Freight broker insurance is in a frenzy, and premium hikes are getting ugly. Thom Albrecht helps break down how the CH Robinson verdict, underwriting pullback and cargo theft are driving double-digit to triple-digit cost increases for brokers. He also explains what's changing in excess liability, why some underwriters are exiting the market, and what carriers and brokers should watch into peak season. If you move freight, this is a real cost story—not noise.
Freight broker insurance has entered a full-blown pricing crisis, with excess liability coverage costs rising 50% to triple digits and even primary coverage climbing sharply in the double digits — all since a pair of legal shocks hit the market this spring. The turmoil is forcing brokers to rethink coverage limits, vendor technology relationships, and renewal strategies ahead of what ***** ysts expect will be a prolonged inflationary environment.
The disruption unfolded in three phases, according to Thom Albrecht, who discussed the market dynamics during this SONAR Market Update. The first was "total chaos" following the Montgomery Supreme Court decision on May 14, which exposed brokers to motor-carrier-style liability. A brief calm in June ended abruptly on July 23, when the C.H. Robinson verdict — a $135 million judgment — rattled underwriters again. "We've seen two underwriters exit the market, basically backing the paper over in London," Albrecht said. "So there's gonna be fewer options, a very inflationary environment, and there's gonna be more questions that are asked of freight brokers than ever before as they go through their renewals."
On primary coverage — the first $5 million of freight broker auto liability, or FBAL — Albrecht said increases are running in the "middle" double digits, well above 10% but short of 90%. For excess or surplus coverage above $5 million, the picture is far worse. Smaller brokers with gross revenues of $30 million to $40 million that were paying roughly $10,000 a year for coverage could now face bills of $30,000 to $40,000. Larger brokers seeking excess capacity above $5 million are confronting 50% to 60% increases at the low end and triple-digit hikes at the top.
"The word to use is it's a total frenzy right now," Albrecht said, describing the post-verdict insurance environment for freight brokers.

Mercedes technical director James Allison believes reliability will be the key factor in deciding which way the F1 **** le race swings over the second half of the season.
Kimi Antonelli leads the drivers' championship by 50 points with a scheduled 12 rounds remaining, with Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton his closest challenger and George Russell a further five points back.
Mercedes, meanwhile, have a 72-point lead in the constructors' championship over Ferrari as Formula 1 returns this weekend with the final iteration of the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort.
Allison, who leads Mercedes's power unit programme and has now been at the team for a decade, believes that the potential cost of losing a maximum of 25 points with a mechanical failure is more significant than updates over the remaining weekends.
"Everyone naturally focuses on upgrades because they're visible and they're exciting, but reliability may end up having a much bigger impact on the championship," Allison told Mercedes' Nu Silver Arrows Radio Show.

Buoyed by Mercedes' strong results in the first half of the season, Toto Wolff is hoping the team can add Zandvoort to its list of successes at the upcoming Dutch Grand Prix, a circuit where the Brackley-based team has yet to win since its return to the Formula 1 calendar in 2021.
The W17 has undoubtedly been the strongest car on the grid so far this season, at times even proving dominant, with six victories from the opening 11 races. That tally could have been even higher without a number of reliability issues that have forced both drivers to retire from races.
Speaking ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix weekend, Wolff acknowledged that Mercedes still has work to do despite its strong first half of the season. The team has missed opportunities to maximise its points haul, while its rivals have managed to close the performance gap, increasing the pressure heading into the remaining 12 races.
"We have left points on the table, our rivals have reduced the performance gap, and we know the second half of the year will demand more from us than the first."
The Mercedes team principal believes the outcome of the championships will largely depend on how effectively the team executes each weekend and how much performance it can extract through development. Although Mercedes is currently on a slightly different upgrade schedule compared to its rivals, Wolff remains confident that there is further potential to unlock from the car and that the team has a clear plan for its upcoming developments.

