A member of the summer recruitment drive at La Liga giants Real Madrid is in line for a starting berth in the club's opening fixture of the new campaign.
That's according to Diario AS, who highlight Denzel Dumfries as the player in question.
Defender Dumfries was of course snapped up by the Bernabéu brass earlier this summer, in a cut-price deal from Italian champions Inter Milan. The Dutchman has since gone on to play a leading role for Real Madrid in pre-season, featuring from the off against all of Fiorentina, Ferencváros and Deportivo La Coruña.
And if the latest word stemming from the Spanish media is anything to go by, then this level of prominence is no coincidence…

The Las Vegas Raiders don't want to start Fernando Mendoza to begin the regular season. But curious fans should get a long look at him in the preseason.
Raiders coach Klint Kubiak confirmed that Mendoza will play in Thursday's preseason opener at home against the Arizona Cardinals. The first overall pick in this year's NFL Draft will get "plenty of experience in the game" though he didn't specify how much Mendoza will play, via the team's site.
"Look forward to seeing him out there with his teammates," Kubiak said, according to Raiders.com. "Lot of guys that we need to evaluate but he'll get plenty of reps."
Considering the Raiders' plan to have Kirk Cousins begin the season as their starter, Mendoza might be the top must-watch player this preseason.

Willie Cauley-Stein's latest story suggests that the Sacramento Kings held him back from potentially achieving what he could have.
During the 2015 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings selected Willie Cauley-Stein with the No. 6 overall pick. The big man was expected to develop into a long-term solution at the five for the organisation.
However, in 2019, at the end of his rookie deal, he joined the Golden State Warriors as a free agent. The big man then bounced to a couple more teams before he was effectively out of the league by 2022.
And while Cauley-Stein never exactly panned out, things could have been different for the Kentucky alum. And his recent story isn't a great look for the Kings franchise, either.

US President Donald Trump has warned FIFA would be making a "terrible mistake" if they get rid of Gianni Infantino as the head of world football's governing body.
Infantino has come under pressure following his doomed plan to sell off stakes in the men's World Cup to private investors.
But in a post on his Truth Social social media site early on Tuesday, Trump said removing the FIFA president would be a costly move.
The US president wrote: "FIFA would be making a terrible mistake if, for any reason, they even considered replacing President Gianni Infantino.

The 2027 NFL Draft will take place in Washington, D.C. next year. In that draft, the Vikings still have their first-round pick, but a lot could happen in the next 9 months. Before then, though, there will be plenty of speculation and buildup for the team and who they may add to the roster through the draft in a class that many are saying could be one of generational wealth.
Pro Football Network recently released the latest 2027 NFL mock draft of the cycle. Within that mock, they have the Vikings landing SEC running back Kewan Lacy. The All-American running back is poised for a big season in the toughest conference, and it could lead to him becoming the top running back in the class.
They explain the Lacy pick, writing, "Less than a year out from the 2027 NFL Draft, there doesn't appear to be a clear favorite for the class's RB1 mantle. That doesn't mean there's no talent, though, as Ole Miss's Kewan Lacy showed in 2025. Lacy led the FBS in carries (306) and led the SEC in rushing touchdowns (24), while displaying dual-threat ability with 29 receptions for 177 yards. The Minnesota Vikings are in desperate need of a premium rusher if they're to climb back to relevance in the NFC."
Lacy would become the instant RB1 with the Vikings if he landed with them. Arguably, he could get that type of buzz anywhere, but the Vikings would be a homerun spot for him and Minnesota would benefit by allowing them to establush a run game once again.

Roma face more competition for Real Madrid starlet Endrick, as Spanish reports claim Aston Villa have joined them in trying to get the Brazil international on loan.
The Giallorossi had positioned themselves as the hot favourites to bring in Endrick, in case Real Madrid were to agree to a loan for this season in a similar situation to Franco Mastantuono at Fiorentina.

The others were former UFL linebacker Garrett Nelson and undrafted rookie defensive lineman Brien Taylor Jr. Deion Jones returns to New Orleans, where he was born and raised, as a 10-year NFL veteran with the last two seasons spent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
A three-star recruit at Jesuit High School in New Orleans, Jones landed with the LSU Tigers for his collegiate career. In four years at LSU, he had 5 sacks and 21 stops for loss among 165 total tackles. His senior campaign of 2015 was his best, as Jones recorded 2 interceptions, 5 sacks, a team-best 13.5 tackles for loss, and a team-leading 100 total tackles.
Jones was a second-round choice, the 52nd overall selection, by none other than the Atlanta Falcons in the 2016 NFL Draft. He saw immediate stardom with the Falcons, earning 2016 All-Rookie honors. That season, Jones had 3 interceptions, returning 2 for touchdowns, to go along with 11 passes broken up and 108 tackles. He'd lead the NFL with 165 interception return yards and led the Falcons in interceptions, total tackles, and solo stops.
Jones was just as formidable in 2017, earning the only Pro Bowl of his 10-year career. He had 3 interceptions that season, breaking up 10 throws with a sack and a team-best 138 tackles. Injuries limited Jones to only six games in 2018, though he still had 2 interceptions. He'd return in 2019 and has remained pretty durable since, though his production steadily declined.
Jones was with the Falcons for six seasons. Over that span he had 11 interceptions, 5 of which were returned for touchdowns. He also added 8.5 sacks, forced 5 fumbles, recorded 40 stops for loss, and had over 105 tackles in five separate campaigns. Upon leaving Atlanta Jones had one season with the Cleveland Browns in 2022, one with the Carolina Panthers in 2024, and the last two with the Buccaneers. Jones started just eight of his 43 games with those three teams in four years. He intercepted 2 passes and broke up 9 others, recording 3.5 sacks and 109 tackles with 10 for loss.

