July 21 (Reuters) - Alphabet faces heightened scrutiny from investors as a delay in the launch of a model key to its AI ambitions adds to worries over the payoff from massive data-center spending, months after raising expectations with a blockbuster quarter for cloud sales.
The Google parent — set to report second-quarter results on Wednesday — has delayed from June the launch of its next flagship model, Gemini 3.5 Pro, built especially to catch up with rivals in the lucrative market for AI coding tools and agentic AI tasks.
The setback has raised concerns as Chinese open-source models increasingly challenge top U.S. labs for customers amid growing worries about steep AI bills that have also fanned fears that Big Tech could be over-building capacity.
"While Google is missing the boat on AI coding and that's a very real growing concern ... Google's strategy is all about the ecosystem," said Dave Wagner, portfolio manager at Aptus Capital Advisors.

Right now, the twin forces of the artificial intelligence (AI) build-out and relentless demand for connectivity are lifting some of the strongest names in technology and telecom. Here are five compelling stocks worth buying more of, starting with the one everyone is watching.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
Broadcom (NASDAQ: AVGO) has quietly become one of the most important companies in AI. It designs the custom chips that giants, including Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL) and Meta Platforms, use to run their own AI systems, and it dominates the networking gear that ties thousands of those chips together inside a data center. On top of that, its infrastructure software business, anchored by VMware, throws off steady, high-margin revenue that cushions the more cyclical chip side. With a massive AI order backlog and a clear path toward much larger AI sales, Broadcom pairs explosive growth with a diversified base most chipmakers lack.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (NYSE: TSM) is the company that builds the world's most advanced chips, including those designed by Broadcom and Nvidia. Its management recently called AI demand "extremely robust" and raised its growth outlook, while pouring another $100 billion into its Arizona campus and ramping its cutting-edge 2-nanometer technology. Because nearly every leading chip company depends on its factories, Taiwan Semiconductor sits at an irreplaceable chokepoint in the AI economy. That is about as wide a moat as you will find.
Alphabet combines the cash machine of Google Search with a fast-growing cloud business and its own leading AI models. The company is investing enormous sums, including a plan to raise tens of billions to fund its AI infrastructure, and it is weaving AI across its products rather than being disrupted by it. Notably, Berkshire Hathaway built a large stake in Alphabet, a vote of confidence from the most famous value investor's company that this is a wonderful business at a fair price.

CES, held annually in January, is one of the most important trade shows where tech companies go to unveil innovations and showcase bold ideas for the future.
At the 2026 event, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang offered something that has been just as impactful: his insights about the growing memory needs of artificial intelligence (AI). And based on where the stock prices of Micron Technology (NASDAQ: MU) and Sandisk (NASDAQ: SNDK) have gone since then, his understand of the situation was right on the money.

Large language models are being asked to deliver on requests promptly, but there's also a growing expectation that these tools will preserve users' older requests and conversations as time savers to provide context for the new ones. That requires increasingly higher memory capacity in the data centers that power those AIs, which Huang alluded to in his January CES speech:
We would like this AI to stay with us our entire lives and remember every single conversation we've ever had with it, right? Every single lick of research that I've asked for. Of course, the number of people sharing the supercomputer will continue to grow. And so, this context memory, which started out fitting inside an HBM, is no longer large enough.

July 16 (Reuters) - Trump Media & Technology Group has unveiled a paid-for, licensed data feed that will give banks and trading firms "the fastest" access to posts from influential Truth Social accounts, such as President Donald Trump's, whose posts often move global markets.
The product, called "Truth API," will deliver posts from the 10 most influential accounts to customers at a significantly faster pace than a regular push notification on the Truth Social platform, a spokesperson said.
The feed is designed for organizations "most impacted by the cost of a delay in information", such as algorithmic trading firms, the company said in a statement. "Until now... firms that prioritize tracking influential Truth posts have relied on manual monitoring. Truth API closes the gap."
The move is TMTG's first step into data-licensing, and opens up a new revenue stream for the company, which has faced challenges in scaling its media business amid stiff competition from larger social media firms.