Of all the recruitment decisions a Premier League club makes in a given summer, the one that most often defines its season is also the one clubs seem least equipped to get right.
Not the marquee striker, not the midfield general, but the goalkeeper. It is the position where a single error is replayed for a week, where the qualities that matter most are the hardest to measure, and where the cost of indecision is paid in dropped points long before it shows up in a highlight reel.
The modern game has quietly made the job more complicated than it has ever been, and the clubs that treat goalkeeper recruitment as a straightforward search for the best shot-stopper are increasingly finding themselves a step behind.
For most of the sport's history the brief was simple. A goalkeeper kept the ball out of the net, and the best ones kept out more than the rest. That version still matters, but it is no longer the whole job, and in some systems it is not even the most important part of it.
The shift toward playing out from the back has turned the goalkeeper into the first phase of a team's build-up. Managers now want a keeper who can receive the ball under pressure, draw a presser in and break a line with distribution, and hold a high defensive line's worth of nerve when the alternative is a hopeful clearance. Those are different skills from reflex shot-stopping, and occasionally they pull in opposite directions. A brilliant shot-stopper who is uncomfortable in possession can be a liability in a possession-based side, while a superb passer who is shaky under a high ball can undermine a team that defends deep.

Cadillac surprised everyone after ending terms with Graeme Lowdon after the first half of F1 2026, as Dan Towriss explains the reasoning behind it.
With the F1 circus getting back into race mode post the summer break, Cadillac kick-started the news cycle by announcing the departure of team principal Lowdon and replacing him with Marcin Budkowski. The news came as a surprise considering that it's been only half a season in American outfit's first full season.
Former Manor boss Lowdon returned to the F1 grid with Cadillac, as he joined the American outfit even before they were confirmed to make it as the 11th team on the grid. He did the big job of getting everyone together as one team – including the drivers – and start the journey in the winter test to the first half of 2026.
Although the results haven't come by for them thus far, with reliability issues popping up at most rounds, Lowdon did a fair job operationally at trackside. While there has been communication issues from factory to track, but it is part of a problem that any new F1 team would face in its first season.
TWG Motorsports' Dan Towriss acknowledged the work done by Lowdon in getting everything together, but noted that it was always the plan to find a F1 team principal in long-term, especially someone who is from technical background. The American said that there were conversations about a potential transition, just that the timing wasn't fixed.

A federal appeals court removed another procedural obstacle facing more than 3,000 lawsuits accusing Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META), Snap Inc. (NYSE:SNAP), Alphabet, and TikTok of harming young users through allegedly addictive product features.
The Ninth Circuit did not decide whether the companies are liable. It ruled that Section 230 provides a defense against liability, not immunity from being sued, making Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META) and TikTok's appeal premature.
Section 230 has already helped narrow the litigation. The lower court found that it barred some feature-related claims while allowing others to proceed. The larger investor question is whether the surviving claims can create a liability channel based on product design rather than content moderation.
With more than 3,000 federal cases, approximately 3,300 additional California state cases, and a major multistate trial approaching, that question is now being tested repeatedly in court.
The strongest point for Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META) and Snap Inc. (NYSE:SNAP) is that the Ninth Circuit resolved a procedural question, not the merits of the lawsuits.

Freight brokers often face hidden risks with their trailer insurance. Andy Kuchar, President of Centerline Insurance Company, reveals why many trailers are "criminally underinsured" and how common policies exclude crucial over-the-road coverage. Learn the red flags in your current insurance and how dedicated policies protect against massive liabilities, even for small incidents.
Freight brokers operating trailer pools may be carrying insurance that provides virtually no protection when those trailers are in use on the road. Andy Kuchar, of Centerline — an insurance company owned by Watkins ***** ociated Industries, the family behind Watkins Motor Lines that became FedEx Freight — said the problem surfaced clearly when his firm launched a dedicated trailer insurance product roughly five and a half years ago.
Kuchar said the first policy he reviewed after entering the market, written by a major carrier he declined to name, contained a specific exclusion for trailers over the road. The broker holding that policy believed it was fully covered and had thousands of trailers in its fleet. "The coverage was with a great company. It was inexpensive, but it didn't really cover anything," Kuchar said.
"I think you need to start asking some very pointed questions of your insurance agent to say, do I really have this covered? And show me." — Andy Kuchar, Centerline
The stakes are rising for brokers following the post-Montgomery legal environment, where plaintiffs' attorneys are increasingly bypassing small single-truck carriers — who typically carry only $1 million in coverage against a federal minimum of $750,000 — and targeting brokers directly because of their deeper pockets. Providing a trailer to a motor carrier adds a distinct layer of liability beyond brokering a load, Kuchar said, because the equipment itself can be named in litigation. He cited one claim where a worker unloading building materials from a parked trailer was killed in an accident; the trailer lessor was pulled into the lawsuit. "Today to get somebody out of a claim is usually at least $100,000," he said.

