Former Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden picked Cincinnati to beat Tampa Bay in Week 1, prompting brother Jon Gruden to accuse him of bias.
During a segment posted by Jon Gruden on X, the brothers went back and forth over Sunday's matchup.
Jon highlighted several of Tampa Bay's young defenders, including Josiah Trotter, Keionte Scott and Rueben Bain Jr., before Jay identified a weakness he believes Cincinnati can exploit.
"You got no corners. I'm taking the Bengals," Jay said.
It's Week 1 and we already have a little bias from my brother... give me Tampa to beat the Bengals!!

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden made his return to the broadcast booth on Saturday night. The Buccaneers hosted the Kansas City Chiefs in a preseason matchup, with Gruden joining the booth for the home team's WFLA-TV broadcast.
The former football coach and longtime media personality's return to a broadcast booth was met with widespread approval over the weekend.
Gruden spent nearly a decade in ESPN's Monday Night Football booth and became one of the network's most recognizable and popular football broadcasters. His latest appearance represented his first major live booth ****** ignment since leaving ESPN's MNF after the 2017 season to return to the sidelines as the Oakland Raiders' head coach.
NFL fans quickly embraced Gruden's return to the commentary booth during the Bucs-Chiefs preseason broadcast.
"Jon Gruden needs to get back in the booth," one fan wrote.

Jon Gruden is back in the broadcast booth.
The former NFL head coach and "Monday Night Football" **** yst became a fan favorite for quirky personality and unapologetic love of football. While Gruden is no longer on the sidelines, he did make a one night cameo appearance in the broadcast booth for a Tampa Bay Buccaneers preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Gruden was cast as the play-by-play announcer alongside Bucs' legend Ronde Barber, which represented a departure from his traditional role as an **** yst.
It marked Gruden's first game on the mic since Jan. 6, 2018, when the Tennessee **** ans defeated the Chiefs in the wild-card round.
After that game, the broadcaster would exchange the mic for a spot back on the then-Oakland Raiders sideline as the team's head coach. Gruden eventually resigned from his post in 2021 after some disparaging emails he wrote came to light. During that time, he was also removed from the Buccaneers' Ring of Honor. He has since been reinstated.

The lawsuit filed by Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores against the NFL and various teams has finally moved forward (as to several of the pending claims) to the discovery process. Which gives Flores's lawyers a certain degree of latitude to seek information that could help prove one or more of his claims.
As noted by Daniel Kaplan, Flores has asked the NFL to produce documents relating to the Jon Gruden and Colin Kaepernick cases. The NFL is resisting.
"Requests concerning Colin Kaepernick and Jon Gruden, along with other requests raised by Flores at the August 14 conference, are likewise not relevant or discoverable," the NFL's outside counsel wrote to the court, per Kaplan.
On the surface, there's no connection to the Flores cases. To the extent, however, that his claim against the Texans arises from the argument that he wasn't hired to coach the team in retaliation for his recent filing of a race discrimination lawsuit against the NFL, the Dolphins, the Giants, and the Broncos, the Kaepernick case becomes arguably relevant.
Like Kaepernick, Flores claims he was essentially blackballed via collusion of the franchises. While Flores has found employment as an ******* istant with the Steelers and Vikings, Flores has consistently been overlooked for head-coaching jobs.

Former Raiders coach Jon Gruden wanted his claims against the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell to be resolved in court. Gruden won. And now he has to fully comply with the court's rules.
The presiding judge suggested on Monday that Gruden has not done so sufficiently.
"I remain concerned with Gruden's, Gruden's side's delays and lack of cooperation, lack of compliance with the rules," district judge Joe Hardy said, via **** le Brigham of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
The NFL had complained that Gruden was dragging his feet in the discovery process **** ociated with his lawsuit alleging that the NFL deliberately leaked otherwise confidential emails in an effort to force him out as the Raiders' head coach in October 2021.
"No explanation was proffered by Gruden's side that would address the court's concern about the delays, particularly in light of months ago, when I said, in Gruden's favor and against the NFL's position, we're going forward," Judge Hardy said. "Gruden understandably at least represented to me that their side wanted to proceed expeditiously and has done the opposite of that."

As Jon Gruden continues trying to find his path back to the NFL, his latest step is a one-game cameo as a play-by-play voice for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Earlier this summer, Gruden revealed he has play-by-play ambitions after already working as a lead NFL ****** yst for nine years on Monday Night Football. Gruden cited Frank Gifford as an example of a broadcaster who transitioned from ****** yst to play-by-play announcer, and the former NFL head coach thinks he might be able to do the same.
After learning of Gruden's aspirations, the Tampa Bay Bucs stepped up and granted his wish. This summer, Gruden will join Ronde Barber in the broadcast booth for the team's Week 2 preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs. And while attending Bucs' training camp Thursday morning, Gruden met with reporters about his looming broadcast opportunity.
"I was fired up," Gruden said of the moment he found out he was getting the opportunity to get back to the booth. "I had a lot of fun doing it for nine years. I was very fortunate on Monday Night Football, especially the years with Tirico. We had a lot of fun. We took every game like it was a Super Bowl. Took it very seriously, had a lot of fun. So I enjoy the profession. And at this point in my life, I still study football all the time. I'm still a big fan of the Bucs. I live right down the street. I'm really excited about it."
If he still studies football all the time and treats every ESPN broadcast like the Super Bowl, surely Gruden and Barber are working hard to prepare for their preseason Week 2 opportunity.

