Find out how much you could earn by locking in a high CD rate today. The Federal Reserve cut its federal funds rate three times in 2025. So far in 2026, the Fed has left interest rates alone, and so now could be your last chance to lock in a competitive CD rate before rates move further. CD rates vary widely across financial institutions, so it's important to ensure you're getting the best rate possible when shopping around for a CD.
The following is a breakdown of CD rates today and where to find the best offers.
Generally, the best CD rates today are offered on shorter terms of around one year or less. Online banks and credit unions, in particular, offer the top CD rates.
Today, Saturday, September 19, 2026, the highest CD rate is 4.40%, and it's offered by Happen Bank on its 2-year CD.

The tech industry is struggling to make sense of President Donald Trump's surprise announcement that he is creating an artificial intelligence task force and appointing a czar to oversee the administration's approach to the technology.
Trump, in alengthy Truth Social poston Saturday morning, said he was forming the government body and would also soon name an AI czar to lead it. He offered few details, leaving members of the tech world unsure what the task force would do, who would be involved or how it would operate.
Four representatives for the sector, who were granted anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly, told POLITICO that the industry was not widely informed of Trump's decision prior to the Truth Social post.
"Nobody knows what the idea even is," one of the people said. Another said that feedback on the idea was not widely solicited within the industry.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

If you're looking for a secure place to store your savings, a certificate of deposit (CD) may be a great choice. These accounts often provide higher interest rates than traditional checking and savings accounts. However, CD rates can vary widely. Learn more about CD rates today and where to find high-yield CDs with the best rates available. Here is a look at some of the best CD rates available today from our verified partners:
Today's CD rates vary quite a bit. In general, however, CD rates have been declining for quite some time due to the Fed's decision to cut its benchmark rate three times in the latter part of 2024 and three times in 2025. Even so, with the Fed leaving rates unchanged so far in 2026, some banks are still offering competitive CD rates.
For institutions offering competitive rates, top rates reach about 4% APY. This is especially true for shorter terms of one year or less.
Today, Friday, September 18, 2026, the highest CD rate is 4.40%, and it's offered by Happen Bank on its 2-year CD.

US stocks rebounded on Thursday as oil prices edged lower and a Fed rate hike on Wednesday offered some relief that the central bank was working to contain inflation.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) rose 0.6%, while the S&P 500 (^GSPC) climbed 1.1%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) jumped 1.7%, rebounding from a post-Fed-hike slump on Wednesday.
Stocks recovered as investors **** sed Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh's hawkish rhetoric, which **** ysts said helped restore the Fed's credibility on inflation. On Wednesday, the Federal Reserve raised interest rates by 25 basis points for the first time in three years and projected one more rate hike this year.
The decision drew the ire of President Trump, who called for lower interest rates and said he had spoken with Warsh ahead of the FOMC meeting. "You might as well vote with the board because it's not going to matter," Trump said he told Warsh.
Oil prices, meanwhile, ticked lower as US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline, which has become a key alternative route for oil stuck in the Strait of Hormuz, would be restored soon. Brent crude (BZ=F), the global benchmark, changed hands at $104 per barrel.

