As soon as Wynter Smith hustles back onto the Brandeis sideline, he takes a moment to acknowledge his teammates.
"He's the one scoring all the touchdowns, getting all the yards but when we get on the sideline, every single time we get there, he's coming up to the receivers saying, 'Good job, way to block,'" Brandeis senior wide receiver Grayson Hallmark said.
The quarterback also makes sure his offensive line is happy. Hallmark says Smith will even buy his linemen food at lunch.
"He doesn't have a big ego or anything like that," Hallmark said. "He stays humble."
Other players have taken notice of how the third-year starter's leadership extends beyond the varsity squad.

The Junior Players Championship begins its third decade Sept. 4-6 at the Players Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass.
This will be the 20th edition of the American Junior Golf ******* ociation invitational and the field is loaded as usual, with 15 of the top 25 players on the AJGA rankings as of July 31, including a pair of University of Florida commits, No. 4 Jessy Huebner of Port St. Lucie and No. 7 Guiseppe Puebla of Royal Palm Beach.

The Charlotte Hornets revamped their roster in many ways after a ninth-place finish in the Eastern Conference during the 2025-26 season. LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges are the most notable departures, with Naz Reid, Grayson Allen and Dennis Schroder headlining the list of acquisitions.
Following these moves, ESPN took the time to preview the Hornets ahead of the 2026-27 season. In that preview, ESPN ranked Charlotte as the No. 20 team in their power index. This number is slightly down from last season's production, as the Hornets finished with the 17th-best record between both conferences a season ago. That said, the Hornets were given an "A-" grade for their offseason moves, building for the future while remaining hopeful to compete for a playoff spot, which would be their first since the 2015-16 season.

ANAHEIM, Calif. — After a whirlwind of a day with the announcement that owner Arte Moreno was selling a majority stake of the team to Stan Kroenke, the night concluded with the Angels' 7-3 loss against the Yankees.
It was a similar story to the other 85 losses the Angels have had this season, but here are some notes from the game that stood out.
The Angels were down quickly, as right-hander Grayson Rodriguez allowed a two-run home run to Spencer Jones and then a solo shot to Jazz Chisholm Jr. the very next batter to give the Yankees an early 3-0 lead. But after that, Rodriguez settled in and allowed one more run the rest of the outing.
His final line was four earned runs in six innings of work with seven strikeouts and two strikeouts.
"Changeup started working a little bit better for me, made some adjustments with it," Rodriguez said was the key to settling in after the first inning. "They took some bad swings on it, so really worked that into the game plan."

Spencer Jones was, is, and will always be an enigma. He's an incredibly divisive player, one who dazzles with his pure athleticism at his hulking size, with true light-tower power, all with an Achilles heel of struggling mightily to make contact. He's a true four-tool player and will test the absolute limits of just how good a player with those tools can be, with arguably the most important tool completely missing from his toolshed.
Jones has had his highs and lows this season, but the reality is that he's steadily improved over the course of the season, particularly after each promotion. He's getting by with his clear weaknesses, while not looking overmatched against velocity or left-handed pitching, two things that always were his bugaboos in the minors. Tonight in Anaheim, as September 1st bled into September 2nd, he was the catalyst in a 7-3 Yankees win that washed the bad taste of Monday night out of everyone's mouths.
The Yankees were abhorrent in the first inning in August. As a team, they slashed .138/.214/.202 with just two total runs across 27 games, both on August 26th against Houston. Well, on the first day of September, they put up three in the first inning against Grayson Rodriguez on a pair of home runs by Jones and Jazz Chisholm Jr. The former hit his second ****** anic shot to right-center field in as many nights, while the latter snuck an excuse-me liner inside the left-field foul pole for one of the more fascinating home runs you'll ever see.

Bayern Munich's connection to Red&Gold Football, as co-founders alongside Los Angelese FC, has seen the club expand its' youth movement. Players from Red&Gold Football partner clubs train and trial in Munich, with Bara Sapoko Ndiaye one of many to trial and the first to succeed in earning a move to Bayern, while acquired players move between these clubs, such as when Armindo Sieb left for LAFC.
One of the benefits most apparent to the average fan Bayern enjoyed was the ability to loan players out to Grasshopper Zürich. The Swiss Super League team was never part Red&Gold Football, but LAFC were majority stakeholders at the club and that connection allowed Bayern to send loan players to Switzerland to get their feet wet in professional football. Grayson Dettoni, Nestory Irankunda, Jonathan Asp Jensen and Lovro Zvonarek all had stints in Zürich.
But that will no longer happen. As of the end of June 2026, LAFC sold their majority stake in Grasshopper Zürich. As reported by Tzmuenchen (and captured by iMiaSanMia) this ends their status as potential loan destination for Bayern talents:

RABUN GAP, Ga. — In a battle of two nationally ranked teams, Venice defeated Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School, 42-40 in overtime on the final play of the game to begin the 2026 season 1-0.
While the defenses were quiet in the second half, Venice's unit made the winning play, resulting in a field storming of Indians players and coaches after the near 10-hour trip to the Northeast Georgia Mountains.
Needing a 2-point conversion to stay alive, Rabun Gap quarterback Grayson Clary rolled to his right and fired a pass to the end zone for receiver Alanson Simmons, a tandem that connected for a touchdown earlier in the fourth quarter. Clary's pass fell incomplete as Venice's Micah Hayes arose from the trio of Indian defenders to knock the ball away.
Perhaps the most crucial decision of the night came from Venice head football coach John Peacock. After taking a 40-34 lead on the first play of overtime behind Dorien Jones' fifth touchdown of the night, Peacock elected to go for two, rather than kick the point after.