Florida football junior center Harrison Moore has been named to the Rimington Trophy watch list, an award given to college football's top center.
A transfer from Georgia Tech, the 6-foot-4, 293-pound Moore appeared in 11 games and made eight starts for the Yellow Jackets in 2025. Moore helped anchor an offensive line that allowed just nine sacks (0.69 per game) during the season.
The Trophy Committee worked with Pro Football Focus (PFF) to narrow down its list to the top 40 centers PFF grades every player on every play of every game on how well they execute their given ******* ignment. That play-by-play grading allowed the Trophy committee to create a watchlist based both on nominations from the schools and data provided by PFF.
Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus first-team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the John Outland Trophy's only two-time winner as the nation's finest college interior lineman.
Moore is projected to replace former Florida Gators center Jake Slaughter, a two-time All-American and two-time Rimington Award finalist in 2024 and 2025. Slaughter was taken in the second round by the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2026 NFL draft.

Ex-PFL fighter Logan Storley had the charges against him dropped after he was arrested on **** ual **** ault allegations back in May in Key West, Fla.
Online records in Monroe County show that prosecutors closed the case while canceling the next court hearing, which was originally scheduled for Aug. 3. No further details were made available, but the case is now closed and Storley is cleared from the charges.

Dust off those boots because professional bull riding is coming to Oklahoma City this weekend.
The Oklahoma Wildcatters will host their annual homestand, Wildcatter Days, at Paycom Center from July 31-Aug. 2.
Wildcatter Days is the second event of the PBR Teams series, where 10 teams of drafted riders compete weekly for the championship in November. The team format debuted in 2022, with the Oklahoma Wildcatters joining the league in 2024.
After opening weekend, the Texas Rattlers lead the standings as the only 2-0 team. The Wildcatters are tied for eighth at 1-1 with 350 points. Each team sends five riders per competition, with each ride scored out of 100 points based on the rider's control and the bull's bucking performance.
Veteran collegiate coach Greg Rhodes was hired as the Oklahoma Wildcatters head coach for the 2026 season after the team parted ways with two-time PBR world champion J.B. Mauney. Rhodes was previously the head coach at Western Texas College, where he developed numerous national champions and top PBR riders.

It has been revealed that the competition will now be known as the Subway Players Cup. Subway have agreed a new multi-year deal to remain the competition's principle sponsor.
The format of the competition is also changing. The group stage will adopt a Swiss-style league phase containing regional fixtures. Clubs will play a minimum of six league phase matches, an increase on previous years.
The eight highest-ranked clubs will progress to the knockout phase which is similar to what has been played out previously.

Real Madrid have been quiet on the signing front for several weeks, but they could be about to land a major double blow. They are in talks to sign Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig, while efforts are also being made to land Manchester City and Spain superstar Rodri.
Going into the summer, Real Madrid were clear that a top-level midfielder was wanted to finally fill the voids left by Toni Kroos and Luka Modric. Head coach Jose Mourinho had wanted Enzo Fernandez, but after Chelsea priced him out of a move, they have since turned their attention to Rodri.
Real Madrid have been keen on Rodri for some time, although it was expected that they would not move for him this summer. But with the Fernandez snub and his top performances for Spain at the 2026 World Cup, the decision has been made for a deal to be sought for the Man City man, as reported by The Athletic's David Ornstein.
There is every chance that Real Madrid manage to get a deal done for Rodri. Man City will be forced to accept a reduced fee if they sell, given that the 30-year-old has less than a year remaining on his contract in Manchester. Because of this, confidence is high within Los Blancos that a deal can be done for one of the world's best midfielders to join Mourinho's squad for the 2026-27 season and beyond.
Furthermore, Rodri is desperate to join Real Madrid this summer, as per Ben Jacobs. It's been a good half-decade for wide receiver play in the NFC South, with both the New Orleans Saints and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers racking up Pro Bowls and All-Pro recognition over the years. Many of the division's best wideouts have gone on to sign lucrative contract extensions, too, reflecting their importance to their teams and the rising expectations put in front of them (as was the case for Drake London and the Atlanta Falcons). While the Carolina Panthers were left on the outside looking in, here are our picks for the All-NFC South Team of the 2020s (so far) at wide receiver.
One key stat we're relying on is Approximate Value from Pro Football Reference, which PFR defines as "an attempt to put a single number on the seasonal value of a player at any position from any year." In practice, that means giving higher numbers to player who start more games, play more snaps, and do more to help their team win by racking up yards, scoring touchdowns, creating turnovers and sacking quarterbacks, and so on. We're also **** igning point values to being named a first-team All-Pro (ten points), second-team All-Pro (five points), and Pro Bowler (three points). And then we're adding those numbers together. Remember, these are all-decade teams for the NFC South, which didn't exist until 2002, and only contributions on the four teams in the division factor into our formula. INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham doubled down Wednesday on comments she made in a recently published ESPN article, saying it’s “common sense” to bar transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports.
In the ESPN article, Cunningham said she wanted to “protect young girls in the locker room” and that “they shouldn’t have to go against biological men.”
“I said what I said. I think it’s kind of common sense,” Cunningham said before Wednesday’s home game against the Connecticut Sun. “And I think I’ll always believe in that. I think it’s really important to protect children, and that’s little girls who are also involved in that category. I stand on what I said.”
The participation of transgender athletes in sports has become an increasingly politicized issue, with the Supreme Court recently upholding individual state bans on trans athletes competing in sports alongside cisgender athletes. The ruling came roughly a year after President Donald Trump issued an executive order attempting to block trans athletes from competing in girls’ and women’s sports.
Cunningham added that she’s “not a very political person,” but her morals compelled her to speak out. She also stated that her stance on trans athletes is not indicative of which side of the political aisle she falls on.
