A direct trustee-to-trustee rollover moves a pension lump sum like $812,000 into a traditional IRA with zero withholding and no current tax.
An indirect rollover triggers mandatory 20% federal withholding, and you must replace the withheld cash within 60 days or owe taxes and penalties.
SECURE 2.0 pushes the RMD start age to 73 or 75 depending on birth year, eventually forcing taxable withdrawals from the rolled-over balance.

If your employer just dropped pension buyout paperwork on your desk and asked whether you want a monthly check for life or a one-time lump sum, there is a detail buried in the tax code that most retirees trip over right at the finish line. You can move the entire lump sum into a traditional IRA through a direct rollover, and the IRS will not collect a dime until you start taking money out. But mess up the execution, and the same move can trigger automatic withholding and a tax bill you never should have seen in the first place.

Filip Hrgovic ripped up the script and shattered Moses Itauma's world-title dream as the Briton appeared to punch himself out in an extraordinary heavyweight contest in London.
Itauma, 21, controlled most of the fight and scored a second-round knockdown but faded as his relentless output caught up with him.
Hrgovic weathered the storm and piled on the pressure in the ninth. With Itauma barely able to stand, his legs unsteady and body swaying before slumping in the corner, his team threw in the towel.
Itauma - who needed medical attention before leaving the arena on a stretcher - had been a heavy favourite after tearing through his first 14 opponents and was spoken about as heavyweight boxing's next superstar.
"He is the best I have been in the ring with, but he needs more experience. I knew I was losing the round, but I knew that I had the pace in my favour. He needs more experience, but he is one of a kind," Hrgovic said.

Lionel Messi is still not slowing down anytime soon. The Argentine legend bagged a hat-trick against CF Montréal this evening as the Herons thrashed the Canadian side.
Initially it appeared the forward had scored four to finish the night, but after the match one of his goals was adjusted to an own-goal by Montréal. A stunning performance nonetheless.
Miami had been in a slump lately, but with new head coach Kily Gonzalez in the door this week, they made a statement with the thrashing of Montréal on home soil.
Messi was the star man, as usual, scoring three goals in the process, including two ridiculous finishes.
The first came from a vintage mazy run in the box before sliding the ball home.

Casemiro is off and running in the pink shirt of Inter Miami, putting the Herons ahead against CF Montréal at the Nu Stadium.
After Miami piled on the pressure in the opening 20 minutes, it took a set piece to break the deadlock.
After a couple knocks on the Montréal door, Casemiro went up strong to fire home his first goal for the club with a bullet header.
Inter Miami are heading into a new era with Kily Gonzalez in the door as the club's fourth head coach.
But getting goals from you midfield star can only help pull them back into the picture after a recent slump.

Bengaluru: While the Indian cricket team made its Asian Games debut in Hangzhou in 2023, its first appearance at a multi-sport event came at the 1998 Commonwealth Games. In Kuala Lumpur, a star-studded side featuring Sachin Tendulkar, Anil ***** ble, VVS Laxman and Harbhajan Singh bowed out in the league phase. Twenty-five years later, Laxman returned to the multi-sport arena, this time as coach, guiding India to gold in Hangzhou.

Now, as the Shreyas Iyer-led Indian team prepares to defend its ***** le at Korogi Athletic Park in Aichi Prefecture, ***** an beginning with the quarterfinals on Sept 28, Laxman spoke exclusively to TOI of the unique appeal of multi-sport events, India's Asian Games campaign and the experience of being part of the cricket team's journey from its first CWG appearance to maiden Asian Games gold.

"My first experience of a multi-discipline event was at the 1998 Commonwealth Games. The whole experience of being part of the Indian contingent feels really great, and that kind of experience every young cricketer should get. It's great that I've had that opportunity both as a player and coach," said the head of cricket at the BCCI Centre of Excellence.

