Aryna Sabalenka and Novak Djokovic will team up in a blockbuster pairing at the 2026 US Open Mixed Doubles Championship next month.
Women's world number one Sabalenka and record 24-times Grand Slam champion Djokovic are among the high-profile teams on the New York entry list for an event played before the singles competition takes place.
Elena Rybakina and Taylor Fritz, Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud, Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper and Taylor Townsend and Alexander Zverev are among the other star-studded pairings, but Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alacaraz are notable absentees so far.
The entry window will close on August 17 when the the top six teams with the best combined singles ranking will be accepted into the main draw. Eight teams will be determined via wild card.

At this moment in tennis, the three biggest names on the men's side are Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic. None of them will be in attendance for this year's National Bank Open in Montreal, which is in theory a mandatory tournament.
Tennis Canada confirmed Friday that Sinner and Djokovic have withdrawn from the tournament, roughly one week before its start date on Aug. 1. Alcaraz was already known to be out with the wrist injury that has sidelined him since clay season.
It is the second straight year Sinner and Djokovic have skipped the tournament.
Sinner has played only one tournament (his successful Wimbledon ******* le defense) since his cramp-induced crashout at Roland-Garros in May. He didn't cite a specific injury or health reason for the withdrawal:
"After carefully considering all the factors together with my team, we have made the difficult decision to withdraw from Montreal," Sinner explained in a statement. "It is never easy to miss such an important event, but we believe this is the right decision to prioritise my health. I'm disappointed not to be there, but I look forward to returning to Montreal in the future."

Indianapolis tennis legend Barbara Wynne passed away on July 18 at the age of 93.
Wynne's family goes way beyond her six children, 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. The Shortridge High School graduate was a massive force in Central Indiana tennis, paving the way for young talent to thrive in the sport.
Wynne helped establish the North Side Tennis Club in 1964, which eventually became the Indianapolis Community Tennis Program. Wynne began the public tennis program "with the vision that tennis can enhance one's athletic ability, as well as one's personal life," according to ICTP.
Wynne's program went from her backyard court to eight courts at North Central, where thirty courts and a tennis house were eventually built. Washington Township completed a multi-million-dollar renovation of the tennis house in 2003. The 30-court facility was named the Barbara S. Wynne Tennis Center.
In 1984, twenty years after founding her tennis club, Wynne's program began "Kids Helping Kids," a charity project to benefit Riley Children's Foundation. Young tennis players raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Riley Hospital for Children.

The tennis tour is heading into one of its busiest stretches of the season, with the North American hardcourt swing just around the corner. The sport's biggest stars are already ramping up their preparations for the season's final Grand Slam, the US Open. Home favorites Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe have arrived in Washington, D.C. for the ATP 500 event (July 27-August 2).
Meanwhile, another former US Open semifinalist, Jack Draper, has joined the field in search of redemption. He is accompanied by three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray.
Shelton has arrived in the US capital after a rather forgettable Wimbledon campaign, where he was sent packing in the first round by qualifier Otto Virtanen. The American has produced mixed results, winning just one match at the ATP Masters 1000 level this season and just five matches across the three completed Grand Slam events.
He has, however, won three ******* les, one on each surface, including two at the 500 level (Dallas and Munich). At the Mubadala DC Open, Shelton, who accepted a wildcard, is defending 200 ranking points after reaching the semifinals last year. He would be hoping for an even better run as he builds momentum ahead of his Canadian Open ******* le defense.
On Thursday, July 23, the American was stopped training at the venue alongside Tiafoe. The players shared a laugh as they put in the hard yards under the sun. Interestingly, Shelton was seen wearing a left-arm sleeve.

Rules are to Wimbledon like lipsticks are to a cosmetics shop: There are lots. After the distracting champagne corks that kept popping through the 2025 final match between Jannick Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, with one landing at Sinner's feet before he was about to serve, we expect a possible ban on mid-match cork popping to come into effect one of these days.
Then, of course, there are the rules of the game, but the rules that we find most interesting are the fashion ones. For example, players at Wimbledon have to wear all-white outfits (except for women, who can wear dark undershorts beneath their skirts). While there aren't technically guidelines for guests' outfits other than a ban on bold logos and political slogans, it's well-known that you should look pulled together if you're attending a match.
Ah, but there is an exception, and that's for those sitting in the royal box, who need to adhere to the tennis club's rules of dresses or skirts for women and suits and ties for men. NB: Though it's not fashion protocol, there is also a rule that states children aren't allowed in the royal box on centre court. The exception? The royal offspring, naturally, back during the 2025 final, that meant that Prince George and Princess Charlotte sat alongside their parents, Prince William and Princess Catherine of Wales. Folks immediately noticed something interesting about Charlotte's look, though: her nail polish, which didn't seem to carry on one specific royal tradition.

