On September 9, 2026, Reuters reported that Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL)'s Google will invest at least €13 billion, or about $15.1 billion, in AI infrastructure in Finland over the next two years, its biggest European investment, including three new data centers and a 22-year deal for up to 50% of the output of one of Finland's two nuclear power plants. The agreement with Finnish utility Fortum is Google's first nuclear energy deal outside the United States, and Fortum's stock jumped as much as 15.5% on the news, its biggest gain in Europe that day.
Finland gives Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) a potentially more cost-efficient location for its expanding AI infrastructure. Google plans to invest at least €13 billion ($15.1 billion) in three new data centers and related infrastructure in Finland during 2027 and 2028. The country's cold climate can reduce the need for energy-intensive cooling. The investment will also help grid improvements, clean-energy projects and battery storage.
The 22-year nuclear power agreement gives Google greater control over a critical input for AI infrastructure. Google will purchase up to 50% of the electricity generated by Finland's Loviisa nuclear plant, providing a long-term source of low-carbon power for its data-center operations. The agreement also gives Fortum greater economic certainty to extend and upgrade the plant through 2050. Google and Fortum plan to explore more nuclear and renewable projects.
Alphabet has strong demand drivers that can justify investment in AI capacity. The firm has increased its 2026 global capital investment target to $195 billion-$205 billion as it seeks to capture growing AI computing demand. Google is using the additional infrastructure to support Gemini, Search, Maps, and YouTube. It gives Alphabet multiple major products through which it can monetize greater AI capacity over time.
The Finland project adds another major commitment to Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL)'s already enormous AI spending program. Alphabet expects to spend $195 billion-$205 billion on capital investment globally in 2026. The Finnish project will require at least another €13 billion during 2027 and 2028. Investors need Alphabet to make enough incremental revenue and cash flow from AI services to justify an infrastructure buildout that is rapidly increasing the company's capital requirements.

No matter how well you plan for retirement, there are surprises that could throw you for a loop. The stock market might crash unexpectedly. Your healthcare costs might increase. Or, worse yet, you could end up needing long-term care at some point.
But one hiccup you should know to plan for is inflation. Over time, the cost of living is likely to rise. And if you aren't prepared, you could easily end up losing out on buying power. These two adjustments to your retirement plan could help you avoid that fate.
Missed AI's "Act 1"? Act 2 Could Be 15x Bigger. Most investors think they missed the AI boat because they didn't buy Nvidia in 2005. But according to our ******* ysts, we're only at the end of "Act 1"—the R&D phase. "Act 2" is the global rollout. Continue »
It's fairly common for retirees to reduce their stock holdings to minimize risk in their portfolios. But while it's OK to de-risk to some degree, you don't want to dump your stocks completely. Doing so could cause your portfolio to trail inflation, leading you to lose buying power and putting your savings at risk of being depleted.
If you're not comfortable holding individual stocks in retirement, buy shares of an S&P 500 exchange-traded fund (ETF). This effectively gives you exposure to the market. Or load up on dividend ETFs that generate steady income.

NextEra Energy, Inc. (NYSE:NEE) announced on September 8 that it had secured a loan of up to $1.9 billion from the U.S. Department of Energy to support the restart of a shuttered nuclear power plant in Iowa. The Duane Arnold Energy Center ceased operations in 2020 after 45 years of service. The plant is now expected to resume operations in early 2029, pending regulatory approvals.
The federal funding is intended to help restore the facility and add reliable generation capacity as the US electricity demand soars to record levels amid the AI boom. To help meet the growing demand, President Trump is making efforts to accelerate the expansion of nuclear energy. He has signed an executive order to get 10 large conventional reactors under construction by 2030 and has also called for federal funding to support the restart of shuttered nuclear plants.
John Ketchum, Chairman, President, and CEO of NextEra Energy, commented:
"Restarting Duane Arnold is about delivering new power to meet new demand while generating billions of dollars in economic value for Iowans. Just as importantly, it shows how America can support rapid economic growth and rising electricity demand while helping keep power affordable for existing customers. By bringing new generation online to serve new demand, we can strengthen the grid, create hundreds of good-paying jobs and help ensure Iowa families and businesses are not asked to bear the costs of growth. We appreciate the Administration's leadership in advancing America's nuclear renaissance and share its commitment to an all-of-the-above energy strategy that expands supply, strengthens energy security and keeps America competitive."