Recalling the Hangzhou experience, the former batting great said, "Obviously, it's not like your mainstream cricket series or tournaments that we've been part of since we started playing for the country. The Asian Games was a great experience and exposure because not often do we get to visit the Games village, meet a sportsperson from other disciplines, interact with them, see how they train and prepare. A group of us went to support the Indian badminton team, which was fantastic."

India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are the seeded teams making the quarterfinals directly, with Afghanistan, ***** an, Nepal, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Oman fighting for the other four knockout berths.

While India will start favourites, they can ill afford to take the other teams lightly, with Nepal giving them a run for their medal in the previous edition before India won by 23 runs to make the semifinals.

India will play a match against ***** an and train in Tokyo for three days before heading to the host city. Laxman pointed to the match against Nepal and said, "One thing which we have learnt playing the game is never underestimate your opponent."

Beyond the game, Laxman believes it is about knowledge sharing.

"Given the experience and the exposure the Indian cricketers have, at the end of the match it's also about sharing that experience with players from other countries. After Nepal ran us close in the previous edition of the Asian Games, their coach invited me to talk to the team, which was an opportunity to share knowledge. It's not just me, but that's the way the entire group of players will approach the experience," Laxman stated.

It's been a summer of settlements, with major companies such as Equifax, Capital One, and Amazon paying out millions — even billions — of dollars to consumers.
Whether you've been involved in a class action lawsuit, a personal injury lawsuit, or other type of case, settling out of court can result in a major windfall. And having a plan for what to do with that money can set you up for financial success for years to come.
The amount you can expect to receive from a settlement depends on the nature of the case.
For example, a class action settlement is an agreement that resolves a lawsuit brought by a group of people who experienced the same (or similar) harm from a company or other organization. The resulting payment may be distributed to each person as one lump sum or in structured installments over time.

NFL free agent Miles Sanders is facing a DUI charge after a June arrest near Pittsburgh in which police say they found the former Pro Bowl running back slumped over behind the wheel of a vehicle stopped in the middle of a highway.
Sanders, 29, was arrested June 8 in Churchill Borough and is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance and careless driving. TMZ reported the case on Aug. 27 after court records detailing the arrest became public.
The arrest occurred close to where Sanders grew up and played at Woodland Hills High School before attending Penn State. He is currently unsigned after spending the 2025 season with the Dallas Cowboys, where knee and ankle injuries ended his year after four games.
Sanders' attorney has declined to discuss the allegations in detail. The DUI case remains pending, and Sanders has not been convicted of the charge.
An officer found Sanders in the driver's seat of a silver Lexus that was motionless in the middle of William Penn Highway near Beulah Drive, according to the criminal complaint obtained by CBS Pittsburgh. Police said several attempts were made to wake him. The complaint describes Sanders as "in and out of consciousness," "extremely lethargic" and unable or unwilling to answer questions as officers tried to make contact with him.

NEW YORK — Defense is supposed to be George Lombard Jr.'s superpower, but the Yankees rookie is in the midst of a serious fielding slump.
The shortstop now has six errors in six consecutive games after booting a ground ball in Thursday's 5-1 loss to the Astros. The bizarre streak continued on a bizarre play in the eighth inning, as Lombard, on the run, bounced the ball to and nearly collided with third baseman José Caballero, who then committed an error of his own when he airmailed a throw to first.
While it was Caballero's throw that allowed a run to score, it was Lombard's half of the play that drew attention after yet another mishap. Afterward, the frustrated 21-year-old acknowledged that he needs to "clean up" his defense, especially with the Yankees trying to catch the Rays for the division lead and fend off the incoming Red Sox for the American League's top Wild Card spot.
"I don't know. It's something you're trying to figure out," Lombard, who made just one error in his first 14 MLB games, said when asked why he's had such a tough time in the field lately. "Obviously, it's not acceptable. Can't happen at this level. If you make your pitchers have to get extra outs, it just makes it way harder on us."
Meanwhile, Aaron Boone said, "I don't think so" when asked if Lombard, who has played everyday since debuting on Aug. 4, could benefit from a day off. Instead, the manager said that he has "total confidence" that Lombard will put this unusual stretch "in the rearview mirror."