Training camp stars emerge every summer. No one who watched a few exciting weeks of Paul Turner needs to be reminded of that, but it's also true that some guys will flash for a few Philadelphia Eagles practices before fading into the background. Others force their way into conversations that eventually become impossible to ignore. Second-year receiver Darius Cooper appears to be heading toward the second category.
The Eagles added Cooper as an undrafted rookie last offseason, and he eventually battled his way onto the roster. This time around, he entered camp where there was no shortage of intrigue at wide receiver, but much of the attention had shifted to newcomers like Hollywood Brown, Elijah Moore, and Dontayvion Wicks.
Rookie Makai Lemon was a major talking point, but unfortunately, the narrative has shifted to a hamstring injury that temporarily slowed his progress. Meanwhile, Cooper has quietly continued doing what he's done since arriving in Philadelphia: making plays and earning trust. What began as local buzz has now grown into something larger.
It's seemingly no fluke. Cooper has been one of the most frequently mentioned players in training camp reports throughout the summer. Whether discussing chemistry with Jalen Hurts, contested catches, or reliability in traffic, reporters covering the team have repeatedly highlighted Cooper's development.
Now that praise is reaching a national audience. Recently, ESPN's Tim McManus offered another set of camp notes and identified Cooper as Philadelphia's top performer through the early stages of training camp.

Leeds United are advancing in their pursuit of Nico Elvedi, with personal terms now reportedly agreed between the player and the Yorkshire club ahead of a potential move from Borussia Monchengladbach. As first reported by Florian Plettenberg, the proposed contract would run until 2029, with Leeds now expected to step up club-to-club negotiations.
This is shaping up to be another significant move in a summer that already carries real weight at Elland Road. Leeds have approached this window with purpose after securing Premier League survival last season, finishing 14th, and there is a clear sense that Daniel Farke wants to push the squad beyond simply staying up. Recruitment has reflected that ambition, with Harry Wilson arriving on a free transfer, Tarik Muharemovic joining for £34m and James Trafford signing from Manchester City for a club-record £40m.
Elvedi looks like a natural fit for where Leeds are heading. The 29-year-old brings experience, reliability and a level of tactical understanding that matters when a side is trying to become more stable in the Premier League. Borussia Monchengladbach are believed to be open to a sale if the conditions are right, while the player is understood to be keen on the opportunity to test himself in England.
From Leeds' perspective, the timing also makes sense. Defensive reinforcement has become a pressing priority after Pascal Struijk's departure to Brighton, especially with Farke having leaned into a back-three system during the run-in last season. Elvedi has the profile to suit that shape, given his reading of the game, composure in possession and comfort operating in an organised defensive unit.
There is also a valuable personal element to this pursuit. Farke knows Elvedi well from their time together in Germany, and that familiarity often helps move a deal from interest to genuine conviction. Managers do not push this hard unless they feel a player can improve the floor and ceiling of the side.

Fleet safety directors spend years building compliance programs that ****** ody ever asks them to defend out loud, and when someone finally does, it is a plaintiff's attorney with a court reporter in the room. Trucksafe Consulting is selling the rehearsal.
The DOT compliance consultancy will hold its fifth annual Fleet Compliance Bootcamp Sept. 16-17, 2026, at the Crowne Plaza Indianapolis-Downtown-Union Station, and this year's program adds a half-day Live Deposition Simulation and Rule 30(b)(6) Preparation Seminar on Sept. 18.
Trucking deposition preparation usually begins after a lawsuit is filed, which is also the point at which the record stops being fixable. Attendees will watch a realistic deposition of a fleet safety director in a serious highway-accident case. Plaintiff and defense attorneys will demonstrate the questioning strategies, document issues and credibility challenges they use in live cases. A panel discussion afterward will examine how testimony and company records affect liability exposure and settlement value.
"Today, a compliance failure rarely stays confined to an enforcement proceeding," said Brandon Wiseman, president and founder of Trucksafe Consulting. "After a serious accident, attorneys will scrutinize years of driver files, maintenance records, safety data, policies, emails and management decisions."
The exposure is retroactive, and it reaches documents ****** ody wrote expecting an audience.

