India's next Test **** ignment will take them to New Zealand for a two-match series beginning November 19, and former Kiwi fast bowler Trent Boult believes KL Rahul will be one of the Indian batters worth watching closely.
The two Tests will form part of India's marathon New Zealand tour, which begins on October 22 and features 12 matches across the three formats. With India needing a strong result to remain in contention for the World Test Championship (WTC) final, the spotlight is expected to fall on several key players, including captain Shubman Gill and pace spearhead Jasprit **** rah.
Boult, however, has picked Rahul and his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal as the two Indian batters he is particularly looking forward to seeing in action.
"I'm always a big fan of KL Rahul and his style of batsmanship. So he's a big player at the top of the order for the Indian side. And yeah, I believe Jaiswal is there as well. Two classy batters to see bat. So yeah, be interesting to see," Boult said in an interview to PTI.
The timing of the series could make conditions particularly interesting. Unlike India's previous Test tours of New Zealand, which have often taken place in the February-March window, this series will be played in late October and November.
Boult feels the timing could bring colder weather into play, while he is hoping the New Zealand pitches retain some grass and offer **** istance to the home attack.
"It's always an exciting chance when the Indian team comes down to play Test cricket in New Zealand," Boult said.
"The only thing I can see happening is it's going to be late October. I believe, just coming out of winter. So it's going to be quite cold. Hopefully, there's a bit of greenness in the wickets for some of our bowlers. It's going to be a good series, I'm sure," the star former Kiwi pacer added.
Boult also backed the current New Zealand bowling unit to make an impact against India, pointing to the variety available to the team.
Kyle Jamieson, Matt Henry, Nathan Smith and Will O'Rourke bring different qualities to the attack, and Boult believes that gives New Zealand enough options to develop its own identity.
"I think the bowling is very well balanced. It's got bases covered in terms of a good pace, obviously, with Will O'Rourke. Obviously, a bit of swing and a bit of bounce from Kyle Jamieson and Matt Henry with his accuracy.
"So yeah, I think the way me, Tim (Southee) and Wags (Neil Wagner) did it over the years was a unique way in itself. But there's other strengths and other game plans that our younger bowlers can follow," Boult further said.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, journalist Pete O'Rourke claimed that Liverpool are keen on recruiting Bournemouth winger Rayan. O'Rourke said,
"There's obvious links between Rayan and the Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola.
"Iraola was at Bournemouth when they signed him, and obviously he made a massive impact there, he got seven goal contributions in 15 games which is pretty good going.
"Obviously, links with Liverpool are pretty easy to come up with in that respect because of who the manager is.
"Iraola is a big fan of his, having worked with him before, so of course it is a possibility and Liverpool will be keeping a close eye on his performances for Bournemouth this season.

One area where IU has a leg up on their homework is at quarterback.
Last week, North Texas announced a familiar face as starter when it named Tayven Jackson to oppose IU. The Center Grove alum from outside Indianapolis made six starts over two seasons in Bloomington and won a game over Washington in 2024 while Kurtis Rourke was sidelined with a thumb injury.
"Tayven played really good football for us in '24, came in at halftime in the Nebraska game, and played a great second half, and started next week against Washington, a game that we won," Cignetti said.

"It's literally and figuratively the longest summer up here," New York Racing ****** ociation President and CEO David O'Rourke said in an interview ahead of Saturday's Travers Stakes, "but it's been a great one in my opinion."
The supersized summer meet hits its crescendo Saturday with the 157th running of the Travers Stakes. The $1.25 million race, which features the return of Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes winner Golden Tempo, is set for a 6:35 p.m. post time and will highlight a blockbuster day of racing that includes six graded stakes.
A variety of factors have led to this being the longest summer in Saratoga's venerable history.
This is the third and final year of extra racing days being moved to the Spa due to the $455 million reconstruction of Belmont Park, which is set to reopen next month. In addition to Saratoga hosting its third Belmont Stakes back in June, it's also the second straight year that July racing at Saratoga started over Independence Day weekend. This year, the July 4 Racing Festival was considered the official start to the meet, resulting in a planned 46-day racing calendar spread out over 10 weeks due to a late Labor Day - the meet's traditional closing day - on Sept. 7.