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Malaysian former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob was charged Thursday with failing to declare his ****** ets, making him the nation's third leader to face criminal charges after leaving office.
Ismail, 66, pleaded not guilty to a charge under the anti-graft law that alleged he failed to provide a complete declaration of ****** ets following a notice from the anti-corruption agency in January 2025. The charge sheet lists large amounts of cash in Malaysian and foreign currencies, as well as gold and silver.
If convicted, Ismail faces up to five years' imprisonment and a fine of up to 100,000 ringgit ($24,810).
Ismail, the country's ninth leader, unexpectedly became prime minister without a general election after emerging as a consensus figure during a turbulent political period. He was the shortest-serving leader, leading for only 15 months from August 2021 to November 2022.
After leaving office, Ismail has been questioned multiple times by anti-graft officials for possible misconduct involving millions of dollars spent on government publicity during his tenure. The anti-graft agency has also seized gold bars and some $40 million in cash from properties linked to him.

The 2026 US Open begins in earnest on Sunday, and it's hard to think of a time when this tournament felt so wide open among both men and women.
There is no Jannik Sinner. There might not be a fully healthy Carlos Alcaraz or Novak Djokovic. Aryna Sabalenka, the two-time defending champion, has been in a slump. Seven different women have won the past seven Grand Slams.
There's no telling how it will work out, with multiple layers of drama built into the draw. Let's get into all of that.
This is becoming a problem.
More than any sport, men's tennis has been defined by its rivalries. Borg-McEnroe, Sampras-Agassi, Federer-Nadal-Djokovic. ***** ans of the sport, regularly facing each other in the biggest spots. Sinner-Alcaraz is supposed to be the next chapter of that, and some of their clashes are already legendary.

NEW YORK - With a clean all-around showing, the Houston Astros claimed a series at Yankee Stadium on Thursday. Four pitchers combined to allow five hits. Their lineup scratched out three runs against Gerrit Cole and two more against relievers. After a horrid homestand and a front-office shakeup, they took two of three against the Yankees and maintained a one-game division lead.
No city knows better the importance of a full cast, but here were three key players in a 5-1 win Thursday:
Christian Walker, who entered Wednesday mired in a slump, provided some valuable breathing room with a two-run homer off Yankees starter Gerrit Cole (Jim McIsaac/Getty Images)
Walker entered Thursday in a 6-for-50 funk, with one home run in August. The first baseman said that he worked on a swing adjustment pregame to free up his hands.
"The feel the last few days hasn't been there," Walker said. "I felt stuck, like it was hard to get inside of sinkers. So pregame today just tried to get out of my own way and get free, just set up the machine and let the hands work, try not to get too clunky, keep my body out of the way."

Alluvial Capital Management's Q2 2026 investor letter for the Alluvial Fund reported a 4.9% return, with a year-to-date increase to 8.0%. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. While these results are acceptable, they are overshadowed by the impressive performance of small-cap and micro-cap stocks, particularly in AI and semiconductor sectors. The portfolio remains stable and focused on dependable cash flow producers, although it sometimes lags in momentum-driven markets. July showed improvement for Alluvial Fund as benchmarks declined. The author emphasizes the importance of a dependable investment strategy focused on solid cash flow producers, while expressing confidence that the portfolio's intrinsic value discount will lessen over time. The letter aims to communicate the fund's approach and highlights potential opportunities in overlooked sectors, urging a long-term investment perspective amidst current market trends. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.
In its Q2 2026 investor letter, Alluvial Fund highlighted Vistance Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:VISN) as a newly added position. Vistance Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:VISN) is a global provider of infrastructure solutions for communications, data center, and entertainment networks. On August 26, 2026, Vistance Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:VISN) closed at $11.05 per share, reflecting a market capitalization of $2.55 billion. Vistance Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:VISN) posted a one-month return of -5.64%, while its shares lost 30.76% over the past 52 weeks.
Alluvial Fund stated the following regarding Vistance Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:VISN) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Vistance Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:VISN), a new holding for Alluvial Fund, is a company in the midst of dismantling itself. Over the past twelve months, Vistance has sold its two largest businesses. Vistance is now down to just one remaining operating ****** et, Aurora Networks, which manufactures equipment for cable networks like Comcast and Charter. It's not a wonderful business—results are lumpy and customer concentration is high—but it is not going away. Faced with relentless competition from fiber and wireless internet alternatives, cable operators have no choice but to continue to invest in speed and reliability upgrades. On the heels of this radical reduction in scale, I don't think Vistance stays independent. Management has gone from running an enterprise doing almost $7 billion in annual sales to one doing just $1 billion. Once it pays out the proceeds from its latest business sale, Vistance will have a market capitalization below $1 billion. As a newly-minted micro-cap company, it might as well be invisible. Being a listed, SEC-reporting micro-cap comes with all the headaches and annoyances of being public, but without most of the benefits. Given the choice between fading into irrelevance as a micro-cap network equipment maker and achieving a neat resolution (and a nice liquidity event for management,

