Mike Evans made history before half-time in his first game for the 49ers against the Rams. The veteran receiver moved into the NFL's all-time top 20 in receiving yards, passing a Seattle legend to do it.
Evans entered the night with 13,052 career yards, needing just 38 to leapfrog Steve Largent's career mark of 13,089.
He cleared it with five catches for 47 yards in the first half, taking his total to 13,099.

The Yankees were one of a handful of teams that didn't play on Labor Day, but not many top American League contenders were in action. The Rays, White Sox, Astros, and Rangers all joined the Yanks in taking a breather on the offday. At least Aaron Judge is officially back! So call that a notable exception to the absence of action.
Here's what the teams that were active were up to on Labor Day.
I hope no one actually had any real expectations of the hapless Angels going into Fenway and doing much of anything. Brayan Bello needed 103 pitches to get through five scoreless innings, allowing four hits and two walks, but again, these are the Angels. They didn't do much with their opportunities, and they were put in a 5-0 hole in a hurry anyway.
Erstwhile Orioles prospect Grayson Rodriguez was terrible, inflating his season ERA to 6.28 in 17 starts when both Jarren Duran and Adley Rutschman homered off him in the second. His old batterymate's dinger high off the Pesky Pole was a three-run blast and proved to be a crushing blow.

Christopher Bell — winner: "It's been too ***** long. Oh my gosh, man. I'm just so, so proud of all these guys. All this No. 20 car. All the mechanics. All the pit crew members. They deserve it more than anyone. This has been a long time coming. Darlington has been one that I've always wanted to win since I got into the sport. This is the ultimate driver's track. I knew we'd able to win it. We can win any week. It just hadn't happened yet. But yes, when I was sitting in the infield care center at Michigan, I thought my season was over. I thought I was going to be out a couple of weeks. I thought I wasn't going to make the Chase. We're still in it, baby."
Ty Gibbs — second: "Well, I think it's just goes back to where we started. They had a pretty squirrelly metric, and we started 28th ranked in the fourth seed. Hopefully we can fix that for next time. I feel like the Toyota Camry was great. Yeah, I don't know. I'm glad Christopher won. I'm happy for him and the 20 team. We just missed it a little bit and had some issues happen a little bit. But appreciate all the effort from everyone on my team."
Tyler Reddick — third: "We just had a little hiccup on the left front on one of those green-flag cycles in Stage 2. The guys did a great job catching it. That could have been catastrophic in the first pit stall. Good job the boys not making a mistake much worse. Just lost a little bit of track position at a critical time. I think for us, where our car went was just track position. We got where it needed to be for that final restart. It was a little tough at the end, but we know where we need to be at the end of this race and years to come. Good day for the Chase. Really want to win this race bad and one day we will. It's good to be in contention every year."

Former NFL player Emmanuel Acho came to Tua Tagovailoa's defense after the Miami Dolphins quarterback became the subject of a social media controversy involving an alleged burner account. Acho urged critics to ease up, suggesting the situation may have been the result of someone close to the quarterback managing his online presence rather than Tagovailoa praising himself.
The controversy began after a social media account ******* ociated with Tagovailoa appeared to post supportive comments about the quarterback. Fans quickly questioned whether the Dolphins star was operating a burner account, creating another viral NFL discussion centered on athletes and their sometimes complicated relationship with social media.

Acho offered a different explanation for the unusual exchange. He suggested that a family member, possibly Tagovailoa's wife, could manage the quarterback's social media accounts and may have forgotten to switch back to a personal profile before posting praise.
The former NFL linebacker noted that athletes increasingly rely on relatives, representatives and other trusted people to help manage their social media activity. The arrangement can provide distance from criticism and online harassment, allowing players to protect their mental health while maintaining an active public presence.

CHICAGO (AP) — Christian Yelich capped Milwaukee's four-run sixth inning with a tiebreaking two-run homer, helping the Brewers beat the Chicago Cubs 9-4 on Tuesday night.
Milwaukee used a 13-hit attack to restore its eight-game lead in the NL Central over Chicago, bouncing back nicely after losing 17-3 to the Cubs in the opener of the four-game series. The top three hitters in the Brewers' lineup — Jackson Chourio, Brice Turang and William Contreras — went 6 for 14 and scored four times.
A day after hitting a franchise-record nine homers, Chicago was held to three singles and three doubles on a muggy night at Wrigley Field. Tyrone Taylor drove in two runs, and BJ Murray Jr. singled in the sixth for his first hit in his major league debut.
Milwaukee went ahead to stay in the sixth. Turang scored on a balk by Daniel Palencia, and Andrew Vaughn's RBI double tied it at 3. Yelich then drove an 0-2 slider from Palencia (2-2) to right-center for his 10th homer.
Yelich also walked and scored on Joey Ortiz's eighth homer in the eighth, a two-run shot to center field off Tyler Ferguson that lifted the Brewers to a 9-4 lead.