Since Tom Brady joined the media, he has somewhat surprisingly become one of NFL media's most fervent detractors of modern quarterback play.
Brady has repeatedly argued that the developmental system and hotshot play-callers have left QBs unable to read defenses and dictate plays, reducing the position to one based more on athleticism and execution than intelligence. This line of thinking has also cropped up in commentary from other luminaries of Brady's generation, including Jon Gruden and Peyton Manning.
It can sometimes seem a little unfair, and apparently Yahoo's Nate Tice agrees.
Tice, who played quarterback at Wisconsin and is the son of longtime NFL offensive tactician Mike Tice, said in an appearance this week on The Domonique Foxworth Show that Brady's perspective on today's QBs "does these guys a disservice."
"I kind of really get mad a little bit about some of these old coaches and old players, Gruden, Tom Brady, who I respect a ton, and they just act like the guys today can't even walk and chew gum at the same time," Tice said. "And that really frustrates me because I feel like it does these guys a disservice."

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden will attend Thursday morning's training camp practice as he prepares for a return to the broadcast booth.
Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reported Gruden's expected appearance at practice. The visit comes ahead of his ***** ignment as the play-by-play announcer for Tampa Bay's second preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Aug. 22 at Raymond James Stadium.
Gruden will work alongside Buccaneers legend and Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive back Ronde Barber on the WFLA-TV broadcast. WFLA is Tampa's NBC affiliate. The pairing gives the local production two prominent members of the franchise's Super Bowl ***** VII championship team.
Gruden coached the Buccaneers from 2002 through 2008, compiling a 57-55 regular-season record and leading the organization to its first Super Bowl championship during his first year in Tampa. Barber spent his entire 16-year playing career with the Buccaneers and delivered one of the defining moments of that ***** le run with his interception return for a touchdown in the NFC Championship Game.
The preseason ***** ignment will mark Gruden's first time calling an NFL game since leaving ESPN's "Monday Night Football" booth following the 2017 season. He returned to coaching with the Raiders in 2018.

The NFL cannot resist quarterback drama. Aaron Rodgers. Dak Prescott. Deshaun Watson. Jay Cutler. The list is endless. Which is why Baker Mayfield's contract dispute has swallowed almost every conversation surrounding Tampa Bay in recent days.
That is understandable. It is also hiding the best development at Buccaneers training camp.
Mayfield entered the final year of his three-year, $100 million contract without an extension, then publicly said he felt "disrespected" and "undervalued" after negotiations failed. His $33.3 million annual salary ranks 16th among NFL quarterbacks, and talks are now expected to wait until after the season.

Jon Gruden is backing the Denver Broncos going into the 2026 NFL season.
During an appearance on "Wake Up Barstool," Gruden picked the Broncos to win the AFC West this fall.
"I'm gonna pick Denver, just because of the continuity — head coach, quarterback. Almost all of their starters are back on both sides of the ball, and they're going to get a jolt from [Jaylen] Waddle."
Behind the Broncos, Gruden projected the Los Angeles Chargers to finish second in the AFC West and the Kansas City Chiefs to finish third. "I think all three of those teams can be playoff teams," he said.
As for the Las Vegas Raiders, Gruden expects his old team to improve but not leapfrog the "very tough" teams in their division with established coaches and quarterbacks.

Out-of-nowhere news emerged earlier on Tuesday that former NFL head coach and Monday Night Football color commentator Jon Gruden wants to do play-by-play broadcasting.
As first reported by JoeBucsFan.com, Gruden appeared on the Ira Kaufman Podcast and explained his desire to do play-by-play announcing.
“I was a broadcaster for nine years; ******* ’s bells,” Gruden said on the Ira Kaufman Podcast. “I want to be play-by-play. You know, Frank Gifford, he transitioned into the play-by-play role. I would like to transition. I had nine years of watching these guys — [Mike] Tirico. And I’d like to give that a shot, man.”
The JoeBucsFan article added, “Gruden is not joking about a new broadcast role. Expect a more formal announcement on that front soon.”
Well, a more formal announcement may still be to come, but Tampa Bay Buccaneers reporter Ira Kaufman — who writes for JoeBucsFan — added more details in an appearance on Tampa Bay radio’s 95.7 WMAE on Tuesday.

