The San Francisco 49ers dealt with so many injuries throughout their 2025 campaign, that it was almost difficult for the team to keep enough players on the roster at times, and now it looks like these issues are creeping up again.
Before Wednesday's training camp session, ESPN's Nick Wagoner reported that wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, running back Jordan James and safety Malik Mustapha are all injured and won't practice.
According to Wagoner, Pearsall is dealing with knee swelling that stems from the PCL injury that he suffered in 2025. That injury cost him significant time last year, and with the team reportedly considering all options, including surgery, this could be a long-term issue.
James suffered a fractured rib that will keep him off the field for some time. The 22-year-old was battling 2025 draft pick Kaelon Black to be Christian McCaffrey's top backup, but this will certainly impact that competition. For now, Black will be the guy with Patrick Taylor Jr. and Sincere McCormick filling in.
Mustapha has a hamstring strain, which will keep him out of Wednesday's practice. However, it's unclear how significant the strain is. George Kittle missed five weeks with a hamstring last year. That would put the defensive back returning right around Week 1. If it's serious, it might give the upper hand to Marques Sigle, who's surprisingly battling Mustapha for a starting job.

TThe Buffalo Bills opened training camp Wednesday with nearly their entire roster on the practice field.
Wide receiver Tyrell Shavers, who is recovering from a torn ACL suffered during Buffalo's playoff win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in January, was the lone player to begin camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.
"Tyrell Shavers is PUP so he's the only one that won't be out there today," offensive coordinator Joe Brady said before practice. "There will be some guys that will be on a limited rep count."
That means the Bills are beginning training camp with nearly their entire roster available, a welcome change after injuries piled up late last season.
The news represents a significant turnaround from the offseason, when general manager Brandon Beane said several players were still working their way back from surgeries. Players including Michael Hoecht, DeWayne Carter, Landon Jackson and Jordan Hancock all participated in Wednesday's opening practice, though some worked on limited snap counts.

Jalen Carter is no longer being paid for potential. The Philadelphia Eagles are compensating him like the centerpiece of a championship defense.
Carter agreed to a four-year, $152 million extension that reportedly includes $106 million guaranteed, making him the highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history by annual value. That distinction brings more than financial security. It establishes a standard Carter will be expected to meet every week. The Eagles have already seen stretches in which Carter appears capable of controlling games from the interior. His first-step quickness, power and ability to collapse the pocket create problems that cannot always be measured through sacks. Quarterbacks are forced to move, running backs must alter their paths and offensive lines frequently commit additional help to his side.
Philadelphia's investment is based on the belief that those stretches can become the norm.
Record contracts invite record expectations. Carter will be evaluated against the NFL's elite defensive tackles rather than other young players at his position. Quiet stretches will receive more attention, while availability, conditioning, and discipline will become increasingly important factors in his performance. The extension also gives Carter an opportunity to **** ume a larger leadership role. Jordan Davis has received his own long-term deal, but Carter's contract makes him the financial centerpiece of Philadelphia's defense. Younger linemen will follow his example, and the organization will expect his preparation to match his talent.

For the Dallas Cowboys, it's been an offseason where more noise has come from their roster moves, free agent acquisitions, and draft picks than any off the field drama, which is a welcome change for a team that will begin the regular season 973 days removed from their last playoff game appearance.
That playoff game was the now-infamous 48-32 home loss to the Green Bay Packers. The Cowboys and Packers have met just once since that January game in AT&T Stadium, and it was memorable for a whole other host of reasons, ending in a 40-40 tie on Sunday Night Football last season in week four.
The Cowboys and Packers will meet again on Sunday night primetime this season, at Lambeau Field, this time in week six. The Packers will go into year four of Jordan Love as the starting quarterback and year eight for Matt LaFleur having lost in the Wild Card round the last two postseasons. For the Cowboys, it will be just year two of Brian Schottenheimer but year 11 for Dak Prescott. There was a point when Love was an up-and-coming quarterback and Prescott was in the midst of the three straight 12 win seasons under Mike McCarthy, and both were seen as potentially battling for supremacy at the position in the NFC, but so far it still hasn't manifested for either.

Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso has answered on his side's transfer plans after winning their first match of pre-season.
The Blues kicked off their pre-season tour in Australia with a 6-4 victory over Sydney Warriors. However, much attention remains on the transfer market, where the club continues to be active.
Veteran Englishmen Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson have both been linked with moves to Stamford Bridge in the past 24 hours. Alonso answered on the speculation.
"I'm sure that from today until the last day of the transfer window there will be a lot of rumours," said the Spanish coach. "So to be commenting on all of them, it's going to be a hard task.
"But for sure we need proper balance in terms of qualities, in terms of positions, in terms of balance. We want to have a complete squad and we want to make a good team.

England international? Tick. Premier League winner? Tick. At least 35 years old? Erm, tick that too. Chelsea's transfer policy has taken a surprising turn this summer, ripped up and rewritten, and it's led the club to the doors of Jordan Henderson and Danny Welbeck.
Chelsea are working on deals to add both to Xabi Alonso's squad in time for the start of the new season. They have also missed out on other experienced targets such as John Stones, 32, who is set for a move to Inter Milan, and Granit Xhaka, 33, who Sunderland are determined to keep as captain.
It is a stunning departure from one of the most aggressive youth-focused transfer strategies in Premier League history, which has brought waves of potential to Stamford Bridge replete with lavish decade-long contracts. BlueCo have been dogmatic, signing only one player over 25 – defender Tosin Adarabioyo – since the summer of 2023. Last season, Chelsea signed 10 players ranging in age from 18 (Estevao, Kendry Paez) to 23 (Joao Pedro).

It would be wrong to say the transfer policy has been completely flawed. Nurturing young talent and investing in sellable ******* ets is the modus operandi of many well-run clubs. Cole Palmer and Moises Caicedo were youthful signings, as were Enzo Fernandez and Wesley Fofana. Estevao and Joao Pedro had excellent debut seasons in an underwhelming Chelsea team.

Big news in the sports world this week as LeBron James finally made his decision about where he is going to play next year, and as you know he decided on the Philadelphia 76ers. So, what does that mean for his sports card and collectibles market?

His cards were already starting to go up-up-up over the last few weeks or so in anticipation of not only his latest decision but in response to the massive Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant card market boom that has happened in the last few months. It seemed only right that the nostalgia and fomo would carry into the LeBron market.
And while many of his flagship Topps rookie cards are in the thousands of dollars, there are still some fun LeBron collectibles on the market that I think are worth grabbing and holding for the long run.
The Campioni di Futuro (mini) rookie card is maybe my all-time favorite. It's odd, it's adorable and it's under $100 for a raw. There's also numbered and different color variations, and while it may not bring you generational wealth, it certainly remains relatively rare for a LeBron rookie.

That means that the global celebrity who leveraged his fame into billionaire status will earn the exact same amount as, say, DeAndre Jordan, a third-string center who appeared in 12 games all of last season.
