There are no transgender women actually attempting to play in the WNBA–Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White don't count–but Julie Tetart is coming off a reportedly dominant campaign for Monaco Basket **** ociation in France's Ligue Féminine 2.
Tetart averaged 21.2 points and 20.2 rebounds per game during the 2025-26 season, leading the league in both categories. Two of Tetart's teammates recently sat down for an interview with the French podcast "Club Five," during which they compared facing the 6-foot-3 forward, who is listed at 195 pounds.
Martina Bestagno, a 6-foot-3 center, compared her experience "really big players such as Brittney Griner (6-foot-9, 219 pounds) and Isabelle Yacoubou (6-foot-3, 220-229 pounds)" to Tetart and said that while Griner and Yacoubou are "probably bigger" than the 34-year-old transgender standout, size isn't all that matters.
"It's not just the size, it's the combination of size and strength," Bestagno said. "That is something that I never went against it before. Of course, we're playing with her, but during the week, you're going against her in practice and it's something that I never had to face before. I was blown away by the difference talking about strength. The difference is huge."
Sara Crudo, a 6-foot-1 forward who appeared alongside Bestagno, said facing Tetart is "like a train that is coming into you."

Brittney Griner lands back on injury report before Sun-Liberty showdown originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Connecticut Sun may be staring at a brutal frontcourt problem before Saturday's matchup with the New York Liberty. Connecticut listed Brittney Griner as questionable because of a lingering left knee injury. Forward Aaliyah Edwards also received a questionable designation with a left ankle injury.
Losing either player would be damaging. Losing both against Breanna Stewart, Jonquel Jones and a surging Liberty team could leave the Sun facing one of their most difficult challenges of the season.
Connecticut will host New York at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday at Mohegan Sun Arena. The Sun enter the game at 8-24 after suffering their sixth loss in seven games, while the Liberty have won eight of their last 10.
Griner has been dealing with the knee issue for nearly a month. The 35-year-old center sustained the injury during Connecticut's 72-63 loss to the Phoenix Mercury on July 19. She played 31 minutes before exiting and subsequently missed four consecutive games.

WNBA star Brittney Griner has filed for divorce from her wife, Cherelle Griner, ending eight years of marriage, in Fulton County, Georgia, on Thursday, July 30. The two were married in 2018 but had been living separately since July 24, as per court documents obtained by People. The Connecticut Sun center was already out of the playing lineup due to her left knee injury.
Griner met her 33-year-old partner during her college days at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. They also share a two-year-old son, named Bash. The player is seeking joint custody for their son.
Griner was embroiled in controversy when she was detained in Russia in February 2022, after she was found in possession of vape cartridges with cannabis oil.
Griner's wife, who is an attorney, was her advocate in that case. The player was released on December 8 of the same year in a prison exchange for Viktor Bout.
Cherelle Griner and her WNBA partner were together during the most difficult period of their lives in 2022. After the Russian authorities detained her, she was sentenced to nine years in prison. When she returned home to her then-wife, Griner had a long recovery process, and Cherelle was there for her.

Brittney Griner ruled out again as Sun make additional roster decision before Sky game originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Connecticut Sun will remain without one of their biggest stars as they attempt to end a difficult losing streak Thursday night. Connecticut officially ruled Brittney Griner out of its road matchup against the Chicago Sky because of a left knee injury. It will be the third consecutive game missed by the veteran center, who has been one of the Sun's most productive players when healthy this season.
Griner's status was not the only news to emerge from Connecticut's final availability report. Shortly before the game, the Sun announced that rookie guard Ashlon Jackson also would not be available because of a coach's decision.
The two absences leave Connecticut shorthanded for an important meeting between teams searching for momentum near the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings.
Griner has not appeared in a game since Connecticut faced the Phoenix Mercury on July 19. The 10-time WNBA All-Star finished that matchup with 19 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots in 31 minutes. She has now been sidelined for three straight contests while dealing with the left knee injury.

