The Baltimore Ravens have traditionally directed their largest investments toward quarterbacks, offensive linemen and defensive stars. Zay Flowers' extension reflects an evolving approach.
Baltimore agreed to a four-year, $140 million extension with Flowers that includes $108 million guaranteed. The contract makes him the highest-paid receiver in franchise history and places his $35 million annual average in a tie for fourth among NFL wide receivers.
That is a substantial commitment for an organization that spent years attempting to supplement its passing game through veteran acquisitions and draft picks. Flowers has given Baltimore a reason to change its strategy.
The former Boston College standout has produced 237 receptions for 3,128 yards and 14 touchdowns through three seasons. He has earned two Pro Bowl selections, recorded consecutive 1,000-yard campaigns and set the franchise's single-season wide receiver record with 1,211 yards in 2025.
His extension indicates that Baltimore wants its passing offense to be more than a complement to Lamar Jackson's mobility and Derrick Henry's power. Flowers gives offensive coordinator Declan Doyle a movable playmaker capable of threatening defenses horizontally and vertically.

Another potential Pittsburgh Steelers trade partner has emerged following a devastating NFL injury update at training camp.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Atlanta Falcons 2025 first-round edge rusher James Pearce is feared to have suffered a torn ACL at training camp. If the Falcons are hoping to keep their defense competitive in 2026, Steelers edge rusher Alex Highsmith makes for an intriguing trade candidate.
Highsmith, who has served as a standout edge rusher over the past several seasons, is facing an uncertain future with Pittsburgh. Highsmith is set to become a free agent following the 2027 season, and with the Steelers unlikely to offer him an extension following Nick Herbig's $100 million deal, a trade seems like the best route for both sides.
The NFC South has quietly emerged as an interesting trade destination for Highsmith, as the Carolina Panthers have already lost a starting edge rusher in training camp, and now the Falcons have joined the mix. However, one could argue that these recent injuries could actually prove why the Steelers prefer depth over trade capital.

The fact that Aaron Rodgers's scorched-earth attack on Dr. Anthony Fauci and ESPN, while appearing on ESPN, has prompted a comment from the team and a question to the head coach makes it, necessarily, a distraction.
Still, coach Mike McCarthy's goal will be to keep any of it from interfering with the task at hand.
"You know, these are grown men," McCarthy told reporters on Tuesday. "They all have different opinions. There's no question about that. But at the end of the day, my job is to keep it about football, keep the focus on winning. That's why we're here. We have a good locker room. We have a player council that's in place and we had our second meeting yesterday, and so I think we're in a good spot."
It remains to be seen whether Rodgers's rollicking Monday appearance with Pat McAfee was a one-time thing, or whether Rodgers will revert to his pre-2025 habit of showing up on the show every week — and saying whatever he wants.
It also remains to be seen whether, if/when the Steelers encounter adversity, McCarthy's methods will become a direct or indirect subject of Rodgers's current approach (as he said on Monday) of no longer giving a **** .

Ohio State's tight end room looks completely different entering 2026, but that doesn't mean the position is any weaker. In fact, there is a strong argument that it is deeper than it has been in years.
Gone are Max Klare, Will Kacmarek, and Jelani Thurman. Together, they accounted for virtually every meaningful snap at tight end over the last two seasons. Replacing that experience was never going to come from one player.
Instead, Ryan Day attacked the position by **** embling a room where every player has a defined role, and together, they may give the Buckeyes more flexibility than they've had in a long time.
The hierarchy entering fall camp appears fairly straightforward. Nate Roberts projects as the clear TE1. Mason Williams looks like the favorite for TE2. Behind them, Hunter Welcing and Bennett Christian are battling for rotational snaps, while Maxence LeBlanc and Brody Lennon continue developing as future contributors.
The names may not yet carry the same national recognition as previous Ohio State tight end rooms, but the fit of each player within Arthur Smith and Ryan Day's offense makes this group one of the more fascinating position battles on the roster.