Wholesale inflation dipped in June, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Wednesday, with the Producer Price Index for final demand falling 0.3%. It marked the first time the index has moved lower on a monthly basis since August 2025. And the June pullback in wholesale prices came before the ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran collapsed, driving oil prices higher again.
Final demand prices had risen 0.6% in May and 1.1% in April. On an annual basis, the index for final demand rose 5.5% through June.
The June decline was driven by a 1.4% drop in prices for final demand goods — the largest such decrease since July 2022, when goods prices fell 1.9%. Energy prices led the goods decline, falling 6.4% for the month. Food prices also slipped 0.6%. Prices for final demand goods excluding food and energy edged up 0.2%.
Gasoline accounted for nearly two-thirds of the June decline in final demand goods prices, dropping 12%. Diesel fuel, jet fuel, fresh vegetables, crude petroleum, and thermoplastic resins also fell. Plastic products and residential electric power were among the categories that posted increases.
Final demand services prices rose 0.2% in June after falling 0.1% in May. More than 60% of that gain came from trade services margins, which advanced 0.4%. Margins for fuels and lubricants retailing jumped 13%, accounting for roughly half of the services increase. Margins for machinery and vehicle wholesaling declined 8.4%.

The question for income investors: is the uptrend a signal the distribution is safer than it has been in years, or a warning that midstream is running hot?

Vistry Group expects a first-half loss before tax of about GBP 30 million after actions to reduce debt, but it is still holding its full-year adjusted profit guidance at around GBP 200 million.
New CEO Adam Daniels said the company will keep its partnership strategy, but it needs to run with much lower leverage and is reviewing operations, geography, land holdings, and overheads to make the business more capital efficient.
Despite weaker market conditions, Vistry expects a stronger second half with significant debt reduction and a year-end cash position above GBP 100 million; management also said banking relationships remain solid and there is no expectation of a covenant breach.
Vistry Group (LON:VTY) said it expects a first-half loss before tax of about GBP 30 million after cash-generation actions, while maintaining full-year adjusted profit guidance of around GBP 200 million and outlining plans to reduce leverage under new Chief Executive Adam Daniels.

Oil prices moved modestly higher on Tuesday after renewed security incidents in the Strait of Hormuz revived concerns over potential disruptions to global energy shipments, offsetting expectations of stronger supply from OPEC+ producers.
By 04:41 ET (08:41 GMT), Brent crude futures had risen 1.1% to US$72.77 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude futures gained 1.1% to US$69.30 a barrel.
According to Axios, citing two US officials, Iran's military launched at least two missiles at commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Monday night, ending a week-long pause in attacks under an informal understanding between Washington and Tehran.
The report added that the United States is expected to respond with strikes against Iranian targets.
Earlier on Tuesday, the UK Maritime Trade Operations agency confirmed it had received a report that a tanker travelling near the coast of Oman had been struck by an unidentified projectile, causing a fire onboard. Although Iran has not officially claimed responsibility, anonymous sources cited by Iranian state television suggested the target was a tanker carrying liquefied natural gas from Qatar.

Most investors agree with the most basic of investing advice. That is, "buy low, sell high." On the other hand, most veteran investors also know that stocks can continue rallying even when they seemingly shouldn't.
That's a conundrum everyone's facing right now. The S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) and its corresponding funds, like the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (NYSEMKT: VOO) or the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSEMKT: SPY), are back within sight of record highs reached in early June. It still feels like we're overdue for a full-blown correction. But there's also no denying the persistent bullishness hints of more gains ahead. What should investors do?

The stock market is showing some encouraging signs with two bullish candlesticks in a row, and if that continues, bull put spread trades could do well.
To execute a bull put spread, an investor would sell a naked put and then buy a further out-of-the-money put to create a spread.