Indiana Fever star guard Sophie Cunningham once again brought back her notorious pointing meme with former Phoenix Mercury teammate and pal Brittney Griner on Wednesday night.
As Cunningham's Fever took on Griner's Connecticut Sun in Indianapolis, the two joked around pregame with Cunningham's famous pointing meme. We're pretty sure at this point Cunningham will be doing the pointing meme for the rest of her life; it's just broken out in a way most sports moments can't in this rampant attention economy.
While Griner didn't play on Wednesday with a knee injury, it was great to see these old friends share a laugh.
Pointing memes for everyone!
Next Tuesday in Seattle.

Brittney Griner sparks coaching buzz with latest off-court move during WNBA season originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Brittney Griner is still making a major impact on the floor for the Connecticut Sun, but her latest social media post has WNBA fans thinking about what could come after her playing career. The veteran center, who has enjoyed another productive season in Connecticut, revealed this week that she's spending time studying game film and learning the finer points of coaching. The post quickly sparked excitement among fans, many of whom believe Griner could eventually become a successful WNBA head coach.
While Griner remains focused on helping the Sun this season, her willingness to dive into the coaching side of basketball offered a glimpse at a possible next chapter once her playing days eventually come to an end.
Griner shared a video on Threads showing herself breaking down film from the Indiana Fever's game against the Chicago Sky. Rather than casually watching the matchup, the Sun star explained she was evaluating Indiana's post play and putting together scouting notes, adding that she plans to continue watching more games as she learns the coaching process.
"Taking this coaching thing seriously," Griner wrote alongside the video.

There's no stopping the Clatsop County Special Olympic athletes. Brittney Clarke and Jacob McCarr competed in three different events at the 2026 USA Games in Minneapolis. Clarke won gold in the 400-meter walk and also medaled in the 4 x 100-meter relay and mini javelin. McCarr placed fifth in the shot put, was a member of the second-place co-ed 4 x 100 relay team and competed in the 100-yard dash. After Clarke and McCarr brought home medals, Clarke and the rest of the athletes in Clatsop County Special Olympics are set to go on the road and compete this weekend.
The 2026 Oregon Summer Games are slated for July 10 through the 12, and are slated to take place at Oregon State University in Corvallis. Twenty Clatsop County Special Olympics athletes are set to compete in two sports: track and field and bocce ball.
Clarke will lead a list of 12 total track and field athletes. She will be joined by Alex Cary, Joey Bailey, Nicholas Bailey, Blake Chick, Mathias Costello, Marie Kajula, Jack Kain, Jonathan Lempea, Beau Routh, Cheyenne Valunzuela, Megan Wilson and coaches Bill and Karen Lempea. There will also be seven community members going as volunteers, including: Phil and Julie Chick, Michael and Danielle Cary, Clatsop County Special Olympics Program Director David McAloney, Susan Hiebert and Tracie Hunter.
Bocce is one of the newer sports added to the Special Olympics calendar this year and Clatsop County has a total of eight athletes participating this weekend: Brandi Higgins, Angelica Lizarraga, Ben Johnson, David Killion, Jesse Banks, Jerry Allen, Jackie Bleech and Nikki Fletcher. Coaches Patty Kain and Brenda Higgins will also travel with the athletes.
The Italian based game has slowly been gaining popularity in America after getting its start in Italy and other European countries. The lawn game is similar to bowling where teams roll large ******* to try and get them as close as possible to a smaller target called a pallino. It can be played on either grass, sand or a dedicated hardcourt. Italian General Giuseppe Garibaldi popularized the game in Italy during the late 19th century and it has since become an Olympic sport.

