The NFLPA's P.R. push for grass fields should focus less on making a broad-brush effort to shame the owners into choosing a better surface and more on getting specific teams to flip. That effort, as previously explained, should start with the Seahawks, who are in the process of getting a new owner.
On Tuesday, a pair of Seattle veterans made the case for grass during training-camp press conferences.
Defensive lineman Leonard Williams was asked whether seeing temporary grass at Lumen Field for the World Cup made him wish the grass would remain permanently.
"For sure," Williams told reporters, "I think the whole NFL felt that way. We obviously prefer to be on grass. It's less impact, better on the body. I understand there's a lot of things that go into having grass in the stadium that I don't fully understand yet, but if it was up to a player and it just came down to grass or turf, we obviously prefer grass."
Receiver Cooper Kupp was initially more concise. "That would be sweet," he said with a laugh.

Aaron Rodgers has officially ended the speculation. He stated there is "zero debate" regarding his future. The four-time MVP confirmed 2026 will be his last season. This news arrives as he reports for his 22nd NFL training camp. Fans can stop guessing about his next move. The decision is final and clear. Rodgers wants to play his final year with freedom.
Rodgers spoke after a conditioning test in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. He echoed a sentiment he shared back in May. He admitted he thought last year might be his finale. Then head coach Mike McCarthy got hired by the Steelers. Rodgers discussed the situation with his wife. She told him he could play one more year. The pieces finally came together for this reunion. Rodgers dismissed any idea of changing his mind later. He shook his head firmly when asked about returning. "No," the veteran quarterback said. "Zero debate. Zero."
Not everyone agrees that the decision is permanent. Wide receiver DK Metcalf offered a different perspective to local media. He refused to rule out another year for Rodgers. Metcalf noted that players often speak at the start of a year. They do not know how the season will unfold. He suggested Rodgers might not even get hit this year. If that happens, he could say "let's go out there and do another one." Metcalf believes this mindset puts a weight off Rodgers' back. The quarterback is playing free and enjoying time with close friends. Yet Rodgers remains firm on his timeline. He is not leaving the door open for a 2027 campaign.
This situation marks a significant reunion for Rodgers and McCarthy. The head coach previously coached Rodgers for 13 seasons in Green Bay. That partnership began in 2005 during Rodgers' second NFL season. Now they work together again in Pittsburgh. The context of their history adds weight to this final chapter. Rodgers values the chance to close his career with his old coach. This specific dynamic likely influenced his decision to stay for one more year. The team environment feels right for a final run.
Rodgers made the right call by locking in this timeline. Uncertainty drains energy from a player's performance. Knowing the end date allows him to focus entirely on winning. He does not need to worry about contract extensions or future plans. This clarity helps him play with the freedom Metcalf described. The pressure of the "what if" scenario is gone. It is time to enjoy the game without looking ahead. His confidence in this decision shows his maturity as an athlete.

Jason Sudeikis was a proud father as he stepped out with his two children, 12-year-old Otis and nine-year-old Daisy, at the Los Angeles premiere of his hit TV show, Ted Lasso, on July 27.
The Emmy winner looked dapper in a navy suit at the season four premiere, paired with a patterned gray ****** on-up shirt and a graphic tie. He was joined by Otis, who wore a white Supreme tee, and Daisy, who rocked a white dress and a denim jacket.
Otis and Daisy made their red carpet debut on Monday (WireImage)
Otis and Daisy enjoyed a sweet moment with their dad in what was the duo's first-ever red carpet appearance. After Jason tried to shield their eyes from the blazing Californian sun to no avail, his kids then reached up to try the same with him, laughing as they went.
Jason previously shared that his kids have seen some of Ted Lasso, despite its tendency towards inappropriate language. "My kids watch it," he told Today. "One, so they know where Dad goes and they know what he's doing. But, I'm like, 'You can hear it, but you can't say it.'"

CHICAGO — USC will be put through the wringer this season. The Trojans will play Oregon, Ohio State and Indiana. They also have to hit the road to take on Penn State and Wisconsin back-to-back games.
As much of a gauntlet as USC's schedule is, it possesses a glaring omission: Notre Dame.
The news broke last winter that USC and Notre Dame had failed to reach an agreement to play what would be the 97th game in the historic series between the rival programs during the 2026 season. They have faced off in 78 consecutive seasons, excluding the COVID-19-affected campaign.
That streak is coming to an end this year. Previously, the series had only been paused for a three-year period that coincided with World War II and, as mentioned above, briefly for the pandemic.
When word got out about the newest hiatus in December, USC head coach Lincoln Riley blamed Notre Dame. He's not backing away from the sentiment he expressed back then.