Tennis star Naomi Osaka discussed the influence that Allen Iverson has had on her career at the 2026 U.S. Open.
Osaka is one of the most fashion-forward stars in the world of tennis right now, breathing life into the sport's pregame routine with audacious outfits reminiscent of NBA players coming out of the tunnel.
Turns out, that is one of the biggest reasons behind Osaka's dressing style, openly giving the credit to the legendary Allen Iverson for influencing her career.
Osaka spoke to the media before her first-round match against Anastasia Zakharova, discussing the impact that Iverson has had on her career by being an athlete involved in fashion.
"For me, he is a trailblazer. He's someone I look up to because he has done a lot in fashion, whether it was on purpose or not… I also think the conversation around clothes in sports and expressing yourself through style; I feel like he is someone I look up to in that regard."

Week 2 of the 2026 Augusta high school football season has come and gone, and as expected, it didn't disappoint. Teams continue to play their hearts out here in the early part of the season. And with that has come with impressive performances both individually and at the team level as well.
With that being said, here's what we saw that we think you need to know about coming out of the second week of Augusta-area high school football.
The last time Richmond Academy and Thomson met up a season ago, it was arguably the game of the year. There's an argument to make that their meeting on Friday night may have topped that one. The lead jostled from one team to the other. The Musketeers held a double digit lead early in the first half before the Bulldogs managed to take a two score lead of their own by the fourth quarter.
Richmond Academy clawed its way back in front late with a score and a two-point conversion, courtesy of a connection from sophomore quarterback Henry Rivers to senior Lo'than McBride. That, plus the Musketeers getting a huge stop in the red zone on 4th down, helped them beat the Bulldogs 41-40.
"This year's game is just us proving ourselves right, less about proving anybody else wrong," Richmond Academy head coach Keenan Grissett said. "A lot of emotions, a lot of back and forth, a lot of situations, a lot of just football."

Crocs, Pokemon cards and kendamas never go out of style in Hawaii. And neither does the Warriors' four-wide offense, In video sessions with offensive newcomers, receivers coach Jared Ursua shows old footage of the Warriors' passing game. "We've been doing this since January," Ursua said of clips of former UH QBs Dan Robinson, Nick Rolovich, Timmy Chang, Colt Brennan, Bryant Moniz and Cole McDonald. "We are who we are, we do what we do, and this system has always worked." QB1 Micah Alejado has been starring in recent remakes, deciphering defenses ahead of the snap, releasing passes within 2.2 seconds, and throwing to targeted areas on the receivers' routes. "Micah's a special quarterback," said Chang, the UH head coach who calls the offensive plays. "He understands our offense, and he understands what teams are trying to do against us." Ursua has implored the receivers to read the coverages correctly "so Micah can throw at a high level based on our indicators, which is what the run-and-shoot is based off." Alejado has shown toughness, playing through injuries to his right ankle last season. He did not participate in contact drills ahead of the Hawaii Bowl, during which he completed 69.6% of his throws for 274 yards and three TDs. Last season, the Warriors scored on 46.1% of Alejado's full drives. Slotbacks Blaze Kamoku, Tama Uiliata, Audric Harris, Kainoa "Kaikai" Carvalho, ******* an Lacaden and Koa Eldredge are reliable inside receivers. Devin Alves, Tre' Griffiths and Carson Brown are tall and fast wideouts. With running back Landon Sims' graduation, Cam Barfield will get the bulk of the reps. Barfield did not fumble while averaging 9.1 touches as a running back, receiver and returner. Left tackle Boogie Henderson's emergence enabled Dean Briski to move to the right side. At 6-6 and 345 pounds, Oregon transfer Lipe Moala is mobile on pulls.
Three years ago, in his first season as UH's defensive coordinator, Dennis Thurman kept intact the 4-2-5 scheme the Warriors ran under Corey Batoon in 2019 and Jacob Yoro in 2023. In 2024, Thurman incorporated some of the attacking schemes he used when he was an ******* istant coach with the Baltimore Ravens and DC with the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills. "Main focus is staying healthy," said Moore, who relies on stretching as part of his prehab. Ho'ohuli and Jamih Otis have switched linebacker jobs. Ho'ohuli is now the middle, often working in tandem with nickelback Elijah Palmer. As the renamed dime linebacker, Otis often has isolation ******* ignments, which enable him to use his speed in the flats and to break off for direct aim at running backs. Liverpool's transfer plans have been questioned this summer and fan Sam Milne believes the Reds have been too "scattergun" in their approach for a new forward player.
Andoni Iraola's side have been linked to a host of new attackers, including Paris St-Germain duo Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye, and have had offers knocked back for Brighton's Yankuba Minteh - and are now exploring a move for Crystal Palace's Isamila Sarr in the last week of the transfer window.
Speaking on BBC Radio Merseyside, Milne said: "I was surprised at first because if you look at the right wingers that Liverpool have been trying to sign all summer, they have all been very different.
"The reaction to the bid for Sarr has been quite negative. I don't think that's a reflection on Sarr himself because Liverpool fans have seen what he can do against us - I think he's scored six goals against Liverpool. It's more the difference in Sarr to the other players that have been linked.
"The rumours came out about Minteh and Liverpool put £60m in for him. An injured Minteh and a left-footed Minteh - which is interesting because Mohamed Salah was left-footed and Yan Diomande was both-footed, but Mbaye wasn't left-footed and neither is Sarr. That's where the worry starts to lie for Liverpool fans. What are we attempting?