On September 14, NextEra Energy, Inc. (NYSE:NEE) and Dominion Energy, Inc. (NYSE:D) announced a "transformational" Virginia benefits package to address concerns regarding their proposed $66.8 billion merger. The Virginia supplier program, worth up to $1 billion annually ‌for five years, will direct spending toward contractors, suppliers, and service providers in the state.
Additionally, the companies also proposed doubling residential bill credits to four years, protecting retail customers from grid costs tied to Northern Virginia's rapidly expanding AI data centers, and committing $100 million toward directly supporting workforce development in the Commonwealth. NextEra also stated that it plans to add 600 new energy jobs in Virginia, while expecting suppliers to create another 400 positions.
The updated package comes after the proposed merger attracted a great deal of political scrutiny due to the impact it can have on everyday consumers. Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger also stated last month that she would formally intervene in the regulatory review to press for commitments on electric bill affordability, job protections, and clean-energy investments.
John Ketchum, Chairman, President, and CEO of NextEra Energy, commented:
"This is a Virginia-first package, and it starts with customers. We are proposing to double residential bill relief from two years to four years, along with expanded low-income financial ******* istance and long-term affordability benefits. We are also reaffirming our support for the State Corporation Commission, Governor and General ******* embly's efforts to protect residential and small business customers from costs ******* ociated with serving data centers. Just as important, this package would help Virginia build more of the clean energy and infrastructure it needs faster, so the Commonwealth can reduce its reliance on expensive imported power. And it would do that while positioning Virginia as a major energy leader, bringing NextEra Energy jobs, good-paying supplier jobs, workforce investment, economic development and national-scale energy technology and innovation to Virginia. This is the kind of customer-focused, job-creating package this combination makes possible."

The Illinois governor called for federal regulation of AI.
With calls to regulate AI growing, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker urged Congress to pass federal guardrails on the technology.
“You can't do this state by state. This needs to be a national effort as well as an international endeavor, especially together with our allies, because AI is not going to go away,” Pritzker told ABC “This Week” co-anchor Jonathan Karl in an exclusive interview that aired Sunday.
Pritzker touted legislation he signed in Illinois in July requiring AI companies to conduct annual third-party audits of their safety plans and disclose safety incidents to the state. He urged Congress to make federal regulations a top priority, calling the technology “dangerous on the level of nuclear weapons.”
President Donald Trump has called AI fears a “hoax” and announced he is forming an “AI Force” to accelerate growth in the industry. Pritzker said that approach is a mistake.

Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) is one of the most successful stocks in history. Since launching its IPO in 1999, the stock has earned unprecedented returns, especially considering the 27-year time frame. So high are the gains that an investment of $1,000 at that time would deliver millions.

A 2022 Nasdaq crash turned $10,000 into just $2,100 with TQQQ but preserved $3,900 with QLD's lower 2x leverage.
Recovering from TQQQ's 79% loss requires a 376% gain just to break even, making the extra leverage a costly bet.
QLD's 5-year annualized return of 17% beat TQQQ's 15% as volatility drag quietly eroded the extra leverage's advantage.

Leveraged ETFs have become an increasingly popular way to participate in the recent AI-driven technology boom. One such fund favored by investors and traders alike is the ProShares UltraPro QQQ (NASDAQ:TQQQ), an ETF that targets three times the Nasdaq's daily return. For investors who are uncomfortable with the 3x target, the ProShares Ultra QQQ (NYSEARCA:QLD) offers similar exposure but targets 2x the Nasdaq-100's daily move. When the Nasdaq is advancing higher, TQQQ seems like the obvious choice, but during a serious selloff, the reduced leverage of QLD can dramatically change the amount of capital left standing when the decline is over.

Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) is targeting a potentially significant opportunity through its strategic Terafab partnership with companies **** ociated with Elon Musk, including **** eX, Tesla, and xAI. The initiative is part of an ambitious semiconductor manufacturing project focused on producing advanced chips for artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, autonomous vehicles, and other compute-intensive applications.
On September 15, Tigress Financial highlighted the strategic importance of the alliance to Intel's turnaround prospects. The research firm reiterated its Buy rating on Intel and raised its price target to $145 from $118, citing the company's long-term growth opportunity.
The Terafab partnership could provide Intel's foundry business with exposure to customers that have substantial AI and high-performance computing requirements. Securing external customers could help Intel increase manufacturing scale while improving the utilization and economics of its foundry operations.
The partnership could also support Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC)'s efforts to improve its semiconductor manufacturing technology. Greater production volumes and engagement with demanding customers could provide opportunities to improve manufacturing economics, yields, and scalability as Intel works to strengthen its competitive position in advanced chip manufacturing.
Beyond manufacturing scale, Terafab could expand Intel's role in the broader AI semiconductor supply chain. The company has historically been heavily **** ociated with CPUs, but growing its foundry business could give it greater exposure to AI accelerators, custom silicon, and other specialized compute applications. A relationship with major AI-focused customers could also help provide greater visibility into future manufacturing demand.

Accenture plc (NYSE:ACN) investors are having a rough year, with the shares down more than 25%. Now Wall Street is divided over the company's outlook.
Morgan Stanley raised its price target on Accenture to $175 from $130 on September 14. Accenture shares soared more than 6% in afternoon trading following the price target increase, even though the firm reiterated its Equal weight rating on the stock.
Meanwhile, UBS recently maintained a Buy rating on the stock with a price target of $275. The bank pointed to confidence in the company's positioning around AI and, in separate notes, its acquisition strategy. However, Wells Fargo downgraded Accenture to Equal Weight. According to Wells Fargo, macroeconomic pressures could weigh on fiscal 2027 growth expectations.
The question is whether Accenture's expanding AI capabilities and acquisitions can translate into long-term growth.
Accenture's AI fortunes are tied to enterprise deployment of the technology. The company has formed a joint business group with Google Cloud to deploy AI engineers across enterprise clients. That arrangement gives Accenture another channel through which AI adoption can create demand for consulting, implementation, and integration services.

Gov. Gavin Newsom on Saturday signed legislation to increase security for the state's voting systems and protect Californians' ability to cast ballots in an effort to guard against potential interference in the Nov. 3 election, including by the Trump administration.
Newsom pointed to the Trump administration's recent effort to restrict mail-in voting through the U.S. Postal Service, which was struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court, and the presence of federal monitors at California polls last year as evidence that Trump "will continue his efforts to interfere with the November election."
"Donald Trump won't stop until he can exert dictatorial control over your free vote and disenfranchise millions of people this November. California will stop him at every opportunity," Newsom said in a statement. "We have no bigger task than fighting to protect the right to vote from interference and meddling — the future of democracy is on the line. These bills today build upon the wall California has built to safeguard our electoral process."
The governor signed the package of bills at the ****** anese American National Museum in Little Tokyo, where a year earlier federal agents gathered outside a political rally he was hosting. Then-Border Patrol Sector Chief Gregory Bovino, who had been leading the immigration operations in California, was among those outside the event, joined by agents in helmets, camouflage, masks and holding guns. Newsom described their presence as political intimidation.
One bill Newsom signed Saturday cites efforts to "weaponize law enforcement authority for political purposes," including Republican "Sheriff Chad Bianco's seizure of ballots in Riverside County," and the election monitors sent by the U.S. Justice Department to polling sites in five counties during a 2025 special election on redistricting.

Credit card companies are racing to claim a place at the checkout when AI agents start shopping on behalf of consumers—even as shoppers remain skeptical of letting bots spend their money.
Mastercard rolled out a payment option Thursday that lets people give an AI agent a virtual card and allow it to buy things online without checking in before each purchase. Cardholders can limit how much it spends, restrict which retailers it buys from, or require approval before checkout.
"This is a land grab for infrastructure standards," Phil Bruno, chief strategy and growth officer at payments company ACI Worldwide, told Fortune. "If they set the standards for agentic commerce, they can keep the commerce in their environments for decades to come."
Rival Visa partnered with Alchemy earlier this year and has also announced its own AI shopping and payment product, Visa Intelligent Commerce, which the company says is still being deployed. Similarly, Meta has Muse, which can search for products and navigate checkout, but presents the purchase for the user's final approval.
It seems, though, that shoppers appear far more interested in using AI to find a deal than letting it pay. Just 7% of U.S. and U.K. consumers surveyed who buy fashion items said they would allow an AI ***** istant to make purchases without approval under predefined conditions, according to research commissioned by ACI Worldwide. More than half said they were uncomfortable allowing AI to purchase on their behalf.

