Although North DeSoto graduated a quarterback to Northwestern (Luke Delafield) and a running back to Louisiana Tech (Kenny Thomas), not many are crying for the 2026 Griffins, who remain loaded with plenty of talent on both sides of the ball.
That's why coach Dennis Dunn's squad has been chosen to win the 2026 District 1-4A ******* le in a close race with Northwood, which has seven senior offensive linemen. Five of those linemen have more than 100 starts between them. Replacing Delafield will be freshman Mason Smith, who already holds offers from LSU and Tulane, and he'll have a big target in tight end Miller Warren, a Northwestern State commitment.

BEREA ― The Browns will finally get another chance to get off their feet and rest on Aug. 9. Before they can do that, they have one more practice to get through, and it's going to be a doozy.
The sixth of six consecutive practices this week takes place on Day 10 of training camp Aug. 8. It's not just the end of a long week, it's expected to be the longest practice of camp at nearly two-and-a-half hours.
Not only that, but the Browns will be back in full pads for the fourth time this week. They had practiced in helmets only the day before, a practice moved inside the field house due to some rain that fell earlier in the day.

Like the flock of seagulls from Pixar's "Finding Nemo," that chant started with one voice, and grew to many on the defensive sideline during Day 2 of the Washington State football team's fall camp Friday at Rogers Field.
During one of the 11-on-11 team periods, redshirt freshman quarterback Owen Eshelman stood in the pocket for perhaps a bit too long. As WSU defenders burst into the backfield, Eshelman fired a pass to junior wide receiver Branden Ganashamoorthy.
Following the completion, defensive linemen Kaden Beatty and Jirah Leaupepetele shared a differing opinion of the outcome of the play, advocating for and celebrating a would-be simulated sack by chanting "saaaack."
Soon other defenders followed, breaking out into a chorus of "saaaack, saaaack, saaaack."

Players are earning their playing time by winning "all the little stuff."
That's what Colorado State offensive coordinator Pryce Tracy highlighted early in preseason camp. The little stuff includes how skill players play their role without the ball, how they finish the play when they do have the ball, how offensive linemen get involved in the play after the first phase of blocking.
Those are the differentiators Tracy looks for in determining who will be relied upon on the field.

There are dozens and dozens of not only great players, but phenomenal players in the history of the NFL. Bryan DeArdo of CBS Sports recently published his list of the top 100 players in NFL history. Cincinnati Bengals great Anthony Munoz landed at No. 19, being proclaimed as the best left tackle in NFL history.
To understand how big of a feat that is, let's take a look at some of the previous Bengals before and after Munoz, as well as other players Munoz landed in front of on the list.
On the Bengals side, you're looking at players like Ken Anderson, Ken Riley, Boomer Esiason, Chad Johnson, A.J. Green, Corey Dillon, James Brooks and Tim Krumrie, with a dozen more to list.
Now, league-wide, Munoz landed in front of Marcus Allen, Steve Van Buren, Troy Aikman, Bart Starr, Forrest Gregg and Mike Ditka, to name a few.
Munoz, a Hall of Famer and Bengals Ring of Honor member, is considered one of the best linemen in NFL history. He was the third overall pick by the Bengals in the 1980 NFL Draft, though it was considered a risky move at the time with his injury history.

The San Francisco 49ers personnel department has been busy as they deal with having 20 players currently injured. According to Wednesday's transaction wire, the team worked out several players before they signed wide receiver KhaDarel Hodge.

The spring brought plenty of exciting developments to the football field for the Oregon Ducks. Evan Stewart made his return. Dante Moore launched his Heisman campaign. Koi Perich and other transfers took the field at Autzen Stadium.
The hype train that really took off, however, was along the defensive line. No, not because of the returning veterans, but rather some of the depth that has been developing in the shadows for the past few seasons.
Aydin Breland and Matt Johnson took over the spring game, combining for five sacks and wreaking havoc in the backfield all day long. While spring game statistics should be taken with a grain of salt, it showed that the pieces are starting to fall into place for the young defensive linemen.
Breland has only added to his "tool bag" this offseason, finding new ways to be effective as a pass rusher, while anchoring down against the run. Playing behind first NFL draft picks A'Mauri Washington and Bear Alexander provides a clear example for Breland to follow, but the spring served as a solid reminder for what the former four-star recruit is capable of.
"I should be as confident in myself as I should be," Breland said at Oregon's media day. "I feel like my ability is definitely there. (The spring was) a big confidence booster."