Much is being made about the Tennessee ***** ans' supposed ongoing struggles in the secondary. It was undeniably disappointing to watch San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback Kurtis Rourke complete 12-of-14 passes against the ***** ans' starting secondary in the first preseason game. Starting quarterback Cam Ward has also routinely carved up the starters for most of training camp.
Head coach Robert Saleh isn't panicking, but recently admitted there should be a sense of urgency. Understandably so. The ***** ans committed more than $100 million in free agency to new starting cornerbacks Cor'Dale Flott and Alontae Taylor, and they've been at the forefront of the struggles.
With the ***** ans doing some soul searching, you wonder if cornerback Joshua Williams could contribute something positive at cornerback. He was the third cornerback the ***** ans signed in free agency earlier this offseason. His shared history with Mike Borgonzi and the Kansas City Chiefs made him a target.
Williams has been wearing a yellow non-contact jersey at training camp due to a pectoral muscle injury. Coach Saleh recently claimed he's close to shedding that jersey and being a full participant at practice. Saleh also praised his length and work ethic, and Jim Wyatt noted he had a pass breakup during individual drills earlier this week.
Williams is long and competitive. He possesses the physical profile Coach Saleh prefers in his cornerbacks. If Taylor and Flott struggle into the regular season, perhaps Williams will start getting worked into the rotation. For now, he's simply focused on being healthy enough to contribute once his number is called.

Aston Villa are prepared to part ways with young defender Triston Rowe before the transfer window closes, according to a report from Pete O'Rourke. Villa will sanction a permanent exit, but insist on a buy-back option being baked into any agreement. That's the bottom line.

According to one transfer insider, Liverpool have no plans to sell Cody Gakpo this month and would have no intention of changing that stance unless two things were to happen.
Tottenham Hotspur have been continually linked with a move for the Dutch forward this summer, although the Daily Mail's Simon Jones recently claimed that Anfield chiefs are adamant they don't want to sell the 27-year-old.
That standpoint has been corroborated by another journalist in Pete O'Rourke, who hinted that the only things which could change the Reds' mind is if they were to bring in another one or two forwards in this window and if Spurs submit an enormous bid for our number 18.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast for Football Insider, he said: "As things stand right now, Liverpool do not plan on selling Cody Gakpo despite Tottenham's interest.

In the Wednesday, Aug. 5 episode of "Call Her Daddy," Thorne opened up about the pressures of being treated like an adult as a pre-teen and how she and Zendaya, whom she starred opposite on "Shake It Up" from 2010 to 2013, mended their friendship after being pitted against each other as child stars growing up in Hollywood.
"Thank God," the 28-year-old "Scream" TV actress said of having a confidante in Zendaya during their Disney days, which also included the 2012 movie "Frenemies" and Zendaya's series "K.C. Undercover," in which Thorne made a onetime cameo.

Bono and Steve Coogan were among the mourners at Glen Hansard's funeral service on Tuesday.

Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Churchill Downs and the New York Racing ****** ociation Monday a new grouping of races for 3-year-olds that includes the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes, but not the third leg of the existing Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes, run in Maryland.
Churchill Downs and NYRA officials topped short of saying the six-race "Thoroughbred Championship Series" is designed to replace the historic Triple Crown. But with a $5 million bonus and longer ****** ing between the races, that would be the practical effect.
"This series is designed to showcase the sport's best 2-year-olds across a season-long championship, elevating our biggest events and creating the next generation of fans," David O'Rourke, the NYRA president and CEO, said Monday.
"By connecting these premier events through one championship, we're creating a season-long storyline that benefits the future of Thoroughbred racing," said Bill Carstanjen, the Churchill Downs Inc. CEO.

Mexico all but booked their ticket to the Quarterfinals of the CONCACAF U20 Championship after defeating Costa Rica by a 2-0 score. Mexico overcame going down to 10 players to get a victory that place them at 6 points, basically guaranteeing them to be at worst one of the two best third placed teams and thus the ticket to the Quarterfinals. Mexico will look to win the group against Guatemala on Thursday while Costa Rica faces off against Antigua and Barbuda earlier that day.
The 1st half started with Mexico coming out with most of the starting 11 from their opener against Antigua and Barbuda. Off a free kick, a cross into the area was almost deflected in by Gabriel Sibaja, as Costa Rica had the first chance of the match. Off a counter, Kionell Estrada got off a right footed shot in the area that went wide. A right footed shot from outside the area from Hugo Camberos went well wide. Both teams traded possession as the match became very even. A bad clearance allowed Matias Cordero to get the ball in the area but his shot was well saved by Mexico's goalkeeper, Juan Liceaga. After a harsh foul, there was a short scuffle between teams that ended with David Carro getting a Yellow card. The match continued to be extremely chippy as Mexico couldn't get going against Costa Rica's physical play. From outside the area, Samir Inda got off a great left footed shot that was deflected off the post. Mexico started to dominate possession as Costa Rica sat back and waited to counter. After a cross into the area was won by Santiago Sandoval, he would get brought down in the area by Adrian Espinoza and a Penalty Kick was given to Mexico. Hugo Camberos stepped up to take the PK and got off a thunderous right footed shot that went past Costa Rica's goalkeeper, Ian O'Rourke to score and give Mexico the 1-o lead. From outside the area, Juan Echivelstre got off a great right footed shot that forced O'Rourke to make a great save. Emmanuel Hernandez answered with a right footed shot from outside the area that Liceaga made a great save on it. The halftime whistle blew and after a slow start to the match, Mexico ended the half being the better team.
The 2nd half started with Mexico subbing out Carlos Hernandez for Yohan Orozco. Strangely three minutes into the half, Mexico subbed out Aldahir Valenzuela (possibly because of an injury) for Diego Reyes. A bad clearance from Liceaga ended up with him clearing the ball and kicking Sibaja in the face which earned him a straight red card. It was a terrible mistake from the goalkeeper that now placed the match in extreme danger with only 10 players. Mexico would sub out Juan Sigala for Cristo Navarrate, which because of the strange substitution of Valenzuela, meant that Mexico only had one window for subs for the rest of the match. Off a counter, Inda would make a great pass to Santiago Sandoval, whose left footed shot would be deflected by Emmanuel Brenes past O'Rourk and into the net to score and give Mexico the surprising 2-0 l

