Meta Platforms (META) stock is riding a near 20% rally this month with shares boosted by optimism about its Muse AI agent app and, more recently, custom chips. The next test for Meta's rally comes next week.
Meta is hosting its annual Connect developer conference starting Wednesday. Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg typically uses the event to preview the company's slate of application updates and new hardware. Last year's event focused on Meta's Ray-Ban Display smart glasses.

In March, shortly after the Supreme Court struck down President Donald Trump's International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) tariffs and paved the way for $100 billion in import taxes being redistributed back to American importers, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer shared his idea of what these companies should do with this influx of cash.
"If I were these companies, and somehow they get this windfall, the most important thing and the smartest thing they should do is give it as bonuses to their workers," Greer told CNBC.
It appears some companies have heeded Greer's suggestion. As businesses receive more than $100 billion the U.S. Treasury has doled out in refunds since May, many are vowing to lower prices or pay down debts. A handful, however, are giving the cash back to their employees.
In its second quarter earnings report last month, houseware brand Williams Sonoma said it would allocate $10 million for one-time payments to 401(k) accounts to eligible employees "in recognition of their efforts navigating the IEEPA tariffs."
"We're so appreciative to have the money back and to be able to reward our employees with part of it," President and CEO Laura Alber said on an earnings call. "They have done such an amazing job."

Changing jobs is looking lucrative again.
Base pay for job changers in the private sector increased 4.7% in August, compared to 3% for job stayers, according to the latest report from payroll provider ADP.
When you consider gross pay, which includes tips, commissions, and bonuses, wages for job stayers rose 4.4% year over year, while gross pay for job changers increased substantially more: 7.3%.
In another recent report, the job-jumping news was just as promising.
The median pay increase for workers switching jobs rose to 5% last month from 4.4% in July, according to new data from the Atlanta Fed. For those who stay put, the average pay increase was 3.6%, the same as in July.

One of the 26 fighters competing Saturday at UFC 331 will walk away with an extra $50,000 in their pocket.
UFC CEO Dana White announced on Monday there will be a special bonus in play during the event in Los Angeles. In honor of hit Paramont+ series "MobLand", there will be an extra bonus. That will be on top of the regular four $100,000 Fight Night bonuses – Fight of the Night (which is earned by two fighters in the most exciting bout), and two individual Performance of the Night awards.
White didn't reveal the exact criteria for the bonus or what exactly he'll be looking for, but he did name it the "proper chaos bonus" and said it'll be up to him to determine the winner.

The news that Tucker Kraft signed a new contract ahead of the Green Bay Packers' 2026 season opener has fired up former teammates, current teammates and fans.
Kraft is getting a four-year contract extension worth $75 million, plus a $26.5 million signing bonus, reports PackersNews' Tom Silverstein.
The tight end signed the contract in Lambeau Field facilities on Saturday before the team departed for Minneapolis for the Week 1 game against the Minnesota Vikings.
Kraft, entering his fourth season, is making his highly anticipated return to game action after he tore his ACL in a Nov. 2 game last season.

Tommy McMillen doesn't always make it look pretty but he sure knows how to put on a show as he won a back-and-forth war against Marwan Rahiki at Noche UFC on Saturday.
The featherweights battled it out over three rounds with Rahiki nearly scoring a finish in the second round and then McMillen storming back to win the third round and the fight. It was a wild affair but when the final horn sounded, McMillen had done enough for the victory with the judges scoring the fight 29-28, 29-28 and 29-27 in his favor.
"Let's go Arizona!" McMillen shouted to his home audience. "He had a pretty good second round, busted me up a little bit but I knew I could out dog him.
"Tomorrow morning, I'm going hopt on a [plane] to Vegas and I'll be there on Dec. 12 waiting on my next victim and my next $100K bonus."
An early takedown opened the fight for McMillen but Rahiki was quick to break free and get back to the feet. The featherweights were just standing and banging with both landing some solid strikes along the way. A late pair of right hands from McMillen definitely caught Rahiki off guard as they continued blasting away at each other.

MELBOURNE, Australia - The San Francisco 49ers defeated the Los Angeles Rams in convincing fashion in their season-opener Friday afternoon (Thursday night in the United States), 27-7, at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
After arriving in Australia a week before kickoff, the 49ers looked far more energized than the Super Bowl-favorite Rams, who touched down just more than 24 hours before the game and appeared visibly exhausted. The Baltimore Ravens have undergone significant changes entering the 2026 season, but elite talent, depth, and versatility remain central to their pursuit of a championship. DBS has introduced two new payment cards, Chromo and TravelLah!, aimed at spending habits and preferences among Gen Z customers in Singapore.
The Singapore-headquartered lender stated that both products are designed to help young adults "maximise rewards" on daily spending and "get more value" when they spend overseas.
DBS launched Chromo on 5 September. It described Chromo as the first credit card in Singapore designed to "automatically adapt" to the spending habits of Gen Z customers.
The card provides bonus cashback on a customer's top two eligible local spending categories each month, removing the need for cardholders to pre-select categories.

After weeks focused on his fledgling career, Keon Johnson caught up with family. The Houston Astros had the 18-year-old infielder and recent draft pick and his family attend Sunday's game at Daikin Park, with Johnson arriving from their minor-league facility in West Palm Beach, Fla., late Saturday.
"It was a pretty surreal moment to finally see them again," Johnson said. "Once I got to see them, it was like pretty much all the weight finally got back off my shoulders again."
The Astros selected Johnson in the third round in the July draft, with the No. 93 overall pick, out of First Presbyterian Day School in Macon, Ga. They signed Johnson, who was committed to play at Vanderbilt, for a reported over-slot $2 million bonus. Slot value for the No. 93 pick this year was $846,900.
A shortstop listed at 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, Johnson was selected as the Gatorade Georgia high school player of the year as a junior in 2025. Astros director of amateur scouting Cam Pendino deemed him an "unbelievably impressive kid" with an "exciting blend of bat-to-ball and pitch recognition" after the draft.
"We think our hitting instruction can really help unlock the contact quality here," Pendino said in July. "But when you have a guy with a special blend of bat-to-ball and approach - and really specifically bat-to-ball and pitch recognition as an 18-year-old kid with really good actions in the middle of the diamond on the dirt - it's an awesome recipe."

Los Angeles Rams DE Aaron Donald's new contract will pay him a base salary of $10 million for the 2026 season, another $10 million in roster bonuses and an additional $10 million based on playoff incentives and playing time, the latter of which should be easily achievable even if he is part of a rotation.