The gloves are coming off once again for Aspen Ladd.
Ladd, a former UFC and PFL fighter, will give it a second go in bareknuckle boxing when she makes her BKB debut. The promotion on Tuesday announced that Ladd is set to meet Bianca Daimoni at BKB 58 on Aug. 29 from James L. Knight Center in Miami.
Ladd, 31, first tried her hand at bareknuckle in BKFC last November when she knocked out Shyanna Bintliff in the first round at BKFC 84.
Ladd's move to bareknuckle came 15 months after her most recent MMA fight in the PFL, a unanimous decision win over Ekaterina Shakalova at Bellator Champions Series 2 in May 2024.
Ladd spent five years in the UFC and competed seven times in the octagon, going 4-3 during her tenure.

Bijan Robinson's deal is done, and Jahmyr Gibbs could be next.
Robinson, who led the NFL in scrimmage yards last season, ended his hold-in Tuesday, Aug. 4, when he agreed to a three-year extension that averages $22.25 million per season, ESPN and NFL Network reported.
The market-setting deal makes Robinson the highest-paid running back in the NFL and could offer the framework for Gibbs to end his hold-in with the Detroit Lions.
Before Robinson's deal, Saquon Barkley ($20.6 million) was the only running back in the NFL making more than $20 million per season. Gibbs is set to make $3.183 million in base salary and bonuses this season and has two years left on his rookie contract.
"I mean, it's certainly not going to hurt," Lions coach Dan Campbell said Tuesday when asked if Robinson's deal could expedite a new contract for Gibbs. "It's not going to hurt, but we'll see. We'll see."

The Atlanta Dream played host to the Las Vegas Aces on Monday night in a matchup of two teams firmly in the WNBA playoff picture entering the last two months of the regular season. The night was even more special for Atlanta as it celebrated "Barbie Night," which honored star forward Angel Reese, whose nickname is "Barbie."
Reese recently debuted her own signature Barbie doll with Mattel, featuring Reese's ponytail, pink nails, and an all-pink game-day look, and talked before the game about the importance of having a doll that young black dolls could play with.
"I didn't have a lot of dolls because I didn't have dolls that looked like me much, and that's why I kind of wanna really wanted to make sure this was super intentional," she said before the game.
Although the Dream lost in blowout fashion, with a final score of 109-87, Reese made sure to leave her mark on the floor. She finished the game with only a -3 +/- in a game Atlanta lost by 22 points, and scored 23 points of her own on an efficient 10-for-19 from the field, all while snagging 16 rebounds and making a massive impact defensively.
As great as she was, some fans were upset about one play involving Reese in the second half, as the game was starting to get out of hand. During the play in question, Reese inadvertently elbows Aces defender Stephanie Talbot in the face as she makes a move to the basket. Surprisingly, Talbot was called for the foul, and Reese stood over her and made the "and-1" gesture while Talbot held her face on the ground.

It has been a good offseason for running backs named Robinson in Atlanta.
After signing Brian Robinson Jr. in free agency to solidify the backup running back role, the Atlanta Falcons opted to take care of the star that tops the depth chart.
Bijan Robinson and the Falcons have agreed to a three-year extension worth $66.75 million with a max value of $75 million, according to reports. The deal makes Robinson the highest-paid running back in NFL history, surpassing the $20.6 million-per-year mark set by Eagles back Saquon Barkley.
While there is always debate about the positional value of running backs, Robinson has been worth the price of admission. Selected with the No. 8 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the running back became an instant star in the pros.
Robinson's deal resets the running back market and puts extra pressure on teams with their own running backs seeking extensions: the Detroit Lions, with Jahmyr Gibbs, and the Indianapolis Colts, with Jonathan Taylor.

Bijan Robinson has not been practicing at Falcons training camp amid contract negotiations, but it looks like it is time for him to get on the field.
According to multiple reports, Robinson has agreed to a three-year extension in Atlanta. Robinson was under contract through 2027 with an $11.323 million salary locked in for the final year after the Falcons exercised their fifth-year option on his rookie deal.
The extension is reportedly worth up to $75 million with $51 million in guaranteed money and $37 million at signing. The base value is $66.75 million, which makes Robinson the highest-paid running back in the league in average annual salary.
Robinson may not remain in that spot for long, however. Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs and Colts running back Jonathan Taylor are also looking for extensions, so the picture at the top could change in the near future.
Wherever Robinson winds up, the move is the latest in a series of big deals for members of the Falcons offense. Wide receiver Drake London, tight end Kyle Pitts, and guard Matthew Bergeron have also signed long-term deals with the team this offseason.

