PETOSKEY — Lily Flynn could have had a totally different approach to her senior season on the volleyball court.
An outside hitter for Petoskey throughout her career, Flynn was asked to change positions, leaving behind the glory of racking up kills for the back row as a libero.
She would also spend most of the season surrounded by players she didn't grow up playing with, as freshmen and sophomores filled the court, including a pair that would step into that outside job.
"I kept asking, 'Yes, no? Are you good with this?' And she was," Petoskey coach Erin Luckhardt said. "That's not a role that she's played before. She's played back row, but playing back row exclusively is different for her and she's stepped into it and done a great job."
Flynn's attitude to change and an up and down 2026 campaign wasn't the kind you might expect.

La Stampa reports that part of the Juventus dressing room is unhappy with Luciano Spalletti's methods, particularly because the Tuscan coach spends too much time talking, which reduces the intensity of training.
Juventus are preparing for a crucial Serie A match against Napoli, and coach Spalletti has ordered the team into a two-day training retreat.

The Italian tactician is on the brink, having only earned 14 points in nine Serie A games so far this season, losing two of the last three games.
On Thursday, after a 2-0 loss to Genoa, CEO Giovanni Carnevali gave a stern dressing-room speech, asking the players to take responsibility for the poor results so far.

The Detroit Red Wings have spent months answering questions about Dylan Larkin. Following Thursday night's victory over the Chicago Blackhawks, head coach Todd McLellan made it clear that he's ready to talk about something else.
Winning hockey games.
Just hours after the organization officially suspended Larkin without pay, the Red Wings delivered an impressive 4-1 victory at Little Caesars Arena.
And afterward, McLellan had a message that should tell everyone exactly where his priorities stand.

Sebastian Cheeks has spearheaded one of the best defenses in the nation this season. The Wisconsin Badgers rank inside the top 10 in total yards allowed per game at 276.5, all while allowing a stout 16.3 points per game, which ranks 13th-best in the country. Cheeks joined the Badgers ahead of the 2024 season after spending two seasons at UNC. Cheeks' first two seasons saw him flash at times, but overall, he never jumped out as one of the Big Ten's biggest stars. That was until now. So far this season, Cheeks has tallied 26 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, five sacks, and two forced fumbles. In Wisconsin's upset 24-7 win over USC this past weekend, Cheeks pulled together five tackles and 2.5 sacks, earning him conference acclaim.
Cheeks was recently tipped as a potential NFL draft pick by draft expert Mel Kiper thanks to his do-it-all archetype.
Luke Fickell's squad has just five games on the season; up next is the 5-2 Iowa Hawkeyes inside what is bound to be an electric Kinnick Stadium. Kickoff is set for 12 PM ET and is the Big Noon Kickoff game for FOX.

The Washington Commanders appear to be making a change with their latest addition. Last week, the Commanders hired former NFL head coach and longtime defensive ****** istant Steve Wilks to a role on the coaching staff. According to head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Adam Peters, Wilks would spend part of the week in Ashburn working on game planning with the coaching staff and would not be involved in on-field player instruction.
For the first time since his hire became official, defensive coordinator Daronte Jones spoke about what Wilks brings to the Commanders.
"That was something that we had talked about back in training camp, but just for the value of experience that he has, we felt like we could use his resources and his expertise in some categories and experience," Jones said on Thursday.
Jones was asked whether Wilks' presence would let him, as a first-time NFL defensive coordinator, focus on other areas.
"Yeah, still working through how. It definitely does free me up in certain ways and just still manufacturing, working through how exactly we wanna disperse that, the workspace. So, we're still working through those a little bit."

DETROIT — There was a lot going on Thursday in Detroit.
Let's start where it ended: The Chicago Blackhawks lost to the Red Wings 4-1 at Little Caesars Arena in their ugliest performance of the season.
The Hawks fell to 0-5 on the road and 4-9-0 overall and cap their two-game trip against the 9-4-1 Boston Bruins on Saturday in a Halloween matinee. It was their fifth straight game scoring two goals or fewer.
But the chaos of the day started hours earlier when Red Wings coach Todd McLellan announced that center Dylan Larkin would not play.
Larkin had told the Red Wings he no longer wanted to play for the organization and reiterated his trade demand. The team suspended him without pay Thursday, costing him $41,000 per day in salary and drawing ire from Red Wings fans who already were upset with the former captain.