The 49ers have often entered training camp with four quarterbacks under Kyle Shanahan. Last year, it was Brock Purdy, Mac Jones, Kurtis Rourke, Tanner Mordecai, and Carter Bradley. There was an extra quarterback in the fold with Rourke recovering from a knee injury.
The previous August, it was Purdy, Mordecai, Brandon Allen, and Josh Dobbs. In August 2023, It was Purdy, Allen, Sam Darnold, and Trey Lance.

Plummer, who led the Orlando Storm to an 8-2 record as a starter in 2026, threw for 2,189 yards and 17 touchdowns against just one interception, completing 65% of his passes for a 104.2 rating. He added 189 yards and two scores on the ground, capping a UFL season that made him one of the most productive quarterbacks in the league.
The 26-year-old is a well-traveled college veteran, having played at Purdue, California and Louisville. His final season at Louisville in 2023 was his most productive collegiate campaign, throwing for 3,204 yards and 21 touchdowns. Across his college career, Plummer completed 64.1 percent of his passes for 9,728 yards, 68 touchdowns and 31 interceptions in 47 games.
After going undrafted in 2024, Plummer spent some time on the Carolina Panthers, bouncing between the practice squad and the active roster before being waived ahead of the 2025 season. He is not related to former NFL quarterback Jake Plummer, who spent 10 seasons with the Arizona Cardinals and Denver Broncos.
Should San Francisco bring Plummer into training camp, he would be competing for a roster spot behind starter Brock Purdy in a quarterback room that currently includes Mac Jones, Adrian Martinez and Kurtis Rourke. A proper scramble is breaking out across Europe for former West Brom kid Michael Parker. News broke via journalist Pete O'Rourke on X that Celtic are firmly in the mix, tracking the towering English defender after he shone in Sweden. As part of a planned leadership transition, multimodal transportation provider Schneider National announced additional changes on Monday.
Green Bay, Wisconsin-based Schneider (NYSE: SNDR) previously announced that President and CEO Mark Rourke will become the executive chairman of the board, effective Wednesday. Jim Filter, Schneider's executive vice president and president of transportation and logistics, will succeed Rourke as the company's president and CEO. Filter, who has been with the company for 27 years, is also expected to be appointed to the board at a later date.
The company said Monday that Michael Baumgardt has been named executive vice president of the intermodal and logistics units. Baumgardt has been with the company in various leadership roles since 2001, most recently serving as senior vice president and general manager of intermodal.
Schneider's intermodal and logistics segments generated $2.4 billion in combined revenue over the last 12 months.

Wells has been president of Schneider subsidiary Cowan Systems since November 2024, when Schneider announced it would acquire the carrier. Tyrone manager Malachy O'Rourke feels some of the calls against his side in their 1-24 to 0-25 All-Ireland SFC quarter-final defeat by Kerry were "really, really harsh."
The Red Hands fell agonisingly short of booking their spot in the semi-finals after an impressive second-half display.
During the thrilling match in Dublin, Tyrone felt a few key decisions at big moments went in favour of the All-Ireland champions.
"We felt that some of the calls that went against us were really, really harsh," O'Rourke told BBC Sport NI.
"Maybe it'll look different on the video and we'll look at it but those marginal calls were really hard on us and at one stage to Kerry boys even stopped playing because it seemed so blatant to us.
