The at-bats share that don't-go-to-concessions-yet vibe. Opposing pitchers are handling Devers as carefully as they can - All-Star closer Mason Miller walked him in the ninth inning Friday - and there's a general buzz when Devers is up with men on base. Saturday, he lasered a low 1-1 sweeper from Michael King out in the first, a two-run shot in the Giants' 7-6 loss to the Padres.
San Francisco again demonstrated some mettle with a late push after Devers' grand slam the previous night cut the deficit to two and the Giants mounted a two-out rally against Miller that came up just short. Saturday, power was the key: rookie catcher Drew Cavanaugh went deep to right in the eighth, the first of his career, 50 games in. Two batters later, Drew Gilbert crushed a two-run shot to cut the deficit to one before lefty Adrian Morejon entered and struck out Devers and Bryce Eldridge.
Earlier in the day, Shay Whitcomb also went deep for San Francisco, which recorded all its runs via homers.
With 13 games remaining, Devers has 37 homers, one shy of his career high. He has a realistic shot at 40, something no Giants hitter has done since Bonds belted 45 in 2004. Devers has 98 RBIs, too, so 100 is well within reach. The last San Francisco player with 100 RBIs was Buster Posey, the man who traded for Devers last year; Posey recorded 103 RBIs in 2012.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Yordan Alvarez was out of the Houston Astros' lineup for a second straight game due to a sore right ankle Saturday.
Alvarez turned his ankle running the bases Thursday in Philadelphia and was not used off the bench in a close game Friday against Tampa Bay. Manager Joe Espada said that he was hopeful Alvarez could return to the lineup for Sunday's finale against the Rays.
"He came out and moved around, hit in the cages, but still sore," Espada said before Saturday's game. "More when he swings the bat and he's got to turn that right ankle once he's going to spin. So it's still not there."
This marks the first time Alvarez has been out of Houston's lineup in back-to-back games this season. He started 145 of the team's first 147 games prior to Friday, with 123 starts at DH and 22 in left field.
Alvarez entered Saturday leading the majors with a 1.017 OPS. A Triple Crown candidate, he led qualified American League hitters with a .310 average and ranked second in home runs (38), after Junior Caminero (40) of the Rays, and second in RBIs (96), behind Pete Alonso (97) of the Orioles.

Former Tennessee baseball star Andrew Fischer made history on Sept. 10, crushing his 47th home run of the season to break Ryan Howard's record for the most by a minor leaguer this century.
Fischer passed Howard, who hit 46 homers in 2004, with a solo shot to right field for the Biloxi Shuckers, the Milwaukee Brewers' Double-A affiliate. Fischer is the Brewers' No. 5 prospect and is hitting .272 with 113 RBIs between High-A and Double-A in 2026.
Fischer, a corner infielder, has hit the fifth-most home runs in a minor league season dating back to 1963, when the modern era began. He is eight home runs behind the all-time record of 55 home runs in a single season, set by Bill McNulty in 1974 with Triple-A Sacramento. That season, Sacramento played at Hughes Stadium at Sacramento City College, which had a left-field wall only 233 feet away from home plate.
The most recent player to hit 50 home runs in a minor league season was Ron Kittle in 1982 with Triple-A Edmonton. Biloxi only has three regular season games left for Fischer to reach that mark.
Fischer has been on a tear since being called up to Double-A. His latest home run was his 27th in 69 games with the Shuckers — a 54-homer pace for a full 138-game Double-A season. He finished with the seventh-most homers in High-A (20) despite not having played there since June 13.

In his first game back to the majors, Volpe went 3-for-5 with five RBIs. His grand slam in the seventh inning further buried the Rockies, as it stretched New York's lead to eight runs, 10-2. The Yankees ultimately won the game to the tune of a 10-3 score.