Justin Haley endured a challenging afternoon during Friday's Love's RV Stop 225 at Talladega Superspeedway, finishing 20th after an early tire problem disrupted his race. The Kaulig Racing driver started 17th and led two laps before encountering difficulties.
Haley initially demonstrated competitive speed in his No. 16 Ram, moving toward the front during the opening stage. However, his afternoon changed on Lap 13 when a flat tire forced him to slow while running in traffic. Contact from Kaden Honeycutt briefly sent Haley sideways, but he managed to save the truck and return to pit road without triggering a caution.
The unscheduled stop cost Haley valuable track position and forced him to spend much of the remainder of the event attempting to recover. Despite the setback, he remained competitive during the second stage, finishing ninth and collecting two additional points.
The final stage featured multiple accidents and an overtime finish, but Haley could not regain the lost laps. He ultimately completed 84 laps and finished 20th, two laps behind winner Sammy Smith. Haley earned 19 points and maintained 14th in the overall NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series standings with 475 points.
He will look to finish the season strongly at Martinsville and Homestead-Miami.

DETROIT (AP) — Viktor Arvidsson scored his sixth career hat trick and added an ***** ist as the Detroit Red Wings overcame the suspension of former captain Dylan Larkin with a 4-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday.
The third four-point game of Arvidsson's career gave Detroit a 5-1-1 record over its last seven games. Lucas Raymond added a power-play goal and Alex DeBrincat had two ***** ists. John Gibson made 18 saves, including one on Frank Nazar's second-period penalty shot.
Connor Bedard scored for the Blackhawks, who are 0-5 on the road this season. Spencer Knight stopped 25 shots.
The Red Wings suspended Larkin without pay prior to the game. Larkin, who requested a trade during the offseason, through his agent said would no longer play for the organization. Larkin has two goals and six ***** ists in 10 games this season, including the tying goal during a shootout victory at Edmonton on Monday.
Bedard scored at 5:59 of the first period, backhanding a rebound of Wyatt Kaiser's shot. After the Red Wings wasted three power plays, they scored at even strength to tie it. Arvidsson deflected William Wallinder's shot from the point past Knight at 7:31 of the second period.

Jones spent time in Atlanta as both a quarterback and head coach, leaving a unique mark on the franchise's history.
The Atlanta Falcons have lost another familiar figure from their history, as former quarterback and head coach June Jones passed away on Thursday at the age of 73.
Jones had a lengthy football career that took him across the NFL, college football, and beyond, but his connection to Atlanta was particularly unique. It's not often that a player gets the opportunity to return to the same franchise as a coach, much less lead the team as its head coach. Jones was one of the rare individuals who experienced both sides of that relationship with the Falcons.
Jones originally joined Atlanta as an undrafted quarterback in 1977, spending five seasons with the franchise through 1981. Primarily serving as a backup, he appeared in 17 games and threw for 923 yards and three touchdowns. His playing career wasn't particularly memorable statistically, but his time in Atlanta would prove to be just the beginning of his relationship with the franchise.
After transitioning into coaching, Jones eventually returned to Atlanta in 1991 as offensive coordinator under Jerry Glanville. When Glanville departed following the 1993 season, Jones was promoted to head coach, a position he held from 1994 through 1996.

Bo Bichette's decision to opt into a second year with the Mets was not a surprise to anyone in the organization. He had one of the worst statistical seasons of his career offensively – not exactly the kind of year players try to ride into free agency. He spoke glowingly of new manager Andy Green. And he seemed to find comfort in the clubhouse and on the New York stage – as if he had arrived with something to prove and finally remembered he was capable of proving it.
But while the Mets have expected for several weeks now that Bichette would be back, his return nevertheless qualifies as crucial to their offseason. With Bichette, the Mets lineup in 2027 will include all the key components of a group that posted the fifth-best OPS in the majors after August 1… even with Juan Soto injured for part of that time.
The top of the order looked versatile and energetic when Francisco Lindor was healthy and leading off and Soto was healthy and hitting second and Bichette was behind them, putting the ball in play with Carson Benge there to drive everyone in. Bichette's return means the Mets can build on the offense they unearthed late last year, rather than having to reconfigure it.
But because Bichette's decision was not a surprise, expectations for the Mets season should not pivot because of it. They still need, and plan to pursue, starting pitching. They will still explore options to upgrade offensively at first base, though exactly how high they will aim – and how much money or prospect capital they are willing to spend there – remains unclear.
And they still seem likely to give one of their infield prospects a chance somewhere in the majors next season. With Bichette back, the most obvious place for a prospect to elbow in would be second, though because Bichette has also played second base, the Mets could make room for a prospect at third.