Michele Di Gregorio struggled during Juventus' 2-1 loss against Inter Milan in a recent friendly match, conceding two goals that he could arguably have saved. The goalkeeper made several fine saves during the game and performed well in other moments, but the goals he conceded could have been avoided and once again highlighted why Juventus are considering adding another goalkeeper to their squad this summer.
Di Gregorio joined Juventus from Monza as one of the finest goalkeepers in Italian football, and there were high expectations that he would continue to improve after moving to Turin. However, it remains difficult to determine whether he has developed as expected, with his performances continuing to be inconsistent.
The goalkeeper has shown that he can produce top-class performances, but he can also make costly mistakes only minutes later. That inconsistency has become a concern for Juventus, who need greater reliability in goal if they are to compete at the highest level.
At present, Di Gregorio shares the number one role with Mattia Perin, partly because of concerns over his reliability. Luciano Spalletti is therefore pushing for the club to sign another goalkeeper, which could increase competition for the position and provide Juventus with another dependable option.
The need for another goalkeeper has become more apparent following Di Gregorio's performance against Inter Milan. Although his mistakes were costly, Spalletti did not place the blame entirely on his goalkeeper.

Everton appear increasingly minded to keep Adam Aznou in David Moyes' plans for the 2026/27 season, after an encouraging summer from the young left-back. According to TeamTalk, the current picture points towards the Morocco international remaining on Merseyside rather than heading out on loan.
There is a growing sense that Aznou has used pre-season exactly as he needed to. After a difficult first year following his move from Bayern Munich for around £8million, the 20-year-old has responded with the kind of performances that force internal discussion. The key detail is clear, Everton "have not informed the Moroccan international of any plans to send him out on loan as of yet", and "as things stand, the Toffees intend to retain him as part of David Moyes' squad for 2026/27."
Photo: IMAGO
Aznou's debut campaign brought only one senior appearance, so this summer has carried added significance. By all accounts, he has impressed with "attacking intent and defensive solidity in pre-season", showing the balance required from a modern full-back. Those close to the situation believe Moyes sees him as "a useful option within the current group", which matters at a club trying to build depth and reliability across the back line.
There is also encouragement in the longer-term view. Everton hold "huge belief in his potential", and that belief seems to be shaping the current decision. Rather than rushing him into a temporary move elsewhere, the club look prepared to ******* s whether regular involvement can now come under Moyes directly.

We also break down the volatile oil market, current diesel prices, and the complex Penske lawsuit that's shaking up broker liability. Get the crucial updates supply chain pros need to know.
The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals has reinstated liability claims against two Penske entities in connection with a fatal 2018 jackknife crash in Texas, dealing a significant blow to carriers and brokers who ***** umed that tendering a load down the chain extinguished their legal exposure. The six-page ruling has broad implications for how carriers and brokers structure freight transactions and vet downstream partners.
The load — originating from an automotive seat manufacturer — traveled through at least four parties before the fatal accident. Penske Logistics, the ***** et-based carrier, first received the tender. It passed the load to Penske Transportation Management (PTM), its managed transportation and brokerage arm, which then handed it to Liberty Lane, which in turn brokered it to OK Trans, the carrier whose driver was involved in the crash that killed a motorist.
The Fifth Circuit took two distinct actions. It reinstated PTM as a defendant, citing the U.S. Supreme Court's Charas v. Trans Air precedent commonly referred to in freight as the Montgomery decision, which eliminated the Federal Aviation Administration Authorization Act's safety-exception shield for brokers. The court also reversed a Southern District of Texas summary judgment that had protected Penske Logistics from vicarious liability as the employer of the downstream driver.

