Liverpool want a winger, the deadline is close, and Brighton know it. That is the story around Yankuba Minteh.
The 22-year-old has emerged as a serious target, with Liverpool having already seen two bids rejected. Brighton are understood to value Minteh at around £80 million, a figure that reflects market conditions as much as the player himself. Brighton face Norwegian side Tromso in the second leg of their Conference League play-off tie on Thursday following a goalless draw 200 miles north of the Arctic Circle last week.
Seagull boss Fabian Hurzeler has a big decision to make on whether he should start a strong team just three days before his side play away at Chelsea. His side are huge favourites to make it through to the League Phase of the competition but won't want to be on the end of an embarrassing upset in their search for a first major trophy in the club's history.
Both former Seagulls players Warren Aspinall and Guy **** ers believe Hurzeler should go strong against their Norwegian counterparts.
Speaking on the Albion Unlimited podcast, Aspinall said: "Get the job done and put the strongest side out. See if we can get a few goals in the first half then take players off. Man for man we're better than them. As a team, we're better than them but never underestimate them because they should've won that game at home.

Former Celtic midfielder Matt O'Riley is attracting interest from French Ligue 1 side Lyon, after falling out of favour at EPL side Brighton and Hove Albion.
The 25 year old Danish international was recalled by seagulls boss Fabian Hurzeler from a loan spell with Lyon's domestic rivals Marseille last February, but has struggled to get regular game time in England's south coast.
The former MK Dons midfielder missed a chunk of pre-season due to Illness, and was omitted from the German's squad for Sunday's EPL opener at the Amex Stadium which saw Brighton hammer Aston Villa 4-0 to get their campaign off to an absolute flyer.
Lyon are one of several European clubs said to be interested in O'Riley who left Celtic for the Seagulls in August 2024 for a fee believed to be £25 million.
The former Fulham youngster has three years remaining on his contract at the Amex but due to ongoing interest, there's a strong chance the 25 year old won't be a Brighton player on 1st September – the English transfer deadline day.

And "frustrating" is really an understatement. Brighton & Hove Albion were already 4-0 up after just 30 minutes against the reigning Europa League winners and last season's fourth-placed side, Aston Villa.
Fabian Hürzeler's Seagulls were ruthless. After an early own goal by Lindelöf, De Cuyper added another in the 18th minute. Homegrown talent Hinshelwood then piled on two more with a quickfire brace after half an hour.
As if that wasn't already bitter enough, the team from Birmingham then reduced themselves to ten men. João Gomes was shown a red card for violent conduct.
After Unai Emery's side recently put in a good showing against PSG in the Super Cup, this is a massive blow to start the season. Perhaps the departures of three key starters — Youri Tielemans (move to Man United), Lucas Digne (move to PSG), and Morgan Rogers (move to Chelsea) — will be felt more than initially thought after all.

Brighton scored all of their goals from set pieces as they fought back from 2-0 down to clinch a 4-3 win against Strasbourg to wrap up their week-long training camp in Austria.
The Ligue 1 side went two goals up inside the first 14 minutes thanks to Martial Godo and Samuel Amo-Ameyaw, before the Seagulls hit back with two goals in six minutes.

German football journalist Constantin Eckner says he rates Matthias Jaissle, who is expected to replace Eddie Howe at Newcastle, "very highly".
Jaissle joined Al-Ahli in 2023 and led the Saudi club to back-to-back AFC Champions League ****** les in 2024-25 and 2025-26.
"He might be the right man for the job," said Eckner on BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast. "There are a couple of uncertainties regarding Newcastle's transfers this summer, so we don't know how the team will look when the Premier League starts or once deadline day has passed.
"But I rate Matthias Jaissle very highly. His football is still very intensity-based, but he shows a lot of flexibility.

Brighton have completed the signing of Croatian defender Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham for an initial club record £46 million.
The 19-year-old, who played against England at this summer’s World Cup, has agreed a five-year contract with the Seagulls, with an option for a further 12 months. Spurs could receive an additional £4m in add-on fees, taking the overall fee to £50 million, and the deal includes a 20 per cent sell-on clause.
Vuskovic joined Tottenham from Hajduk Split in 2025 and spent last season on loan at German club Hamburg. The centre-back, who made no competitive appearances for Spurs, was eager for first-team football and favoured a permanent move over another loan.

Having been the subject of much speculation in recent months, Saïd El Mala now looks likely to remain at 1. FC Köln, as a move to England has failed to materialise so far.
Brighton & Hove Albion were linked with the winger earlier this summer, but cooled their interest after Köln made it clear they would not lower their €50 million asking price. Nevertheless, the Seagulls do not appear to have completely abandoned their pursuit of El Mala.
According to Sport Bild, Brighton head coach Fabian Hürzeler wants to make one “final attempt” to convince Saïd El Mala to join the Premier League club.

He was admired before, he is admired now, and Brighton know exactly how to monetise admiration.
United "did approach the Seagulls for the 22-year-old last summer, only to be put off by their £100m price tag". That number tells you everything. Brighton saw demand, saw upside and priced accordingly. It also underlines the problem for United. If the player is still viewed internally as the "new Casemiro", then hesitation comes with a cost. Once a club decide a midfielder can anchor the side for years, the fee rarely gets smaller.
There is another important detail in the report, "offers under £70m are unlikely to be considered", with the further claim that Baleba "only wants United". Useful, if true. Helpful, certainly. Decisive, not remotely. Brighton have no reason to rush and no reason to discount heavily, especially after Baleba "still went on to feature regularly for Fabio Hurzeler's team last term".
If Baleba looks expensive, Alex Scott does too. United are "set to explore a move for Bournemouth star Alex Scott after seeing Fernandes opt for a £85m switch to Tottenham". Again, the market is clear. Bournemouth value him at around £80m, and they are not alone in admiring him. The report names **** nal, Manchester City, Tottenham and Chelsea as clubs to watch.