Why Stephanie White never lost faith in Lexie Hull during Fever shooting slump originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Lexie Hull's place in the Indiana Fever starting lineup was not dependent on whether her shots were falling. That was the message from coach Stephanie White after Hull broke out of a prolonged offensive slump during Indiana's 113-90 victory over the Chicago Sky.
Hull scored 14 points on an efficient 6-of-8 shooting, made two 3-pointers and added two rebounds in 26 minutes. It was her first double-digit scoring performance since July 9 against the Phoenix Mercury.
The breakthrough came after a difficult stretch in which Hull recorded four scoreless games despite continuing to start for one of the WNBA's top teams. White acknowledged that the slump affected Hull, but it did not change how the guard approached her responsibilities.
"Certainly was struggling with confidence, but you could never tell in the way that she shows up," White said Wednesday. "She's always going to show up. She's always going to stay ready."

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the MLB. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Padres fans and fans across the country.
It has been a season of opportunity for some of the players on the San Diego Padres roster. Some of those players have taken full advantage of their opportunity and that could result in more playing time, higher expectations or in some cases more money.
France signed with the Padres in the offseason on a minor league deal. He was promised nothing but an opportunity to make the team and the Gold Glove Award winner did that out of Spring Training. There was a time where he and Gavin Sheets and Nick Castellanos were all expected to share time at first base and France was thought to possibly be the odd man out. His play turned not only allowed him to outlast Castellanos on the San Diego roster, but it also cemented him into the No. 4 hole in the lineup. France has performed on defense and has provided production at the plate. He has 344 at-bats with 99 hits, 18 of which were home runs, for a .288 average. France also has 56 RBI, 44 runs scored and has even stolen a base.
Campusano finally got some regular playing time under new Padres manager Craig Stammen. The catcher finally had a manager who was going to allow him to play free and play often without the fear of being sent back to the minors the first time he hit a slump or failed to block a ball in the dirt. Campusano has responded with a solid season in which he has amassed 143 at-bats with 41 hits, five home runs, 23 RBI and 18 runs scored. He holds a .287 average on the season and has been able to catch and serve as the designated hitter throughout the season.
Buehler, like France, was only promised an opportunity. He got more of a chance than he thought when Joe Musgrove was unable to be ready to return to the mound following Tommy John surgery and Nick PIvetta went down with arm issues early in the season. Randy Vasquez started the season strong but quickly faded. Buehler has had some duds this season, but overall, he has been a consistent starter for a team that was limited to Michael King in terms of pitchers who could take the mound and instill confidence in the team and the fanbase. Buehler has appeared in and started 26 games in 2026. He has a record of 8-6 with a 4.63 ERA. He has thrown 126.1 innings and has 108 strikeouts over that span. He is 3-1 in his last seven games with a 2.89 ERA and has only gotten better as the regular season winds down.