Few aspects of the Denver Broncos training camp top the risers and fallers.
Everyone knows the players who have their spots on the roster scribbled in ink. But it's the players who are fighting for a spot or clawing their way up the depth chart that creates the best storylines. That's especially true for rookies.
After Broncos practice on Wednesday, Sean Payton was asked if there has been a pleasant surprise at this point.
"Fair question. I think the young runner, you don't feel a rookie with (running back) Jonah (Coleman). He's playing. It's been harder with some of the linemen because we haven't been in pads in fairness to them. Then a couple of these young linebackers, we're getting to see them move around, make the calls. There's a lot to that position, a lot of it is key and diagnose. That's been good."
The fact that Payton singled out Coleman is no doubt a positive sign (thanks, John Madden). When Denver selected the running back out of Washington in the fourth round, the pick was widely celebrated. Adding his running style and abilities to this offense gives the running back room another element and a different running style.

While millions of TV viewers saw the impact of Luke Kuechly's skills with the Carolina Panthers over the years, few knew how hard he hit better than those who worked and played with him every day.
Mick Mixon, former Panthers play-by-play announcer: "So a lifetime ago I played in a cover band called the Franklin Street Band. We were hired to play Casey Beamer's rehearsal dinner party in Georgia. Frank Beamer, head coach of Virginia Tech is Casey Beamer's dad. The Panthers had just drafted Luke Kuechly about three weeks prior. So here's my moment. I say, Coach Beamer, your Hokies played Boston College. What can you tell me about our first round draft pick? He set his beverage down and he looked it right into my soul. And he said, Mick, let me tell you something. In 40 years of coaching, I've gone across the field exactly one time to congratulate another player who single-handedly kicked our [butt]. And that was Luke Kuechly."
Al Holcomb, former Panthers defensive coach: "From a linebacking standpoint, one of the biggest things about Luke was he had a great first step. His first step was so quick that it was hard for offensive linemen to get up and try to block him. He was out in front of them beating them to the point of attack."
Steve Wilks, former Panthers defensive coordinator: "As a coaching staff, we would go downstairs and probably have dinner around seven 7:30. We've gotten off the field maybe about 2 o'clock. The Florida Gators made finalizations to their roster for the upcoming season ahead of Wednesday's fall camp, adding seven players since the end of spring camp in April.
The Gators brought in five freshmen who can help on both sides of the ball: wide receiver Mason Jordan, defensive linemen Stive-Bentley Keumajou-Yondui and Jayden Gross, safety Eric Parks Jr. and long snapper Lincoln Anderson. The program also brought in two transfers, who are both fairly unconventional: tight end Jaylen Jordon and cornerback Javier Jones, who round out the summer acquisitions for Florida.
The Coral Gables, Florida, product was a surprise addition to the 2026 roster. The defensive tackle was originally in the 2027 recruiting class for Florida but reclassified ahead of July 31.
Keumajou-Yondui is a unique prospect — he moved to the United States from England in 2025 and decided to sign with Florida over Auburn, Georgia, Miami, Texas, and Texas A&M, among others. The 6-foot-3-inch, 295-pound prospect was rated a three-star recruit by 247Sports.
The Gators continued the in-state recruiting by bringing in Parks and Jordan. Parks played at Tampa Bay Tech, along with current Gators wideout Dallas Wilson. Parks is a 6-foot, 193-pound three-star who recorded 115 tackles with 15 for loss, two interceptions, and six defended passes over 37 varsity games.