On September 10, 2026, The Lovesac Company (NASDAQ:LOVE) reported second-quarter fiscal 2027 results for the period ended August 2, 2026. Net sales rose 0.4% to $161.2 million, a record for the quarter, and the company swung to net income of $7.4 million, or $0.51 per diluted share, from a loss of $6.7 million a year earlier. Inside that $0.51 sits $0.86 of net benefit from IEEPA tariff refunds. Omni-channel comparable sales fell 1.9%.
Canaccord's Maria Ripps read the quarter as in line, with revenue and adjusted EBITDA both landing within guidance and near consensus while tariff refunds pushed gross margin and earnings above expectations; she cut the firm's target on The Lovesac Company (NASDAQ:LOVE) to $20 from $22 but held the Buy rating.
Roth Capital's Matt Koranda also called the quarter in line with consensus, though he flagged omni-channel comps trending modestly negative on soft lower-end consumer demand. He lowered the firm's target on The Lovesac Company (NASDAQ:LOVE) to $20 from $22 as well, keeping a Buy rating, and noted that management reset full-year guidance lower on a tough demand environment and modest product launch delays.
DA Davidson offered a similar interpretation of the lower guidance, arguing that the reset reflects the new CFO's approach more than a deterioration in the underlying business. The firm said the CFO, who joined during the quarter, appears to be establishing more conservative expectations that could restore a beat-and-raise pattern the stock had lacked. DA Davidson lowered its target on The Lovesac Company (NASDAQ:LOVE) to $18 from $20 while maintaining its Buy rating.
The operating case rests on the high end: configurations above $6,000 grew double digits against a tough comparison, showroom net sales rose 4.6% to $114.1 million on 14 net new locations, and Snugg helped push other products revenue up 198.2%. Lovesac ended the quarter with $68.8 million in cash and no debt.

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is reportedly considering a big move that could reshape the company. The Information reported on Wednesday that the iPhone maker was considering developing its own artificial intelligence server, which would be Apple's first activity in the enterprise server market since 2011.
The proposal would combine Apple's custom silicon with networking technology supplied by Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) to develop AI servers that could be offered with either two or four M8 Ultra chips, which are Apple's top-performing processors, and geared specifically for AI inference.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
Such a move, the first major action under new CEO John Ternus, would signal that Apple is ready to invest in AI architecture to use its custom-made chips in products beyond its consumer devices, which would be a significant shift in company strategy.

Investors continue to ask for more timely information, even as the volume available to them expands. A 2026 CFA Institute survey of 2,500 **** ysts and portfolio managers found that 62% opposed replacing quarterly reporting with semiannual reporting. Nearly 85% expressed concern about comparability if companies and investment managers could determine their own reporting frequency and format. Access remains important, while interpretation requires a separate discipline.
The demand also concerns the quality of disclosure. PwC's 2025 Global Investor Survey, covering 1,074 investment professionals across 26 countries and territories, found that only 37% believed companies disclosed enough about artificial intelligence strategies and policies. Respondents wanted greater transparency around innovation strategies, AI investment, and expected returns. These findings suggest that investors can face abundant commentary while still lacking the evidence needed to **** s a thesis.
Commercial incentives add another layer. A 2025 CFA Institute report examined continuation funds, in which a manager can oversee both the vehicle selling an **** et and the vehicle buying it. The report recognized the structure's liquidity role and identified conflicts requiring fair processes and governance. The example illustrates why informed **** ysis and aligned incentives are separate considerations.
That distinction applies beyond any single investment structure. Managers often possess valuable operational knowledge because they work directly with **** ets, tenants and financing markets. They may also be raising capital for the strategies they discuss. Their commercial interest becomes additional context for investors weighing forecasts, market narratives and recommendations alongside independently produced evidence. That context can help an investment committee separate a source's knowledge of the market from the confidence it should place in the source's preferred outcome during capital allocation.
Geoffrey Dohrmann, chairman, CEO and editor-in-chief of Institutional Real Estate, Inc., has watched those narratives develop across several market cycles. IREI is a media and market intelligence company covering institutional real estate and infrastructure through publications, research, data, events and consulting. Dohrmann explains its editorial role as independently recording where real-asset capital is moving and examining the explanations offered for those decisions.