HOUSTON (AP) — Zach Neto was 5-for-6 with his 21st homer and a career-high seven RBIs and the Los Angeles Angels scored their most runs in three years to rout the Houston Astros 18-3 on Thursday night.
The Angels had a season-high 18 hits and scored their most runs since a 25-1 victory over Colorado on June 24, 2023.

Between the trio of Pat Connaughton, Grant Williams and Coby White, they've combined for 152 games of playoff experience. That said, four of their main additions have an abundance of playoff minutes as well. Charlotte's most recent addition, Dennis Schroder, has appeared in 91 career playoff games. Veteran wing Royce O'Neale has played in 52 playoff games. Naz Reid has played in 48 playoff contests while Grayson Allen has suited up in 28. Lastly, 3-and-D wing Dorian Finney-Smith has played in 44 postseason matchups as well.
Not only will this added experience aid the Hornets in pursuit of the postseason, but these veterans will also be able to mentor Charlotte's young core headlined by Brandon Miller and Kon Knueppel that has yet to reach the playoffs.

SEYMOUR, Tenn. (WATE) - The Seymour Eagles are hoping to build on the foundation they laid last fall in their first season under head coach Caleb Olive.
Seymour finished 5-5, earning the program's most wins since 2021. The Eagles graduated a strong senior class of nearly a dozen players, but they also return plenty of experience, giving the team confidence heading into the new season.
Olive was hired last March, giving him a short offseason to install his system. This year, the Eagles have had a full offseason together and feel more settled in Olive's system.
"Last year, he came in a little late, and we were kind of just playing catch-up a little bit, trying to get everything put in," Seymour senior Corey Helton said. "This year, it's definitely been nice to have him back for the full time."
Senior Grayson Davis said the extra time has helped strengthen the relationship between the players and their coach.

With more and more teams hitting the field later this week, USA TODAY Sports is releasing its Week 0 rankings — its final preseason look at the top teams entering the 2026 high school football season.
At the top remains IMG Academy (Bradenton, FL), which is coming off an undefeated season and has talent superior to the rest of the country. At Nos. 2 and 3 sit St. John Bosco (Bellflower, CA) and Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, NV), a pair of teams who will face each other this coming Friday in a battle of top-3 teams.

As another Georgia high school football season kicks off, championship expectations, national recruits and marquee matchups once again dominate the conversation across the Peach State. From powerhouse programs loaded with Division I talent to rising contenders looking to crash the ******* le picture, there is no shortage of storylines heading into the 2026 season.
1. Buford Wolves: Until you knock them off, it is hard not to put Buford on top. The Wolves know how to win. They expect to win. Buford lost a lot, especially at the skill positions, but new names will step in, led by quarterback DJ Hunter, they will play a tough schedule and be ready for December when that time comes.
2. Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets: Thomas County Central may have been playing the best football in Georgia when the season ended last year. Some key contributors graduated, but return many key contributors, and when all is said and done in December, it would be surprising to see the Yellow Jackets hoisting up the trophy for a third time in four years.
3. Creekside Seminoles: Maurice Dixon and Creekside had the perfect 15-0 season a year ago and broke records while doing so. Their offense scored 845 points in 15 games, so can they repeat? Buford lost a lot, especially at the skill positions, but new names will step in, led by quarterback DJ Hunter, they will play a tough schedule and be ready for December when that time comes.
2. Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets: Thomas County Central may have been playing the best football in Georgia when the season ended last year. Some key contributors graduated, but return many key contributors, and when all is said and done in December, it would be surprising to see the Yellow Jackets hoisting up the trophy for a third time in four years.

PHOENIX (AP) — The Phoenix Suns and veteran forward Dillon Brooks agreed to a $73 million, three-year extension on Wednesday that will keep him with the team through 2030, according to two people familiar with the deal.

The 30-year-old Brooks averaged a career-high 20.2 points last season, his first with the Suns. He provided scoring and a hard-nosed defensive personality that helped the team make a surprise run to the playoffs.