The 2026 Sports Info Solutions Preseason All-Big 12 Team was released on Wednesday. Several BYU Cougars are getting the preseason hype they deserve.
Four Cougars earned Preseason First Team All-Big 12 designations ahead of the season. Reigning Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year in LJ Martin leads the way. He is fresh off of leading the Big 12 in rushing yards, with over 1,300. He spearheads BYU's offensive attack once again in 2026. Martin was named to the postseason First Team for the Big 12 last year. There is a decent chance Martin replicates or even improves upon his stellar 2025 campaign with a full season of health.
Also on the offensive side, Bruce Mitchell was also First Team All-Big 12 last year, blocking for Martin. He too, earned the preseason First Team distinction. The veteran center leads a BYU offensive linemen going through a few changes this year, with the Cougars needing to replace their left tackle and left guard from a year ago. Mitchell will stabilize things in the middle.
Defense is where BYU shone brightest last season. Even with the departure of defensive coordinator Jay Hill, the Cougars look to be strong on defense once again. Cornerback Evan Johnson was one of two BYU defenders named to the Preseason First Team. This comes after grading out as the fifth-best cornerback in the Big 12 last season. He tied for the conference lead in internceptions.
Safety Faletau Satuala also earned First Team preseason honors. Many view him as a possible NFL prospect after this season. Per Pro Football Focus, he was the fourth-highest graded safety in the Big 12 last year. It seemed like when BYU needed a big play, Satuala was right in the thick of things. He was named Third Team All-Big 12 last year, which seemed low for how well he played. Now, he looks like he is getting the respect he deserves.

Indiana Hoosiers defensive end Stephen Daley thought his college career ended in December when he suffered a season-ending knee injury during the Big Ten championship postgame celebration.
Now, he's back.
Four days after a U.S. District Court judge in Colorado ruled high school players from the 2022 graduating class could play their fifth college season, Daley returned to the practice field for the defending national champions. He'll be limited in early workouts, but coach Curt Cignetti remains hopeful it won't take one of the nation's most disruptive defensive linemen in 2025 long to get back to full speed.
"He looks pretty good. He's on a modified program where he'll dress out for practice, participate in some individual right now, no 11-on-11, and then get with the strength and conditioning staff, who will bring him along until they feel confident he's ready to go," Cignetti said Wednesday after the team's first summer practice. "I don't think it's going to be real, real long because he was training to be ready for next year in the (National Football) League, so it looks like he's in pretty good shape."
Daley's return solidifies what was already expected to be a deep, experienced, talented group of defensive linemen.

The Baltimore Ravens have traditionally directed their largest investments toward quarterbacks, offensive linemen and defensive stars. Zay Flowers' extension reflects an evolving approach.
Baltimore agreed to a four-year, $140 million extension with Flowers that includes $108 million guaranteed. The contract makes him the highest-paid receiver in franchise history and places his $35 million annual average in a tie for fourth among NFL wide receivers.
That is a substantial commitment for an organization that spent years attempting to supplement its passing game through veteran acquisitions and draft picks. Flowers has given Baltimore a reason to change its strategy.
The former Boston College standout has produced 237 receptions for 3,128 yards and 14 touchdowns through three seasons. He has earned two Pro Bowl selections, recorded consecutive 1,000-yard campaigns and set the franchise's single-season wide receiver record with 1,211 yards in 2025.
His extension indicates that Baltimore wants its passing offense to be more than a complement to Lamar Jackson's mobility and Derrick Henry's power. Flowers gives offensive coordinator Declan Doyle a movable playmaker capable of threatening defenses horizontally and vertically.

Big Ten Media Days wrapped up last week and with the annual trek to Chicago came the media projections for each and every team in the conference.
We noted in our rundown last week that Iowa had three pre-season All-Big Ten nominees in offensive linemen Kade Pieper and Trevor Lauck, as well as defensive back Zach Lutmer, who also garnered votes for defensive player of the year in the conference. They were joined by TE DJ Vonnahme, who earned Honorable Mention All-Big Ten.
As for the team overall, they were picked to finish 8th in the conference according to the media.
But the media doesn't always know what they're talking about (unless, of course, they're fan media on ablog, then they are always right about everything) and when it comes to perception of the Iowa Hawkeyes, that can be especially true. In the modern NFL, high-powered offenses often steal highlight reels, but games are still won in the trenches. Speaking to reporters before training camp practice following the team's first padded session, Pittsburgh Steelers new head coach Mike McCarthy laid out his philosophy on building a dominant offensive line. He stressed that health, continuity, and roster depth are the true backbones of a championship season.
Before Wednesday's practice in Latrobe, in a video shared on X by reporter Chris Adamski, McCarthy highlighted a timeless league truth: cohesive offensive line play directly correlates with winning games.
"A lot of value there, a lot of talent," said McCarthy when asked about the pedigree of his offensive line. "I've always adhered to the statistics of how many consecutive starts that you have with your offensive line, it equates to winning and has for decades in our league. So, trying to establish the starting five is something you're always going through in training camp.
"Most importantly is the depth. I know recently we've played a lot of offensive linemen, that's why you hear me talk about position flexibility so much. It's critical, particularly in a 17-game season. I really like the group, but I think yesterday being the first day in pads is a real starting point of who we are and who we want to be."
Building a starting unit is only half the battle in a grueling schedule. As McCarthy noted, injuries are an inevitable reality of professional football. Success hinges on having reserves who can step in without disrupting the offensive flow.