NBC4's helicopter was one of several news aircraft flying over the scene of a deadly bus crash in Chatsworth Tuesday evening at sunset.
It's common for multiple news choppers to arrive at the scene of breaking news, beaming live images for newscasts and streaming.
But around 7 p.m., something went horribly wrong and in a matter of seconds the NBC4 chopper dropped out of the sky, crashing into shipping containers and vehicles outside a warehouse a few blocks away, bursting into flames. Two station journalists, reporter Eliana Moreno and pilot George Marciniw, were killed along with a bystander on the ground.
Federal investigators are now trying to figure out what went wrong. The Times interviewed several experts, who reviewed recordings of the chopper's final moments. They offered insights into the helicopter itself, its movements that afternoon and what is known about how its mechanics work.
Here's what they had to say:

CrowdStrike (CRWD) stock is already having a huge 2026, but Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang just offered investors another reason to stay bullish. Speaking at a Goldman Sachs technology conference, Huang said cybersecurity could become the next major growth driver for artificial intelligence and described CrowdStrike as Nvidia's (NVDA) "number one cybersecurity partner."
That matters because the AI opportunity is expanding beyond chatbots and data centers. As companies deploy more AI agents, they also face a growing number of security risks. CrowdStrike is positioning its Falcon platform to capture that spending, potentially giving CRWD another growth engine after its powerful run this year.

With the news that Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Landon ******* erson was being placed on IR with a knee injury, ******* erson himself seemed fine with the development — especially since, in the guard's view, he had no business being on the field in Week 1.
In an interview on Philadelphia's 94 WIP radio, which took place very shortly after the IR news landed, ******* erson offered a blunt ******* sment of his play in the Eagles' narrow 24-22 win over the Washington Commanders on Sunday.
"Honestly, (to) address the elephant in the room, I played like sh** yesterday," ******* erson said. "I was a complete liability yesterday and, again, that was my fault … I shouldn't be out there until I feel healthy."

Dickerson found out that he was being placed on IR while live on air: After being read a report from the Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McClane, who was the first to report the news, the Eagles' starting left guard admitted to WIP that he hadn't been officially told, but that he knew it "was kind of the plan."

The Montreal Canadiens still have one major problem if they want to pursue Dylan Larkin: the Detroit Red Wings center has not approved Montreal as a trade destination.
That has not stopped an intriguing Canadiens prospect from entering the conversation.
TVA Sports reporter Nicolas Cloutier recently pointed to Michael Hage, Montreal's 2024 first-round pick, as a player Detroit knows particularly well and would have interest in. Hage plays at the University of Michigan, putting him directly in the Red Wings' scouting backyard. He also has an unusual connection to Detroit's front office through Michigan teammate Will Horcoff, the son of Red Wings executive Shawn Horcoff.
Cloutier said he is convinced Detroit knows Hage well and believes the Red Wings would be interested in him, according to a report relaying his comments on BPM Sports.
That does not mean Hage has been offered for Larkin or that the teams are actively negotiating.

The Detroit Lions may be doing more than simply monitoring the Joey Porter Jr. situation.
According to a new report from Jeff Risdon, Detroit has contacted the Pittsburgh Steelers about the veteran cornerback's availability, potentially turning weeks of speculation into something more tangible.
Risdon said he has been told from the Pittsburgh side that conversations between the teams have taken place.
"I can tell you that I know that the Lions have approached the Steelers," Risdon said on Monday. "I don't know how receptive the Steelers were. I don't know what the Lions offered, if anything. I know that they have talked. I got that from a reliable source from the Pittsburgh side. Will anything happen? I don't know."
That does not mean a trade is imminent. It does mean the Porter-to-Detroit idea may have moved beyond the purely hypothetical stage.

