Los Angeles Lakers star Austin Reaves was in Slovenia in August for a minicamp hosted by teammate Luka Doncic, and he has now made another trip abroad in September. Reaves' longtime girlfriend, Jenna Barber, posted pictures on Instagram on Sunday of the couple vacationing in Mexico with their friends.
Barber and Reaves can be seen relaxing on a yacht in a couple of the pictures, and they also spent time at a Señor Frog's restaurant with the group.
This could be Reaves' last vacation this summer, as the Lakers commence their training camp on Sept. 29. It will be time to get back to work pretty soon. That Slovenia minicamp was a bit more of a bonding trip, and it was needed with all the new faces on the Lakers' roster. They'll have close to 10 new players in the rotation.
Bronny James isn't one of the new faces, but he enjoyed the experience and made it clear the trip helped the team. Speaking of Bronny, his father LeBron James left the Lakers this summer for the Philadelphia 76ers.
LeBron's departure puts more pressure on Reaves, who is now the unquestioned second option behind Doncic. Now, the 28-year-old is coming off the best season of his career, having averaged 23.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 5.5 **** ists, 1.1 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game in 2025-26.

EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Vikings safety Harrison Smith is coming back for a 15th season.
The Vikings announced Saturday that they had agreed to terms on a deal with the six-time Pro Bowl selection who has spent his entire career in Minnesota. Terms weren't disclosed.
Smith had indicated at the end of last season that he wasn't sure whether he would retire or play again in 2026, and his future was the subject of speculation thoughout the offseason.
The 37-year-old Smith is one of only four players ever to have 50 tackles for loss and 100 passes defended while playing at least 200 career games. The others are Charles Woodson, Brian Dawkins and Ronde Barber.
Smith has 21 1/2 career sacks and 39 interceptions. Barber is the only other NFL player to ever have at least 38 interceptions and 21 ½ sacks.

The Boston Celtics have a long tradition of giving back to the city they play their NBA basketball in, and reserve forward Jordan Walsh helped keep that tradition going with a back-to-school event held this past Thursday (Sep. 3) that saw 15 youths from the area treated to a shopping spree at a local sporting goods store, as well as free haircuts from ****** le City Barbers and free sneakers from New Balance.
Walsh has been leading this event annually since he was picked up by Boston in the 2023 NBA Draft. "I think that if you have the opportunity to give back, then you should," offered the DeSoto, Texas native via team reporter Taylor Snow. "I think there needs to be a lot more people who are going out of their comfort zone, who are in places of power or in places where they can motivate other people, and use their platform for good."
"It should always be something that you keep in the back of your mind because you weren't born at the top, you weren't born at the level you're at," he added. "So if you had to grind to get there, there's people who are trying to grind get there as well. So you should show your support and love, and try to support them doing the same thing."
Walsh isn't just appreciative of that ethos from afar; he has been applying it to his own journey as a player as well. "It means that instead of just being a guy who comes into the league and is gone after three years, that I have some security to stick around," he said.
"There are bigger things that I want to achieve, but it's huge keeping that door open to be able to achieve the things that I want to get to," he added. "I want to be able to contribute, and I want to be able to create my own shots (and) ... to be able to be called on when we need to get a bucket, and also still do the same things on defense that I've been doing, because that's what got me here."

The starting right guard position for the Cleveland Browns is currently up in the air, with veteran Teven Jenkins battling an injury, though he was able to return to practice on Wednesday after missing Monday's practice. Wednesday's practice is Cleveland's final practice of the week before a short break, ahead of next week's season opener.
Before Wednesday's practice, Browns head coach Todd Monken said that if Jenkins couldn't go, they would see rookie offensive lineman Austin Barber getting reps as the team's starting right guard. This likely means that after two strong preseason games playing inside, Barber has earned the backup right guard role, and the team is confident in him if Jenkins isn't available.
Barber looks like he might have a future on the interior of the offensive line and was PFF's highest-graded rookie offensive tackle of the preseason with an 82.8 grade, though again most of his high-level play came at the guard position. Teven Jenkins has a long injury history, so more likely than not, we will see Barber get his shot at some point this season.