Florida State football's defensive line remains one of the biggest questions on the team ahead of the 2026 season.
By standard metrics, the Seminoles are undersized along the defensive line. The coaching staff has pointed to the "explosiveness" and athleticism of smaller and more nimble linemen, but the likes of Daniel Lyons, Kevin Wynn and Jordan Sanders will hold key roles as nose tackles.
Sanders, who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 310 pounds, is a wild card for the Seminoles after missing the majority of spring camp with an injury. The Texas State transfer had a productive campaign last season, recording 16 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss and one forced fumble before transferring to FSU late in the cycle.
Defensive line coach Terrance Knighton said Sanders was a sponge in the spring and didn't let his injury stop him from progressing.
"In the meeting rooms, he was asking questions, staying engaged. Putting himself, taking vicarious reps, putting himself in the position of the nose," Knighton said. "On the sideline, he was standing right by me asking questions. Standing by coach Odell [Haggins] asking questions. He stayed locked in."

Defensive tackles are more in demand now than they have ever been. The numbers show that quick interior pressure is the best way to disrupt modern quarterbacks, giving interior rushers a huge profile boost.
As important as they are in today's game, there are so many great interior defensive linemen that it's not uncommon for even great defenders at the position to fly under the radar.
That's certainly the case for Carolina Panthers stud Derrick Brown, who's been performing at an elite level since entering the league back in 2020. Those who know ball recognize Brown's ability, though.
Brown is the highest-rated player at his position in Madden NFL 27, and recently earned a top-five ranking at his position from Bucky Brooks at NFL.com. Brooks puts the Pro Bowler at No. 5:
The seventh-year pro's instincts, awareness and violence allow him to be a disruptive presence in the backfield as a rugged player who embodies the ultra-physical approach demanded by Panthers general manager (and former Pro Bowl linebacker) Dan Morgan. As the standard bearer for run-stuffing DTs -- with 65-plus tackles in each of his last three healthy seasons -- Brown has the ability to clog up lanes while enhancing the pass rush as a pocket pusher. He's a cornerstone of Carolina's rising defense under Ejiro Evero.

PHILADELPHIA − We have already seen defensive linemen Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis and Jonathan Greenard all get new contract this offseason that are at least $25 million in average annual value.
The three were paid handsomely, none more so than Carter, who became the highest-paid defensive tackle in the NFL when he signed a four-year extension worth as much as $152 million on July 29, or $38 million in AAV.
But the Eagles have two more budding stars on the defensive line who could join that $25 million per year club. It's just a question of whether it will be with the Eagles or someone else.

After multiple days of sunshine, the New England Patriots were forced to move inside to WIN Waste Innovations Field House and closed practice to the public after downpours plagued the practice field on Monday, Aug. 3.
A notable limited participant was receiver Kyle Williams, who left Saturday's practice with an injury. Williams missed a significant portion of practice on Monday, but did appear for the final four periods.
Before team drills, head coach Mike Vrabel and some of his coaching staff put on pads for an offensive line blocking drill. While the staff was mostly used to simulate where defensive linemen and linebackers would be lined during run formations, Vrabel took one opportunity to show off the skills he learned during his 13-year career.
Running back Jack Westover received the handoff and hit the gap as the drill intended, but out of nowhere, Vrabel came in and "stopped" Westover. Vrabel then pumped his fist and celebrated in front of the offense while the defense cheered him on.
After Vrabel showed off his defensive prowess, the receivers and defensive secondary went against each other in a 1-on-1 drill. It was essentially a draw between the two groups, with each group making a play over the other. The play of the drill was on the first play when receiver A.J. Brown bobbled the ball to himself and made a one-handed grab for a touchdown over cornerback Christian Gonzalez as the two players continue to go against each other this summer.