Kristian Campbell's bid to return to the Boston Red Sox took an unfortunate turn with little time remaining in the minor league season. The Worcester Red Sox placed Campbell on the seven-day injured list Thursday because of a left foot contusion, according to MassLive's Chris Cotillo. Infielder Max Ferguson was promoted from Double-A Portland to fill the open roster spot.
Campbell reportedly had been dealing with a sore toe before leaving Tuesday's game against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in the sixth inning. The timing makes the injury particularly frustrating. Worcester has only 10 games remaining before its season concludes Sept. 20, leaving Campbell with a limited window to return.
It also could eliminate whatever chance remained of Campbell joining Boston for its postseason push.
The 24-year-old has spent the entire 2026 campaign in Triple-A after struggling during his first major league opportunity. He batted .223 with a .664 OPS, six home runs and 21 RBIs across 67 games for the Red Sox in 2025. Campbell, once ranked as MLB Pipeline's No. 7 overall prospect, produced an encouraging opening month and earned American League Rookie of the Month honors after batting .301 with four home runs. His production dropped considerably afterward, however, and Boston optioned him to Worcester in June 2025.

The Boston Red Sox made a late-season roster move Sunday, calling up utility player Nate Eaton rather than top prospect Kristian Campbell.
Interim manager Chad Tracy explained the decision, noting that Eaton is simply the better option in the outfield right now. Eaton has appeared in 14 games with Boston this season, posting a .125 batting average with one home run, five RBIs and two stolen bases across 32 at-bats.

Toronto (72-71) won for the seventh time in eight games and moved over .500 for the first time since the Blue Jays were 4-3 on April 3. The defending AL champions, who were 10 games under .500 on July 28, are tied with the Guardians for the league's third wild card.
Okamoto went 4 for 5 with a double and broke a 3-all tie in the seventh with an RBI single. In the third inning, Okamoto hit an RBI double that hit third base over a diving Josh Rojas and rolled into the left-field corner.

Rapid electrification, domestic manufacturing, and the exponential growth of artificial intelligence are reshaping electricity demand. A recent report from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, projects that data centers alone could account for between 9.5% and 15.3% of total U.S. electricity consumption by 2030. More broadly, U.S. electricity demand is projected to grow by approximately 15% to 20% by 2035—roughly 80–110 GW of firm capacity—underscoring the scale of new generation that will be needed. Against this backdrop, executives across the utility, independent power producer, industrial, and technology sectors are making investment decisions that will shape the grid for decades.Safety is foundational to any nuclear project and is subject to rigorous review by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). But the commercial and execution risks utilities must weigh extend well beyond safety: reactor design, constructability, supply chain readiness, licensing progress, workforce depth, operability, performance, and reliability.Advanced reactors are often discussed as a single technology class, yet the commercial and execution risks ******* ociated with individual designs differ substantially. As these technologies move toward commercial deployment, evaluating them requires a more comprehensive ******* sment of their technology, deployability, and commercial merits—and, importantly, the extent to which each design reduces or eliminates risk across multiple dimensions over the full project lifecycle. The good thing about this week's series in the land of the Crawford Boxes and the choo-choo is that both Sean Burke and Davis Martin pitched extremely well, a big turnaround from their recent starts and a good sign for the stretch run. The bad thing — well, besides nearly the entire offense — is that Luis Castillo once again demonstrated that while Chris Getz may have had a very nice offseason, he had a miserable trade deadline.
Castillo started out looking good, striking out Jeremy Peña and Yordan Alvarez. He then walked Isaac Paredes on 10 pitches and threw José Altuve a fastball that would have been a strike on Aaron Judge but was nose-high on Altuve. Altuve still sent it into the Crawford Boxes to make it 2-0 Astros.
The lead didn't last long. Braden Montgomery singled off Hunter Brown to lead off the second, and Colson Montgomery followed with a routine ground ball to second. Peña blew the relay, though, and Chase Meidroth followed with an unplayable 50-mph dribbler. Jake Rogers and Sam Antonacci then delivered actual singles to tie the score.
There being no other Sox offensive highlights, what the heck, let's show you the RBIs. First, Jake's:

