Lipsey was among a batch of approximately 90 athletes who entered a class-action lawsuit filed in the state of Indiana against the NCAA. Across the country, many athletes in various sports are suing the NCAA in an effort to get a fifth year of eligibility.
In June, the NCAA Division I Cabinet unanimously approved a new five-year, age-based eligibility model, also known as the "five-for-five rule," which went into effect starting with the 2026-27 academic year. The new rule provides student-athletes across all sports with five years of eligibility over five seasons.
Under the new guidelines, each player's eligibility clock begins upon initial full-time college enrollment or at the beginning of the academic year following the athlete's 19th birthday, whichever occurs first. The "five-for-five rule" pertained to those enrolled in colleges for the 2026-27 school year. So those who concluded their collegiate careers in 2026, particularly high school athletes who graduated in 2022 and played four years of college without redshirting, were initially not included by the NCAA's new ruling.

Kansas City's prize offseason acquisition, Super Bowl LX MVP Kenneth Walker, got loose around the right side after Broncos cornerback Riley Moss missed the tackle. Safety Brandon Jones was the only defender who had a chance to stop Walker after that and appeared to have the angle.
He didn't.
Walker has 16 carries for 149 yards and a touchdown in his Chiefs' debut, the second-most yards of his career. He had 23 carries for 167 yards and two touchdowns in his sixth career game, which was against the Chargers.

ESPN's decision to air an interview with U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz on College GameDay this week was bound to get attention.
That's why they did it.
The backlash the network is facing has a lot more to do with its refusal to balance Cruz's perspective with anyone on the GameDay panel or from another guest — and what Bomani Jones, in an episode of his podcast The Right Time on Sunday, called "pretty dire consequences" that could come from "shilling" for the Senate's Protect College Sports Act.
Jones called out ESPN for not bringing on an opponent of the PCSA on the show, and for compounding its partnership with the powers that be with another unusual decision during its broadcast from the University of Texas on Saturday.
"There are serious consequences to what ESPN chose to do," he said. "What they did was flatly wrong, and it is possible that it will contribute to limiting the ability of players to cash in, their chance to cash in in this life. I think those are pretty dire consequences, and I think that there should be a pretty loud uproar about that."

If there is a reason for USC football fans to be very optimistic about the upcoming game against Oregon, it's more than just the Ducks' substandard performance. Oregon's coaching staff, with new offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer aboard, might be out of its depth.
Mike Ostrom of Duck Sports Central has more on this:
"Oregon Tipping a Run or Pass - This isn't sign stealing; this is good old fashioned film study and insight. Oklahoma State saw something on film and the result was Cowboy players knowing whether a run or pass was coming.
"'We were noticing earlier in the week that their (Oregon's) offensive line had tendencies that helped us key into run (or) pass and a couple areas we could take advantage of,' said senior linebacker Tate Romney, 'and obviously our defensive line was keyed into that. That was one big thing that gave us a big advantage.' What were those tendencies? 'Just their offensive line had a few stance indicators for most of the time run/pass,' said Romney."
Oregon and Dan Lanning did not have these problems under previous offensive coordinator Will Stein. Lanning had highly professional offensive coordinators the past few years with Stein and predecessor Kenny Dillingham calling plays. The drop-off from them to Drew Mehringer seems steep, and it's a big reason not only for Oregon's decline, but for USC's increased chances of being able to beat the Ducks later this September.

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Drew Lock is preparing to lead the team in Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals with Sam Darnold set to sit out for the game.
Lock gave the Seahawks a timely lift in the opener, stepping in after Darnold left the game due to injury and delivering a quality performance that led to a win. He completed 16 of 22 passes for 187 yards and a touchdown, and took care of the football in the affair.
Lock is equipped to provide Seattle with quick decisions, controlled passing and a balanced rushing attack against Arizona. Lock's mobility will be useful if the Cardinals create a great amount of pressure and force him to scramble outside the pocket.
The larger test will be maintaining that composure for a full game on the road. Seattle will need Lock to protect the football, keep the offense on schedule and capitalize on scoring chances. If he does, the Seahawks will have a realistic path to another important early-season victory.

Sue Bird took center stage in Apple TV's recently-released three-part docuseries on the history of UConn women's basketball, which focused its second episode on the program's bitter, longstanding rivalry with Pat Summit's Tennessee.
Bird starred for Geno Auriemma from 1998 to 2002, a stretch that included two Final Four matchups with the Volunteers and served as the apex of tensions between the two programs. The Hall of Famer praised the Apple TV production for a nostalgic look back at her legendary run with the program and for spotlighting the themes that have defined Auriemma's four decades leading UConn.
"I finally got a chance to check out 'The Dynasty: UConn Huskies,' the doc that was on Apple TV," Bird said on her "Bird's Eye View" podcast Monday. "And listen, I loved it. I think we can all agree, right from the jump, that it is so well done. It is a wonderful documentary."
"There were certain players or certain eras touched on more, but I think what has always united us as players, whether you played together or not, was that we all had very similar experiences. As one of the most recognizable stars from UConn's turn-of-the-century teams, Sue Bird was closely involved with the production in the documentary. The Boston Celtics have reportedly signed Devin Carter to a training camp deal, per HoopsHype's Michael Scotto. Carter, 24, will have the opportunity to either earn a spot on Boston's main NBA roster or to join Amari Williams and Dillon Mitchell as one of the Celtics' three two-way talents. Should he sign a two-way deal, he would be expected to spend the majority of the season with the Maine Celtics. Still, it's fair to ******* ume he'd get a chance to impress with the NBA roster at some point, too.
Unfortunately, the decision to sign Carter doesn't come without a potential roster casualty. Milos Uzan has been with the Celtics since signing an Exhibit 10 contract earlier this summer. Uzan instantly impressed when suiting up for the Celtics during Las Vegas Summer League, where he averaged 9.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4 ******* ists per game, shooting 36.8 percent from 3-point range and 38.1 percent from the field.
Following John Tonje's decision to join the Portland Trail Blazers on a two-way deal earlier in the offseason, the path for Uzan to earn the final two-way spot with the Celtics appeared wide open. Sure, he'd have to impress during training camp and beat out Tucker DeVries, but given Boston's need for a depth piece at guard, everything seemed to be lining up.
Now, with Carter also in the mix, Uzan is facing a far tougher battle to prove himself and earn a two-way spot with the Celtics. Uzan is a talented young guard and should have no problem finding a home in the coming months if things do not go his way.
Hopefully, he remains in Maine regardless of whether he gets a two-way deal. After all, he could still work with the Celtics' developmental staff and potentially prove the front office wrong for signing Carter, should that come to pass. Of course, Uzan will likely draw interest from elsewhere if Carter does beat Uzan to the Celtics' final two-way spot, and unfortunately for Uzan, that's just part of trying to make it in the NBA.

While the collection doesn't launch until Oct. 22, the Vansza activation will open its doors at 260 Bowery significantly sooner. Visitors will have the chance to take in the unique experience starting Sept. 10 at 2 p.m. local time. One of the 11 jurors who wanted to find Massachusetts mom Lindsay Clancy not criminally responsible for killing her three children said the panel viewed the case as a chance to make things "better for other women" and families — a thought process that one legal ****** yst is calling "problematic."
"Even though we didn't know what was going on outside of our little bubble that we were in, we knew that this was a turning point, and this would be something that could change something to make it better for other women in the future, for other families," 65-year-old Clancy juror Paula Devlin told "CBS Saturday Morning" over the weekend.