PHILADELPHIA — Eagles rookie wide receiver Makai Lemon was suited up and participated in individual drills Monday but did not take part in team periods during Philadelphia's first padded practice of training camp. Lemon was not listed on the team's pre-practice injury report, and the Eagles did not immediately provide an explanation for his absence from competitive drills. His status will bear monitoring when Philadelphia returns to the field.
The team announced that outside linebacker Keyshawn James-Newby would not practice because of an ankle injury. Offensive linemen Micah Morris and Jaeden Roberts were sidelined by shoulder and calf injuries, respectively, while safety Cole Wisniewski remained out with a hamstring issue.
Right tackle Lane Johnson missed his second consecutive practice because of an excused, non-injury-related absence. Second-year offensive lineman Cameron Williams was listed as limited while working through a knee contusion.
Lemon's omission from the report distinguishes his situation from those absences. He completed positional work before stepping aside when the offense moved into team periods, suggesting the Eagles were controlling his workload for a reason that had not been disclosed. Philadelphia selected Lemon after a productive career at Southern California. He dealt with a hamstring issue during the spring but participated in summer workouts organized by Jalen Hurts and was active during the opening practices of camp.
Lemon is competing for a role in a deep receiver room led by DeVonta Smith. Missing team repetitions can slow a rookie's development, particularly while learning multiple alignments in Sean Mannion's offense.

The Chargers plan to determine their starting left guard in the third week of August, aiming to finalize the position after roughly 10 to 13 more training camp practices, head coach Jim Harbaugh said.
Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel emphasized that the decision will not be rushed, stating that the "wide-open" competition will truly be decided only after evaluating players during live-action, padded practices.
"There's going to be a really fun competition that's just getting underway," McDaniel said. "But really, you can't claim a lead player in that race this early in the process, particularly because that's a job of blocking people, and we really haven't got to the stage of truly blocking someone, which occurs when you have pads on."
While free-agent addition Kayode Awosika took the majority of first-team reps during early non-padded offseason programs and OTAs, the coaching staff has intentionally slowed the evaluation process and added other players to the mix.
Five linemen have cycled through the first-team offense during the first four days of camp, with those being Awosika, rookie Jake Slaughter, Trevor Penning, Trey Pipkins and Branson Taylor.

Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley, ahead of Sunday's fourth practice of camp, appreciates how the practice setting is getting closer to how the game is truly played.
"I think the game changes when pads come on," Hafley said.

Kayvon Thibodeaux — Thibodeaux has taken more reps with the second team than the first team, but no matter. He is a key part of the defense and is being used both on the edge and at times in the old Justin Tuck role as an interior pass rusher. Thibodeaux has made impact plays every day against starters and backups. He seems happy, and could be primed for a big season in his contract year.
Abdul Carter — The second-year edge defender has been impactful throughout the first four practices. Of course, Andrew Thomas and the other offensive linemen are not in pads, making it more difficult to block. Carter might not win Defensive Player of the Year, but he does seem primed to make a big leap in Year 2.
Braxton Berrios — The veteran wide receiver/return man keeps showing up as a receiver. He has made a number of catches each day. It is early in camp, but Berrios is showing he can be a useful player.

The Arizona Cardinals have lost one of their defensive linemen for the season. They announced on Saturday that defensive tackle PJ Mustipher was placed on injured reserve, which ends his season.
Mustipher suffered a foot injury in training camp, and it was severe enough to not wait it out.
Mustipher had been with the team since 2024. He spent the entire 2024 season on their practice squad, re-signed in 2025 and then made the 53-man roster and played in 15 games last season. In those 15 games, he logged 300 defensive snaps, 32 total tackle, one tackle for loss and a tipped pass.
He was not a lock for the roster, but he certainly was competing for a roster spot. Now the defensive line room picture might be a little clearer.
The Cardinals replaced Mustipher by signing defensive lineman Brodric Martin.