After the Green Bay Packers forced the Carolina Panthers to go three-and-out, Green Bay was able to drive 90 yards down the field and retake the lead on a one-yard touchdown run from running back Josh Jacobs. It is his first rushing touchdown of the season after being suspended the first six games of the year.
Here is a look at Jacobs' touchdown, courtesy of the NFL's official social media:
His touchdown was set up by a 53-yard reception from Christian Watson. However, Watson was injured on the play and is questionable to return. There was also a quesitonable unnecessary roughness penalty on Carolina that got the Packers closer to the end zone.
With Green Bay up 13-10, the Panthers were trying to respond with another scoring drive of their own. However, Carolina quarterback Bryce Young was intercepted on a tipped ball to set the Packers with good field position.

President Trump recently joked at a rally in Texas that the $5,000 payments he's promised if Republicans win the midterm elections would only get Americans "a hamburger and maybe a small dessert" at his Mar-a-Lago club.
The president has vowed to give every American adult $5,000 if Republicans retain majorities in the House and the Senate after the midterm elections on Nov. 3. Data centers have emerged as a national issue during this midterm election cycle, and candidates for the House and Senate have seized on it in their campaigns.
But state and local officials actually have more sway over data center construction and energy infrastructure, so the winners of lower-profile races may hold the economy's future in their hands.

With Election Day just over a week away and early voting already in full swing in many states, expectations for big Democratic gains could weigh on the stock market, which has sold off in recent days on fears the AI boom will go bust.

As per an author, Queen Camilla and Prince William's meeting has triggered an unforeseen development. The news emerges amid royal family tensions heightened since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's UK return. The Duke of Sussex is now in the headlines after expressing his wish to reconcile with the royal family.
Queen Camilla's first meeting with Prince William reportedly left her so flustered that she instantly needed a gin and tonic. The claim comes from a royal biographer who detailed the seemingly awkward context of their first introduction.
In her biography "Queen Consort: The Life of Queen Camilla," author Penny Junor revisited the meeting. She wrote that the Queen Consort had even offered to step out of the house to avoid causing William any discomfort.
King Charles reportedly brushed off her worries, calling them "ridiculous," and went ahead with plans for her to meet his son after school. They scheduled the introduction for around 7 pm. But the royal heir showed up four hours ahead of time, giving her far less time to get ready than she had expected.
Rather than delaying the moment, Charles apparently urged them to face the unease head-on. However, after spending around 30 minutes with her future stepson, the former ***** ss of Cornwall reportedly came out of the meeting and said, "I need a gin and tonic."

Suze Orman favors quality dividend-paying stocks over bonds for retirees, arguing rising dividends better protect income from inflation than fixed coupons.
A $500,000 Treasury at 4.96% yields $24,800 annually, but a dividend portfolio growing 6% yearly surpasses that income after roughly nine years.
Retirees with a spending gap should hold five years of that gap in Treasuries, TIPS, or CDs to avoid selling stocks during a downturn.

Enzo Maresca had predicted Phil Foden would score, and he did score. For much of Foden's career that would scarcely have seemed an outlandish prediction. Not now. Foden's had struck 27 times for Manchester City alone in 2023-24. Yet when Ipswich arrived at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, his drought spanned 35 games for City, plus two for England that may have cost him a place at the World Cup.
But there are two Fodens. Maresca remembered the teenage prodigy, the player who had won the individual awards, the seeming generational talent before he became the goal-shy City substitute. "With Phil I said many times, I know him from years ago, for me he's one of the best Premier League players," said the City manager, who had worked with Foden in his previous times at the Etihad Stadium. "And since day one it's my duty to help him to again be one of the best players."
That process got off to something of a false start. By the time City kicked off against Ipswich Foden had, in effect, sat out four-and-three-quarter games. His first-half red card in the Manchester derby was followed by a three-match domestic suspension. He was an unused substitute in the Champions League defeat against Paris Saint-Germain.
Even before being banned, he had been usurped, and under successive managers. In first Pep Guardiola's valedictory season and then Maresca's first in charge, Rayan Cherki has been the No 10 who has starred and sparkled. Foden has provided less magic. Perhaps it says something for the luxuries Maresca enjoys that Foden has felt the more prosaic player in his position.
Perhaps it is an added complication, too, that in Enzo Fernandez he has costly competition emerging, with the £125m signing spending the second half against PSG operating as the most advanced of the midfield trio. A lesson of that defeat may be that, against elite opposition, Maresca requires both Ayyoub Bouaddi and Elliot Anderson to anchor the midfield, perhaps meaning Fernandez is the most advanced of the trio.