Golf legend Tiger Woods has pleaded guilty to reckless driving following his March rollover crash and received a five-year driving suspension. He was also fined between $1,000 and $1,500.
According to Yahoo News, Woods initially pleaded not guilty to the charge of driving under the influence. The incident made headlines, given Woods' history of vehicle-related accidents. He was arrested immediately after the rollover crash in Jupiter Island, the Florida town where the golfer lives.
Motorbiscuit reported in March that Woods faced multiple non-felony charges, including driving under the influence, property damage, and refusing to submit to a lawful test. The incident occurred after 2:00 p.m. when Woods was traveling at a "high speed" in a designated 30-mph zone while attempting to overtake a truck hauling a pressure-washing trailer.
The truck driver reportedly saw Woods' Land Rover closing in quickly and tried to move toward the edge of the road to give the SUV more room. However, the maneuver was not enough to prevent a collision, with Woods' vehicle striking the trailer before rolling onto its driver's side and sliding along the pavement for a considerable distance.

CHICAGO (AP) — Jackson Chourio homered and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Chicago Cubs 9-5 on Wednesday night, overcoming a shaky performance by Jacob Misiorowski.
William Contreras hit a tiebreaking RBI single as Milwaukee won for the sixth time in eight games, improving to a major league-best 87-53. Chourio had four of the Brewers' 14 hits and scored twice.
Misiorowski allowed five runs and five hits in four innings. The front-runner for the NL Cy Young Award surrendered three earned runs or fewer in his first 25 starts this year.
Chicago (78-62) dropped nine games behind Milwaukee in the NL Central. It also remained one game back of Philadelphia for the top NL wild card.
Alex Bregman homered and drove in four runs for the Cubs, who have lost three of four. Bregman is batting .331 (48 for 145) with 14 homers and 37 RBIs in his last 35 games.

The Jay Kelly actress wore a Prada dress that was classic Prada in so many ways. First, the colour – Miuccia Prada sure does loves a pink red carpet dress – and then there is the label's go-to double-satin fabric.
It is usually by this third paragraph that I am complaining about something related to a Prada satin dress, but there are no creases or awkward dart details here. Then I got to the circular skirt. Most of the hem falls in a beautifully smooth line, which makes that irregular section all the more noticeable.
This was well on its way to being a perfect 10 for Prada. I was even going to give the black Prada shoes a pass because I was so enamoured with her pink-stone statement necklace.

While the 2026 season for the Cincinnati Reds has been a bit of a mess, there has been one major positive takeaway: rookie slugger Sal Stewart.
After an impressive debut in 2025, he's turned his game up a notch in 2026 and now, as September begins, looks to be the clear favorite in the NL Rookie of the Year race.
MLB.com's Jason Foster revealed this, with 24 out of 40 MLB experts voting him as the NL ROY favorite. But Foster also revealed that MLB history is on his side, as he might have already done enough to win this award.
"When a rookie pops 30+ homers and leads the Majors with a 105 RBIs at the end of August, it's hard to argue against him as the ROY frontrunner," Foster writes. "In fact, every rookie to compile a 30-homer, 100-RBI season since the award began in 1947 has taken home the trophy."

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Brandon Nimmo set season highs with four hits and five RBIs, Corey Seager scored three times and the Texas Rangers beat the Athletics 8-5 on Tuesday night.
Texas pulled within one game of Houston atop the AL West. The first-place Astros lost 5-1 to the Chicago White Sox in a matchup of division leaders.
Seager doubled twice and scored on Nimmo's first three RBI hits, including a bouncing two-run single in the fifth inning. Seager had the second of two sacrifice flies in the sixth.
Jeff McNeil hit a two-run homer in the ninth for the Athletics, who lost their fifth straight game and have four losing streaks at least that long in the past two months. That stretch includes skids of 10 and nine games.
MacKenzie Gore (8-10) pitched around five singles and four walks, allowing one run in 5 1/3 innings.