One of the world's largest companies has become a cash-return machine of historic scale, but its engine is now facing a serious test.
With Apple (AAPL) stock trading near $337 a share, an owner might ask a simple question. The company has returned a fortune in cash while the stock has dramatically outperformed the market; was holding worth it, and can this machine keep running?
Over the last five years, Apple sent $510.4 billion in cash back to its shareholders. That sum, equal to about 10.3% of the company's current market value, is the largest capital return of any U.S. company Trefis tracks over that period. The question is what that extraordinary payout says about the business today.
The money printer is Apple's core business, which generated $136.68 billion in free cash flow over the last twelve months. In its most recent quarter, the company reported record June-quarter revenue, with iPhone sales growing 22% and Mac sales growing an impressive 29% from a year ago. Management noted that the iPhone and Mac were "both doing remarkably better than we thought they would do."
That operational strength funds the shareholder returns. The five-year payout was heavily weighted toward share repurchases, which totaled $434.5 billion, with another $75.9 billion paid in dividends. Apple's absolute dollar payout stands alone, even though the 10.3% of market value it returned sits well below the 16.9% median for S&P 500 companies.

On August 19, Ferrovial (NASDAQ:FER) announced it had been selected to deliver the I-24 Southeast Choice Lanes, a 26-mile project running between Nashville and Murfreesboro. It is the largest single capital investment in Tennessee's history and the state's first public-private partnership. The price tag is $9.2 billion, though Ferrovial isn't carrying it alone, since its DriveTN consortium also counts Transurban and Tikehau Star Infra as partners.
Choice lanes are familiar ground for Ferrovial, which has replicated the model in Washington, D.C., Charlotte and Dallas-Fort Worth. On Virginia's 66 Express corridor, similar lanes shaved up to 50% off peak-hour travel times. That is the pitch for I-24, a stretch of highway that already ranks among the region's most jammed: drivers who opt in get steadier speeds, and those in the free lanes should see less traffic too.
The business behind the bid looks healthy, too. Ferrovial's July 28 results showed adjusted EBITDA up 21.6% on a like-for-like basis to €746 million over the first six months of the year, with U.S. highways doing most of the lifting. Those roads are sending cash home as well, since Ferrovial received €357 million in dividends from North America. And the construction order book reached an all-time high of €18 billion, so plenty of work is already in hand. The pipeline keeps filling: Ferrovial bid on I-285 East in Georgia in July, and its D35 Highway bid in the Czech Republic was the most cost-effective submitted, with technical evaluation still underway.
Beyond the roads, the balance sheet looks sturdy. Ferrovial ended the first half with €1.3 billion in net cash, excluding infrastructure projects, meaning cash outweighs debt outside those projects. The airport arm is progressing too: Ferrovial has finished funding the $1.1 billion in equity it pledged for New Terminal One at JFK, and construction there is 92% complete.
Start with the line that looks worst on the page. Net profit for the first half of 2026 came in at €258 million, versus €540 million for the same period of 2025. That earlier figure included capital gains from ******* et rotation, which makes the comparison harsh, but the mismatch is still there: EBITDA climbed while reported profit fell.

On average, investors generally expect the market to provide roughly a 10% return each year. In fact, if you look at the long-term history of the S&P 500 index (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC), that's about what you get, ******* uming you reinvest dividends. So what should an investor make of the fact that the first six months of 2026 saw the S&P 500 index advance 9.5% on a price-only basis and nearly 10.2% with dividends reinvested?
The first issue to address regarding market returns is that it includes bull and bear markets. A bull market is when the market goes up 20%, while a bear market is when it falls 20%. Bull and bear markets represent moves much larger than 10% and highlight that the market does not just go up at a steady, comfortable pace. The markets can be, and often are, quite volatile.