Celtic midfielder Mika Baur has stressed the need for the squad to stick together in adversity and look forward to the consolation prize of the Europa League.
The 22-year-old German started both legs against LASK - his first starts for the club - but like most of his team-mates, was considerably less impressive as Celtic blew a four-goal advantage to lose 5-4 after extra time to miss out on Champions League football.
Baur acknowledged afterwards this was one of the toughest moments of his short career.
"Yeah, it is, but I really try to be sad at the moment and today. But we still play Europa League," he said.
"We still have a lot going on in Scotland. So yeah, we need to move on tomorrow, stay together, and we need to come back and try better on Saturday.

It only took Reinier de Ridder one victory over an unranked fighter to debut in the Top 10 at 205 pounds.
The former middleweight contender jumped to the light heavyweight division at UFC Sacramento last weekend in California, where he summarily disposed of longtime veteran Roman Dolidze. The 35-year-old "Dutch Knight" (22-4) landed at No. 9 in the official Meta Rankings, sandwiched between Dominick Reyes (No. 8) and Azamat Murzakanov (No. 10).
That's not all.
Jamall Emmers made his debut in the featherweight rankings by hospitalizing red-hot 145-pound prospect Lerryan Douglas with a broken orbital. In addition, "Crispy" Carli Judice joined the women's flyweight Top 15 after stopping Jeisla Chaves in the opening frame. The Indianapolis Colts' kicking competition is coming down to the wire.
For much of training camp, it seemed like Blake Grupe had the advantage. In the practice setting, he was making kicks at a much higher rate than Spencer Shrader.
However, over the last two weeks, with the preseason games taking place, Shrader has "really closed the gap," special teams coordinator Brian Mason said on Monday, via The Athletic's James Boyd.
#colts STC Brian Mason says Blake Grupe is at 86% on FGs this offseason and Spencer Shrader is at 81%. No decision yet on who will be Indy's kicker this season.

"Shrader really closed the gap, I think, these last two weeks."

Adds that "in game kicks carry the most weight."
Shrader is currently 4-for-4 on field goal attempts entering the final preseason game, which includes hitting two kicks from over 50 yards.

The New York Yankees, who've had new injuries repeatedly pop up this season as if they're playing a game of Whac-A-Mole, will welcome the imminent return of three-time All-Star Cody Bellinger. The outfielder told reporters in the Bronx on Saturday that he'll be activated for Sunday's series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays.
It's expected to be his first outing with the Yankees since he suffered a Grade 2 strain of his left hamstring on July 25. He experienced the setback while running the bases after hitting a double in the eighth inning of a road victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.
Bellinger is coming off his second minor-league rehab game for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Although he went hitless for the RailRiders on Friday, he saw action in left field. The previous day, he notched a single as the team's designated hitter.
"I'm very excited," Bellinger said Saturday of rejoining the Yankees' lineup, per MLB.com.
He added: "I feel good. I'm ready to go."

Newcastle United have opened talks with defender Lewis Hall over a new contract.
According to Sam C, the Magpies are keen to tie Hall down to a new long-term contract with improved terms as they look to fend off interest from Premier League rivals.
Newcastle have already been picked apart this summer. They have lost Sandro Tonali and captain Bruno Guimaraes and are in no mood to lose yet another key player.
The Magpies are going through a period of change this summer, with Eddie Howe's exit standing as arguably the biggest departure from the club.