HOUSTON (AP) — Colson Montgomery had two hits and two RBIs and Randal Grichuk added a two-run double to lead the Chicago White Sox to a 5-1 win over the Houston Astros on Tuesday night.
Sean Burke (8-6) allowed one hit and walked four with six strikeouts in 5 2/3 scoreless innings for the win after walking a career-high eight in just three innings in his last start.
Houston's loss, combined with Texas' 8-5 win over the Athletics, cut the Astros' lead over the Rangers in the AL West to one game.
The White Sox had runners on first and second with two outs in the fifth when Andrew Benintendi's RBI single to right field made it 1-0. Montgomery followed with a double to score two more and push the lead to 3-0.
Chicago got another big hit with two on and two out in the seventh when Grichuk's double made it 5-0. The White Sox had a chance to add to the lead after that, but Cam Smith robbed Tristan Peters of a homer with a leaping catch in right field to end the inning.

The Texas Rangers scored eight runs while the Californian Athletics scored five runs.
The Rangers seem to have finally found themselves a punching bag and the veterans were lining up to throw some haymakers.
September started in a similar fashion to how August ended with Texas beating up on the hapless Athletics. The catalyst tonight was the guys you hope can do damage as hitters No. 2-4, Corey Seager, Wyatt Langford, and Brandon Nimmo, combined for eight of Texas' twelve hits, five of their eight runs, and six of the eight RBIs.
Not be left out, No. 5 hitter Ezequiel Duran worked a couple of walks and drove in one of the other runs while also making a sensational play at second base to keep the would-be tying run off the board in the early goings.
The Rangers scored first in the game's opening frame when Nimmo drove in Seager with a two-out double. Meanwhile, Texas starter MacKenzie Gore was able to keep the Gore Inning to a minimum as the A's tied the game at a run apiece in the top of the third before Gore escaped a bases loaded jam to end the threat.

A moment the San Diego Padres envisioned more than three years ago is finally coming to fruition.
Former Missions catcher Ethan Salas, the No. 1 overall prospect in the San Diego organization, was called up on Tuesday from Triple-A El Paso, the team announced.
We have selected the contract of C Ethan Salas from Triple-A El Paso, recalled RHP Jhony Brito from El Paso, and transferred INF/OF Luis Rengifo to the 60-day IL.
If Salas makes his Major League debut Tuesday night against the Cincinnati Reds, he would be the youngest player to appear in an MLB game as catcher since 1991, per MLB's Sarah Langs.
Salas began the season in San Antonio and played in 72 games for the Missions this season. He slashed .286/.361/.417 with 74 hits, seven home runs, 37 RBIs and 41 runs with San Antonio this year. It was just over a month ago when Missions manager Chris Tremie broke the news to Salas that he would be sent up to Triple-A El Paso on July 29.

On paper, it looked like a big advantage that the Atlanta Braves got to play the makeup game for a June 18 rainout at the end of August. The San Francisco Giants would have to wait 10 weeks, fly across the country ahead of a six-game road trip, and trade away six veterans in the interim before facing a division-leading team on a seven-game win streak.
But waiting meant the Braves had to face a trio of rookies that weren't on the roster three weeks ago. Monday night, Sluggin' Jonah **** , Nate "The Great" Furman, and Turner "King Of The" Hill rained on the Braves parade with three runs, five fits, and four RBIs in a 7-3 win. Their sad fans were Tomahawk-chopping their umbrellas as they walk out of the stadium in despair.
This means that, perhaps unofficially, the Giants have finally swept a series in 2026. And it only took them until the last day of August! This means the Giants technically have swept a series this season, won a series on the road in the process and are currently on a three-series unbeaten streak.
Former Brave Anthony Molina (2-0), acquired in the deadline deal for Tyler Mahle, won his second game in seven days by giving up three runs in five innings in his first start of the season and the third of his career. He struck out five straight Braves between the 3rd and 4th innings and escaped the 5th after giving up four hits but only one run, and leaving with the game tied 3-3.
The Giants broke things open in the top of the 6th thanks to Osleivis Basabe and a trio of rookies. Basabe led off the inning with his 4th home run of the season, bouncing it off the top of the center field wall just above the Papa John's sign, which should probably earn him some free terrible pizza, right?