To be fair, if you bought and held the S&P 500 index over the long term, you would have seen the value of your portfolio rise dramatically. You can easily buy the index with a low-cost exchange-trade fund like Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (NYSEMKT: VOO). But you have had to hold on through some pretty trying periods. For example, since the turn of the century, SPDR S&P 500 ETF (NYSEMKT: SPY), the oldest ETF tracking this index, is up roughly 400% on a price-only basis, with reinvested dividends bringing the total return up to just over 700%.

First Phosphate Corp. (CSE:PHOS, NASDAQ:PHOS, FRA:KD0, OTCQX:FRSPF) earlier this week highlighted Swiss government support for financing linked to its Bégin-Lamarche mine, as CEO John Passalacqua outlined the company's efforts to ***** emble a capital stack designed to limit shareholder dilution.
Proactive: Really big news out from the company today. It really jumps off the page: a guarantee of $212.5 million for CapEx for First Phosphate, coming from the Swiss government. Tell me a little bit about this, John.
John Passalacqua: Yeah, so this is the Swiss government that's guaranteeing up to 85% of exports from Switzerland that are aimed towards the mine at Bégin-Lamarche. So you've got a very nice debt-to-equity ratio there. 85% is almost unheard of in the industry. And it's obviously based on the credibility of the mine, based on the fact that we've been endorsed by the G7, based on the fact that we have other export credit agencies at the table.
EIFO from Denmark was there already, if you remember, for €170 million. So little by little, we're putting together the whole capital stack here for the project, which can be done quite non-dilutively.
And that's a key to this because they're looking at about 85% of the cost, and potentially more if that happens. But it does get to the point where your shareholders are very well protected here.

My husband, 59, and I, 55, are planning to retire over the next few years, and this is one of the biggest unknowns I'm struggling with. My mom had Alzheimer's disease and spent seven years in a really nice memory-care facility in a smaller town. It cost about $7,000 a month. Thankfully, my parents had purchased long-term-care insurance and had paid premiums for about 12 years.
My dad died shortly after being diagnosed with cancer, so his policy was never used. But my mom's policy ended up being worth its weight in gold. It essentially covered all of her care. By the time my mother died, the insurance company had paid out almost $600,000. We only paid about $100 a month for some extras. Needless to say, that experience has made me think.
The 10-year Treasury is having its worst run in over 100 years. Why investors are buying bonds anyway.
'I'm burned out': I'm constantly helping my cousin who is running out of money. Is it too much to expect his sister to help?
I've looked into long-term-care insurance, but the premiums are so incredibly expensive, and I worry about what they'll cost by the time it makes sense for me to seriously consider a policy. We're fortunate financially. After 35 years in the corporate grind, we'll have substantial retirement savings; we've always saved carefully; and we have no debt or mortgage.

Saving for retirement is hard. For starters, humans aren't very good at delaying gratification. And saving is basically choosing not to spend today so you can spend, hopefully even more, in the future. But there's another problem with saving for retirement: it is hard to set a goal. There's one popular retirement rule that can help with that. Here it is.
When you think about money, the gut reaction is to compare yourself to other people. That's understandable, but it can lead you into troubling waters. For example, the average 65 to 74-year-old has a net worth of nearly $1.8 million. So, you could argue that by 67 you should have that much money saved up. But that figure mashes together the very rich with people who aren't as fortunate. The median net worth, with half of all people above and half below, is roughly $410,000, which is a lot lower. Which one is the better target?
Missed AI's "Act 1"? Act 2 Could Be 15x Bigger. Most investors think they missed the AI boat because they didn't buy Nvidia in 2005. But according to our ***** ysts, we're only at the end of "Act 1"—the R&D phase. "Act 2" is the global rollout. Continue »
That doesn't even consider the fact that net worth includes ***** ets like a home, which isn't something you can easily tap for cash. Sure, you could sell your home and move into a small residence, but you still need to live somewhere. And you aren't average or median. You are you, and your earnings and savings numbers are unique.
That's where a simple savings rule comes in, based on your salary. Essentially, you are creating a personalized saving goal for retirement. To cut to the end of the story, the rule is that you should have 10x your salary saved by age 67. But that's just the final step in the process, because the rule provides benchmarks all along the way to keep you on track.

