Most Federal Open Market Committee members see the need for at least one more 25 basis point rate hike this year, as 12 out of 18 members that submitted projections pegged their view of appropriate monetary policy in 2026 at an average of 4.125%.
That rate implies one more 25 basis point hike to come by year-end.
Read more: The Fed's dot plot explained
Four committee members see 50 more basis points' worth of rate hikes in 2026 as appropriate, while only two members see no more hikes this year — suggesting that the new effective target rate of 3.75% to 4% is adequate.
The Summary of Economic Projections, also known as the "dot plot," does not label projections with the names of the Federal Reserve members who made them.

Nike stock has fallen 40% year to date to $37, raising the question of whether it's dead money or set for a category-driven bounce.
On Holding is down 41% and Lululemon down 53% year to date, signaling a category-wide selloff rather than a Nike-specific execution failure.
With SPY up 12% and XLY down just 5%, athletic apparel's 40-53% collapse stands out as a sector being systematically repriced.

Shares of Nike (NYSE:NKE) are up 0.96% in Friday afternoon and trading at $36.97, a small bid that barely dents a brutal year. Nike stock is down 40% year to date (YTD), and today's uptick doesn't answer the bigger question hanging over the name.

PepsiCo's 54 consecutive dividend increases and Colgate-Palmolive's 61.5% gross margin show how essential, habitual products keep compounding through every market cycle.
3M's specified industrial materials lock customers in through full qualification requirements, delivering 5.4% organic growth and 24.9% operating margins in Q2 2026.
Just released. Our **** ysts combed the entire stock market and named the ten best stocks to buy right now. The report is free. Enter your email and see if any of your stocks made the cut.
Boring works. Over a market cycle, essential-service businesses tend to keep selling toothpaste, chips, and industrial adhesives regardless of what the S&P 500 is doing on any given afternoon. Consider PepsiCo's own dividend record: management has committed to a 4% increase in the annualized dividend per share beginning with the June 2026 payment, which will represent the 54th consecutive annual increase. A streak that long spans every officially declared bear market since the mid-1970s. The three names below are held together by that same idea: durable demand, unglamorous products, and customers who do not easily leave.
PepsiCo (NASDAQ:PEP) sells convenient foods and beverages: Lay's, Doritos, Cheetos, Quaker, Tostitos, Pepsi, Gatorade, Mountain Dew, Aquafina, and Tropicana. These are low-ticket, habitual purchases. When households tightened budgets in 2008-2009 and again in 2020, they did not stop buying salty snacks or sports drinks; they traded down within the aisle, and PepsiCo's multi-tier portfolio caught them on the way. On the most recent call, CEO Ramon Laguarta described the international business plainly: "The truth is that all those markets have remained very resilient."

In a recent CNBC interview, Billionaire Leon Cooperman said that he has a negative view of the market amid a rising fiscal deficit and debt. The billionaire quoted Warren Buffett, who once said that the market sometimes reaches a point where investors don't respond to events like interest rates and believe it would be a mistake to get out of stocks.
"Like Pavlov's dogs, these investors learned that when the bell rings—in this case, the one that rings at the New York Stock Exchange at 9:30 a.m.—they get fed," Cooperman said, quoting Buffett. "Through this rally, they become reinforced and convinced that there is a God, and He wants them to get rich."
Omega Advisors recently posted its second-quarter filings, and it shows the fund was buying two new stocks. Omega picked up 880,000 shares of Amrize AG (NYSE: AMRZ), a building materials company, during the second quarter. The firm also bought 11.38 million shares of GPGI (NYSE: GPGI), a diversified industrial company.
Both positions were new additions to Omega's portfolio in the second quarter. In this article, we will ****** yze AMRZ in detail.
Amrize makes cement, aggregates, and roofing materials for construction projects across North America. Bulls are enthusiastic about the Building Materials business. Cement volume grew 5% and aggregates volume grew 6.5% in the second quarter, and aggregates pricing rose 4% on a freight-adjusted basis. CEO Jan Jenisch pointed to rising demand from data centers, energy projects, and infrastructure work, and management raised full-year revenue guidance.

Anyone who has carried a balance knows the small relief of moving it. The amount does not shrink. The due date moves, the pressure lifts, and it becomes easy to read that quiet as progress.
It usually is not. The arithmetic has only been rescheduled, and rescheduling carries its own price.

NEW YORK, Aug 19 (Reuters) - A U.S. appeals court on Wednesday revived an investor lawsuit over the 2023 collapse of Signature Bank, saying the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp (FDIC) ‌seizure of the lender did not take away shareholders' right to sue.
In a 3-0 vote, ‌the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan rejected the FDIC's argument that a 1989 law adopted in the wake of that decade's savings-and-loan crisis gave the regulator sole power to pursue securities fraud claims after becoming the receiver of a failed bank.
The decision is a victory for shareholders led by the Swedish pension fund Sjunde AP-Fonden, which accused seven former Signature executives and directors and Signature's former auditor, KPMG, of misrepresenting ‌the bank's liquidity risks and risk management, inflating its share price. Their proposed class action sought compensation for their losses.
The FDIC declined to comment. Lawyers for the shareholders did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Regulators closed Signature on March 12, 2023, after worried customers withdrew several billion dollars, or about 20% of its deposits following the collapse of the larger Silicon Valley Bank two days earlier.