"Amal is a really good athlete. When I was younger, I won some tennis tournaments. I played a lot of sports – I still play a lot of sports, and I can actually play [well]. And Amal just beats the **** out of me," George told People.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has introduced padel as a compulsory part of training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore.

Players attending long training camps will now have to play the racket sport for 40 minutes every alternate day as part of their fitness routine. The move is aimed at improving agility, reflexes, stamina and fielding skills.

The decision was made by senior selector and director of high performance Aqib Javed, who believes padel can help players become fitter while making training more enjoyable.

"Many of our players are already playing padel sports regularly but had to travel long distances to the limited courts in their home towns. We have now built a padel court facility at the NCA for the players," Aqib said, as quoted by news agency PTI.

He explained that padel, a sport combining elements of tennis and squash, is physically demanding despite being played on a smaller court. According to him, it helps improve movement, endurance and overall fitness, making it a useful addition to cricket training.

Aqib said the PCB wants the National Cricket Academy to become a place where players can develop all aspects of their game. Along with mandatory padel sessions every second day, the board is planning to add more sports and recreational facilities.

The PCB intends to build basketball courts as well as an indoor hall featuring snooker and other games. Aqib also revealed that the academy has already installed an AI-powered bowling machine as part of efforts to modernise training.

With these additions, the PCB hopes to create a better environment for cricketers to improve their fitness, sharpen their skills and prepare more effectively for international cricket.

NEW YORK (AP) — Two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka and Wimbledon winner Jannik Sinner lead the fields for the U.S. Open that begins next month.
The U.S. Tennis ****** ociation announced the direct entry lists Tuesday for the final Grand Slam tournament of the season. Based on the July 20 rankings on the WTA and ATP Tours, the cutoff was No. 102 for the women and No. 101 for the men.
Sabalenka tops the women's rankings and will arrive in Flushing Meadows trying to become the first woman to win three straight U.S. Open ****** les since Serena Williams from 2012-14.
Sinner will be trying to regain the ****** le that Carlos Alcaraz took from the 2024 champion when they met in last year's final. The top-ranked Italian is coming off his fifth major championship, when he beat French Open champion Alexander Zverev in the Wimbledon final.
Alcaraz, who has missed the last two majors because of a wrist injury but hopes to return during the North American hard-court swing, is ranked No. 3 and entered in the field.

Wimbledon may be known for its legendary matches, celebrity sightings and royal appearances, but Buckingham Palace just served up a fun fact that had many royal fans doing a double take. We have been on Tommy Paul and Paige Lorenze wedding watch since Wimbledon ended. A big hint that the wedding is imminent is a recent social media post featuring Paul and a few familiar faces, namely his tennis peers Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, and Reilly Opelka playing a game on grass.
Some of those same faces were just playing on the Wimbledon grass. Though we cannot recognize everyone in the video, it looks like a fun start to the festivities.
Paul did not share any wedding details when asked at Wimbledon. All he would say was that Lorenze was not traveling to England this year, regardless of how far he got in the tournament.

Jul. 14—Plenty of Illinois athletes didn't generate many headlines or social media interaction during the past 12 months, but they still racked up accomplishments in their respective fields (and oftentimes in the classroom, too). Beat writer Scott Richey spotlights 10 Illini who deserved more pub from the 2025-26 school year:
Miyoshi got it done on the court and in the classroom. The Illini senior secured his 100th career singles win in the second round of the NCAA tournament and ended the year ranked as the No. 17 singles player in the country. Off the court, the Tokyo native was Illinois' Big Ten Medal of Honor winner, earned Second Team Academic All-American status and claimed the Midwest Region's Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award.
Schaefbauer made it a clean sweep for Illinois tennis as the university's other Big Ten Medal of Honor winner. Schaefbauer progressed from the Illini's No. 6 singles player after transferring from South Carolina to playing No. 1 singles exclusively her junior and senior year. The political science major was just as proficient in the classroom and earned her third straight CSC Academic All-District and third straight ITA Scholar-Athlete honor this year.
Luuk Pelkmans' standout freshman season did outshine his fellow Dutch multi-event star to some degree. But de Greef did put up a third-place finish in the heptathlon at the NCAA indoor championships and followed that up by qualifying for the decathlon in the NCAA outdoor championships. De Greef held the Illinois decathlon record briefly before Pelkmans took it after de Greef scored 8,039 points at the Illini Deca-Jam on April 10-11 at Demirjian Park.
Cho's 4.0 GPA in interdisciplinary health sciences helped her share Illinois' Outstanding Scholar-Athlete award for the sophomore class with Kylie Eaton (women's golf) and Ava Moore (softball). Something she accomplished while also leading the Illini women's gymnastics team. Cho was ranked as high as No. 2 on the uneven bars and No. 3 in the all-around on the national level during the 2026 season.