Former Detroit Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde was let go by the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday.
Lalonde and former University of Michigan defenseman Mike Van Ryn were replaced as **** istant coaches by former Red Wings forward Daniel Alfredsson, ex-Northern Michgan defenseman Brad Werenka and former Oakland Grizzlies coach John Gruden.
Lalonde joined Craig Berube's coaching staff in June of 2025, a little over five months after he was fired in Detroit. Berube was replaced last month by Jim Hiller, a former Red Wings defenseman and **** istant coach.
Hired by the Red Wings at the start of the 2022-23 season, Lalonde went 89-86-23 in two seasons, missing the playoffs and replaced by Todd McLellan on Dec. 26, 2024.
Lalonde was also an **** istant coach for Jon Cooper and the Tampa Bay Lightning, helping them win back-to-back Stanley Cup championships in 2020 and 2021.

The Toronto Maple Leafs made one of the offseason’s most surprising coaching moves by hiring Ottawa Senators icon Daniel Alfredsson as ******* ociate head coach. The announcement immediately led to strong reactions across the NHL, especially from fans who never expected one of Ottawa’s greatest players to join its biggest rival.
Toronto confirmed the additions on social media, writing, “John Gruden, Daniel Alfredsson and Brad Werenka have been named to our coaching staff.”
Alfredsson arrives after spending the past three seasons as an ******* istant coach with the Senators. Before that, he worked in player development with the organization that defined his playing career.
Senators owner Michael Andlauer said, “While I wish he wasn’t joining an arch-rival, Alfie is forever an Ottawa Senator and the door will always be open for his return.”

TORONTO (AP) — Daniel Alfredsson, once public enemy No. 1 in Toronto as captain of the Ottawa Senators, is leaving Canada's capital to join the Maple Leafs as an ****** ociate coach.
The Maple Leafs announced the move Tuesday, saying John Gruden and Brad Werenka also are joining coach Jim Hiller’s staff as ****** istants.
Alfredsson, 53, spent the last three seasons as an ****** istant in Ottawa after a Hall of Fame playing career spent mostly with the Senators.
The Swedish winger was a prominent figure in the “Battle of Ontario” between the Maple Leafs and Senators, which included four playoff showdowns between 2000 and 2004.
Senators owner Michael Andlauer in a statement said that while he wished Alfredsson were not joining a rival organization, the door would always be open for a return.

Jay Gruden should go into NFL TV commentary.
Gruden, the former Washington Redskins head coach (2014-2019), was on Team 980 on Tuesday with host Kevin Sheehan on the "Kevin Sheehan Show."
Gruden doesn't hold back; he has a sense of humor, and he has nothing to lose when speaking his mind. Of course, the top conversation surrounding the Commanders right now centers around San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. Does Gruden think Washington should pursue Aiyuk when the 49ers move on from him?
Here are some good quotes from Gruden's Tuesday conversation with Sheehan.
"He (Brandon Aiyuk) needs to quiet down; he needs to get himself reinstated. He needs to do things the right way. Report to the 49ers and hopefully they release him, and he becomes available. I mean, that is the only option that he has."

One of the quickest ways for young NFL players to improve is by learning from people who have already experienced success at the highest level. Baltimore Ravens safety Malaki Starks appears to understand that as well as anyone.
The former first-round draft pick is entering a pivotal second season after showing flashes throughout his rookie campaign. With training camp approaching, he is looking for every possible advantage, including reconnecting with a former Super Bowl-winning head coach who helped prepare him for the NFL Draft.
That coach is Jon Gruden. Speaking recently with The Athletic's Jeff Zrebiec, Starks revealed that Gruden remains a trusted resource, and Starks plans to spend more time with Gruden before the season begins.
"I'm going to get back with Jon Gruden... I trained with him before the draft, so I'm going to get back with him and pick his brain a little bit... I trained with him for the draft. He prepped me for the draft, and we've been really cool ever since. Just to learn from a guy like him and have him as a resource, I think it will be huge."
At first glance, Gruden may seem like an unusual mentor for a young safety. He is more so known for his offensive acumen, but that may be the point, another perspective. That may be exactly what makes him such a valuable resource for Starks.

For Wednesday’s #PFTPM , a viewer from the U.K. asked a question regarding three significant legal issues the NFL is facing. Between the Jon Gruden case, the Brian Flores case, and the Sunday Ticket case, which one will have a new development first?
The most likely case to move forward is the Sunday Ticket litigation.
The Gruden and Flores lawsuits have entered the discovery phase, which will feature information-gathering activities spanning months. The Sunday Ticket case is pending on appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
The issues have been briefed. The oral argument has occurred. A ruling could come at literally any time.
And the ruling could be very significant. Two years ago, a jury found that the NFL violated the antitrust laws through the pricing of Sunday Ticket. The league's goal was to price it at a level that discouraged customers from buying it, instead watching whatever games were available in their local markets on CBS and Fox.

NFL Makes Final Decision on Appeal in Jon Gruden Lawsuit

The Las Vegas Raiders are once again starting from scratch when it comes to their head coach, as they have hired former Seattle Seahawks‘ offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak to come in and take over their team. Of course, Raiders fans will remember that, for a point in time, it seemed like they had found their long-term head coach in Jon Gruden, only for him to resign in 2021.
An email controversy that implicated Gruden resulted in him essentially being forced out of his job with Las Vegas, and since then, the team has struggled to fi