If I had a nickel for every time the Royals traded a left-handed starting pitcher that some people felt was better in the bullpen on an expiring deal, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice.
It's sad to see Kris Bubic go. I still wonder if the Royals might try to bring him back on a one-year deal to a rapidly depleting pitching staff next year. There were strong rumors that the Royals had a deal worked out to send Bubic to the Angels for Taylor Ward this past offseason when Baltimore convinced them to take Grayson Rodriguez instead. Obviously, his value has diminished with a second straight season derailed by injury. Especially because no one seems to quite understand the nature of the injury. But he's no longer the Royals' problem.
Carlos Duran is a big right-handed reliever that the Dodgers added as a minor league free agent last year. He has struck out 12 batters per 9 innings but also walked nearly 6 per 9 in AAA for them this season. He still has a 3.38 ERA, though. He just turned 25 last week, and while he did make his major league debut last season, he only pitched 1/3 of an inning for the Athletics. You have to wonder if he could serve more as help in the Royals' bullpen this year than a prospect for next season.
Kris's true value seems like it's probably far less than their model indicates since he's currently on the 60-day IL and no one seems to know when he might return. If the Royals can turn Duran into a serviceable reliever, this would seem like a huge win for them.

CHICAGO (AP) — A former Illinois sheriff's deputy won't get an early medical release from his two-decade prison sentence for killing Sonya Massey inside her home after the Black woman called 911 about a possible prowler, state officials decided Friday.
Sean Grayson had been diagnosed with colon cancer prior to the 2024 shooting, and his attorney noted in January that the cancer had advanced to his liver and lungs.

The 2026 SEC media days have come and gone this week in Tampa, Florida, and that means we're one step closer to the college football regular season.
As per usual, the SEC released the Preseason Media Poll All-SEC team on Friday, which was voted on by the media that was on hand covering this week's event. After the Oklahoma Sooners had just three players make the all-league predictions a year ago, OU was much more well-represented in 2026.
On the first team, both kicker Tate Sandell and long snapper Ben Anderson represented the Sooners. Sandell returned after winning the Lou Groza Award last season, while Anderson has established himself as one of the league's best long snappers over the course of his career.
OU had eight players selected to the second team. Wide receiver Isaiah Sategna III, offensive lineman Michael Fasusi, defensive linemen David Stone and Taylor Wein, linebacker Kip Lewis, defensive backs Eli Bowen and Peyton Bowen, and kicker/punter Grayson Miller all got the nod.
Sategna returns as OU's top wide receiver after showing off his explosiveness last year. Fasusi had an impressive true freshman season in Norman, establishing himself as Oklahoma's starting left tackle. POTOMAC PARK — Walker Smith struck out 13 in five-plus strong innings, and the Cresaptown Eagles defeated Frostburg, 6-2, in a Mountain League Baseball Junior Division semifinal game on Wednesday at Memorial Field.

As the annual NBA free agent and trade market heats up, two former Blue Devil teammates are on the move: Brandon Ingram has been traded to the Los Angeles Clippers, while Luke Kennard has left the Los Angeles Lakers and signed with the Phoenix Suns as a free agent.
L.A. also got Gradey ******* , unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033, a 2027 first-round swap, and two unidentified second-round picks.
Leonard is a wonderful player, but he’s 35 now and he’s missed significant parts of every season since 2022-23. Last year, he did play 65 games, but that means he still missed 17 games, and that was his best year in a while.
The odds of that improving a lot at 35 are not that great, and he’s on the back end of his career already, so in the long run, you’d have to think that the Clippers will come out ahead.
As for Kennard and the Suns, he will fill in nicely for the recently traded Grayson Allen. Kennard, Allen, and going forward, Kon Knueppel, are all tremendous three-point shooters. Basically, if you want a three-point ace, look to Duke.

A 23-year-old Kentucky man has been charged with boating under the influence after one of his female passengers disappeared while on his pontoon boat.
Cameron Conley was arrested on charges of boating under the influence Wednesday after he alerted the Grayson Lake Marina staff in Carter County that Marly Kinney, 19, was no longer on his boat and that he could not find her.

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Grayson Rodriguez will begin his rehab ****** ignment with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga Sunday.
The Angels acquired Rodriguez in the offseason from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for outfielder Taylor Ward, but things haven’t quite gone to plan for the right-hander so far this season.
Rodriguez began the year on the IL with right shoulder inflammation, and went down once again in the middle of June with lower back inflammation. He threw just 2.1 innings in his most recent start against the Tampa Bay Rays, exiting the game after his back flared up on his second-to-last pitch of the third inning.

While Rodriguez went on the injured list, neither he nor manager Kurt Suzuki were overly worried about the injury when it happened. Suzuki described the move to the IL as “precautionary.”
The Angels acquired Rodriguez in the offseason from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for outfielder Taylor Ward, but things haven’t quite gone to plan for the right-hander so far this season.
Rodriguez began the year on the IL with right shoulder inflammation, and went down once again in the middle of June with lower back inflammation. He threw just 2.1 innings in his most recent start against the Tampa Bay Rays, exiting the game after his back flared up on his second-to-last pitch of the third inning.