NEW YORK (AP) — Two major news networks were denied access to the White House on Saturday morning, with reporters from CNN and MS NOW both going live to report they'd been barred following a ban imposed by President Donald Trump.
The actions escalated Trump's long-running efforts to restrict news coverage by journalists he finds objectionable, and is the latest test of First Amendment protections in the United States. Trump said Friday he would ban both organizations and also Politico, because of their coverage — which he called "fake news."
CNN issued a statement saying it stood behind its reporters. "We will not be deflected from our duty to hold the government and other public bodies to account," it said. The statement was shown on the air before senior White House reporter Betsy Klein began to report on her ban.
MS NOW also said in a statement that it stands behind its journalists.
"The White House belongs to the American people and the decisions made inside are funded by our tax dollars," the network said in a statement Saturday. "MS NOW intends to take any and all steps necessary to defend our First Amendment rights and the essential role of independent journalism in our democracy."

If you are looking for reliable high yields in the energy sector, Energy Transfer (NYSE: ET) is likely to be high up on the list of options. And Wall Street really likes the stock, with 19 of the 21 ***** ysts covering it rating it a buy or strong buy. And yet, I just can't get myself to buy it, instead owning lower-yielding Enbridge (NYSE: ENB). Here's why Energy Transfer's 6.3% yield, despite distribution coverage of 2.2x, isn't enough to get me to buy it.
Before getting to Energy Transfer, I want to highlight some facts about Enbridge, the North American pipeline giant I actually bought. For starters, Enbridge's yield is 5.8%, roughly half a percentage point lower. That's a big difference, as buying Energy Transfer would increase my income stream by nearly 9%.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
I can totally understand where a dividend investor would buy Energy Transfer for the added yield. But there's a big difference when you consider dividend history. Enbridge has increased its dividend annually for 31 consecutive years. Energy Transfer cut its distribution in 2020 during the COVID pandemic, right when most investors would probably have preferred dividend consistency. To Energy Transfer's credit, it lived up to its promise at the time to reduce leverage and return to distribution growth. In fact, the distribution is now above its level prior to the cut. And the cut was probably the right decision to make for the business.
But that distribution cut was a hit for unitholders. And it comes after another questionable situation back during the 1996 energy market downturn. At that point, Energy Transfer agreed to buy peer Williams (NYSE: WMB), but got cold feet. In an effort to scuttle the deal, Energy Transfer issued convertibles that appeared to protect insiders from a dividend cut, if one were made. The Williams deal was canceled, and the convertibles never became an issue, but it raised material trust issues for me.

Back in 2021, banks treated crypto like radioactive waste. Fast forward to 2026, and financial giant Visa (NYSE: V) isn't just dipping a toe in -- it's basically cannonballing into the deep end of the stablecoin pool.
Here's what Visa has done recently, and why it's huge for anyone holding crypto.
Continue »
In July, Visa introduced the Visa Stablecoin Platform (VSP). Think of it as a plug-and-play stablecoin toolkit for traditional banks and fintechs.
Instead of traditional institutions sweating over managing private keys, setting up multi-sig wallets, or figuring out how to mint and burn tokens, Visa handed them a slick "Wallet-as-a-Service." Starting with Open USD, an upcoming token, Visa will also support the popular USDC (CRYPTO: USDC) coin later this year. Banks can now hold, move, and settle stablecoins using the same enterprise-grade security tools they're already comfortable with. It's in beta testing for now, pending the Open USD launch.

Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) stock jumped roughly 7.6% on Thursday after news broke yesterday of a possible deal that would see SK Hynix's memory chips fabricated in Intel's Ohio factories.
The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite rose 1.1% and 1.7%, respectively, on Thursday.

Reuters reported on Sept. 16 that SK Hynix is discussing either leasing part of Intel's planned Ohio facility or forming a venture with Intel and others. The talks are exploratory, and no formal deal has been made, but the possibility of a deal has been enough to boost Intel for two sessions in a row.
If a deal materializes, it could be a significant one for the U.S. chipmaker's Foundry business, which has struggled. The company considered selling it off before CEO Lip-Bu Tan made it a core part of his turnaround efforts after years of underperformance.