On August 5, Clear Channel Outdoor Holdings Inc. (NYSE:CCO) reported second-quarter results that showed the billboard and airport advertising company accelerating just as it prepares to leave the public markets. On February 9, Clear Channel agreed to be acquired by an investor consortium advised by Mubadala Capital for $2.43 per share, a deal stockholders approved on May 12, and one expected to close by the end of the third quarter of 2026. Because of the pending Merger, Clear Channel skipped its usual earnings call and offered no forward guidance.
Consolidated revenue climbed 8.7% to $438.0 million in the quarter and 10.2% to $811.9 million over the first half, with the 2026 FIFA World Cup pulling in extra advertising spend across both of Clear Channel's segments. The America division, which houses the roadside billboard and street furniture business, grew revenue 7% to $324.3 million as demand from technology advertisers in the San Francisco/Bay Area market broadened out and digital billboard revenue rose 7.2% to $122 million. Airports revenue jumped 14% to $113.6 million, helped by strong demand at San Francisco
International Airport and digital sales that climbed 15.6% to $73.4 million, with national advertisers now accounting for 57.8% of that segment's revenue. Profitability grew even faster than the top line. Adjusted EBITDA rose 11.6% to $143.4 million for the quarter and 19% to $247.3 million for the first half, while Airports Segment Adjusted EBITDA jumped 22.8% to $29.9 million. Adjusted Funds From Operations climbed 61.6% to $44.9 million in the quarter, and for the first half it went from just $5 million a year ago to $51.5 million. On August 4, Clear Channel also closed the sale of its Spain business for about $132.3 million, proceeds it plans to put toward paying down debt.
The growth did not reach the bottom line. Clear Channel posted a loss from continuing operations of $10 million in the quarter, reversing a $6.3 million profit a year earlier, and the consolidated net loss came to $5 million versus net income of $10.6 million in the same period of 2025. Over six months, the loss from continuing operations widened 21.4% to $59.4 million. Costs rose alongside revenue. Direct operating and SG&A expenses increased 5.9% for the quarter, and Airports site lease expense alone jumped 12.0% to $67.1 million on higher minimum guaranteed payments and the renewed contract with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.

Savannah Guthrie and Michael Feldman apparently were not finished with the U.S. Open after their August date night.
The Today co-anchor returned to Arthur Ashe Stadium with her husband on September 13 for the men's singles final. TMZ photographed the couple smiling together before heading inside, with Guthrie wearing a black top and colorful skirt.
The outing came less than three weeks after Guthrie and Feldman attended a different U.S. Open event together on August 25. That night, they watched Roger Federer return to the court for exhibition matches involving Andy Roddick and Andre Agassi.
The two appearances have offered rare public glimpses of the couple during an intensely private year for their family. Guthrie's mother, Nancy Guthrie, has remained missing since February, and Feldman has largely stayed beside his wife.

Adam Carolla cut right to the chase when he offered his take on President Donald Trump's plan to give out $5,000 to every American adult, as long as Republicans win the 2026 midterms.
"So now we're just bribing people," Carolla said on the Sunday episode of his podcast.
He said again it sounded like Trump was "bribin' 'em" to get votes — but Carolla didn't seem too upset about it.
The veteran comic and podcaster argued the Democratic Party has been doing its own version of freebie payments for decades, thanks to government programs like food stamps and states paying for the healthcare of low-income residents. Carolla said it "evidently works" when it comes to winning over voters, so Republicans should give it a shot.
"It definitely works on all the poor people," Carolla continued. "We'll just get you free cheese, and free school, and free Medicare, and we'll get you free sh*t. Why don't rich people start bribing people? Why not?"

Savannah Guthrie celebrated Lady Gaga's entry into motherhood by looking back at a memorable exchange the pop star shared with her years ago.
During Monday's episode of Today, the host reacted to the announcement that Gaga and her fiancé, Michael Polansky, have welcomed their first baby. Guthrie, a mother of two with husband Mike Feldman, brought up a unique note of encouragement the "Mother Monster" offered when Guthrie was pregnant with her eldest child, Vale.
"When I was pregnant with Vale and we didn't find out if it was a boy or a girl, Lady Gaga came on and she said, 'I think you're having a girl,' " Guthrie said, referring to the 2014 interview "And I said, 'Really? How do you know?' And she said, 'She told me.' Isn't that cute?"
Jenna Bush Hager, Vale's godmother, was stunned by the admission
"What! Vale and Lady Gaga had a connection?!" she said with excitement.