The Baltimore Ravens brought Calais Campbell back for so many different reasons. Many of the most important are obvious. They needed help at edge rusher, and it was beneficial to add a veteran presence where they feature so many youngsters.
That's especially true now that Kyle Van Noy is gone, but it also doesn't hurt that Campbell still plays at a high level. As training camp has unfolded, however, it has become increasingly clear that his value extends far beyond what he contributes between the whistles.
Defensive line coach Lou Esposito was one of the Ravens who met with reporters on Tuesday. As expected. he was asked about Campbell's influence on a young defensive line room. His answer revealed something larger than veteran leadership. Esposito described a player who is actively teaching while still performing, serving as a mentor, culture carrier, and resource for an entire locker room.
"The knowledge that the young guys get, and not even just the young guys, [the knowledge] everyone in the room gets from him is priceless. He is consistently trying to pay it forward, consistently trying to help guys out, consistently [saying], 'Hey, what do you think about this? What happens if you tweak this stance? What happens if you line up like that? In this call, this is where the stress is.' So, he has been awesome, and at the same time, getting his body right, he is a master of his craft, and that is why he has played for so long in the NFL."
Those aren't simply motivational conversations. Those are coaching conversations. The interesting part of Campbell's return isn't simply that he remains productive deep into his NFL career. It is that he has become an extension of the coaching staff while still occupying a roster spot.

Maryland head coach Mike Locksley knows that he'll need all the help he can get if he wants to turn around a defense that finished near the bottom of the Big Ten in points allowed last season.
The Terrapins are well into their preparation for the 2026 season, but they received a commitment from experienced defensive back Jordan Scruggs, who will have to learn the system on the fly.
Scruggs is permitted to play another season in college football after a judge's injunction granted him one more year of eligibility.
He's played at several different schools, including Washburn, Central Missouri, Hutchinson CC, South Alabama, and most recently, West Virginia. He redshirted at Washburn.
Scruggs seemed to be inclined to return to the Mountaineers, but changed course late in the process.

Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White was targeted with calls for her firing for how she handled the recent Sophie Cunningham/DiJonai Carrington situation, which led to members of the media and several Fever stars coming to her defense.

The Los Angeles Rams signed punter Jack Bouwmeester on Sunday, giving them two on the 90-man roster headed into their second preseason game against the New Orleans Saints this week. Bouwmeester is Australian and qualifies for the league's international pathway program exemption, meaning that the Rams can control his rights without him counting against their practice squad limits.
Ethan Evans continues to be one of the best punters in the NFL, so this signing would seemingly not be a threat to his job.
Bouwmeester, 27, played college football for Michigan State, Utah, and Texas. He went undrafted this year and signed with the San Francisco 49ers, but was waived last week. He was first-team All-Pac 12 in 2023 and second-team All-Big 12 in 2024.
Special teams has been a longstanding problem for Sean McVay, so maybe Bouwmeester just gives L.A. more options moving forward, and maybe if Evans is dealing with any issues, he gives the team a punter for the rest of the preseason.
If the Rams want, they can keep Bouwmeester on their practice squad after final cuts, without counting against their 16-man limit, until they or another team put him on their 53.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns to Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, Pa., TONIGHT (Sat., Aug. 15, 2026), where two of the very best mixed martial arts (MMA) Welterweight talents — Islam Makhachev vs. Ian Machado-Garry — are set to collide in UFC 330's Paramount+-streamed main event.
For 170-pound kingpin, Makhachev, the opportunity is about adding another chapter to an already historic run. The former Lightweight champion enters "The City of Brotherly Love" unbeaten for nearly a decade, riding a remarkable 16-fight win streak — one of the sport's seemingly untouchable records he co-owns with the legendary Anderson Silva.
Despite all of his accomplishments, questions (like this) remain about how his dominance would translate against another elite contender at 170 pounds.
Standing across from him was Garry, who has spent the last several years proving that his nickname is no longer a prediction. Indeed, "The Future" rapidly climbed UFC's rankings ladder, emerging as one of the division's most accomplished and confident (or arrogant?) young stars.
Something has to give when Dagestan meets Dublin in Philadelphia momentarily. Will Makhachev continue his historic march toward all-time greatness or will Garry score the biggest victory of his career and finally prove all the doubters wrong?

Endrick's future at Real Madrid has become one of the more interesting questions of the summer, and the latest development has come from an unexpected source.
AS Roma defender Wesley Franca has publicly admitted that he would like to see the Brazilian striker join him in the Italian capital.
Roma are understood to have shown an interest in Endrick in the wake of recent developments at Real Madrid.
For now, however, the youngster remains focused on proving that he can become an important player at the Santiago Bernabeu.
That ambition has been helped by a strong start to pre-season, in which Endrick has made a positive impression on Jose Mourinho's coaching staff.