Uber (UBER) is one of those stocks that honestly generates strong opinions from everyone. From drivers, riders, regulators, and investors, because most of us have interacted with its variety of services at some point.
But for shareholders, the point is not whether Uber is popular or controversial. The real point is whether the business is compounding.
Jim Cramer clearly revealed his position on Monday, Aug. 17, in the "Mad Money" Lightning Round.
"I do say Uber is one great long-term stock. I am not backing away from that. The stock is turning here at 22 times earnings," Jim Cramer said.
I am a buyer of Uber, not a holder, not a seller.

For nearly two decades, September has usually meant one thing for Apple investors: a new iPhone cycle.
That pattern may be about to change.
Apple (AAPL) is reportedly planning to launch the iPhone 18 Pro series this fall and delay the standard iPhone 18 to the first quarter of 2027, according to supplier commentary reported by Economic Daily News and The Verge. The more affordable iPhone 18e and a new iPhone Air are also expected to launch around early 2027.
That would be a big change for a product franchise that had a record $54.25 billion of revenue in Apple's latest quarter, up 21.7% from a year earlier. Total company revenue was up 16% to $109.4 billion.
That reason appears to be more than just product marketing.

Burger King had another good quarter… which is something we couldn't have imagined typing this time last year.
U.S. comps rose 8.5% in the quarter ended June 30, against the 3.5% ***** ysts penciled in and the 1.5% it managed a year ago. McDonald's did 0.8%, and the Golden Arches felt so tarnished by that it installed a new U.S. president. That's now 2 straight quarters the Whopper has flexed on the Big Mac.
The King's engine remains value with the "2 for $5" and "3 for $7" deals aimed at Americans who now treat eating out as a luxury good. Restaurant Brands has also poured years and serious money into remodels and marketing, which apparently works if you keep at it long enough.

Five months of mostly closed Strait of Hormuz have not sent oil prices spiking to $150 or $200 per barrel, as many ******* ysts had warned in March.
Even as more than 10% of global crude oil supply suddenly disappeared from the market, oil didn't hit record high levels. Crude oil prices haven't even stayed permanently above $100 per barrel.
Three key drivers have kept oil prices from surging to never-before-seen highs. First, governments started tapping strategic reserves, including as part of the IEA-coordinated 400-million-barrel stocks release, to offset the 1 billion barrels of crude that never made it out of the Gulf in the first three months of the conflict. Next, Asia slashed consumption with fuel-saving measures and reduced refinery throughput.
Crash in China's Crude Imports Kept Prices Capped
Arguably, the biggest cushion the market has had was China's crude oil import behavior. The world's largest crude oil importer had amassed an estimated up to 1.4 billion barrels of crude in commercial and strategic stockpiles before the Iran war. The huge cushion allowed it to slash imports when the Strait of Hormuz closed, and prices spiked.

Over the years, legal cannabis companies expanded rapidly across the U.S. as more states opened their markets to medical and recreational marijuana.
That growth created sprawling businesses that extend far beyond dispensary storefronts.
Behind many cannabis retailers are cultivation centers where marijuana plants are grown and harvested.
Additionally, there are facilities that process flower into products ranging from pre-rolls and vapes to edibles and other cannabis products.
Now, one major cannabis operator is significantly reducing that infrastructure in one of its biggest markets.

Let's address the elephant in the room: Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) is down 48% from October's 52-week highs as of July 20.

The CNBC/NRF Retail Monitor, published by the National Retail Federation (NRF), shows that sales at clothing and accessories outlets rose by 0.63% between May and June, seasonally adjusted, and by 13.65% compared to June 2025, unadjusted.
This growth rate was the second-highest among the nine sectors tracked in the monthly retail sales index, followed by digital products.
"The summer shopping season got off to a strong start in June. Consumers took advantage of summer sales events, and many began their back-to-school shopping early," said NRF president and CEO Matthew Shay.
"The capacity for retail spending has been supported by the sector's focus on keeping prices accessible and by a stable labour market. Year-over-year improvements are especially notable, given the comparatively weak results seen in June 2025."
Overall retail sales, excluding motor vehicle dealers and gas stations, increased 0.33% on a seasonally adjusted monthly basis and 9.41% on an unadjusted annual basis in June.

NEW YORK, July 10 (Reuters) - Activist investors in the U.S. must disclose the identities of their clients in regulatory filings, the Securities and Exchange Commission said in a move that may rattle hedge funds ‌by requesting information they have long fought to keep secret.
The updated interpretations on 13D filings and proxy statements, ‌issued by the main U.S. securities regulator on Thursday, had not been expected and have not been widely reported, according to lawyers who work on investor activism, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the matter openly.
The SEC's new guidance on its Corporate Finance Interpretations clarifies how the agency views its rules on critical filings after a busy six months of activist campaigns.
The regulator did not respond to a request for comment on the changes or say what prompted it to issue the interpretation now.
