Michael Douglas has finally revealed why he refused to appear on David Letterman's talk show for almost two decades.
In his new memoir One ****** uva Ride, the Wall Street actor recounted how he had promoted various projects on the Late Show with David Letterman.
"I had been a regular guest on Letterman's show earlier in my career, but the last time I was on, I felt David went too far," he shared.
Douglas went on to recall how Letterman had played "without warning" a TV commercial that his actress mother, Diana Dill, had appeared in.
"(Letterman) started grilling me about it. It felt like he was making fun of my mother," the 82-year-old continued. "(That appearance) left me feeling like he had a real nasty sense of humour... After that, whenever the producers of the show requested to have me back on, I always refused. I said no for 18 straight years. Dave wrote me personal letters to apologise, but my feelings didn't change. He had crossed a line."
However, Douglas decided to "bury the hatchet" and announce that he was battling advanced tongue cancer during an interview on the Late Show with David Letterman while promoting his movie Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps in 2010. He has since recovered from the cancer after undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

Lawyer Tai Sharki told The Post about his plans to spring former model Adva Lavie from LA County Jail, where she has been locked up since Beverly Hills police spotted her without her ankle monitor in July.
Sharki, who once served a lengthy prison sentence himself, said he was retained by Lavie "just a couple days ago" and described her jail stay as "traumatic."

President Donald Trump's portfolio managers bought as much as $30 million in Meta stock and ******* eX debt in August as purchases made in his name continue to be highly active.
A newly released financial disclosure shows more than 500 securities transactions in August, including up to $25 million in Meta stock and $5 million in ******* eX debt. His portfolio also invested in AT&T, Netflix and Chevron. In contrast, he sold shares of Advanced Micro Devices, T-Mobile, Dell Technologies and Nvidia.
Democrats have criticized moves made by the president's portfolio managers in the past. Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Rep. Robert Garcia sent a lengthy letter to Trump in August, saying they want to know who are the money managers in charge of his investments.
"One ******* ysis estimates that you reported more than 14,000 stock trades, worth up to $1.06 billion during your first year in office. The total is likely higher as these reports don't even include transactions worth less than one thousand dollars," reads a passage of the letter.
"The sheer volume of this trading activity and the timing of a number of transactions, raise questions about whether you are using your knowledge of government activities, your official authority, or the vast megaphone provided by the Presidency to make investments or move markets to your personal benefit—and about whether you have been making decisions that boost your portfolio at the expense of taxpayers, the economy, and national security," it adds.

Despite the S&P 500's (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) 13.3% gain thus far in 2026, there's still plenty bubbling beneath the surface that could trigger a sharp and sudden market crash. Stubborn inflation, the U.S. national debt sitting above $40 trillion, and fears of an artificial intelligence bubble are just a few concerns.
As one of the most successful investors of all time, Warren Buffett has some sage advice. It's found in the 1996 Berkshire Hathaway shareholder letter, which offered one of the top strategies for handling a market crash. The good news is that it can be followed before a crash even starts.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
It's easy to feel panicked when the market starts tumbling, and making any kind of move, even if it's a knee-jerk reaction, can initially feel better than making no move at all. While that small voice whispering to "sell" may never go away during the initial waves of a market crash, it can be countered by being prepared in advance.
Buffett shared exactly how to counter it. In Berkshire's 1996 shareholder letter, he said, "If you aren't willing to own a stock for ten years, don't even think about owning it for ten minutes."

Dua Lipa was in the Bronx on Wednesday night to watch the New York Yankees get eliminated from the MLB Playoffs by the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays beat the Yankees, 4-3, to complete the sweep and advance to the American League Championship Series.
Lipa was joined at the game by her husband, actor Callum Turner. They might have blended in behind home plate if not for the person sitting on the other side of Lipa. As many viewers noted, Lipa sat between her husband and Marlins Man.
Laurence Leavy, who fans have known simply as "Marlins Man" for more than a decade now, is a regular during the MLB postseason. If there's a big game on, there's a pretty good chance you'll see him wearing his trademark orange Marlins jersey and matching visor in the background. He is a super fan who knows ball. What he doesn't know is "music nor movies," as he said on X while recapping the night. He didn't have any clue who they were.

