The Seattle Seahawks are 1-0, so it's time to start scouting their next opponent.
The Arizona Cardinals shocked the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1 with a 26-14 win in which Mike LaFleur became the franchise's first non-interim head coach to win their first game in charge. The matchup was projected as one of the opening week's most lopsided in favor of Jim Harbaugh and Los Angeles, who were coming off an 11-6 record in 2025. Los Angeles made the playoffs and lost to the eventual AFC champion New England Patriots in the Wild Card round, albeit without either of their starting offensive tackles—Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt—who were both expected to boost the offense upon their return this season. Arizona's defense had other ideas, and became one of the biggest surprises of any unit across Week 1's Sunday slate, while their offense simply looked more talented and outplayed LA with complementary football. That's what the Seahawks will be looking for in Week 2.
The Cardinals defense played with an energy that stifled Justin Herbert and new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel, who only held the ball for 51 plays and 22:29. Arizona ran 21 more plays and had the ball for 15:02 more of the game (more than an entire quarter?!) When watching this game, the attitude from Arizona's defense seemed to disregard the stature of its opponent. LaFleur retained defensive coordinator Nick Rallis, who Phoenix-based sports radio host John Gambadoro credits for helping set the temperature.
It's easy to see Rallis' results. The intensity of the defense that showed up on tape is just as evident on paper. His Cardinals defense ranks second to last in blitz rate so far this season, yet they held McDaniel and Herbert to a measly 2-for-8 on third downs and 0-for-3 on fourth downs. Their front seven was far more formidable than the Chargers on the day, producing 17 pressures on 55 snaps while LA could only muster 12 on 75 opportunities. On the flipside, the Cardinals' offensive line has been projected as their downfall this season. The Seahawks have a clear opportunity to establish their presence as a physically dominant team if they kill the Cardinals momentum. This will be the game for elite run blockers like AJ Barner and run stoppers like Uchenna Nwosu to put the new age film community on watch.
Offensive talent is far from the problem in Arizona. Trey McBride is the best tight end in football. They've got two running backs in Jeremiyah Love and Tyler Allgeier who can both be a problem for any team. Marvin Harrison Jr. was a matchup nightmare against the Seahawks last season. In Week 3, he had one of the best battles against Devon Witherspoon and Riq Woolen of any wide receiver all year. His weekend travel itinerary, however, hardly seemed the stuff of dreams.

Following a scant amount of sleep, there was a late-morning production meeting before calling Saturday night's matchup between No. 1 Ohio State and No. 4 Texas on ABC, arguably the top non-conference matchup in college football this season.

Jose Alvarado's appearance last night probably solidified what Don Mattingly is thinking in the playoffs. He and Alex McFarlane are going to be the bridges to Jhoan Duran. Jonathan Bowlan looks like he is struggling to handle to pressure as it continues to mount with each appearance that gets closer to September, so maybe those are the two that get leaned on.

MADISON, Ill. - Organizers are expecting a fifth straight sell-out crowd at World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Ill., ahead of Sunday's "Enjoy Illinois 300." The race is part of the NASCAR Cup Series.
The event forms part of the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs, bringing motorsport fans to the venue in the St. Louis area. In recent years, the Madison track has hosted several major NASCAR events featuring close photo-finishes.
Ahead of the race, professional driver Ross Chastain made a promotional appearance at Ballpark Village. Chastain, a champion racer participating in Sunday's event, served as a celebrity bartender pouring Busch Light for fans.

Garrett Mitchell hit the Brewers' first grand slam of the season, one of four homers for Milwaukee in a 20-0 rout of the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night that secured a playoff berth that had long been inevitable.
Manager Pat Murphy celebrated with a toast to his players and clubhouse staff. Afterward, the locker room was subdued, because these Brewers (92-56) hope to accomplish much more.

COLONIE - The Christian Brothers Academy football team waited a long time to get back on the field against Saratoga Springs. Friday night, the Brothers held a seven-point lead in the fourth quarter when CBA coach Bobby Burns decided it was best to play keep away.
The Blue Streaks had just scored a touchdown on a fourth-down play and CBA was determined to run off the final 7:42 off the clock. That meant going for it on a fourth-and-5 play from the CBA 36-yard line. The Brothers managed to pick up the first down as senior quarterback Matt Kowalski connected with junior receiver Jack Hulett for five yards. CBA proceeded to run off the remaining time to register a 21-14 Class AA victory.
"I had my coaches yelling in my ear the whole night that we could run that," Burns said regarding the fourth-down gamble. "I was a little concerned about (Saratoga Springs junior defensive end Cam Toomey) on the edge with him getting a hand on it and swatting it down. If we don't get that, it changes a lot of the game."
"It definitely means a lot that the coaches have trust in us," Hulett said. "We work hard and they trust we will get the job done."
CBA entered the Section 2 Class AA playoffs in 2025 as the No. 1 seed with the program seeking a fifth consecutive sectional championship. Saratoga Springs emerged with a 14-13 victory in a driving rainstorm at Colonie High School. Minnesota looks to brush off a very up-and-down 2025 season as they look to get back into the playoffs. It starts in week one, and here are three keys for the offense in Week 1.

The call was from Justine Siegal, commissioner of the Women's Pro Baseball League (WPBL). The Los Angeles Queens needed another player after one of their outfielders left to play for Curaçao's national team and the team wanted to sign Baird as a replacement for the remainder of the season.

The 28-year-old has been terrific at home (.957 OPS) and against right-handers (.835 OPS) this season, which makes him a potential league-winner next week when the Rockies play seven games at their hitter-friendly home park, including five versus right-handed starters. Those who cannot add Moniak can consider his teammate, Cole Carrigg (15%).

He is batting .320 since the beginning of August, and during September he has already accumulated four homers and five steals. Like many Athletics hitters, Bolte has fared best at his offense-inducing home park, which is where he will play this weekend. It helps that the series will come against the Mariners, who surprising rank 28th in baseball with a 5.39 ERA since the All-Star break.