WEST ALLIS, WI – IndyCar continues to make adjustments to its doubleheader schedule at the Milwaukee Mile. With rain continuing at the track, the first race of the weekend – the Snap-On Makers and Fixers 250 – will not resume at 8 a.m. Sunday as planned after its Saturday evening postponement.
The second race – the Snap-On Milwaukee Mile 250 – will begin at 1 p.m., before the Snap-On Makers and Fixers 250 resumes. Then, IndyCar plans to resume the first race at approximately 6 p.m., about three hours after the checkered flag for the second race.
Pato O'Ward – who won at the Milwaukee Mile in 2024 – leads the first race through 90 laps, with Felix Rosenqvist and Alexander Rossi behind him. Alex Palou will start on the pole with O'Ward joining him on the front row for the second race.
This is now the second race of the IndyCar season that won't be completed on the day it was supposed to. The Music City Grand Prix was delayed from July 19 to July 20 after heavy rain in Lebanon, Tennessee. Before the Music City Grand Prix, IndyCar hadn't delayed any portion of a race a day since 2018 at Barber Motorsports Park.

Liverpool want a winger, the deadline is close, and Brighton know it. That is the story around Yankuba Minteh.
The 22-year-old has emerged as a serious target, with Liverpool having already seen two bids rejected. Brighton are understood to value Minteh at around £80 million, a figure that reflects market conditions as much as the player himself. When a buying club is short on options and short on time, the price goes up. Simple as that.

DETROIT — Detroit Lions running back Trayveon Williams took the handoff, read the leverage offensive lineman Melvin Priestly had on Washington Commanders defensive tackle Ricky Barber, cut back, then exploded through a hole near midfield for a gain of 14 yards.
Then Williams turned toward the sideline and watched as running backs coach Tashard Choice, along with star playmakers Jahmyr Gibbs and Jameson Williams, hyped him up.
"I could see T. Choice and J over there pretty lit," Williams said Aug. 22, after the Lions beat the Commanders in a preseason meeting. "That's the type of thing you like, man. When you come into a place, when you come into a new place, you've got to earn everybody's respect. … It's a good feeling to look over there and see them lit."
Williams, 28, was signed by the Lions on Aug. 16, and he saw only four non-walkthrough practices in Detroit before appearing in the Aug. 22 preseason win, in which he totaled a team-high 60 yards from scrimmage and scored what ultimately proved to be the difference-making touchdown. He also impressed with a 24-yard reception on a screen pass that came a handful of plays before he found the end zone.
Quickly acclimating to a new situation is nothing new for Williams, who last year signed with the Cleveland Browns four days before their preseason opener. He went on to total 43 yards on seven touches in that exhibition.

Jon Gruden is back in the broadcast booth.
The former NFL head coach and "Monday Night Football" **** yst became a fan favorite for quirky personality and unapologetic love of football. While Gruden is no longer on the sidelines, he did make a one night cameo appearance in the broadcast booth for a Tampa Bay Buccaneers preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Gruden was cast as the play-by-play announcer alongside Bucs' legend Ronde Barber, which represented a departure from his traditional role as an **** yst.
It marked Gruden's first game on the mic since Jan. 6, 2018, when the Tennessee **** ans defeated the Chiefs in the wild-card round.
After that game, the broadcaster would exchange the mic for a spot back on the then-Oakland Raiders sideline as the team's head coach. Gruden eventually resigned from his post in 2021 after some disparaging emails he wrote came to light. During that time, he was also removed from the Buccaneers' Ring of Honor. He has since been reinstated.

Several Shreveport-Bossier area high school cheerleading and dance groups will be headed to Lake Charles later this year to compete in the 2026 Louisiana High School Cheer & Dance Championships after a recent announcement by the LHSAA that it is adding those sports to its championship calendar after more than a decade of silence.
"It's a fantastic idea," Northwood cheer sponsor Rebecca Galambos said. "I'm glad to see cheer and dance recognized as a sport."
The state championships will be held Nov. 30-Dec. 1 at the Lake Charles Event Center featuring cheer and dance across multiple styles. The contending squads will compete in two rounds on the first day with the third round on Day 2. The LHSAA brought back the championships due to concerted efforts of the Louisiana cheer and dance community through a steering committee led by Louisiana High School Coaches ****** ociation director Jessica Barber.