Amcor plc (NYSE:AMCR) isn't a flashy business. Most people probably don't know much about the company, even though they come across its products every day. The company makes the packaging used for food, drinks, healthcare products, beauty products, and plenty of other everyday items.
That gives the company an interesting quality from an investment perspective. Consumers may cut back on certain purchases when the economy gets tougher, but they still need to buy food, medicine, and other basic products. About 60% of Amcor's markets are tied to nutrition, while health, beauty, and wellness make up another 25%. Billionaires are gravitating towards another packaging company, and that has also returned nearly 20% in the past year. Find here.
The company's size is another advantage. Amcor operates across a large global manufacturing network and has relationships with major customers that have been built over many years. It also offers a wide range of packaging formats and materials. For a large multinational customer, being able to deal with one supplier across multiple markets can be a meaningful advantage. The Berry Global acquisition has made Amcor even larger, although it also brought more debt onto the balance sheet.
Amcor plc (NYSE:AMCR) pays $0.65 per share every quarter, giving investors an annual dividend of $2.60. At the October 7 closing price of $41.26, that works out to a yield of about 6.3%. That's a big yield for a company selling products that are tied to everyday consumption. However, a high yield doesn't automatically make a dividend attractive. What matters is whether the business can actually afford to keep paying it. Amcor's latest numbers offer some comfort. Its steady dividend growth is one reason the stock remains popular with income-focused investors.
The company generated $1.303 billion in free cash flow during fiscal 2026, while adjusted diluted EPS came in at $4.02, up 13% from the previous year. Amcor also increased its annual dividend to $2.60. On an adjusted earnings basis, the payout ratio is around 65%. That's not unusual for a mature company and doesn't immediately raise a red flag.

The U.S. Senate candidates in Texas could hardly be more different: James Talarico, a former seminarian turned Democratic state lawmaker who speaks in calm cadences about love and empathy, and Ken Paxton, the pugnacious Republican state attorney general who speaks about a refusal to compromise.
They share an enemy, though. They dislike social media's effects on children's mental health. Talarico, who did not respond to a request for comment, has endorsed a social media ban for kids under 16, while denouncing "predatory algorithms that divide us on an hourly, daily basis." As a legislator, he co-authored a bill targeting explicit deepfakes — digital imitations of individuals that are often made or manipulated by artificial intelligence and used for harassment on social media.
Paxton has been suing Big Tech, alleging the companies hook youth on their apps or don't restrict sensitive videos from being viewed by kids. "When elected to the U.S. Senate, he will continue his proven record of advancing policies that protect children online, strengthen parental rights, and hold Big Tech accountable when it breaks the law," Paxton campaign spokesperson Madison Cercy said in a statement to KFF Health News.
Youth mental health is in decline. Even as researchers explore what's causing the problem, momentum is gathering among policymakers from both parties to crack down on social media companies. Several major companies are being sued, investigated, and, soon, potentially regulated. That they may be harming kids' mental health is a key reason.

Social Security acts as a financial safety net for many retirees, but it's not enough for most. These government checks were never designed to cover all living expenses. Social Security is a supplemental income source that can keep up with expenses if you combine it with savings.
That's why many people are encouraged to save up before retirement, and the math proves it. Your life in retirement will be very different if you just live on Social Security compared to having $500,000 in savings alongside your government checks. Let's break it all down below.
The average monthly Social Security benefit for retired workers as of mid-2026 was $2,085.98, according to the Social Security Administration (SSA). At that rate, you will not pay any taxes on Social Security, ******* uming you do not have any other income sources. You won't even have to worry about state income taxes.
However, that's where the advantages end if you rely exclusively on Social Security. Per Apartment List data, the national median rent was $1,390 in August. That median rent leaves you with less than $700 for groceries, transportation, healthcare, utilities, insurance, debt and miscellaneous purchases.
For most people, the average Social Security is not enough. High-earners can max out their benefits at $5,181 per month if they earned a high salary for most or all of their 35 highest-earning years and wait until 70 to tap into Social Security, per the SSA. That monthly amount offers more room for financial flexibility, but the average is insufficient for most people unless their spouse earns a similar check or they live very frugally.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Federal Communications Commission is considering a request by a conservative group to loosen rules on political robocalls, including those with artificial intelligence-generated voices, before November's midterm elections.
Federal law currently bans most robocalls to cellphones unless the caller gets consent beforehand. The petition calls for a waiver that would allow political groups to use artificial or prerecorded voices in unsolicited wireless calls.
The Republican-led FCC advanced the request for public comment and could rule on it as soon as late October.
Consumer advocacy groups warn the proposed change could trigger a surge of unwanted, partisan and potentially misleading automated calls in the critical final days of the election, which will determine which party controls Congress for the final two years of President Donald Trump's term.
The potential perils became evident two years ago during the presidential primary season when thousands of voters in New Hampshire received a robocall with an AI-generated voice of then-President Joe Biden. The call suggested voters should forgo casting a ballot in the primary and "save" their votes for the general election.