New Dodgers pitcher Tarik Skubal met with reporters on Monday at Wrigley Field in Chicago, one day after he was acquired as the showcase piece of this year's trade deadline, and one day before the left-hander makes his pitching debut with his new team.

"Every team could trade for me," Skubal said. "Every team can make that acquisition. I don't really sympathize with people that blame the Dodgers for anything they've done."
Skubal had kind words to say about his new team, per Maddie Lee of the Los Angeles Times:

Now the complaints seem to be [happening] because they've won the last two World Series. I don't think it was like that three years ago. So I don't really sympathize with people that are complaining. There's no denying adding Giannis Antetokounmpo makes Miami better, but the rest of the roster raises a lot of questions.
The Heat gave up much of their future to make the blockbuster move, leaving them with no future and very little depth. While their frontcourt is probably the league's best, the backcourt lacks perimeter scoring and, I can confidently say, they are the worst backcourt in the league.

Liverpool's transfer window has reached a telling point. The names are glamorous, the prices severe, and the needs increasingly clear. According to The Athletic, the club have now "began preparing a formal approach for Bradley Barcola, the Paris Saint-Germain winger who is their top transfer target". That sentence alone captures both ambition and urgency.
There is no disguising the scale of the task facing Andoni Iraola in his first season as Liverpool head coach. He inherits a squad with obvious quality, but also one in flux, one hit by injuries, one still adapting after a disappointing 2025-26 campaign and one requiring shrewd, decisive surgery before the window closes. Liverpool are acting in the wide areas first, and that makes complete sense.
Barcola is the headline pursuit, and with good reason. The report states that "the wheels are in motion, and Liverpool want to do the deal at around £100million. PSG have indicated they value him at around £145m." That gap is substantial, but the very fact Liverpool are willing to enter the conversation tells its own story. This is a chase for an elite attacker, a player viewed as capable of refreshing the front line and restoring menace to the flanks.
It is a summer that demands clarity. Liverpool have already lost Mohamed Salah, and Hugo Ekitike's long-term injury has further thinned the attack. In that context, the Barcola pursuit feels far more than opportunistic. It looks essential.
The Athletic's ***** sment is straightforward and persuasive: "Bringing in the Frenchman would certainly be a statement signing, and significantly boost an attacking line that is depleted following the exit of Mohamed Salah and the long-term loss of Hugo Ekitike to injury." Liverpool's thinking hardly needs translating. They need speed, invention, penetration and goals from wide positions, and Barcola appears to fit that brief.

Not all big seasons come from the teams ranked high in the preseason rankings. The mid-level of the CFN preseason college football rankings represents something more important overall.

Power.

Oh sure, everyone circles the games against Ohio State, and Alabama, and Notre Dame, Michigan, and Georgia. But what makes a power conference so strong? It's that nasty midsection of games that make the body blows add up.

Great, you got by Clemson. Now beat SMU, and then Florida State, and then a Wake Forest team that few will pay attention to, but has the stuff to win nine games like last year's version did.

These teams might be just outside of our preseason top 25, but you'd better take them all seriously.

Is the "Raw after SummerSlam" a thing? We all know WWE makes a big deal out of the first "Raw after 'Mania," usually setting up a few surprises to mark the occasion. For this year's post-SummerSlam show, they'd already promised at least one big return (quite literally). But wouldn't you know it, there wound up being a few other twists along the road as the show rolled through Des Moines, Iowa.
Here's what went down on this week's installment of pro-wrestling's longest-running show.
Tonight's show kicked off with the WWE World Heavyweight Champion making his way to the ring to bask in the glory of Sunday night's superb victory over Seth Rollins. Is it me or did Roman Reigns sound a little husky at first? (Which is perhaps unsurprising after that slobberknocker of a match from last night.)
Of course, the smart folks in Iowa knew the drill: when a victorious champion turns up to gloat, you just know he or she is going to get interrupted by his next challenger before long. But how many of them expected LA Knight to be the man to shoot his shot? Judging by the massive pop that accompanied the start of his theme music, not many.
"The Megastar" was also riding high on his successes from the weekend, having pinned Jey Uso to win the Babyfaces vs. Bloodline match. He worked his usual magic on the mic and even got a chuckle out of Reigns with his impression of The Shield's entrance music. The fact that Knight was wearing his trademark shades brought back instant memories of the last time these two collided, back at Crown Jewel in 2022.