After his team's first loss of the 2026-27 season last month, Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti received a fair bit of heat for how the Bianconeri totally lost its balance against Sassuolo. After their second loss of the season, Sunday's 3-0 defeat at the hand of surprise package Lazio at the Allianz Stadium in Turin, the heat has seemingly been turned up to a degree in which Spalletti hasn't seen since the final weeks of the 2025-26 campaign when Champions League qualification was slipping away.
And it sounds like, in some ways, Spalletti could see a little bit of the writing on the wall.
Amongst the many critiques that Spalletti — who was suspended for Sunday's loss as a result of his red card last weekend against Cagliari — had of his team's performance during his post-game media responsibilities, It was an answer to his current relationship with the team that raised plenty of eyebrows. Spalletti responded to the question "Until yesterday, I thought I could say yes, then today I probably don't know …" — something that will surely fuel speculation about just how much longer he might have on the Juventus sideline if his team continues to play the way they did against Lazio on Sunday night.
The quote, via multiple outlets, in English is as follows:
"If instead of improving we get worse, I have to do in-depth ****** ysis, especially on myself. Does the team still follow me? Until yesterday, I thought I could say yes, then today I probably don't know. I have a good relationship with them, I always want to share, that's how I am."

A TikTok video posted by ciearratati, which has amassed close to 815,000 views and 3,364 comments, describes a woman's preference for high-maintenance friendships. She explained that she believes real friendships are supposed to involve that level of closeness. Ciearra said her friends' needs and concerns are never too much for her to handle, and she would much rather have close, familiar friendships than distant ones.
Ciearra began by saying that once she considers someone a friend, they're never too high-maintenance for her because she will make time for them if they need to talk or video chat. Even if she just met someone the day before and they want to see her again, she doesn't mind because, in her view, that's what friends are for.
She said, "No, you're not acting like I'm your boyfriend. No, it's not too high-maintenance. No, I don't feel like you're smothering me." Ciearra continued by explaining that this level of closeness is exactly what she wants in a friendship because she thrives on the connection she has with the people she considers friends.
She explained, "This is literally what I want. I literally want to do life with human beings." She went on to say that she doesn't consider a friendship one where you barely see each other throughout the year. Instead, she believes real friends should naturally see each other more often, and she said she actually looks forward to spending time with her friends.
Ciearra stated, "No, I don't want to see you every quarter of the year. I wanna see you way more than that, actually. Why are we doing quarterly meetings? What is this, a business or a friendship?" Ciearra believes many people view real friendships as "high-maintenance" because they are used to giving and accepting the bare minimum.

Princess Eugenie's close ties with Meghan Markle have reportedly raised concerns that she could potentially be a "double agent." The daughter of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson is known to be close to both the Waleses and the Sussexes. Hence, sources claim that some palace insiders believe she cannot keep one foot in both camps and may eventually have to choose a side.
Princess Eugenie may need to decide whether she is on Meghan Markle's side or not. The 36-year-old shares a good bond with Meghan and Prince Harry, as well as Prince William and Kate Middleton. Now that Meghan and Harry are back in Britain for an extended stay, people are eager to see how their bond with Eugenie develops.
However, a source told Woman's Day that Meghan and Eugenie haven't seen much of each other recently. The reason, according to the source, is that both women are extremely busy. However, the source noted that it could also be a conscious decision on Eugenie's part. They reportedly believe that she may want to distance herself from Meghan.
After the large-scale controversy last year, Eugenie's parents, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson, were asked to leave the Royal Lodge. In fact, Andrew was even stripped of his ****** les. However, the ****** les of Eugenie and Princess Beatrice remained intact. Keeping that in mind, the source said that the growing consensus is that Eugenie wants to maintain friendly ties with the royals. If she is seen spending too much time with Meghan, it may not be a good look for her.
The source continued that palace insiders feel she "can't continue to have the best of both worlds." The insider added, "If she wants to stay on decent terms with the likes of William and Kate then she can't be seen as this double agent type of figure." Hence, they believe that she now needs to pick a side.