Day 12 of Cleveland Browns training camp took place Tuesday, August 11. The quarterback battle continued on, with everyone looking more comfortable as practices go on.
1. I Guess There Was Never Much Doubt: One of the biggest positions of debate heading into training camp was the offensive line, specifically from center to right tackle. However, it hasn't ended up being much to debate. Elgton Jenkins has been exclusively at center, and Tytus Howard has stuck to right tackle. Today, head coach Todd Monken indicated that right guard is the only spot still in competition, and that the veteran Teven Jenkins has the upper hand.
2. As for the Backups: One depth chart change caught the eye of the media today: Austin Barber was at left tackle on the second unit, while Dawand Jones was at right tackle.
3. Drill of the Day: Here is a fun drill where the defensive line pass rushes around the edge, but then works back toward a screen to try to dislodge it.
4. Early Interception: QB Deshaun Watson was first up as the quarterback today, and early on, he overthrew a pass that was picked off by CB Tyron Herring.

Gruden cited Frank Gifford as an example of a broadcaster who transitioned from ****** yst to play-by-play announcer, and the former NFL head coach thinks he might be able to do the same.
After learning of Gruden's aspirations, the Tampa Bay Bucs stepped up and granted his wish. This summer, Gruden will join Ronde Barber in the broadcast booth for the team's Week 2 preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs. And while attending Bucs' training camp Thursday morning, Gruden met with reporters about his looming broadcast opportunity.
"I was fired up," Gruden said of the moment he found out he was getting the opportunity to get back to the booth. "I had a lot of fun doing it for nine years. I was very fortunate on Monday Night Football, especially the years with Tirico. We had a lot of fun. We took every game like it was a Super Bowl. Took it very seriously, had a lot of fun. So I enjoy the profession. And at this point in my life, I still study football all the time. I'm still a big fan of the Bucs. I live right down the street. I'm really excited about it."
If he still studies football all the time and treats every ESPN broadcast like the Super Bowl, surely Gruden and Barber are working hard to prepare for their preseason Week 2 opportunity.

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden will attend Thursday morning's training camp practice as he prepares for a return to the broadcast booth.
Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reported Gruden's expected appearance at practice. The visit comes ahead of his ***** ignment as the play-by-play announcer for Tampa Bay's second preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Aug. 22 at Raymond James Stadium.
Gruden will work alongside Buccaneers legend and Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive back Ronde Barber on the WFLA-TV broadcast. WFLA is Tampa's NBC affiliate. The pairing gives the local production two prominent members of the franchise's Super Bowl ***** VII championship team.
Gruden coached the Buccaneers from 2002 through 2008, compiling a 57-55 regular-season record and leading the organization to its first Super Bowl championship during his first year in Tampa. Barber spent his entire 16-year playing career with the Buccaneers and delivered one of the defining moments of that ***** le run with his interception return for a touchdown in the NFC Championship Game.
The preseason ***** ignment will mark Gruden's first time calling an NFL game since leaving ESPN's "Monday Night Football" booth following the 2017 season. He returned to coaching with the Raiders in 2018.

Massachusetts is on the way to giving doctors the final say on whether an abortion should be allowed late in pregnancy, a move expected to affect few cases but that supporters say is needed because hospitals are now turning away women they should be serving.
The state Senate adopted the measure Friday, sending it to Democratic Gov. Maura Healey, who has signed other laws strengthening abortion rights.
Under current Massachusetts law, abortion is legal for the first 24 weeks of pregnancy. It is allowed after that only if a physician using best medical judgment says it is necessary to preserve the life, physical or mental health of the woman, because of a lethal fetal anomaly or diagnosis or because the fetus wouldn't likely survive outside the uterus.
State Rep. Christine Barber said that under that framework, hospitals turned away some women for abortions late in pregnancy, even in a case where a fetus had a stroke and was determined to be unlikely to survive.
The new law would take out the list of specific reasons and say simply that it would be allowed "based on the professional judgment of the physician."