JPMorgan just raised its dividend 10% while still paying out only 28% of earnings, and Visa's even lower 23% payout fuels years of double-digit raises.
Cisco's AI infrastructure orders hit $9.3 billion, lifting earnings faster than its dividend, while T. Rowe Price yields 5% at just 10 times earnings.

The best dividend raises come from companies that pay out a small piece of what they earn. JPMorgan Chase (NYSE:JPM) just showed how that works: it lifted its quarterly dividend from $1.50 to $1.65, a 10% increase, and the new annual rate still matches only 28.3% of trailing earnings. The five companies below all fit that pattern. Each has strong earnings and a payout ratio low enough to fund many more raises. A long streak of past increases supports the case for some of them, but the reason they're here is how much room each has to keep advancing.
Visa (NYSE:V) yields only about 0.72% on its $2.68 annualized dividend at a share price of $370.97. That's a small yield, but the dividend has a lot of room to grow. The payout uses about 22.8% of trailing diluted EPS of $11.75, and Visa's trailing operating margin is 66.1%.

Kylie Brewer has posted a video on TikTok saying that the people mocking "handouts" want the money without any effort, and the system that would supposedly reward them has been created for some particular white groups.
"This is not something, like, to shame them for their income or anything like that, but that's why they get so p***** off about 'handouts,' because they think that they should be getting everything," Brewer said.
According to Brewer, the racists know that the country favors white people.
"They see the way that America is advantaged towards white people," she explained. "They literally understand that, even though they will deny it to your face. And they want some; they want the money."
The opinions these people form about the country depend on how well they perform compared to Black and brown people.

An XRP holder proposed raising XRP Ledger fees 100x, but even that hike would cost only $0.0015 per transaction, which amounts to a negligible dent across 63 billion circulating tokens.
David Schwartz called higher fees 'truly bizarre,' warning they would drive away payment processors and undermine XRP Ledger's core advantage of cheap, fast settlement.
Higher fees would force active users to subsidize passive holders, and any fee change requires validator approval, which is a threshold this proposal hasn't reached.

Recently, an XRP (CRYPTO:XRP) holder made a bold proposal on X, suggesting that XRP Ledger fees be raised 10 to 100 times to enable a larger XRP burn with each transaction. In late September 2026, Huntington Ingalls Industries' Newport News Shipbuilding division secured a US$5.10 billion contract to conduct the refueling and complex overhaul of USS Harry S. Together with the Navy order for 10 ROMULUS unmanned surface vessels and the Pocasset unmanned systems campus expansion, these developments highlight how HII is tying long-duration carrier work to growing autonomous maritime capabilities within its Mission Technologies division.
We'll now examine how the Truman overhaul award, alongside new ROMULUS unmanned vessel production, could influence Huntington Ingalls Industries' investment narrative.

I think anyone with an Amazon Prime Video subscription probably understands that Alan Ritchson is jacked, whether or not they watched Reacher Season 4. The man is splashed all over the home screen on the streamer between his various movies and his very popular TV show. He's a big, fit guy, and as a gym girlie myself, I know this takes dedication and diligence. I just didn't realize the "high high volume" of reps he was putting in.
Ritchson recently sat down with Thomas DeLauer Podcast, and explain his strategy for staying swole. Some of this involves eating right and throwing in a lot of HIIT cardio with sprints and the Stairmaster, the latter of which does not always go over so well. Some of this is because he literally likes to do four sets at 25 reps of a given exercise.
Gym newbies are often taught to do three sets of eight for each exercise, and maybe push to nine or 10 before going up a plate or free weight. People who are more intermediate or advanced often throw in extra sets or increase reps at a lower weight to keep things interesting, so it's not like a giant surprise Alan Ritchson might do longer rep sets. BUT 100 reps for one exercise is a lot.