DENVER (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles claimed outfielder Luis Robert Jr. off waivers from the New York Mets on Monday.
The Orioles, who were starting a three-game series at Colorado on Monday night, said the 29-year-old Robert had not yet reported. He hit .223 with 10 home runs and 23 RBIs in 58 games for the Mets this season. He played his first six big league seasons for the Chicago White Sox, who picked up a $20 million option for him for 2026 before trading him.
Robert's contract also has a $20 million club option for 2027 with a $2 million buyout.
Robert was an All-Star in 2023, when he hit 38 home runs and stole 20 bases. But that's the only big league season in which he has played more than 110 games. He has a career .856 OPS against left-handers, and if he can flash some of that form he could help the Orioles, perhaps in a platoon with Colton Cowser in center field. Baltimore also recently lost corner outfielder Tyler O'Neill, like Robert a right-handed hitter, to the injured list because of a shoulder problem.
The Orioles recalled left-hander Cade Povich from Triple-A Norfolk to start Monday, optioned right-handed reliever Anthony Nunez to Norfolk and designated infielder Luis Vázquez for **** ignment.

NEW YORK (AP) — Juan Soto, activated from the 10-day injured list before the game, had the go-ahead RBI single a pitch after fouling a ball off his right leg Saturday, leading the New York Mets to a 6-2 victory over the Houston Astros.
Soto was tended to by manager Andy Green and a trainer before his hit off Cristian Javier (1-5) capped a seven-pitch battle and sparked a three-run fifth for the Mets, who halted a three-game skid.
Soto returned to the last-place Mets after missing 31 games with a grade 2 strain of his left calf. It was the second IL stint of the season for Soto.
Jared Young added a two-run triple later in the fifth and finished with three hits and a career-high three RBIs. Francisco Alvarez hit a two-run double in the eighth,
Nolan McLean (10-8) surrendered an unearned run and struck out four over seven innings. He is 8-4 with a 2.19 ERA over his last 16 starts.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Josh Rojas had his second career game with four RBIs, Salvador Perez hit two doubles and the Kansas City Royals defeated the Cleveland Guardians 8-3 on Saturday for their 12th win in 13 games.
Rojas came into the game as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning. He lined a two-run single to left to extend Kansas City's lead to 6-2 and added a two-run homer in the eighth. Rojas' other game with four RBIs was with Arizona in 2022.
Cleveland's Angel Martínez had two hits, including a two-run homer, and drove in three runs. The Guardians have dropped their last two after a seven-game winning streak.
Anthony Gose (1-0) pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings as five Royals relievers combined to allow one run and two hits in 5 2/3 innings.
Kansas City broke it open with a four-run sixth as its first five batters reached base. Perez's double to left-center off Colin Holderman (6-4) drove in Bobby Witt Jr. with the go-ahead run.

CHICAGO – After news of Shohei Ohtani's setback in his pitching rehab program reached Wrigley Field, it took all of two innings for Chicago Cubs star Pete Crow-Armstrong to hit two more home runs – his 34th and 35th of the season.
A deafening chorus of chants rained down after the second homer, nearly 40,000 voices strong: "M-V-P! M-V-P!"
Not to be outshined in his own drive for postseason hardware, Cincinnati Reds first baseman Sal Stewart responded in the next half-inning with a loud drive over the left-field wall for his 30th home run and RBIs 103 and 104.
It made him the 10th rookie since the Rookie of the Year award was established in 1947 to hit at least 30 home runs with 100 RBIs. The nine others all won the award.
And it's still August.