The Jacksonville Jaguars' offensive line unit took its lumps during Tuesday's joint practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, specifically in pass protection.
John Shipley of Jaguars on SI put together his good and not-so-good from the practice, and in the latter category was the offensive line's play in pass pro.
Shipley noted that the Bucs' defensive front was generating pressure from "a few different spots." In a separate article, Shipley noted that Reuben Bain Jr. found his share of success against the Jaguars' tackles not named Anton Harrison.
From the Jaguars' perspective, hopefully this was just a down day against a stout Bucs' pass rush and not a sign of what's to come this season.
Jacksonville has been getting healthier up front and potentially had their Week 1 offensive line configuration on the field. This unit consisted of Harrison at left tackle, followed by Emmanuel Pregnon, Robert Hainsey, Ezra Cleveland, and Walker Little, according to Shipley.

Esmerlyn Valdez finally found one. After 24 games without a home run, Valdez turned on a 90 mph fastball from Robbie Ray on Monday night and sent it 413 feet into the left-center-field seats at Petco Park. The ball left his bat at 111.6 mph, giving Pittsburgh its first run in 22 innings and ending the longest power drought of Valdez's young major-league career. It was the kind of swing that made him look like one of baseball's most terrifying rookies earlier this summer. It was also a reminder of why the Pirates cannot let the month that came before scare them away.
Valdez's first exposure to the majors looked almost unfair. Then pitchers adjusted, the strikeouts piled up, and the home runs vanished. That is not evidence that Pittsburgh was fooled by a hot start. It is the part of a rookie season where the league hands back the test with different questions. Now Valdez gets to answer them.
Jul 20, 2026; Bronx, New York, USA; Pittsburgh Pirates right fielder Esmerlyn Valdez (55) hits a two-run home run during the third inning against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images
Pittsburgh desperately needed somebody to do something Monday. The Pirates had gone 22 consecutive innings without scoring, matching their longest drought of the season, before Valdez stepped to the plate in the sixth inning. His slump-breaking homer did more than remove a zero from the scoreboard. It provided the first sign in weeks of the devastating power that defined his arrival.
Rafael Flores followed with an RBI double later in the inning, and Nick Gonzales eventually delivered the winning hit in the 12th as Pittsburgh escaped with a 3-2 victory. The game mattered for a team clinging to distant postseason hopes, but Valdez's swing may have mattered more for what Pittsburgh needs to learn over the final month. The Pirates already know Valdez can punish a mistake. They need to find out what happens after the league stops making as many of them. Monday's homer was his 15th despite having only 205 at-bats this season.

Worapon Lukjaoporongtom has waited through three botched attempts to finally share the ring with Lenny Blasi. On Friday, August 28, he plans to ensure the fourth meeting does not last any longer than necessary.
The 23-year-old Thai sensation faces the Italian in the highly anticipated bantamweight Muay Thai main event of The Inner Circle 28, streaming exclusively on live.onefc.com in Asia primetime from Bangkok's iconic Lumpinee Stadium.
The Sor Dechapan representative arrives in the best form of his ONE Championship career, having won three straight bouts in 2026. Now, Worapon finally gets the opponent who has repeatedly crossed his path without ever making it to fight night.

Hyundai Motor and its labour union have arrived at a tentative wage agreement, bringing an end to a period of industrial action that had hit production at the South Korean automaker.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the breakthrough came during the 17th round of negotiations between the two parties.
Under the terms agreed, monthly base pay will rise by Won100,000 ($72.20), alongside a performance bonus worth more than 400% of monthly salary and a separate lump-sum payment of Won12.5m.
"The two sides agreed to transparently share information on new projects and their implementation processes, and jointly respond to future changes in the industry", the company was quoted as saying.
Yonhap also reported that the retirement age will be pushed back from 60 to 65, though this element of the deal depends on corresponding changes to relevant laws and regulations.