An estimated 21.5 million additional adults in the United States may now be eligible for statins under updated cholesterol treatment guidelines, according to a new study.
The researchers aimed to estimate how many adults in the US would be considered eligible for statin therapy under the new 2026 blood cholesterol guidelines issued by the American Heart **** ociation, the American College of Cardiology and nine partnering medical societies, compared with the previous 2018 guidelines.
The **** ysis, published July 20 in the journal JAMA, found that the changes could bring the total number of Americans eligible for statins, medications that lower cholesterol, to about 87.5 million people, or more than half of adults ages 30 to 79.
What prompted this major expansion, and does being eligible mean that someone should immediately begin taking medication? To help us understand the study and what patients should discuss with their healthcare providers, I spoke with CNN wellness expert Dr. Leana Wen. Wen is an emergency physician and clinical **** ociate professor at George Washington University. She previously served as Baltimore's health commissioner.

LIV Golf's team finale has reportedly been canceled.
The report by Flushing It comes a couple weeks after Cleeks captain Martin Kaymer told Today's Golfer that LIV's team championship, scheduled for Aug. 27-30 at The Cardinal at Saint John's in Plymouth, Michigan, was "highly unlikely" to take place.
Flushing It, which previously cited several contractors whose travel arrangements for the event had been canceled, said that an official announcement was expected from LIV on Wednesday.
LIV Michigan was supposed to offer a $40 million purse, down from $50 million last year, with $11.2 million going to the winning team. But PIF's funding, originally announced to run through this year, has begun to dry up earlier than anticipated, according to Front Office Sports, which quoted one LIV source as saying last month, "I don't think they'll ever get to Michigan."
The Detroit News reported last week that no infrastructure had been built at The Cardinal, another ominous sign for LIV Michigan, which would become the second LIV tournament to be scrapped this year.

The attorney for Duane "Keefe D" Davis, the man charged with the first-degree murder of Tupac Shakur, is speaking out ahead of the start of his trial.
In an interview with The U.S. Sun published Tuesday, July 28, Mike Sanft said there "should never have been charges" against Davis in the first place, adding that his client's past comments about his alleged involvement in Shakur's murder were not necessarily truthful.
"It's exercising your First Amendment right to free speech," Sanft said. "Is it in good taste? Probably not. But once again, it's exercising in his right to free speech."
Davis previously recalled in his 2019 memoir Compton Street Legend the night Shakur was shot.
According to Sanft, authorities "should have rolled their eyes at Keefe and been like, 'Dude, seriously, why'd you even write that book? That's dumb.' Ultimately, when you really look into the book itself and the details of it it's not necessarily criminal."

Highly-recruited 2027 prospect Giaunni Rogers has narrowed to five finalists, she announced. Rogers will be considering Houston, Georgia Tech, Alabama, Arizona and Texas Tech for her landing spot.
"The biggest thing that is important to me would probably be believing in your freshman," she said. "The transfer portal has really hurt a lot of people in a lot of systems in the way that coaches now have to coach. It sucks because it makes it very hard for girls like me who might not be top or number one in the country. Some coaches now will go to the transfer portal first. All the schools I'm talking to really believe in their freshmen and there's a middle ground."
The 5-9 combo guard from Alpharetta (GA) St. Francis High School previously noted that she planned to start taking her official visits after AAU season.
"I do everything," Rogers said of her game. "I'm a versatile girl and I try to do everything. I shoot extremely well, I can get it off the dribble, I can pass and I play defense on top kids. I'm as ready to work on the defensive end as I am on the offensive end and that's been really important to me. I want to keep developing in my mindset – keeping it strong. I'm going to be a sponge heading into the next level."

Kasper Hogh, Celtic FC. Photo Celtic FC
Celtic today completed the signing of Danish International striker Kasper Hogh in a record breaking £11 million plus deal from Bodo/Glimt, leaving most of us delighted, but also a bit surprised as none of us, understandably so, had any faith in our hierarchy getting top quality deals over the line.
The striker who also played for Randers, Hobro, Aab, and Stabaek, in his homeland was a previously a player of serious interest in the eyes of Celtic, but unfortunately a deal didn't come to anything, due to a combination of our club's lackadaisical attitude towards recruitment, and Bodo Glimt's reluctance to sell due to their participation in the latter stages of the Champions League.
Hogh is a player of great ability, and it's a real sign of intent from Martin O'Neill, who has shown that he means business going into the forthcoming campaign.
The Danish centre forward is a player of proven quality as his record of 53 goals in 104 appearances for the forward thinking Norwegian side testifies.