Sarah "Fergie" Ferguson is keeping a close eye on the latest royal drama, with a source claiming she's looking to use the turmoil to her own advantage.
"Sarah is holding off on a book deal for now, figuring that by showing loyalty, or at least keeping her mouth shut, it's only fair that they cut her a break and help her with a path back towards respectability or, at the very least, a place to live," the source tells Examiner. "They don't need any more enemies."
As Examiner previously reported, King Charles III and Queen Camilla have both been enraged by the Tuesday, September 22 release of Swan Song: Diana, My Sister. In the tell-all, Princess Diana's brother, Charles Spencer, alleges the monarch "sounded giddily elated" after Di's 1997 death. The 62-year-old also claims Buckingham Palace denied the late Princess of Wales' funeral wishes.
Through an official statement released to Page Six, the king, 77, in an unprecedented move, suggested his former brother-in-law's account was clouded by "grief."
Days after the bombshell book hit shelves, Fergie, 66, shot down rumors she was writing her own memoir to People.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could use a recent security scare near their children's school to support their case for taxpayer-funded protection in the UK, royal author Ingrid Seward claimed. The Sussexes returned to Britain in August and are still waiting for a decision on whether they will receive publicly funded security while they are in the country.
Seward suggested Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may point to the incident when making their case for greater security. Speaking to The Sun's Royal Exclusive, Seward said she believed the couple could use the situation to their advantage. "I do feel certain that they (the Sussexes) probably will use this to try and benefit themselves in some kind of way," she said.
Harry has repeatedly raised concerns about his family's security while in the UK. Seward suggested that his security team would likely have stayed near the school because Harry uses a high level of protection when travelling with his family.
Harry and Meghan are currently waiting to learn whether they will receive taxpayer-funded security while living in the UK. Their security arrangements have remained a major issue since Harry stepped back as a working member of the Royal Family and moved to the US. The Duke has previously challenged decisions surrounding his security protection in Britain.
GB News royal correspondent Cameron Walker also discussed the incident and the security concerns involving Archie and Lilibet. Walker said British publications would generally avoid publishing unauthorized photos of the children. However, he noted that some European outlets could take a different approach.

Prince William has a strong one-word nickname for Prince Harry and Charles Spencer. As per reports, the Prince of Wales was blindsided by the claims and allegations his uncle levied against King Charles and the royal family in his recent Princess Diana memoir. Spencer reportedly insists that he had informed William and Harry at the same time. However, multiple sources have alleged that the future king was furious upon learning the contents of the book.
Prince William is reportedly angry after learning that Prince Harry had prior knowledge of Charles Spencer's book. According to a source attached to Heat World, William has branded Harry and Spencer as "traitors". The source elaborated: "William is seeing this alliance that Harry has formed with their uncle and it's got him incensed and calling both Harry and Earl Spencer traitors."
The source explained that the Duke of Sussex has sided with his uncle amid his ongoing rift with the royal family. However, Harry has not publicly expressed support for Spencer or commented on the memoir. His silence has reportedly fueled William's frustration, according to the source.
The Prince of Wales reportedly suspects Harry had read the book and knew what Spencer planned to reveal. While Charles reportedly wants to move past the issue, William is said to be willing to confront his brother. According to Rob Shuter's report, both King Charles and William were surprised by the memoir's contents. Neither reportedly received an advance copy. However, a source claimed that Harry received a copy weeks before its official release.
William and King Charles reportedly learned about the memoir's more controversial claims as excerpts emerged publicly. Rob Shuter's source alleged that Spencer gave Harry preferential treatment over William. The source said: "Harry had the book weeks ago. Charles Spencer wanted Harry to understand exactly what he was going to say about Diana before the world read it. Harry was brought inside the circle. William was kept outside it."

One of the secrets of Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRKA) (NYSE: BRKB) and its success in the stock market has been its focus on value. Whether led by former Chief Executive Officer Warren Buffett or its current leader, Greg Abel, Berkshire has always focused on buying stocks when they are significantly below their intrinsic value.
On top of that, Berkshire's management team has sought companies that have significant advantages over their competitors -- an economic moat -- operating in a mature industry with reliable cash flow.

Tyrese Gibson's ongoing custody battle with his ex-wife has taken another turn, with the actor now seeking an arrest warrant against Samantha Lee Gibson over allegations that she violated their parenting agreement by moving their daughter across the country.
According to court documents that TMZ obtained, the Fast & Furious star alleges that Samantha's decision to relocate their daughter, Soraya, from Georgia to Oregon in September 2025 was "premeditated." He also accuses her of failing to facilitate visitation, despite a parenting agreement the former couple had reached just one month before the move.
Samantha isn't backing down. She has opposed the warrant, maintaining that she has primary custody of Soraya and accusing Tyrese of misrepresenting the circumstances surrounding their daughter's relocation. According to her response, Tyrese knew about the move well in advance, and she never attempted to conceal her plans.

