On September 3, Genesco (NYSE:GCO) reported a second quarter that should not have worked on paper. Revenue fell 3% to $530 million, yet the company nearly halved its adjusted operating loss and raised full-year earnings guidance to the top end of its range. That combination, shrinking sales alongside expanding profit, is the footwear-first strategy showing up in real numbers. Every one of the company's three brands beat internal expectations, and management says the toughest sales pressure ahead is coming from a deliberate choice rather than a weakening business.
Journeys, the company's teen-focused chain, delivered its eighth consecutive quarter of positive comparable sales, up 2%, even while lapping strong growth from a year earlier. The more interesting story sits underneath that number. The Journeys 4.0 store format, a redesigned concept built around a more elevated ***** ortment, is generating a sales lift of 25% or more wherever it opens, and the company expects roughly 180 locations, about a fifth of its fleet, running that format by year-end. That rollout, combined with fleet optimization and more efficient use of selling staff, handed Journeys 180 basis points of expense leverage in the quarter. Comparable sales kept accelerating into August, marking Journeys' ninth straight month of positive comps and a mid-single-digit gain during the back-to-school peak.
Johnston & Murphy is running its own streak, with comparable sales up 4% in its third consecutive positive quarter, helped by a newly extended, multiyear partnership with Peyton Manning and a broader shift in menswear toward more refined, put-together dressing. Companywide, adjusted gross margin expanded 140 basis points to 47.2%, and the adjusted operating loss narrowed to $8 million from $14 million a year ago. Genesco also collected $22.5 million in tariff refunds during the quarter and cut total debt to $15.8 million from $71 million a year earlier, giving a new CFO and a new Schuh president a far healthier balance sheet to work with as they settle into their roles.
The drag comes almost entirely from Schuh, Genesco's UK chain, where comparable sales fell 9% as management deliberately pulled back on discounting to protect margin. Executives were blunt about the cost of that choice. CEO Mimi Vaughn said "the UK consumer market remains challenged and price sensitive," and the Schuh turnaround is expected to take longer than the one already underway at Journeys. That pressure is now baked into guidance. Full-year total sales are expected to fall about 2%, worse than the prior forecast of down 1% to flat, with management incorporating more back-half sales pressure than it originally planned for given how promotional the UK footwear market has become.

The event forms part of the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs, bringing motorsport fans to the venue in the St. Louis area. In recent years, the Madison track has hosted several major NASCAR events featuring close photo-finishes.

Ahead of the race, professional driver Ross Chastain made a promotional appearance at Ballpark Village. Chastain, a champion racer participating in Sunday's event, served as a celebrity bartender pouring Busch Light for fans.

"They put a party on here as a racer. I just want people to come watch us. We don't get to do all this unless people are watching us in the grandstands and watching us at home on TV or listening on the radio," Chastain said. The bitter saga between Francis Ngannou and Dana White continues nearly four years after the Cameroonian parted ways with the UFC. For the unversed, Ngannou left the promotion in January 2023 after fighting out his contract, with negotiations breaking down over his desire to pursue boxing and other contractual demands.
White has repeatedly claimed that Ngannou is not a nice person to deal with and that he would never do business with him. Now, he has admitted that he was rooting against Ngannou when the heavyweight champion defended his ****** le against Ciryl Gane at UFC 270.

Dana White hasn't kept his hate for Francis Ngannou private.
Once praising him as the baddest man on the planet, White quickly rescinded those comments and had a complete change of heart toward the Cameroonian. Both men fail to hide their hatred for the other, and rumors surfaced late last year of a previous physical altercation between the two, in which the former UFC heavyweight champion put his hands on the boss. Since then, their bitter feud has grown to an unprecedented extent, making it one of the most intense sagas between fighter and employer in company history.
Dana White having problems with a fighter isn't a new occurrence. He has famously feuded with many of his top stars over the years, but the Francis Ngannou problems run deep. According to White, Ngannou is blacklisted. He even sees the ***** an on the same level as Oscar de la Hoya, a man he has been at odds with for close to a decade.
Discussing his disdain for Ngannou, White turned to problems the fighter has with other promotions, hinting at his underwhelming time competing for the PFL.

Eli Lilly (LLY) stock has gained about 56% over the past year, moving from $722.65 to $1,123.91. Before that run the company was doing something strange. It was deliberately selling less medicine than people wanted to buy, and it kept saying so out loud.
In early February 2025 the CEO said the capacity Lilly had already built was not enough to meet global demand, and that the company was still gating promotion and gating launches around the world. That is a company telling you its reported revenue understates what its products could sell.
The build was landing. Lilly produced more than 1.6 times as many salable incretin doses in the first half of 2025 as it had made in the first half of 2024. The rationed business was already lucrative: trailing-twelve-month operating margin as of fiscal Q2 2025 ran at 42.1%, against its own three-year average of 32.7%. A business earning that much with the tap half closed has an obvious next chapter.
Four weeks before the run began, the CFO was specific about where. Commercial activity behind the recent launches in Brazil, China, India, and Mexico was being kept deliberately measured, so that demand would not outrun supply.
Then look at where the growth landed a year later. In the second quarter of 2026, China revenue grew 93% in constant currency, and rest-of-world revenue grew 136% in constant currency, driven by Mounjaro, primarily in Latin America and Asia. China is on both lists; Latin America and Asia cover the rest. The volume was waiting.