US-based investment company McIntyre Partnerships delivered flat performance in H1 2026, returning 0% gross and -1% net compared to the Russell 2000 Value Index's 23% return. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. The second quarter results were a complete reversal of Q1 results, with the portfolio appreciating 23.0% (gross) and 23.3% (net), outperforming the index's 17.3%. The overall market surge contributed to this performance, alongside several positive developments related to the firm's holdings. Since inception, the fund has returned ~16% gross and ~12% net per annum, surpassing the benchmark's return of ~9% per annum. The portfolio is highly concentrated, with QDEL as the largest holding, creating volatility. Despite mixed results, the firm remains confident in the portfolio, particularly with QDEL viewed as a key investment opportunity. Potential for further growth is expected from several large investments with promising catalysts. In addition, you can check the Strategy's top 5 holdings to determine its best picks for 2026.
In its Q2 2026 investor letter, McIntyre Partnerships highlighted Sotera Health Company (NASDAQ:SHC). Sotera Health Company (NASDAQ:SHC) is a US-based company that provides sterilization solutions, lab testing, and advisory services for the healthcare industry. On August 7, 2026, Sotera Health Company (NASDAQ:SHC) closed at $18.86 per share, reflecting a market capitalization of $5.38 billion. Sotera Health Company (NASDAQ:SHC) posted a one-month return of 5.04%, while its shares gained 25.61% over the past 52 weeks.
McIntyre Partnerships stated the following regarding Sotera Health Company (NASDAQ:SHC) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Sotera Health Company (NASDAQ:SHC) saw positive Q1 results, with the key Sterigenics segment continuing its return to HSD organic growth following the COVID destocking in 2023 and 2024. Further, SHC also had positive legal news regarding its Georgia litigation, where the judge threw out 5 lawsuits with reasoning that implies the remaining 450 cases are likely to be rejected as well. While I believe the judge's ruling implies current liability is sub-$50MM, I estimate a worst-case $400k per case settlement, or $180MM, even if appeals reverse the decision. This compares to SHC's 2026 EBITDA of ~$640MM. The company also saw a CEO transition, with its long-time CEO transitioning to Executive Chairman and the hiring of CEO Shader from Viant, a medical device services company where he served as CEO. We are encouraged that former CEO Petras remains on the board and intends to play an active role in ensuring a smooth transition.
Finally, and most importantly, following Q1 earnings, SHC's former private equity owners sold the last of their shares. I believe the PE firms' selling pressure, via predictable quarterly block trades, has been a considerable overhang on SHC's shares over the past year. With this overhang gone, I believe SHC is well positioned to reweight towards peers. I es

MS NOW "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough launched a blistering attack on far-left streamer Hasan Piker and Democrats unwilling to distance themselves from his rhetoric Monday, warning the party risked repeating what he viewed as its costly 2024 mistakes after Piker ally Abdul El-Sayed won Michigan's Democratic Senate nomination.
Scarborough, raising his voice and shouting at times, said Democrats were "too woke to call out the obvious" and questioned why party leaders were reluctant to draw a line over Piker's past comments about rape during Hamas' Oct. 7 terrorist attack, when he remarked that it didn't matter to him if it occurred.
"This is about the Democrats once again, fumbling the football on the two-yard line when they have a chance to make great gains, but being so woke, I don't know if you want to call it woke 1, woke 2, or woke 3, but being too woke to call out the obvious!" Scarborough yelled. "I swear to God. It's really, it's crazy that we're even having this conversation."
The Republican National Committee (RNC) has sought to turn El-Sayed's continued relationship with Piker into a general election liability. RNC national spokesperson Natalie Baldassarre told Fox News Digital Sunday that Democrats' unwillingness to disavow the streamer reflected a broader problem for the party.

Aug 10 (Reuters) - A U.S. appeals court on Monday allowed thousands of lawsuits to move forward against Meta Platforms, Alphabet's Google, ByteDance's TikTok, and other social media companies over claims they designed their products to be addictive to ‌young users.
The San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected the companies' bid to reverse a lower court's ruling forcing them ‌to face more than 3,000 lawsuits over the claims filed in federal court, concluding that the appeal came too early in the litigation.
The defendants, which also include Snap Inc's Snapchat, had argued that Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act of 1996 -- which generally shields online companies from claims over content posted by their users - also bars lawsuits claiming they failed to warn the public about the addictive nature of their platforms.
Most appeals come after a case has concluded with a ruling or a verdict. Meta had argued that Section 230 provided it broad immunity and that it should be able to appeal the lower court's decision immediately. But ‌the 9th Circuit said Section 230 provides a defense to liability, not immunity from lawsuits, so the appeal was premature.