Internet personality and streamer Meep (meepiosaurus) revealed that she was married at 19. It wasn't a fairy tale, and she told TikTok about the red flags leading up to her wedding.
"At this moment, I was separating myself from my family," Meep prefaced her story. Now divorced, she claimed her husband "wasn't the best" in terms of character. Furthermore, she alleged that he had been physically abusive but didn't go into detail about it.
"The beginning of that pattern starts with them taking you away from your family and your friends, kind of ostracizing you from your support system," she alleged. A former prosecutor has also described dangerous men and the characteristics they have in common. Meep now recognizes the pattern, but couldn't when she was 19.
"So, I remember my dad and I were besties at the time, and I started really detaching myself from him. Stopped going to therapy," Meep said. At the time, she was supposed to be tested for bipolar disorder, but didn't push through. She told her dad she was getting married the next day while they were in a parking lot.
"I remember it was one of those conversations that was heavy, okay? And I could tell there was something more happening in that conversation, and it was something I wasn't picking up on," Meep recalled. She said she knew she was making a mistake, and her father also advised her. He allegedly told her not to sign any contract that indicated she was married to her then-boyfriend. Meep believes her dad saw through her boyfriend and thought he was taking advantage of her.

An expert believes that Prince William may not be pleased with Charles Spencer's new book about Princess Diana. The memoir, "Swan Song: Diana, My Sister," reportedly contains explosive claims about King Charles and the royal family. The Earl also offers a remorseful reflection on William, then 15, and Harry, then 12, walking behind their mother's coffin, recalling how strongly he opposed the arrangement at the time.
Royal experts have weighed in on how Prince William might be feeling about the new Princess Diana book. They claim that the royal heir has faced a significant repercussion following the release of Earl Spencer's bombshell memoir.
While it honored the late royal, the book also made serious allegations that could have consequences for the monarchy. Among them is a striking claim against King Charles. It is alleged that he sounded "giddily elated" and reacted like a "lottery winner" upon learning of his ex-wife's death.
As per the Daily Express, despite Charles Spencer's accusations, Prince William has remained silent on the matter. Reports indicate that his uncle gave him advance notice weeks before, with the wider public learning about it on the same day.
Discussing the situation surrounding the royal heir, Matt Wilkinson, The Sun's royal editor, stated on the Royal Exclusive show: "I just think it's unfair that he (William) gets dragged into it. I think it's unfair that his work and his engagements are being brought into this book by his uncle, and he wasn't told what was in it."

More than two years after Selma Blair posted a comment widely criticized as Islamophobic, for which she later apologized, the actress has revealed the alleged repercussions she experienced in her career and personal life.
The 54-year-old said in a speech on Oct. 1 that she felt "erased" after losing partnerships, legal and career representation and a "best friend" over the February 2024 comment.
The speech took place at the Anti-Defamation League's event at the Jewish Museum in New York City, which celebrated the launch of the organization's State of the Arts: Advancing Jewish Inclusion in Arts, Entertainment and Culture platform.
In the since-deleted message, the "Cruel Intentions" star had issued a call to "deport all these terrorist supporting goons" under a video describing former U.S. Rep. Cori Bush and Rep. Rashida Tlaib as "Jew hating antisemites" for voting against legislation that would have imposed sanctions against people, agencies and governments that "assist Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad or their affiliates."
"The brands I worked with were gone within a day. A few partnerships I'd spent years building were shelved. My agency was gone. My lawyer was gone. My publicist was gone. My book agent was gone. My book publicist was gone. My social media manager was gone. My son's godmother was gone – my best friend," Blair said from the podium.

Latino voters helped propel Donald Trump back to the White House. Now, they are turning on him, according to a new NBC News/Telemundo poll — a shift that gives Democrats a major opportunity to capitalize in a 2026 election that could hinge on states and districts with sizable Latino populations.
Like the broader electorate, Latino voters are racked by major concerns about high prices and Trump’s approach to immigration enforcement. The president’s approval rating sits at 27% among Latino voters. Two-thirds say his administration’s deportation policies have gone too far and three-quarters disapprove of how he has handled the economy and the cost of living.
There are clear signs his party is paying the price.
A greater share of Latino voters hold negative views of the Republican Party than at any time since 2016, and Democrats have leads on issues like dealing with the economy, immigration, the cost of living, corruption and healthcare. Two years ago, Latino voters gave Trump a 4-point edge over then-Vice President Kamala Harris on handling the economy. Today, they give Democrats a 21-point advantage on the same question.
Against that backdrop, Democrats have a 24-point lead on whom Latino voters want to see in control of Congress, 59%-35%.
