Walker started his fifth season in the NFL, his first with the Chiefs. He played his first four years with the Seattle Seahawks, winning a Super Bowl in 2025 as he earned the game's MVP award.
The star rusher went on to surprise many by leaving Seattle to sign a three-year, $45 million contract with Kansas City. The team had a weakness in the running back room, something that Walker addressed with ease.

Kansas City's prize offseason acquisition, Super Bowl LX MVP Kenneth Walker, got loose around the right side after Broncos cornerback Riley Moss missed the tackle. Safety Brandon Jones was the only defender who had a chance to stop Walker after that and appeared to have the angle.
He didn't.
Walker has 16 carries for 149 yards and a touchdown in his Chiefs' debut, the second-most yards of his career. He had 23 carries for 167 yards and two touchdowns in his sixth career game, which was against the Chargers.
Walker is 4-for-4 on third-and-1 or fourth-and-1 tonight.

Patrick Mahomes was back in the lineup for Week 1. And he showed in the Kansas City Chiefs' first drive that he's all the way back.
Any concern about Mahomes' mobility coming off a torn ACL was quelled right away. After Bo Nix threw an interception to start the Denver Broncos' night, the Chiefs went on a long drive that was mostly Kenneth Walker III rushes. But when Mahomes needed to make a play with his legs he did so. Twice.
Mahomes ran for a touchdown but it was called back due to holding. It was still good to see Mahomes scrambling and getting into the end zone. Then on the next play, he did it again from further out.
Mahomes scrambled and ran up the middle for a 15-yard score. There had to be some worry on the sideline as he took off, but Mahomes made it to give the Chiefs a 7-0 lead. Mahomes didn't slide to be safe, instead lunging into the end zone for the score. There was a clear hold by Travis Kelce on the play but no flag was thrown, and Mahomes' score stood up on his second try.
There was concern that Mahomes would miss some or most of the 2026 season when he tore his ACL last December. But his recovery was smooth and there wasn't a question by mid-summer that he'd be playing Week 1. There was some question over what his mobility would look like though.

Former Indiana State Sycamore Johnathan Edwards was waived Monday by the Indianapolis Colts.
The move followed the Colts' 41-23 loss at home to Baltimore in Sunday's season opener. Edwards didn't play against the Ravens, and was among six Colts players declared inactive for Week 1. Indianapolis promoted Kenneth Harris from the practice squad prior to the game, with Harris then occupying Edwards' special teams roles.
The 6-foot-1, 201-pound Edwards was originally signed by the Colts as an undrafted free agent May 9, 2025.
As a rookie, Edwards played in 14 games (with five starts) and registered 24 tackles (18 solo), three passes defensed and two special teams stops.
Collegiately, Edwards appeared in 45 career games at Tulane (2024) and Indiana State (2021-23) and recorded 124 tackles (86 solo), 1.5 tackles for loss, 22 passes defensed and one forced fumble.

Mahomes faced this elite defense once last season, and Andy Reid made it pretty clear as to how he wanted to attack: 45 pass attempts and 14 rushes (one of which came from Mahomes).
They didn't bring in Kenneth Walker III to be a one-dimensional offense, and even if the long-term goal is to put their fate in the hands of their future Hall of Fame QB, it's fair to ******* ume we don't see that in September.

Throughout the offseason, Chiefs players and coaches have spoken with a lot of excitement about running back Kenneth Walker and what he can bring to the offense.
That trend continued on Thursday with quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who noted the versatility Walker has displayed in practice through training camp.
"You've got to use that guy," Mahomes said of Walker in his Thursday press conference. "I mean, he's a talented football player. He runs tough. He has speed. He can break a touchdown at any moment. He can catch the ball. He does kind of it all.
"And so, when you have those guys on your team, you find ways to get them the football. If that's either just handing the ball off to them or throwing it to them, you've got to and so we got him for a reason. He came in with the right mindset and mentality, and he's really attacked this offseason. And so, I think he's as excited as anybody to get out there in Arrowhead and have Chiefs Kingdom behind him, and so him as well as Emmett [Johnson] and Brashard [Smith], I mean, we've got a good running back room, and we'll utilize those guys within this offense."
The first chance we'll all have to see Walker with the Chiefs will be on Monday night when the club takes on the Broncos.

In his interview with Easton Jr., Green joined the unveiling of the Dr Pepper "Fan Wall of Fame" painting on the side of the Alumni Hall building at his alma mater, Indiana University, curated by Indianapolis artist Nate Baranowski. He discussed the offseason addition of running back Kenneth Walker III to the offense.
"The first Dr Pepper Fan Wall of Fame will be unveiled," said Green. "It celebrates fans across college football, especially here in Bloomington, and marks last year's national championship and the start of this year's season."
Green orchestrated some explosive offenses during his six seasons in Kansas City. He weighed in on Walker's addition and how it will contribute to this year's offense.
"Well, I think there are just different ways to attack it, and I think the three Super Bowl championships and the five Super Bowl appearances show that you can do it without a 1,000-yard rusher," said Green, "and how offenses have spread out over the last decade. I see that trend changing a little bit more. I say that because if you look at last year with the Seattle Seahawks that won the Super Bowl, Denver (Broncos), New England (Patriots), the (Los Angeles) Chargers, teams that like to get underneath center and do more of the running game, play multiple tight end packages."