CONNEAUT — A lot has changed in the 21 years since Dave Simpson and Doug Hedrick started the Conneaut Tennis Camp.
Different courts is one big change, but something that hasn’t changed is the attempt to teach the basics of tennis and provide character lessons as well, Simpson said.
He said he was head tennis coach for Conneaut High School and Hedrick was the junior high coach at the time the camp started.
Simpson said the camp included 15 participants during week at the SPARC-Ricaurte Tennis Courts. The campers, who were from third to eighth grade, returned throughout the week.
“We emphasize different skills,” Simpson said of the varied drills that were also connected to fun competition.

NEW DELHI: Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has given teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi a new nickname - "Terminator 6" - and said he would love to mentor the youngster just as he did with India opener Abhishek Sharma.

Yuvraj believes the 15-year-old is a "serious player in the making" and has a bright future ahead.

Sooryavanshi recently made his senior India debut in the T20I series against England. Earlier this year, he also broke Yuvraj's record for the fastest List A fifty by an Indian, reaching the milestone in just 11 ******* during the India A vs Sri Lanka A Tri-Series final.
Speaking on Star Sports, Yuvraj explained why he calls Abhishek Sharma "Terminator 4" and revealed that Sooryavanshi has now earned the ******* le of "Terminator 6."

"I always call myself a Terminator. Now there is Terminator 4, Abhishek Sharma, who is four times better than me. And after him comes Terminator 6, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who has evolved even more. Yuvraj said he has already spent a lot of time working with Abhishek and hopes to do the same with Vaibhav. Drawing a comparison with modern tennis stars, he said the game continues to evolve with every generation.

"When I watch Sinner and Alcaraz, I see how tennis is changing. I see the same evolution in Abhishek and Vaibhav. I have spent a lot of time training Abhishek, and I would love to spend time with Vaibhav as well. He has a great career ahead of him. He is a serious player in the making, and I believe he will get there," he added.

STATELINE, Nevada — Mardy Fish is back on top at Edgewood Tahoe, joining a select group of celebrities to win three or more times at Edgewood Tahoe.
Fish, a former tennis pro, scored 20 points on Sunday to give him 72 for the three-day American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament.
He also won in 2020, when no spectators were allowed on the course due to the pandemic, and again in 2024.
Defending champion Joe Pavelski finished second with 66 points and Steph Curry, the 2023 champion, was third with 59. Annika Sorenstam, playing in the same group as Fish and Pavelski, was fourth with 58.
Fish picked up $150,000 for the win.

Wimbledon is always a very special tournament and one of the crown jewels of the British summer of sport.
The 2026 tournament has been no different - full of excitement, great stories and, after a slow start for the home nation, some great British success.
With a high level of tennis, the gorgeous weather and the addition of England doing well in the World Cup, I think it truly has been a great Championships.

Novak Djokovic is arguably the greatest tennis player of all time, but he spent a significant portion of his career competing with other all-time greats, whether it was Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal at the beginning of his career or now Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner at the end. However, he is not a fan of the notion that he is “chasing” anyone in his career.
This week, Djokovic fell to Sinner in three sets in the semifinal at Wimbledon before Sinner went on to win the championship on Sunday. The loss led to a question about how Djokovic is now “chasing” Alcaraz and Sinner after previously “chasing” Nadal and Federer.
Needless to say, Djokovic was not a fan of the question.
“I’m chasing Jannik and Carlos? In what sense?” Djokovic responded. “I’m always the chaser and never been chased?”

Good morning everyone – We have off days for both the World Cup and the Tour de France today, and I don't think anyone is that interested in the tennis tournaments in Gstad, Umag, or Bastad . The great news is this gives us lots of time to talk about Wimbledon.
This time we're going to be focusing on just the women's final, where Linda Noskova defeated her Czech countrywoman Karolina Muchova 6-2 5-7 6-3. But then Noskova settled early on and, like the first set, overpowered the crafty Muchova.