So, about those 53 points.
For the third time in WNBA history, a player scored 53 points in a single game that ended in regulation, with the latest addition maybe the most surprising of the bunch. The Toronto Tempo’s Marina Mabrey, who has never even made an All-Star team, lit up the Los Angeles Sparks in a 125-97 win Friday by making 17 of 28 from the floor and 10 of 12 free throws, tying A’ja Wilson and Liz Cambage for the highest-scoring game in league history.
In the process, Mabrey also tied the record for most 3-pointers in a game (nine), a mark she also equaled two games prior. Of the nine times a player has hit nine triples in a game, three came in a two-week stretch this season: these two by Mabrey and Las Vegas’ Chelsea Gray on June 11.
Mabrey has been on quite the heater this calendar year, starting with a 47-point performance in Unrivaled on Jan. 30. That court is smaller, but she put up that total in just over 21 minutes and hit 10 3-pointers. Three of her seven 30-point WNBA games have come this season with Toronto, and with Brittney Sykes injured, Mabrey is cooking even more. She set a career high on June 19 with 37 points (the first game in which she hit nine 3s) before exploding for her 53 on Thursday.
Mabrey is playing for the most offensive-minded head coach of her WNBA career in Sandy Brondello, but she’s also playing in the friendliest offensive environment in league history. WNBA teams were averaging 86.4 points per game entering Sunday, nearly five points higher than last year’s mark of 81.7. The league’s highest previous scoring average, outside of the 2020 bubble (83.1 points), was 82.7 per game in 2023. Efficiency is at its highest with a leaguewide effective field-goal percentage of 51.1 percent. Per Across the Timeline, there have been 58 games in WNBA history where both teams have scored at least 100 points; 10 have come in the 2026 season. Kamilla Cardoso also set a record this past week with 13 made field goals and no misses in a win over Portland.
Brittney Griner passed a WNBA legend and keeps climbing the all-time rankings originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Brittney Griner has already secured her place among the greatest players in WNBA history. The Connecticut Sun center is a champion, a multiple-time Defensive Player of the Year, a perennial All-Star and one of the most dominant interior forces the league has ever seen. Now she can add another milestone to an already remarkable resume.
During Connecticut's game against the Indiana Fever on Saturday, Griner moved past one of the most respected players in league history and continued her climb up the WNBA's all-time field goals made list. The achievement came in a difficult afternoon for the Sun, who fell 85-75 to Indiana at Mohegan Sun Arena. Despite the loss, Griner's place in the record book became one of the game's notable storylines.
Griner entered the contest needing just one basket to move ahead of Hall of Famer Tamika Catchings on the WNBA's career field goals made leaderboard. She reached the milestone during the game, recording the 2,390th made field goal of her career and moving into 12th place all-time.
Following the game, the Sun celebrated the accomplishment on social media.

NEW YORK (AP) — Breanna Stewart had 14 points, 12 rebounds and a career-high seven blocks to help the New York Liberty beat the Washington Mystics 86-64 on Sunday and clinch a spot in the Commissioner's Cup championship game.
Jonquel Jones scored 17 of her 20 points in the second half to lead the Liberty (10-4), who have won seven straight games.
The Liberty have made the finals of the mid-season tournament three times, winning once and losing once. Now, New York must wait to find out its finals opponent and whether or not it will host the **** le game. That will come down to whether the Liberty or the Western Conference representative has a better overall record.
The game marked the return of Sabrina Ionescu, who missed the last seven Liberty games with back soreness. Playing just her second game after she had an ankle injury to start the season, Ionescu checked in midway through the first quarter and received a loud ovation from the crowd.
She had a trio of stellar passes in the first quarter, the third of which led to an open 3-pointer for Leonie Fiebich, which gave New York a 20-13 advantage. The Liberty were up 36-28 at the half as Stewart had 11 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks in the opening 20 minutes. She's only the second player to have at least 10 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks in a half in WNBA history, joining Brittney Griner.

On a night where the main storyline was Brittney Griner’s first game against her former side, the Atlanta Dream, Angel Reese decided it was her time to shine and prove to everybody that she’s the worthy replacement for the 10-time WNBA All-Star.
As the Connecticut Sun led the game by four points with just a minute left in the third quarter, Atlanta needed someone to step up to prevent them from crumbling down.
Looking to prove that she’s been brought in by the Dream for this particular moment, Reese steadied herself from the three-point line and decided it’s time for her to shine. She received a pass from Jordin Canada and decided to take the three-pointer. To the surprise of everybody inside The Gateway Center Arena, Reese sank the shot, sending everybody into a frenzy.
Following her three-pointer, the Dream went on a 7-0 run and finished the third quarter with a three-point advantage. They used that momentum to extend the run to 10-0 to start the fourth quarter and never looked back as they cruised to a 91-75 win.
After the game, Dream head coach Karl Smesko peppered Reese with praise.
