that, historically, since the NFL has gone to three games in the preseason, Week 1 games typically go under their projected point total about 60% of the time; take advantage of that.
It's Week 1; don't be afraid of the chalk plays (yes, talking about you, Jahmyr Gibbs) and don't be afraid to get different. Let's get going.
There are 12 games on the main slate this week. You have to decide if you are playing: a) cash games or tournaments; and b) if you are selecting your player pool by game environment or matchups, or a combination of both.
When you rely on game environment, your player pool strategy is taking into consideration the complete context of the game. You are considering the pace of the game and the overall scoring potential of specific matchups.

COLONIE - The Christian Brothers Academy football team waited a long time to get back on the field against Saratoga Springs. Friday night, the Brothers held a seven-point lead in the fourth quarter when CBA coach Bobby Burns decided it was best to play keep away.
The Blue Streaks had just scored a touchdown on a fourth-down play and CBA was determined to run off the final 7:42 off the clock. That meant going for it on a fourth-and-5 play from the CBA 36-yard line. The Brothers managed to pick up the first down as senior quarterback Matt Kowalski connected with junior receiver Jack Hulett for five yards. CBA proceeded to run off the remaining time to register a 21-14 Class AA victory.
"I had my coaches yelling in my ear the whole night that we could run that," Burns said regarding the fourth-down gamble. "I was a little concerned about (Saratoga Springs junior defensive end Cam Toomey) on the edge with him getting a hand on it and swatting it down. If we don't get that, it changes a lot of the game."
"It definitely means a lot that the coaches have trust in us," Hulett said. "We work hard and they trust we will get the job done."
CBA entered the Section 2 Class AA playoffs in 2025 as the No. 1 seed with the program seeking a fifth consecutive sectional championship. Saratoga Springs emerged with a 14-13 victory in a driving rainstorm at Colonie High School. In the rematch, the Brothers (2-0 overall, 1-0 Class AA) prevailed in a game where the two teams combined for 26 penalties.

Gold doesn't rise or fall because of a single economic event. Its price reflects the decisions of millions of investors, central banks, manufacturers, jewelers, and others around the world. Those decisions are shaped by changing economic conditions and future expectations.
Understanding what drives the price of gold means learning how multiple forces interact. Sometimes they reinforce one another. Sometimes they pull in opposite directions. That's why different headlines can describe the same market move from different angles.
Every second the global gold market is open, buyers and sellers are negotiating a price — but they're not all buying gold for the same reason.
An investor may be looking to diversify a portfolio. A jewelry manufacturer may need gold for finished products. A technology company may use it in electronic components. A central bank may be increasing its reserves. Another investor may believe interest rates are about to fall.

Fall sports season is back, which means it's time for women's college volleyball. As always, one of the nation's top programs is ready to dominate — get ready for Nebraska to hit the court.
Even with a lethal core squad, the Huskers fell short of a ***** le last year, losing to eventual champions Texas A&M in the Elite Eight. Prior to the regional final, Nebraska had sat strongly at the top of the national polls as it won 33 consecutive matches.
But a curtain call is looming for this era of Nebraska volleyball, as many of the program's star players are heading into their senior year. Outside hitter Harper Murray, middle blocker Andi Jackson, setter Bergen Reilly and libero Laney Choboy will all have an extra sense of determination as they look to secure a national ***** le before graduating.
Nebraska ranked No. 1 in the preseason AVCA coaches poll. Can Dani Busboom-Kelly lead the Huskers to a ***** le in her second year at the helm?

Breakout loading. At least that's what the Dallas Cowboys hope after they inked tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford and receiver Ryan Flournoy to a pair of extensions this week. In a break from the norm, the Cowboys went out on a limb and played the speculation market. Channeling his inner oilman, owner Jerry Jones has put his money where his mouth is and bet big on breakouts.
In previous years, it was the Cowboys waiting until after a breakout was achieved before extensions were offered. Terence Steele was signed to a five-year, $82,500,000 deal after his breakout season in 2022. Jaylon Smith was regrettably signed to a five-year, $63,750,000 extension after his breakout season in 2018. And even Dak Prescott, Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland got signed after already establishing themselves high among the NFL hierarchy.
It doesn't take Wallstreet stockbroker to know investing after something has already blown up has its drawbacks. Sure, seeing success insulates from risk, but it also means investors are buying high. Good deals are made through speculation. They come with risk since they're predictive rather than proven, but they also come at a much lower price and with a much higher upside.
After displaying significant growth in 2025, Flournoy has been a media and fan favorite to breakout in a big way this season. Signing a one-year, $6M extension, Flournoy retains his Cowboydom through the 2027 season. This is important because if George Pickens leaves after the current season, Flournoy ensures a level of continuity amongst the top receiver ranks.
Sources: The #cowboys and WR Ryan Flournoy have agreed to a 1-year contract extension worth up to $6M.

Today, of course, is the anniversary of an event that means so much more than baseball. Twenty-five years ago, the September 11th attacks rocked the US, especially in New York. There are commemorations of all sort taking place around the country today. While the tragedy of that day in 2001 means more than baseball, in New York, the two baseball teams will honor the day in their own way: playing baseball. Starting tonight, the Subway Series is back for a weekend set, beginning on the 25th anniversary of 9/11.
To go to the baseball for a minute, Carlos Rodón will get the start for the Yankees in this one. For the season, Rodón's numbers are generally pretty good, but his habit of taking a little too long to put away batters tends to prevent him from going long. While the Yankees didn't have to use too many crucial arms, the bullpen did have to pitch a decent amount of innings yesterday, so they could use a good day from Rodón.
As for the rest of the lineup, Aaron Judge is back after getting last night off, while Anthony Volpe is at second again after his five RBI performance.
For the Mets, Nolan McLean will take the mound. He's been really good for them, posting a 3.06 ERA in 161.2 innings. Across his last dozen starts, the rookie has been even better, with an even lower ERA of 1.87.
Here's everything to know on how to catch tonight's action, and we hope you'll come join us in the game thread.

A twist of fate saved Mark Wahlberg's life on September 11, 2001.
Wahlberg, 55, had been booked on American Airlines Flight 11, the plane that was hijacked and crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center, but changed his travel plans before that morning, according to a Daily Mail report published Friday, September 11. Instead of making the trip from Boston to Los Angeles, the By Any Means actor traveled to Toronto after a friend invited him to see his film at the Toronto International Film Festival.
All 92 people aboard Flight 11 were killed after five hijackers took control of the plane and crashed it into the North Tower at 8:46 a.m.
On the 25th anniversary of the attacks, Wahlberg acknowledged the emotions that still surround the day.
"This anniversary is always a gut punch of emotions…words just can't say it all. #neverforget911🇺🇸🗽 #freedomisntfree🇺🇸 ," he wrote on Instagram alongside a video of an American flag.