The MLB Trade Deadline has come to pass, and while it didn't feature a ton of superstars changing organizations -- the Tarik Skubal trade being the obvious exception -- there were plenty of good players moved before the clock struck midnight, or 6:00 p.m. ET to be more specific.
And in exchange for those quality players, several talented prospects changed organizations over the deadline, with some seeing their stock rise by joining a new club, and a few maybe in a more tenuous situation.
Here's the top ten fantasy MLB prospects who were dealt over the past few days.
There's some debate as to who the better "real-life" prospect is between Hope and River Ryan -- the two big names from the Skubal blockbuster -- but from a fantasy perspective, it's not particularly close. Hope is an outfielder who has a chance to help in five categories, and he joins the Detroit organization after slashing .293/.369/.530 with 23 homers and 18 stolen bases for Double-A Tulsa. The 21-year-old has easy plus power in his left-handed bat, and he complements that pop with well above-average speed. He makes plenty of hard contact as well, but hitting for average may be a little more difficult because of a willingness to work counts and some length to his swing. Hope offers more fantasy upside than any player on this list because of that power/speed combo, but his patience at the plate and quality defense gives him the highest floor, as well. That's a good combination, and Hope could be in Detroit by the end of 2026 or beginning of 2027.

The 2026 MLB Trade Deadline is finally behind us. It was a whirlwind day and a whirlwind week-plus since the first major domino fell on the trade market. In reality, we won't really know how teams did at this year's deadline until the World Series trophy is hoisted or some of the prospects who got dealt have more years of experience under their belt, but that's not a fun truth for this exercise. Instead, we're gonna talk about who won or lost the deadline right now, just after it all went down.
This was a super fun trade deadline. We had some out-of-left-field moves. We had some top 50 prospects get traded. We had some established veterans going to new teams, and we had some typically passive teams trying to be aggressive. It all made for an enjoyable trade deadline that I didn't see coming. Now don't ruin it by taking a whole year off from playing games.
Yes, Tarik Skubal is a winner even if people are suggesting that he and the Dodgers have broken baseball. He was traded to the odds-on favorite to win the World Series. That's a big win for any player, which I guess makes Kris Bubic a winner too.
We should also take a minute and call River Ryan a winner. The discourse about him online has been aggressively harsh and bordering on illogical. He didn't become a full-time pitcher until 2022, when he was 23 years old. He had a fully healthy 2023 and 2024 season, and even reached the majors in 2024 before he blew out his arm and needed UCL surgery. He missed the entire 2025 season recovering from that and then returned this season. He looked good in Triple-A before a hamstring injury sidelined him. I don't care that he's 27 years old. I don't think he's "injury ***** e"; he had one major arm injury and a hamstring injury. Is he a risk? Sure, but he's a talented pitcher, and he's eventually going to get to show it in Detroit.
Even if the Dodgers got Skubal, they might still have to go through the Boston Red Sox. Say what you want about how many prospects the Red Sox gave up today (and I will say some things later in this article), but they are certainly building a team to contend for this season. This team just swept the Dodgers on the road over the weekend and put together the best month of July of any team in baseball, so the front office decided they had to go for it. They added Adley Rutschman to provide a major upgrade at catcher for 2026 and 2027. They also added Eli White as a solid fourth outfielder who can defend and run the bases well, and then added Erik Miller as a solid left-handed reliever under team control through 2030, which the team really needed. Those are all solid pieces to add to a roster that is performing and plans to make a run in the playoffs. They gave up a lot of young players to get those pieces, but you certainly can't argue that the Red Sox are making a push to win in 2026.

But all in all, Moore's skills stuck out as being tremendously polished, a stark difference from when the nation had last seen him take the field as a true freshman with the UCLA Bruins.
The accolades are likely to roll in if Moore has the season that he's capable of as a senior, with a significant one being announced on Monday.
Moore has been added to The Maxwell Award watch list, an award given to the best all-around player in college football.
It's not the player with the most outstanding performance throughout the year, the criteria for winning the Heisman Trophy. Instead, The Maxwell Award caters to the entire package, which arguably favors Moore in that many of his throws aren't awe-inspiring or highlight-reel worthy — he just makes them look simple and easy.