The expanded 12-team College Football Playoff has created more opportunities for teams to compete for a national championship.
Programs that previously had almost no chance of making the playoffs now have a realistic path. That became clear over the past two seasons, as Indiana, SMU, Boise State, Tulane and James Madison all reached the CFP for the first time. Their success showed that winning games, capturing a conference ***** le and building a strong resume can now be enough to earn a playoff spot.
Even with those first-time teams making the field, several well-known programs are still waiting for their CFP debut. Few came very close in 2025, while others have built talented rosters that could help them break through in 2026. Strong recruiting, experienced coaching staffs and favorable conference situations have put these teams in a good position.
MORE: 9 best transfers in college football for 2026
A few of these programs finished just outside the playoffs last season and may only need one or two more wins to qualify. Others play in conferences that are expected to receive multiple CFP bids, giving them another path into the field. With the 2026 season around the corner, these six teams have the best chance to make their first-ever CFP appearance.

Newcastle United have added Braga goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek to their list of summer targets as they continue the search for another senior option between the posts. According to Sky Sports, the Magpies are reassessing the market after missing out on James Trafford, with Hornicek now viewed as a genuine candidate.
The 24-year-old Czechia international appears to fit the profile Newcastle have been examining. He is young, has strong recent exposure in European competition and, crucially, has already shown the sort of consistency that tends to elevate a goalkeeper into a more competitive transfer bracket. A return of 24 clean sheets in 55 appearances last season underlines why interest is building, while seven shut-outs in 14 Europa League matches points to a player comfortable on a bigger stage.
Photo IMAGO
There is no suggestion yet that Newcastle have advanced to a formal bid, but enquiries have been made and the situation is clearly active. Hornicek's reported £30 million release clause gives this potential move a defined framework, even if competition from elsewhere in Europe could yet shape the pace of any negotiations. Benfica are also checking on his availability, while Hull City previously moved to trigger the clause before the player turned that opportunity down.
That context matters. It indicates Hornicek is in demand, and it also suggests he is being selective about the next step in his career. For Newcastle, that may be encouraging if they decide to move decisively.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official press release from WSL Football this morning.
It has been revealed that the competition will now be known as the Subway Players Cup. Subway have agreed a new multi-year deal to remain the competition's principle sponsor.
The format of the competition is also changing. The group stage will adopt a Swiss-style league phase containing regional fixtures. Clubs will play a minimum of six league phase matches, an increase on previous years.
The eight highest-ranked clubs will progress to the knockout phase which is similar to what has been played out previously.
In a controversial move, the three Barclays Women's Super League clubs playing in Europe will not participate in the Subway Players Cup.

Real Madrid are hoping to complete a blockbuster double transfer in the next few days, as they aim to finalise Jose Mourinho's squad ahead of the 2026-27 La Liga season getting underway in a few weeks' time. A deal for Yan Diomande in close, and following him to the Bernabeu could be Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri.
In recent weeks, Real Madrid have turned their attention back to Rodri. They were priced out of a move for leading target Enzo Fernandez, but that could work in their favour as they are closing in on signing one of the world's best midfielders, as well as the recipient of the 2026 World Cup Golden Ball.
Previously, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez had ruled out signing Rodri as retribution for election rival Enrique Riquelme promising to bring the 30-year-old to the Bernabeu, but he's since changed his tune. As per Ramon Alvarez de Mon, he's gave the go-ahead last week for a move to be made for the Man City man, who should be available on a cut-price deal due to being in the final 12 months of his current contract.
Real Madrid believe that a deal can be done imminently, although they may need to raise their offer if they are to convince Man City to sell this summer. Despite already having an agreement on personal terms in place with the former Atletico Madrid and Villarreal midfielder, they have been quoted €80m to get a deal done now, whereas they are presently only willing to pay €50-60m.
It will be interesting to see how the Rodri situation develops over the coming weeks. Real Madrid will hope that Man City relax their stance sooner rather than later, knowing that they are unlikely to be able to agree a new contract with the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner.

After Subway renewed its sponsorship of the tournament it will now be known as The Subway Players Cup and it has undergone a change of format to a Swiss-style system but will not include any teams competing in the Champions League.
The initial League Phase of the new format will see all 23 clubs compete in a unified league table with teams playing six fixtures in a regionalised section – three home and three away.
As before, draws will go to a penalty shoot-out where the winner of that will earn an extra point.