Now that the Denver Broncos are reporting for training camp, fans will likely get a more inside looks at the team's new training facility. While some introductory pictures were released by the team in mid-July, the first interior video of the facility has been shared on Instagram by Kayla Jones, wife of Broncos defensive lineman D.J. Jones.
The video captured several never-before-seen areas of the new building. Some of the new areas shown include an in-house barbershop (complete with an orange and blue striped barber chair), a mini indoor field, shaded table seating on the roof of the building, and a revamped locker room ready for the team.

The $175 million facility, and all its bells and whistles, is a visible sign of the past two seasons of work. The facility was first announced in November 2023 and broke ground in late August 2024. The state-of-the-art campus was funded completely by the Walton-Penner ownership group, and is 30 percent bigger than their old headquarters building, according to the team's website.
The building also is a reminder of the Walton-Penner ownership group's commitment to making the team one of the best in the NFL, both on and off the field. The next big investment in the club will be the team's new stadium, on track to be built at the team's preferred site at Denver's historic Burnham Yard. While finalized plans have not been announced quite yet, the team is committing significant time and energy into the beautification of the area, and community inclusivity. Folks around the continental United States would be hard-pressed to find a 31-year-old NFL free agent still giving back to his hometown high school some 13 years after graduation.
But there sat former Woodlawn defensive back Donovan Wilson Friday afternoon in the Knights' auditorium on Wyngate Boulevard autographing photos and talking with fans, like former Woodlawn coach Jerwin Wilson, while supporters passed out 500 backpacks and others gave free haircuts to youngsters from the surrounding neighborhood.
"I'm just trying to give light to the youth and show some love to where I come from and what I wanted when I was younger," said Wilson, who spent seven seasons with the Cowboys before a separation following last season. "I appreciate being in this position and to be able to do what I'm doing."
Wilson's mother, Michelle Wilson-Johnson, a secretary at Shreveport's Caddo Magnet High School, was responsible for organizing Friday's give-back event. She secured Bos-Man's Barber College to dole out fresh fades, tapers, shape-ups and kid-friendly hair cuts as part of the event. Five barber trainees were on hand and were kept busy with the trimming.
"She's one of the motivations to do what I'm doing, and I appreciate her for that," Wilson said.

Less than a year after Spurlock raced in her second NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle race at IRP, she’ll return to the track, but in a stock car this time.
“To be able to know that I raced over there on the drag strip and now I'm over here on the circle track,” Spurlock told IndyStar, “that means so much to me because I did not know that this would happen so fast within a year’s time.”
Most of Spurlock’s experience before this year came in motorcycle drag racing. She has also raced arena carts and drove in Skip Barber’s Formula 4 series in 2023.

Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry has received mostly positive reviews for the work he did in the offseason to address the team's aging and injured offensive line.
Sure, there have been some grumblings that Berry may have overpaid in free agency, most notably guard Zion Johnson, but no one can say that Berry did not see a need and did what he could to fix it.
Teams have to look past just the upcoming season, of course, which is why Berry selected Spencer Fano, Austin Barber, and Parker Brailsford in the 2026 NFL Draft. Fano is expected to hold down the left tackle position for the next decade or so, Barber looks to have a future at either guard or tackle, and Brailsford will be looking to earn the starter's role at center this summer.
With the line mostly set for the next year or two, now could be a time to bring in a developmental player, one who has some skills but could use some polishing and some quality coaching from the likes of offensive line coach George Warhop.
A player like Dodji Dahoue, who is looking for a team after not sticking with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent.

Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl officials are celebrating 50 years of competition this year and they're doing it in a big way.
The organization is releasing the top 50 all-time players in I-Bowl history and they're releasing them in five-player increments. The list was voted on by a local panel of media members, including the Shreveport Times, and I-Bowl representatives.
The latest group of Nos. 36-40 on the all-time list include Bossier High/Louisiana Tech standout Weldon Brown and one of the most recognizable names to play in the I-Bowl in Virginia's Tiki Barber.