"I was on the phone with my uncle/mentor and he was talking about how social media is just no good and then he went on to talk about how Twitter's especially not good—he was like, there's no need to even have Twitter," Umanmielen stated. "So then I did it, ain't been on there since.
"Twitter was step one—and then, I was gonna try to get off everything eventually. Instagram is the hardest. They done made some type of algorithm that made it super addicting, but I'm trying to at least take a few months break from all social media. So step one was Twitter."
He also spoke about getting more sleep, and embracing his faith after getting baptized.

Colorado Buffaloes and coach Deion Sanders opened fall camp on Monday with a long list of questions, but three players stand out above the rest when it comes to pressure. After a 3-9 season and a major roster reset, the Buffs need answers quickly, and these three are facing the biggest individual tests.
Lewis is the obvious headliner. The redshirt freshman is only 18, but he is now the face of Colorado and the player expected to drive Brennan Marion's offense. That is a heavy ask for any quarterback, much less one stepping into his first full season as the starter.
Colorado brought in Isaac Wilson to compete with him, but the job still is Lewis' to lose. He has to settle the offense quickly, get comfortable with Marion's Go-Go scheme and show he can handle a rebuilt line in front of him. If Colorado is going to get back on track, Lewis has to look the part from the start.
Hykeem Williams enters camp with a different kind of pressure. The former five-star receiver has the talent profile of a future star, but his college production has not matched up so far. He has 348 career receiving yards and two touchdowns, including just 81 yards last season.
Colorado's receiver room is deeper now, which makes Williams' job even harder. He has to stay healthy and show consistency by winning snaps in a crowded group that includes Danny Scudero and Kam Perry. If he does not separate quickly, he risks slipping further down the depth chart.

Los Angeles is acquiring left-handed pitcher Kris Bubic from the Kansas City Royals, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. The players heading to Kansas City were not immediately reported. Bubic is currently on the 60-day injured list after dealing with elbow soreness and a subsequent shoulder setback. He recently began a throwing progression, but there is no firm timetable for his return to a major league mound.
That makes this an intriguing deadline gamble for the Dodgers. Bubic went 3-2 with a 4.11 ERA and 1.23 WHIP over nine starts for Kansas City this season. He recorded 51 strikeouts across 50 1/3 innings before injuries interrupted his year. The 28-year-old is not necessarily an immediate solution for Los Angeles. If he can get healthy, however, he could provide the Dodgers with another experienced starting option for the stretch run and potentially the postseason.
Bubic last pitched for Kansas City on May 14, when he allowed five earned runs over four innings against the Chicago White Sox. He was initially sidelined by an elbow issue before later experiencing discomfort in his shoulder. Bubic began a throwing progression in late July, making 30 throws from distances between 45 and 60 feet.

Instead, Stephen Curry's partnership with apparel company Li-Ning points in the other direction. It binds one of America's most admired athletes to a Chinese company already under serious scrutiny for forced labor. **** ody can pretend the moral cost of doing business with Communist China is a mystery anymore.
What makes this so disappointing is that Curry is not simply a gifted player: He is a global figure whose public standing rests on more than championships. It rests on judgment, character and the sense that he takes serious things seriously. When a man like that signs a reported 10-year, $400 million deal with Li-Ning, he is not just changing brands. He is lending his good name to a company shadowed by one of the great human rights scandals of our time.
Sports at their best can do something rare. They can take fame, which is often fleeting and shallow, and turn it toward service. They can show that athletic greatness and moral witness do not have to live in separate worlds. That is why decisions like this matter. The larger the platform, the larger the responsibility.
Curry's decision is so troubling because it places the honor attached to athletic excellence beside a system of coercion. The U.S. Department of Labor states that since 2016 the Chinese Communist Party has subjected Uyghurs and other mostly Muslim minorities in Xinjiang "to genocide, state-imposed forced labor, and crimes against humanity." It describes labor transfers, surveillance, indoctrination and coercive factory work as part of a broad machinery of control.
These are not careless accusations. They are specific charges documented by the U.S. government and corroborated by international investigators.
