With a number of retail chains competing for the off-price, on-trend fashion crown, it's easy for one brand to fall out of favor. Consumers seem to have an enduring love for Marshalls and TJ Maxx, while the popularity of Ross Dress for Less has grown steadily in recent years.
These brands drive sales by foot traffic, and that's a battle the aforementioned chains have been winning.
"Off-price apparel remained on solid footing in Q2 2026, with Ross leading the segment. Visits to Ross Dress for Less rose 16.4% year over year (YoY), while dd's DISCOUNTS grew 8.4%. TJX's TJ Maxx and Marshalls, meanwhile, saw visits hover around last year's levels — significantly outperforming traditional apparel, which declined 3.5% YoY," according to data from Placer.ai.
In the battle for customers looking for deals on trendy, fashionable clothes, Cato has been struggling, and now plans to close about 15% of its retail stores.

Aug 24 (Reuters) - Michael Saylor's Strategy set aside about $1.6 billion in cash to fund future treasury operations, including potential bitcoin purchases and share buybacks, the company disclosed in a regulatory filing on Monday.
The world's largest corporate buyer of bitcoin dubbed the liquidity pool "USD Cash," which will be different from a reserve it set up earlier to fund dividends on its preferred stock and interest on its outstanding debt.
The new cash pool will have more flexible uses and could be used for bitcoin purchases, share buybacks and other corporate events.
It could also give Strategy more flexibility to navigate bitcoin market downturns, allowing it to maintain cash on hand, while continuing to pursue its bitcoin-buying strategy.
The move comes after a robust week for bitcoin, which gained a little over 13% in the last five sessions after U.S. President Donald Trump urged Congress to pass legislation establishing clear rules for digital ***** ets.

Samsung Electronics raised prices for some advanced chipmaking services by up to 15% for new orders, as surging AI demand fills key production lines and pushes customers toward alternatives to capacity-constrained Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (NYSE:TSM).
Prices for U.S. and Chinese customers using Samsung's 4-nanometer SF4 process rose 10% to 15% in July, while 5-nanometer wafers climbed by a similar amount, Reuters reported Wednesday. Samsung declined to comment.
Samsung's Seoul-listed shares tumbled 7.8% Wednesday as the KOSPI sank 5.8%, despite fresh evidence that AI infrastructure demand remains strong.
Investors are questioning the scale of AI spending even as chipmakers struggle to keep up with it.

FLA's new guidance offers a "strategic approach and concrete recommendations" informed by labour rights standards and frameworks, including its work with the Responsible Purchasing Practices Working Group. It is based on FLA's learnings from evaluating over 50 companies' responsible purchasing and production practices over the last decade; insights gleaned from conversations with buyers; and more.
"Purchasing decisions directly influence working conditions in supply chains," said FLA vice president of research & development in social compliance Tiffany Rogers. "Cost negotiations, payment terms, and lead times are just a few of the elements companies must consider in light of their impact on workers. Our latest guidance is designed to help businesses develop clear processes for working responsibly with suppliers that avoid creating risks for both workers and business operations."
Just Style coverage yesterday on the back of data from ESG ratings agency EcoVadis, revealed most UK retailers currently have no mechanism in place for workers to safely report labour rights abuse. EcoVadis ***** sed nearly 3,000 suppliers to UK retailers, 242 of which were based in countries classified as high risk for labour and human rights abuses.
While 72% of these suppliers had a written human rights policy in place, 56% had no formal channel available for workers to safely report labour-rights issues such as unpaid wages, harassment or forced labour conditions.