Barber might be one of the biggest household names on the all-time list, but before turning himself into the 14th greatest New York Giant of all-time, he played in the 1994 I-Bowl against TCU. He had three carries for 18 yards, three receptions for 2 yards and an 18-yard kickoff return. Barber had a highly successful college career for the Cavaliers, as evidenced by his No. 21 jersey being retired by Virginia, his selection to the ACC's 50th Anniversary Team, and his induction into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in 2011. Barber was named ACC Player of the Year in 1996 after rushing for 1,360 yards and 14 touchdowns (TDs). Drafted in the second round of the 1997 NFL Draft, he turned himself into the Giants' all-time leading rusher — rushing for 10,449 yards in his career. He was named first-team All-Pro in 2005 when he rushed for 1,860 yards and nine TDs, while also adding 54 receptions for 530 yards. Harrington became the fourth golfer to defend his U.S. Senior Open ****** le, shooting a final-round 66 to win by four shots at Scioto Country Club.
The 54-year-old Irishman also joined Miller Barber as the only three-time winners in the tournament's 46-year history.
"I like creating records, and to be part of that is a big deal. It just shows how hard it is," Harrington said after capturing his fourth senior major. "I'm seeing guys coming along, and I'm kind of realizing there is only a window to win these tournaments. They have told me and other players that it's kind of up to about 56-57, then it starts going downhill quickly.

Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry delivered on his promise to make a “heavy investment” in the offense during the recently completed off-season.
Berry rebuilt the entire offensive line, highlighted by first-round selection Spencer Fano at left tackle, along with veteran additions Tytus Howard, Elgton Jenkins, and Zion Johnson. And, for good measure, they added tackle Austin Barber and center Parker Brailsford later in the draft.

They may not be fully unlocked until Berry solves the quarterback position in 2027 (or later, since this is still the Browns), but, overall, it looks like the Browns are on track.
While the offense appears to be on the upswing, it is fair to ponder who will still be on the roster when the Browns pull up stakes and move to their new stadium in Brook Park for the start of the 2029 season.

More than 300 people have been arrested across the UK, including 57 migrants who had crossed the Channel by boat, as part of a police crackdown on illegal trade and organised immigration crime.
The National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) said more than £1m cash was seized during the five-day operation between June 15 and June 20.
Illegal tobacco, vapes and cigarettes with a street value of more than £700,000 were also seized as well as cars, drugs and e-bikes.
The operation centred on tackling crime at premises that included barber shops, vape shops, car washes, food production and nail salons - with the NPCC saying such businesses are often targeted by criminal gangs as they "provide opportunities to conceal illegal working, to exploit vulnerable migrants, and to launder proceeds of crime".

Brady is probably the safest in the photo considering he is widely regarded as the greatest quarterback of all time. It's hard to beat seven Super Bowl rings, with championships with two different franchises.

WORCESTER — Shortly after 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Alex Karaban got his haircut at FG Barber Studio in Milford.
Nearly 13 hours later, the Southborough resident was selected No. 29 overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2026 NBA Draft. Karaban was then traded to the Sacramento Kings for the No. 34 overall pick and a future second-round selection according to ESPN Senior NBA insider Shams Charania.
"It's going to be super exciting," Karaban told the Boston Herald before being drafted. "All the work, all the sacrifices, just all the hours, days, months, whatever it is, just all that time built up to reach my dream of playing in the NBA. It's going to be special."
As a ninth grader at Algonquin Regional, Karaban averaged 22.4 points, 8 rebounds and 3 ****** ists to lead his team to the Division 1 Central final in his lone season playing high school hoops in Northborough.
"Alex is one-of-a-kind," former Algonquin basketball coach Brian Doherty told the T&G in 2023. "He's smart, intelligent and knows the game of basketball so well, and he's such a great kid. He's on the next level."

Chizmar wouldn't call herself a hardcore NASCAR fan; she will tune into races throughout the year, like most casual fans, sticking around for a few laps and periodically checking in on the race, but she doesn't watch every race.