Harvey Elliott went to Valencia in search of calm, minutes and the sort of fresh start that can rescue a career from drift. Instead, as Liverpool.com reports, he has arrived in the middle of turbulence, and for a young footballer trying to rebuild belief, that can be a cruel place to begin again.
The move to Spain felt, on the surface, like a sensible answer to a difficult year. Elliott had returned from an underwhelming loan at Aston Villa, a spell that promised more than it delivered, and came back to Liverpool needing clarity. Under Andoni Iraola, opportunities in pre-season were there in glimpses, but the direction of travel soon became obvious. He was not an obvious fit and early omissions from matchday squads told their own story.
So Valencia offered possibility. A big club, a demanding crowd, a league that can reward intelligence and craft, it seemed a place where Elliott might reconnect with the qualities that once made him such an exciting young midfielder. Yet football has a habit of mocking tidy plans.
IMAGO | Anfield Index
Valencia are bottom of La Liga after five matches, with only one draw to show for them. Supporters are restless, results are poor and the mood has soured quickly. Elliott, still working his way towards full sharpness, has managed only two substitute appearances. That was already a delicate situation. It has now become even more unstable.

This offseason, the Heat witnessed a complete change in its roster. From superstar acquisitions through trade exchanges to top players leaving impressive salaries to join the roster, they saw a major upheaval. However, two players who were unaffected by these events were Andrew Wiggins and Simone Fontecchio.
Both players not only get to continue on the team but were also offered retention; a lifeline offered to only a handful this time. Now, with the next season approaching, the players have to meet high expectations to justify their contracts.
Earlier in the summer, Wiggins exercised the $30.1 million player option for the final year of his contract with Miami. But on June 29, the Heat decided to hand him a two-year, $34 million extension, bringing his term to a three-year, $64 million contract with them overall. He will be getting $16.5 million in 2027-28 and will have the player-option season worth $17.5 million in 2028-29. This is a huge financial security for any player, especially in a team that is aggressively looking to reinvent itself at the cost of its roster.
Wiggins was a dependable starter and brought stability last season, which he needs to continue this year. Wiggins averaged 15.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.7 ****** ists per game across 68 appearances. Maintaining his distance from defense, the 31-year-old needs to focus on being a high-efficiency 3-and-D wing, a role that saw him shine last year. He knocked down two threes a game at a career-best 41.4% clip in 2025-26.
At his rate, he could surely increase his average and show improvement. For the upcoming season, Wiggins should get perimeter shooting help from Klay Thompson, who he was teammates with in Golden State.

With mortgage rates pushing 7%, the timing of a "rate sale" couldn't be better. Chase Home Loans is once again hosting a limited-time interest rate discount promotion.
The national lender launched its first weeks-only offer just over a year ago. Apparently, it's been enough of a success that Chase is bringing the rate sale back for its third encore.
The rate discount is available for three weeks only, from Monday, Sept. 14, through Sunday, Oct. 4. Chase Home Loans will offer homebuyers and homeowners discounted rates on all new mortgage purchase and refinance loans. The sale is available for both new and existing customers.
While offers vary by state, Chase says qualified buyers can receive up to 0.25% off their loan interest rate. For example, an offered rate of 6.75% could be cut to 6.50%. That would save a borrower over $23,800 in interest on a $400,000 loan with a fixed-interest 30-year term — and reduce the payment by more than $65 a month.

ATLANTA − Tennessee football quarterback Faizon Brandon faced some adversity while playing on the road for the first time in his very young college career.
Furman offered little resistance in his first career start but Brandon was challenged in Week 2 at Georgia Tech. His first road start didn't look pretty in the final box score but it was more than enough to get the No. 18 Vols (2-0) to a 45-24 win over the Yellow Jackets (0-2) on Sept. 12 at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
"The stat sheet's not going to be elite. I actually really like how he played the game," UT coach Josh Heupel said. "I thought he was composed, he handled himself in situational football pretty well. First game on the road, 18 years old, handled himself well."
Brandon completed 10 of 21 passes for 148 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. He was sacked once and added 23 yards on five rushing attempts.
He was particularly inaccurate in the first half, completing only 5 of 15 passes but racking up 106 yards and two touchdown passes. Of his five first-half completions, four went for 15 yards or more and three gained 20 yards or more.