On Monday, July 27, Bucs defensive lineman Vita Vea requested a trade from the franchise that drafted him, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Vea is heading into the final year of a four-year, $71 million extension that he signed in January of 2022. The request comes on the heels of other notable defensive lineman extensions over the last year from the likes of Devonte Wyatt of the Green Bay Packers and Quinnen Williams of the Dallas Cowboys.

According to NFL insiders Mike Garafolo and Jeremy Fowler, Bergeron's new deal is a four-year, $96 million contract that includes $60 million in guaranteed money. Falcons general manager Ian Cunningham already re-signed Drake London and Kyle Pitts, and he was happy to reward another core player with a new contract.

It's safe to say that Seattle Seahawks stars Leonard Williams and Byron Murphy are two of the best players at the defensive tackle position in the NFL.
CBS Sports released their top 10 rankings for every defensive position in the NFL on Thursday, and first ranked Williams No. 4 overall among all interior defensive linemen in the league.
"Williams has been an absolute steal for the Seahawks, who have had no shortage of them as part of their run to Super Bowl champs," CBS Sports' **** ysts said. "Acquired from the Giants for a third-rounder and a fifth-rounder, Williams has played at an All-Pro level the last two seasons."
Williams earned an All-Pro nod last season as a second-team honoree. He recorded seven sacks on the year and was one of the most technically sound and explosive players at the position.
Murphy was ranked No. 6 overall after having a breakout year in 2025.

According to NFL insiders Mike Garafolo and Jeremy Fowler, Bergeron has agreed to a four-year, $96 million contract extension that will keep him in Atlanta through the 2030 season. The contract is worth a reported $60 million in guaranteed money.
This is a big deal for the Falcons as Bergeron gives the team some stability up front. Atlanta just lost center Drew Dalman in 2025 and right tackle Kaleb McGary retired in the offseason.
The Falcons had $38,606,359 in salary cap ******* e available prior to Bergeron's extension, according to Over The Cap. The fourth-year guard was due to make $4,806,451 in the final year of his deal in 2026, so we will have to wait and see how his extension is structured.
Since entering the league in 2023, Bergeron has started 49 games at left guard for the Falcons. The former Syracuse standout played tackle in college before moving to guard under former Falcons head coach Arthur Smith.

Even with 90 spots to work with, NFL rosters can feel the domino effect of summertime injuries.
That's certainly been the case for the Carolina Panthers, whose 2026 training camp has felt like a war of attrition. On top of the starters who were already sidelined going into workouts, including offensive tackles Ikem Ekwonu and Taylor Moton and defensive linemen Tershawn Wharton and Bobby Brown III, the team has now lost rookie wide receiver Chris Brazzell II and second-year outside linebacker Nic Scourton to season-ending knee injuries.
Head coach Dave Canales explained on Friday night, following Fan Fest, that those setbacks have held back the Panthers from adding a fourth quarterback—namely, Kyle Trask.
"Yeah, just general needs for our roster right now," stated Canales, who later mentioned the offensive line and tight end room as areas that are currently experiencing stress. "We just didn't really feel like we had the luxury. With a couple of positions, we have some guys down."
Trask, a second-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2021, was brought into Charlotte for a workout on Wednesday. The 28-year-old crossed paths with Canales back in 2023, when Canales served as Tampa Bay's offensive coordinator.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Aaron Donald's potential return to the Los Angeles Rams will not be decided while they are in training camp, but coach Sean McVay said the defensive lineman's status is "going in the right direction."
"If there's an arrow, it's trending upwards," McVay said Friday following the Rams' first practice in full pads.
The Rams are currently working out at Loyola Marymount University through Aug. 6, but McVay indicated any decision on Donald possibly ending his retirement would not come until they return to their facility in the San Fernando Valley.
"That'll be something that, I think, once we get back to Woodland Hills, we'll have a better idea of what that timeline looks like. There won't be any decision and anything in terms of Aaron's situation while we're here. That's kind of already been set out when we've talked for the past couple weeks," McVay said.
A three-time AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year and eight-time All-Pro, Donald retired in March 2024 as the Rams' career leader in sacks with 111 in 154 games. One of the most disruptive linemen in league history, he helped Los Angeles win a ****** le following the 2021 season. Donald made game-ending defensive plays in both the NFC championship game and the Super Bowl.