While the net margin, which measures how much profit a company keeps from every dollar of sales, was roughly 21%, it was lower than the prior fiscal year.
As of its December 2025 balance sheet, the debt-to-equity ratio was approximately 0.3x, indicating the company uses very little debt relative to shareholders' equity. Airbnb generated roughly $4.6 billion in free cash flow, which is the cash left over after paying for operations and equipment. Note that stock-based compensation (SBC) represented roughly 34% of operating cash flow, which inflates reported cash generation since SBC is a non-cash expense added back in the cash flow statement.

Liverpool will imminently announce the signing of Ronald Araujo from Barcelona on a one-year loan deal with an option to buy. That's according to Fabrizio Romano, who was among those breaking the news on Friday night.
The Reds will be able to pay €55m to make it all permanent next July, while they'll also cover his wages in full for the duration of the loan.
On the face of it, you can see why Liverpool made this move. They needed a centre-back in his prime years - someone who can bridge the gap between Virgil van Dijk (35), Jeremy Jacquet (21) and Giovanni Leoni (19) but perhaps offer a bit more reliability than Joe Gomez.
On top of that, Araujo can play right-back, too, covering the injured Conor Bradley. So the logic here does make sense.

Some of the defining figures of NFL football are being enshrined into the 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame today. Drew Brees and Larry Fitzgerald, a uniquely accurate passer and one of the most sure-handed receivers in league history, respectively, lead the star-studded list of five inductees.
It's impossible to think about the story of the NFL without Brees and Fitzgerald. Brees led his New Orleans Saints to a Super Bowl XLIV win over Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts, giving hope to a city still recovering from the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina less than five years prior. Fitzgerald, meanwhile, fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII, an unforgettable game in which the Arizona Cardinals legend famously chased James Harrison down the field and nearly made the tackle on his 100-yard pick-six.
Here's what we know about all five inductees as they prepare to be enshrined on ESPN at noon ET.
Brees overcame a serious shoulder injury early in his career to become one of the most decorated quarterbacks in NFL history. The longtime point guard of Sean Payton's rhythm passing scheme, Brees made 12 Pro Bowls with the Saints, led the league in passing yards seven times and passing touchdowns four times. Brees had a chance at another Super Bowl in 2018, but a missed Los Angeles Rams pass interference call in the NFC Championship Game cost him the opportunity.
Fitzgerald powered through inconsistent quarterback play over much of his 17 seasons in Arizona. While he only led the league in catches twice and touchdowns another two times, his longevity and reliability are the staples of his greatness. Fitzgerald is second only to Jerry Rice in both receiving yards (17,492) and receptions (1,432). He also had a legendary performance in his lone Super Bowl appearance, catching seven passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns.

Almost every state requires drivers to carry a minimum amount of car insurance so they can help pay for injuries or property damage caused by an accident they are responsible for. However, meeting your state's minimum requirements doesn't necessarily mean you'll have enough coverage to pay for all related costs or adequately protect your finances. Because insurance requirements vary by state, it's important to know whether the minimum car insurance coverage limits are right for your situation.

Accidents can happen anywhere and at any time. Someone could slip on ice on your front walkway and break several bones. Or perhaps your tires lose traction on a rainy day, causing you to rear-end the vehicle in front of you, totaling the car, and injuring the other driver. Your home or auto insurance can help cover the costs of accidents like these if you're found liable. However, if the damages exceed your policy's liability limits, you could be responsible for paying the remaining costs out of pocket.
"That's where an umbrella policy would come into place," said Kim Bowser, vice president of national product and experience development at Grange Insurance. "Your auto or home insurance would typically cover the loss first. Umbrella kicks in as an extra layer on top of that coverage protection."
Umbrella insurance is a safety net protecting you from financial disaster. It pays to know what an umbrella policy is, how it works, and what it covers.

A rush to beat Labour's death tax has triggered a boom in life insurance sales.
Unused pension savings and death benefits will be subject to inheritance tax from April next year.
The changes, announced by Rachel Reeves, the former chancellor, in her 2024 Budget, have already triggered a rush of people looking for ways to cover the steep tax bills their pensions could now leave behind.
Barry O'Dwyer, the chief executive of Royal London, Britain's biggest life and pensions mutual, said more customers were looking to take out life insurance specifically to offset the liability.
"It doesn't take that much, if you're a small-business owner and you have a pension pot built up, to be tipped over the thresholds," Mr O'Dwyer said.