DETROIT — Claressa Shields wants her next fight to be her biggest one.
And she wants it to be on the biggest stage yet.
Representatives for Shields, the undisputed "GWOAT" of boxing who remains undefeated as a professional, have had recent negotiations to stage her next bout at downtown Detroit's Ford Field. Shields would be the first female boxer ever to headline a stadium card in the United States. Promoters believe the fight could draw 50,000 fans.
"We just feel like it's the right time to make history again, to break another glass ceiling," Dmitriy Salita, of Salita Promotions, told The Detroit News on Thursday.

DETROIT — The Motor City Cruise — the G League affiliate of the Detroit Pistons — announced on Thursday the hiring of Steve Scalzi as their new head coach. Scalzi will replace Jamelle McMillan at the start of the 2026-27 season, becoming the third head coach in the franchise's history.

Anticipation is quickly rising for Judge's return after the longest injury of his storied career. Judge last played on May 31, and was placed on the injured list five days later. Judge is returning to major league play without any type of minor-league rehabilitation ****** ignment.
Notably, that Yankees-Rockies game previously saw a wild rise and fall in resale pricing, unrelated to Judge and his injury. COMO, Italy (AP) — Italian soccer club Como has given forward Roberta Picchi a contract extension in what it called a "continued commitment" after she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Picchi's diagnosis came after she helped Como win promotion to the top tier of Italian women's soccer for the first time last season and weeks before its first women's Serie A game.
"Roberta will now begin her treatment, supported throughout by the club's medical team, who will work closely with the specialists responsible for her care," Como said in a statement on Monday.
"Everyone at Como 1907 is alongside Roberta and will give her and her family all the support they need during the months ahead. As part of that continued commitment, the club has also renewed Roberta's contract until the end of the 2027/28 season."
Como added, "At this time, we ask that Roberta's privacy is respected as she focuses on her treatment and recovery."

Longtime mixed martial arts reporter John Morgan shared an email he received from the UFCregarding the latest round of ranking updates.

"Dear Panelists, Michael Page has been removed from rankingseligibility effective immediately," the email read. "If you rankedhim in your middleweight division already, we ask that you pleasere-rank that division to make sure you have 15 athletes."

This comes after Page himself acknowledged that he may not beoffered another UFC contract after another lackluster decisionwin.

"They weren't happy with me before; they're not gonna be happy withme now," Page said following the fight. "If I put myself in theirshoes, it's like, same thing. 'We can sign him again, but are wegonna see much more?'"

Page joined the UFC in 2024 and has gone 5-1 inside the Octagon,with his only defeat coming against IanGarry.

Valentina Shevchenko has suffered an injury that could keep her out for up to a year, forcing the UFC to strip her of the women's flyweight **** le. According to Telegram Ushatayka, Fedotov revealed that "Bullet" was originally scheduled to face Silva at UFC 332. However, ligament damage to her shoulder and back forced the Kyrgyzstani fighter to withdraw.

VadimNemkov will defend his Professional Fighters League heavyweight championship againstSergeyBilostenniy in November.

The promotion recently announced that former Bellatorchamp Nemkov (20-2) will meet the No. 3-ranked Bilostenniy (15-4)in the main event of PFL Dubai on Nov. 14 at Coca-Cola Arena.
Nemkov, a protégé of FedorEmelianenko, moved up to heavyweight in 2024 and captured PFLgold last December.

Bilostenniy is 4-1 in the PFL and has earned notable finishes overKarlWilliams, TyrellFortune and former PFL champion RenanFerreira. Like Nemkov, he trains under the Team Fedor bannerand has previously shared training camps with the champion.

This marks the first PFL main event in Dubai since the promotion'smerger with Most Valuable Promotions.

For the three months ended 1 August 2026, Nashville-based footwear retailer Genesco recorded a 3% decline in net sales to $530m.
Genesco attributed this decline to store closures, reduced licensed sales, fewer online discounts at Schuh and negative currency effects. Among the company's brands, Johnston & Murphy posted a 5% sales increase, and sales at Journeys rose 2%.
Overall, same-store sales grew by 1%, with expanded locations partially offsetting the decline in other areas.
By the end of the quarter, Genesco's store count had fallen to 1,186 from 1,253 a year prior, representing a 5% reduction in total retail **** e.
Despite lower sales volumes, the company also reported that adjusted gross margin improved to 47.2% from 45.8% a year earlier, citing reduced promotional activity and a stronger focus on full-price sales at Schuh as contributing factors.