Former Nebraska football and current Kansas City Chiefs running back Emmett Johnson has impressed over the course of training camp and preseason. Chiefs coach Andy Reid identified one specific area that the rookie has improved on over the course of the last couple of weeks.
Johnson had a productive preseason. He recorded 26 carries for 123 rushing yards and one touchdown. He officially secured the number two running back spot on the team's depth chart behind Kenneth Walker, and he is now in a position to take on a bigger role.
There was one specific thing that Johnson got better at over the course of the preseason, as Reid told the media.
"Pass protection. We knew he could run the ball, but the thing we had to see was the pass protection. For him to be that number two back, you gotta be able to do that."
Pass protection is an essential tool running backs need in modern college football. Johnson did it at a high level in Lincoln, and now it seems like he is translating those skills to the NFL.

That combination pushed adjusted EBITDA margin to 2.6% for the quarter, and management raised full-year sales guidance to 10% to 12% growth, comparable sales guidance to 9% to 11%, and adjusted EBITDA guidance to $38 million to $42 million.
The balance sheet backs up the story. Citi Trends ended the quarter with $55.9 million in cash, no debt, and no draw on its $75 million credit facility, even as merchandise inventory grew a controlled 7.5% against double-digit comparable sales growth. The company is also leaning on a customer base broader than the discount label suggests: shoppers with household incomes between $75,000 and $150,000 make up 25% of customers but generate more than 40% of revenue. Management is funding growth accordingly, shifting capital toward its remodel program, now expected to cover 60 to 65 stores this year, up from 50, while building newer levers like the Insiders Club loyalty platform launched July 15 and AI tools for allocation and site selection. CEO Kenneth Seipel described the program as one that "turns traffic into loyalty, loyalty into frequency, and frequency into EBITDA."
Not everything in the print was clean. CFO Heather Plutino noted that rising fuel surcharges are pushing freight costs higher and said the pressure should continue for the rest of the year, a headwind that partially offset the gross margin gains. New store openings were also trimmed, with fiscal 2026 guidance cut to around 20 locations from a prior target of 25 due to timing, even as capital shifted toward remodels instead of new boxes.

Gennaro Gattuso's squad has been boosted by the returns of Alessio Romagnoli, Gustav Isaksen, and Nuno Tavares, while Danilo Cataldi, Samuel Gigot, Patric, and new signing Josip Sutalo are unavailable.

Michael Wright, an actor known for his roles in the films The Five Heartbeats and Sugar Hill, has died at age 70.
Wright died on Wednesday, August 19, after suffering heart failure and complications of Marchiafava-Bignami disease, his family told TMZ.
Marchiafava-Bignami disease, or MBD, is a rare condition involving the erosion of the corpus callosum, the area that facilitates communication between the brain's two hemispheres, according to Verywell Health. Symptoms include paranoia, psychosis, seizures, dementia, difficulty speaking, and difficulty moving limbs, the site adds.
Born in New York City on April 30, 1956, Wright played Eddie, the troubled lead singer of a fictional R&B group, in the 1991 musical drama The Five Heartbeats, written by Robert Townsend and Keenen Ivory Wayans and directed by Townsend. Entertainment Weekly critic Owen Gleiberman said Wright gave a "a stunning performance" in the film and "makes [Eddie] sleek, with undercurrents of hostility and danger."
Three years later, Wright starred opposite Wesley Snipes in the crime drama Sugar Hill, written by Barry Michael Cooper and directed by Leon Ichaso. Wright and Snipes played Raynathan and Roemello Skuggs, respectively, two brothers working in the drug trade for the mob boss who ruined their family. Los Angeles Times reviewer Kenneth Turan said the film "at various moments … gets fine work from Michael Wright."

Fresh off winning Super Bowl MVP honors last season, Kenneth Walker III is embarking on the next stage of his career after signing a three-year, $45 million contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. And from what we've learned during the preseason so far, it seems he hasn't missed a step in making the transition to his new team.
Of course, we didn't see Walker in action during the Chiefs' preseason opener, as he was kept on the sidelines. But the intel coming out of preseason activities for the franchise indicates that he is looking every bit the elite running back the Chiefs hoped he would be when signing him.
According to Jesse Newell, who covers the Chiefs for The Athletic, Walker has been making quite the impact during training camp. His reporting indicates that Walker is getting the ball "all the time," is being used as the main running back in red-zone situations, and is the "primary target" in the franchise's screen game.
Walker had what was arguably the best season of his career last year since his debut in the league in 2022, rushing for 1,027 yards and five touchdowns, tying his career-high of 4.6 yards per carry while starting all 17 regular-season games for the Seahawks. He also tallied 282 receiving yards while averaging 9.1 yards per reception.
Walker also had a breakout performance in Super Bowl LX, tallying a season-high 135 rushing yards while adding 26 receiving yards, helping the Seahawks capture the top prize in the NFL. It was the most rushing yards in a Super Bowl since Super Bowl ******* II, which was also the last time a running back was named Super Bowl MVP before Walker earned the award.

The Seahawks made a big change at running back this offseason and quarterback Sam Darnold likes how things are shaping up in the backfield.
Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker left for Kansas City in free agency and the Seahawks replaced him with first-round pick Jadarian Price. Price's preseason has been hampered by a leg injury, but he was back in action this week and took part in Friday's joint practice with the ****** ans.
The ability Price showed as a runner and receiver in that workout left Darnold singing his praises.
"He's a special player," Darnold said, via the team's website. "He's a really special player. He brings a different facet to the offense that only a guy like him can bring. Whether it's catching passes out of the backfield, catching screens, running in between the tackles, outside of the tackles, he can really do it all. And I know he's just going to continue to get better and learn."
Veteran Zach Charbonnet is still recovering from a torn ACL and the Seahawks don't have any other established backs on the roster, so Price figures to be playing a major role right out of the gate in Seattle. Darnold's review makes that sound like a positive situation for the defending champs.