On September 7, 2026, Reuters reported that Novo Nordisk A/S (NYSE:NVO) halted two additional trials of its experimental cardiovascular drug ziltivekimab, further denting the Danish drugmaker's efforts to diversify beyond its blockbuster obesity and diabetes franchise.
The move follows a July disclosure that ziltivekimab failed to reduce major adverse cardiovascular events in a late-stage trial. An independent data monitoring committee found a "low likelihood" that the two additional heart-failure studies would produce a different result from that earlier failure, prompting Novo to end them ahead of schedule.
Novo Nordisk A/S (NYSE:NVO) still has one opportunity to create value from its cardiovascular program. The company will continue testing ziltivekimab in patients recovering from a heart attack, with results expected in the first half of 2027. A successful outcome could give Novo another growth opportunity outside its obesity and diabetes franchise.
Novo's core obesity and diabetes business remains the much larger driver of its financial performance. The oral Wegovy pill has already generated more than 2 million prescriptions shortly after its January 2026 launch. It gives Novo an important growth opportunity as the company competes with Eli Lilly in the oral GLP-1 market.
The company can also preserve capital by ending trials that show limited prospects for success. An independent data monitoring committee found a low likelihood that the two heart-failure studies would produce different results from the earlier failed trial. Novo can redirect the resources it would have spent on those studies toward higher-potential programs.

Dave & Buster's Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ:PLAY) reported a widening split between dining and entertainment in its September 14 second-quarter results. Food-and-beverage revenue increased to $211.5 million from $192.9 million, while entertainment revenue fell to $332.6 million from $364.5 million.
For the fiscal quarter ended August 4, 2026, total revenue declined 2.4% to $544.1 million. Operating income dropped to $19.4 million from $53 million. The GAAP net loss was $12.5 million, versus net income of $11.4 million a year earlier. Stronger restaurant sales are providing support, but the investment question is whether they can also bring customers back to the games.
Food-and-beverage revenue grew approximately 9.6%, giving Dave & Buster's Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ:PLAY) an identifiable source of momentum. A more appealing dining experience could encourage repeat visits, group occasions, and longer stays, creating additional opportunities to sell entertainment.
Management reported ongoing growth in food-and-beverage and special-events sales, alongside improving comparable-sales trends in July and the third quarter to date. That suggests the recovery effort has some traction beyond a single revenue category, although the later sales improvement was not quantified.
Management also said remodeled locations continued to outperform the system on comparable sales. That supports selective investment in existing venues, provided the additional revenue earns adequate returns on remodeling costs.

Consumer confidence decreased in August, according to The Conference Board's Consumer Confidence Index. This was the second straight month in decline. If September's report shows the same trend, investors might start looking for stocks that can prove resilient through tough economic times.
Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG) fits the bill about as well as a company can. Let's have a look.

P&G has raised its dividend for 70 consecutive years. Not many businesses can claim that. Among Dividend Kings, or companies that have raised dividends for 50 years straight, only P&G and five other members qualify for that ultra-elite group. The dividend is also well-funded, as P&G's earnings per share and free cash flow comfortably exceed the amount needed. The company's payout ratio is around 64%.
P&G is diversified within its products. Everything consumers need, ranging from diapers to toothpaste, razors, and detergents, is held within its portfolio of everyday household staples. These are products that people will continue to buy regardless of macroeconomic conditions.

Here's why that's great news for Alphabet stock and its investors.
A lot of attention is being paid to consumer AI markets right now, partly because individuals were among the earliest adopters of AI, long before companies began experimenting with AI chatbots and agents.

Prequalification is a rough estimate of how much you may be able to borrow, while preapproval is a vetted, conditional commitment of the amount and interest rate a lender feels comfortable offering you for a mortgage.
Prequalification is based on the information you provide, whereas a preapproval requires a soft credit pull and is a more accurate representation of what you can borrow.
Preapproval vs. prequalification can vary from lender to lender in terms of definition, and it's important to understand the differences as you begin your homebuying journey.