Interested in iShares Biotechnology ETF? Here are five stocks we like better.
Investors are beginning to rotate away from the most crowded AI-related trades.
Five areas stand out as potential shelters: biotech, industrials, utilities, consumer staples and dividend quality.
The strongest setups combine defensive characteristics, relative strength and exposure to durable long-term demand.
The AI trade has powered this market for the better part of two years, but the past couple of weeks have served as a reminder that no trend moves in a straight line. As volatility has crept back into high-flying AI and technology names, a quiet rotation has been underway beneath the surface. Capital has begun flowing toward areas of the market largely ignored during the AI frenzy, and the relative strength emerging in certain corners warrants close attention.

For its fiscal third-quarter earnings report, Micron Technology (NASDAQ: MU) announced monster results. Earnings per share (EPS) of $25.11 and revenue of $41.5 billion easily beat Bloomberg **** yst consensus EPS estimates of $20.39 and revenue estimates of $35.1 billion.
For its upcoming fiscal fourth quarter, the memory chipmaker expects revenue to fall in the range of $49 billion to $51 billion. That would beat **** ysts' consensus estimates of $43.2 billion.
Continue »
Those results gave the stock price an immediate boost after earnings, pushing it above $1,000 per share. That may leave some wondering whether a stock split is now more likely in the company's foreseeable future.
There's a perception that stock splits have benefits, but that can be separated between what's more concrete and what's investor psychology. There is evidence that stock splits can help push prices higher, according to data published by Statista sourced from Bank of America's Research Investment Committee.

Dan Ives of Wedbush Securities has a specific name for what is happening to tech stocks right now. In a note published June 26, he called it a "Twilight Zone market," Seeking Alpha reported, and the phrase is more specific than it sounds.
Microsoft (MSFT), Nvidia (NVDA), Meta Platforms (META), and Palantir (PLTR) have all sold off sharply in recent weeks. At the same time, Micron Technology (MU), which supplies memory chips to the AI infrastructure those same companies are building, just reported blowout earnings and hit fresh highs.
Ives thinks investors have run out of patience at a specific moment in a much longer cycle. The AI story, in his reading, is still intact.
Wedbush's note traced the disconnect to two specific concerns, Benzinga reported. The first is the lag between Big Tech's massive capital spending and any visible payoff in revenue. Microsoft and Meta, in particular, are in a six- to 12-month window where data center and compute buildouts are scaling up, but the monetization wave investors are waiting for has not yet arrived.
Ives put it directly in the note. "We are in an 'air pocket stage' right now where the $700 billion of Big Tech cap-ex this year is fueling the AI buildout… and tech investors are growing increasingly frustrated by the patience needed around Microsoft and Meta in particular seeing the fruits of their labor," Benzinga reported.

Your small-cap ETF had a great year, but a surprisingly small number of its holdings did the heavy lifting.
The iShares Russell 2000 ETF (IWM) delivered a +42.1% return over the past year, but that gain wasn't earned evenly. In fact, the five biggest contributors produced about 55% of the combined gains from the holdings measured, showing how a few key stocks can power a fund that looks broadly diversified on paper.
When you own an index fund, you own the math. And the math of the past year shows that your return was disproportionately influenced by a handful of standout performers.
The Engine Room: A Holding Did The Work Of Many
The single biggest contributor to the fund's return was Bloom Energy (BE). While it makes up just 1.8% of the fund, the stock returned stunningly over 1,000% the past year. A performance like that from even a small holding can have an outsized impact on the entire fund's result. The next largest lift came from TTM Technologies (TTMI), which returned +437% from a smaller 0.6% position in the fund.

If you asked your brokerage for a piece of the ***** eX initial public offering (IPO) on June 2, you probably got one, just not the size you were hoping for.
That alone makes this deal strange. On a typical hot IPO, an estimated 95% of the shares go to large institutions such as banks (1), leaving everyday investors to buy in only after trading opens, often at a higher price, according to estimates from Jay Ritter, a University of Florida finance professor who tracks new listings (2).
