"Jakob was one of the most unique players in PBA history," PBA Commissioner Tom Clark said in a statement. "Fans marveled at his delivery, as he rode a wave of strikes into becoming a top player in the sport, capable of winning at any time, in any event.
"Jakob was kind, he was respectful, and he was a champion. He will never be forgotten. Our hearts are with all **** ers touched on his one-of-a-kind journey."
Included in **** urff's eight victories was a major win at the 2019 USBC Masters. He also picked up 27 PBA Regional Tour **** les and was a 7-time member of Team USA, per the PBA. He bowled a televised 300 during the 2020 PBA Tour Finals.

WNBA star Brittney Griner has filed for divorce from her wife, Cherelle Griner, ending eight years of marriage, in Fulton County, Georgia, on Thursday, July 30. The two were married in 2018 but had been living separately since July 24, as per court documents obtained by People. Griner met her 33-year-old partner during her college days at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. They also share a two-year-old son, named Bash. The player is seeking joint custody for their son.

Veteran wide receiver Deebo Samuel signed a one-year contract worth up to $7 million with the 49ers on Thursday.
Samuel was a second-round pick by the 49ers in 2019 and played the first seven seasons of his career with the franchise. Samuel was traded to the Washington Commanders during the 2025 offseason for a fifth-round selection, but is back in San Francisco just one year later.
The addition of Samuel was needed due to injuries at the position. Per The Athletic's Matt Barrows, 49ers receiver Ricky Pearsall currently has knee swelling and receiver Christian Kirk injured his calf in the 49ers' first practice.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Republican leader of the Indiana Senate announced Friday that he would give up his position after six GOP incumbents who opposed President Donald Trump on his congressional redistricting push in the state lost their primaries.
Indiana Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray drew the ire of Trump in December when he voted against the redistricting plan after saying for weeks that it didn't have enough support to pass. The rejection came after intense lobbying from Trump, Vice President JD Vance, national conservative groups and others.
Bray, who has held his leadership position since 2018, said in a statement Friday that he would not seek reelection to the post when Senate Republicans choose their leaders in November. His current Senate term runs through 2028 and he will remain in office, albeit not as the Republican Senate leader.
Trump reacted to the news in a social media post by saying Bray had "foolishly led," the state Senate, noting the May primary defeats of those who defied him on the redistricting plan.
Bray did not mention Trump or the redistricting fight in his statement announcing his position to step down from the leadership position. Bray said holding the job "has been among the most significant honors of my life, but it's time for the Senate to choose another leader."

Following recent reports from Kings insider James Ham, speculation has surfaced regarding Zach LaVine's future in Sacramento. If he were to negotiate a buyout with the Kings, he'd have plenty of suitors, a list that could include Golden State.

That said, it would take strong convincing for LaVine to land with the Warriors if he were bought out, as many other contenders (Detroit and Miami) could provide him with a better chance to win. The Vikings' defense has enjoyed the presence of Harrison Smith ever since he was drafted back in 2012. The team enjoys his presence on and off the field, but at 37, some things are just not the same as they used to be. As a result, the unsigned veteran is sitting on the side waiting for something to change or to retire.
Despite the age factor and being unsigned, it isn't lessening the blow of his absence in training camp. Especially for Brian Flores, who is missing his defensive leader.
This week at the start of training camp, he discussed Smith's absence, saying, "I think collectively there's a sense of trying to, you know, bring what he brought to the table from a communication, leadership standpoint. You know, with him being absent or not absent, but not being here. I still haven't gotten over it..."
It still seems very possible that Smith could return after training camp wraps up, or is close enough to being wrapped up. We have seen veterans do this before, but there has been no smoke at all with Harrison Smith, so many people flying blind in this scenario.
Plenty of time left, but for now, Vikings fans will have to keep sitting on pins and needles.

Two things happened to Mark Zuckerberg's Meta (NASDAQ: META) yesterday. Earnings showed how much the company was investing in AI, and data centers particularly. This drove the stock down 10%. At the same time, it became clear that it had become the dominant social media presence in the world's largest nation based on population. Daily active users of its Instagram platform are rising at a level that is hard to imagine. Meta should abandon the AI sector, where it is already a loser, for it, and one where it cannot catch up. It should focus on its core business, which is doing better than expected.
Meta's top line growth rate remains impressive based on its size. In the quarter, revenue rose 28% to $60.8 billion, which keeps it on track to be one of the largest companies in America by that yardstick. Ad impressions were almost as strong and were up 14% year over year. These are the company's revenue engine.

As Mark Zuckerberg keeps steering Meta (NASDAQ: META) in the wrong direction, his net worth keeps falling. It is down $25 billion this year and is still dropping, to $209 billion. That puts him barely ahead of Michael Dell, who is at $204 billion.
Zuckerberg can blame the entire drop on his decision to march Meta into AI competition with companies that include OpenAI, Anthropic, and Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG), which are well ahead. Based on all evidence, Meta won't catch up. Its earnings made it clear he continues to double down on AI anyway. That showed up in earnings.

The Connecticut Sun player filed for divorce on Thursday in the Superior Court of Fulton County, Georgia, according to court documents obtained by ABC News.

The petition states that the couple, who were married in June 2018, have been been separated since July 24, 2026, and that the marriage "is irretrievably broken" with "no hope of reconciliation."