Teenage striker Fynn Schenten of 1. FC Köln is set to continue his development in the Netherlands with Roda JC Kerkrade. As previously reported, the season-long loan contains no purchase option, reflecting Köln's belief that the 18-year-old remains a long-term first-team prospect. Schenten joined the club at the age of eight and progressed through every academy level at the Geißbockheim before helping Köln win the German under-19 championship.
He signed a professional contract through 2030 in January and has already made seven Bundesliga appearances. The move should provide regular senior minutes before Schenten returns to challenge for a permanent place in Köln's attack.
Raised in Bonn, Schenten joined Köln's academy at eight and progressed through every youth team. Last season, he scored six goals in five UEFA Youth League matches, including against Inter Milan before a record sellout crowd at the RheinEnergieStadion. In the Köln senior team, he made one start last October.
"One of our goals is to integrate as many players as possible from the FC Academy into the professional team," Köln technical director Lukas Berg noted in a club statement. "Fynn already made this leap on a few occasions last season and showed his potential. We discussed this plan with him early on. In Roda Kerkrade, we've found a suitable club where he'll be close to home, yet still have the opportunity to take the next steps in his development."
"I got a taste of [the Kölner experience] last season," Schenten himself noted. "Playing with the pros—and especially at the RheinEnergieStadion—was a first step, but of course I want to establish myself at this level permanently. I know I still have some ground to cover in my development to get there. I'm 100 percent committed to taking on this challenge in Kerkrade and then returning to Geißbockheim a year from now, stronger than ever."

Real Madrid are a couple of signings away from building a squad that Jose Mourinho will be content with taking into the new season, which gets underway in a few weeks' time. The hope is that Yan Diomande will be done in the next 48 hours, after which the club can turn their full attention to the pursuit of Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri.
Real Madrid had originally ruled out signing Rodri this summer, but after being priced out of a move for Enzo Fernandez, they have decided to go after the 2026 World Cup Golden Ball winner. An agreement on personal terms is already in place, with the 30-year-old very keen on a return to the Spanish capital, where he was previously with Atletico Madrid.
There is no doubt that Real Madrid are favourites to sign Rodri, who is looking more and more likely to leave Man City this summer. His unwillingness to extend his stay beyond 2027 – when his current contract expires – has alerted several clubs' attention, and while Paris Saint-Germain has been one of them, it's now been reported by Le Parisien (via Diario AS) that the reigning back-to-back European champions have ended their interest.
PSG had recognised that Rodri would be a market opportunity, but ultimately, they have decided that midfield is an area that they do not need to address this summer. That leaves Real Madrid with a free run at the world champion, although there is no guarantee that an agreement with Man City is reached in the coming weeks.
The latest is that Real Madrid are ready to pay up to €60m to sign Rodri this summer, but Man City's current stance is that any offers below €80m will not be considered. Bernabeu officials must now hope that the Premier League giants relax their stance in the coming weeks, otherwise they may need to wait until 2027 to secure his services.

Eintracht Frankfurt's previously reported signing of Brazilian centre back Otávio has been officially confirmed. Almost all reliable German footballing media sources confirm that the Bundesliga club has paid €4.5m to secure the 20-year-old's services. Otávio's new contract in Hessen runs through 2031. The new signing shall receive a chance to work directly ahead of his countryman Kaua Santos, who currently competes with Michael Zetterer for the No. 1 slot in goal.
"With Otávio, we're bringing in a young and highly talented center back with a lot of potential for development," SGE sporting director Timmo Hrdung noted in a club statement. "He's left-footed, tall, athletic, and fast, and combines that with a strong defensive mindset—something we specifically want to strengthen in our squad. We're convinced that he'll enjoy plenty of success here at Eintracht."
"Joining a club with such a rich tradition – one that regularly competes in major tournaments – is a dream come true and a very important step in my career," the player himself added. It's no secret how badly Bayern Munich wanted to sign Nick Woltemade, but there was a ceiling to what they were willing to pay in order to get him. Apparently, that ceiling was offensive to VfB Stuttgart chairman Alexander Wehrle.
According to a report from Goal, Wehrle took a "swipe" at Bayern Munich during the club's annual general meeting, addressing both transfer negotiations and fan support.
Speaking to club members, Wehrle revisited the high-profile transfer saga involving the striker. Despite rumors that Woltemade had previously settled on personal terms with the Bavarian giants, Bayern's valuation peaked at €60 million, considerably less than the selling price. Stuttgart held firm on their evaluation of at least €75 million for the attacker before eventually reaching an agreement with Newcastle United, who met, and exceeded, their asking price. Wehrle dismissed any notion that Stuttgart was acting out of spite towards Bayern, explaining that the financial proposal from Munich amounted to little more than "a ****** er pretzel."
The Stuttgart executive also took a direct jab at the atmosphere created by the traveling support from Munich. Reflecting on their DFB-Pokal final clash in May, Wehrle claimed that their supporters completely dominated the stadium, and that he couldn't hear any Bayern fans in attendance.
Stuttgart's firm negotiating stance ultimately secured a record fee from the Magpies. But on the other hand, Wehrle's cheeky comments regarding fan noise were clearly designed to rally the local faithful, after his statements were met with "thunderous applause."