Almost every Italian boy grows up with a football at his feet and a dream already decided for him. Lenny Blasi took a different road entirely, and it led him somewhere far more extraordinary.
On Friday, August 28, that journey continues at its most demanding destination yet. Blasi headlines The Inner Circle 28 against surging Thai veteran Worapon Lukjaoporongtom in a bantamweight Muay Thai main event, streaming exclusively for members on live.onefc.com in Asia primetime from Bangkok's historic Lumpinee Stadium.
Before the biggest fight of his career, the 22-year-old opened up about his unlikely rise. What follows is the story of a young man who never expected to find Muay Thai, fell for it completely, and is now chasing something far greater than the sport ever promised.
In Italy, football is not just a sport. It is an ingrained expectation, claiming most children long before they can even ask why. For Blasi, however, the path was never that straightforward.
His parents deliberately resisted the pull of the pitch, gently nudging their young son toward something different. That early redirection, small and unassuming at the time, would quietly alter the entire course of his life.

SEATTLE (AP) — Cal Raleigh busted out of a season-long slump with the first three-homer game of his career Monday night.
The switch-hitting catcher capped a five-run first inning with a two-run shot off struggling Philadelphia Phillies ace Zack Wheeler. Raleigh added a leadoff homer against Wheeler in the fifth and a solo drive off reliever Chase Shugart in the seventh to give him 17 home runs this season.
It was the first multihomer game of the year for Raleigh, who finished 3 for 3 with a walk in a 9-2 victory and raised his batting average from .159 to .167.
Raleigh was runner-up for the AL MVP award last year, when he led the majors with 60 home runs and added 125 RBIs.

Tampa Bay had lost seven of its last 10, but never trailed against the Tigers, who have lost six straight and nine of 10 to fall behind in the race for the final AL wild card.
Rasmussen (14-5) allowed one run to win his seventh straight start. It is the second longest streak in franchise history, trailing only Blake Snell's nine-start streak in 2018.
Bryan Baker pitched the ninth for his 38th save.
Detroit starter Framber Valdez (8-9) gave up four runs — three earned — on eight hits in six innings. He walked two without striking out a batter.

I'm building additional passive income streams to supplement my paycheck. Every month, I receive dividend payments from Realty Income (NYSE:O), Main Street Capital (NYSE:MAIN), and EPR Properties (NYSE:EPR). It's like getting another paycheck each month, except I didn't have to do any work for the money.
I like investing in these monthly dividend stocks because the recurring cash flow gives me a set amount to reinvest each month until I retire, when it will then help cover some of my living expenses. That beats the lumpier quarterly cadence of most other dividend stocks. Here's a look at why I chose this particular trio of monthly dividend payers.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »

Realty Income is the gold standard among monthly dividend stocks. The real estate investment trust (REIT) has declared 674 consecutive monthly dividends. It has raised its payment for 115 consecutive quarters and 135 times since its 1994 listing on the NYSE. The REIT has increased its payment annually for more than three decades, growing it at a 4.1% compound annual rate. It's as consistent an income stock as they come.

The hope is that preseason action can provide some answers to pressing questions that a team may have. But for the Indianapolis Colts, Saturday's performance against Atlanta only raised more questions around three specific position groups.
The depth of the cornerback, defensive end, and offensive line units was brought into focus during that game and, if called upon this upcoming season, could be a potential problem for the Colts.
Whether or not those around Laiatu Latu can generate steady pressure this season has been an unknown all offseason. The preseason hasn't provided many answers either. The combination of Caden Curry, George Gumbs, Micheal Clemons, and Jaylahn Tuimoloau played a total of 58 pass rush snaps and generated three pressures. Tuimoloau and Clemons didn't have any.
Laiatu Latu will lead the way and Arden Key will start opposite of him, but defensive end is a heavily rotated position with four or five players seeing steady snaps. Can the Colts get consistent production from the rotational defenders at this position?
The depth of this unit was thought to be quite good during the offseason, but the preseason has proved otherwise. The trio of Mekhi Blackmon, Rob Carter Jr., and Johnathan Edwards all took their lumps on Saturday and throughout the preseason.
