Tracy Spiridakos recalls her "body flaws" being circled with Sharpie at a modeling agency meeting as a 17 year old.
"They said, 'You have to lose weight here, here, and here if you want to do this,'" she recounted.
The Chicago P.D. star described the meeting as a "gut punch," but says her "very protective" brother swooped in to defend her from the slight.
Before she played tough-as-nails detective Hailey Upton on Chicago P.D., Tracy Spiridakos learned the hard way how strong you need to be to survive a life in the spotlight.
Back when Spiridakos was 17, she won a modeling contest, which meant the Winnipeg, Canada native and one of her brothers packed up and took off for a meeting at a modeling agency. "I got there and they gave me a bikini and told me to put the bikini on and they were going to take some pictures," Spiridakos recalled on Monday's episode of the I've Never Said This Before podcast.

WASHINGTON, Aug 3 (Reuters) - The U.S. State Department has notified Congress that it plans to close five foreign missions in a rare downsizing of America's global diplomatic footprint, according ‌to people familiar with the notice.
In the notice sent to some congressional committees late last week, the State ‌Department said it planned to close its posts in St. George's, Grenada; Nagoya, ****** an; Medan, Indonesia; Douala, Cameroon; and Winnipeg, Canada. The people familiar with the notice spoke on the condition of anonymity because the notice was not public.
The expected closures, which have not been previously reported, represent a rare example of the U.S. closing multiple foreign missions in a downsizing that is not tied to a particular geopolitical event.
Early last year, during the opening months of the Trump administration, the State Department began preparations to shut down nearly ‌a dozen foreign missions, Reuters and other media outlets reported at the time, as part of a broader push by the Republican president to transform the U.S. bureaucracy so that it is fully aligned with his "America First" agenda.

After failing to win a chance at training camp to secure a spot as one of Lamar Jackson's backups, former Ravens quarterback Diego Pavia has entered the NFL's waiver system.
If unclaimed, what's next?
He could choose to wait for another NFL opportunity. Injuries could open a door for Pavia to participate in a training camp as an extra arm, which would in turn give him an opportunity to earn a 53-man roster spot or a position on a practice squad.
If there's no NFL interest, Pavia could go to the CFL. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers hold his negotiating rights, and they've made it clear that they are interested.
The UFL apparently has interest, too — if the social-media team has its finger on the pulse of the league's priorities. The league retweeted the announcement of Pavia's waiver by the Ravens with the eyes emoji.

In 1955, Sunderland embarked on an international tour for the first time since the pre-Second World War trip to Spain in 1935.
The North American tour was scheduled to last just under a month and would include nine matches in all, with four against Huddersfield Town, as well as games against Nuremberg, the Montreal All-Stars, the American Soccer League All-Stars and Philadelphia Uhrik Truckers. The venues included Ebbets Field, the home of the Brooklyn Dodgers baseball team, as well as stadiums in New York and Detroit in the USA, while Montreal, Winnipeg and Toronto made up the Canadian venues.
As the tour drew to a close on this day 69 years ago, Sunderland were preparing to take on Huddersfield for the fourth and final time. Having beaten them 3 – 2 in New York just under a month earlier, and drawn the other two meetings, Sunderland were looking for the victory that would categorically give them the bragging rights in the four-game series over their fellow First Division rivals.
Detroit was bathed in a searing 86-degree heat as a crowd of more than 7,000 gathered to watch two teams weakened by injury. Huddersfield were without Glazzard, while Sunderland were missing South African Ted Purdon and Ken Chisholm, who had both been amongst the goals.
The game had a little extra spice added even before kick-off. The two sides had played each other the previous day in Toronto in what turned out to be a fiercely competitive encounter.

Diego Pavia needs a new team.
The Albuquerque native and Heisman Trophy runner-up was waived Thursday by the Baltimore Ravens, the team announced via a report on its website.
A record-setting quarterback at Vanderbilt and New Mexico State, Pavia was signed as an undrafted free agent in late April to compete for Baltimore's third-string quarterback position behind Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley. He was later passed over the summer by Skylar Thompson and Joe Fangano, another undrafted free agent from Connecticut.
Pavia can now either sign with another NFL team to compete for a roster spot or possibly take his talents to another league: For instance, the Canadian Football League's Winnipeg Blue Bombers added him to their negotiation list in 2024, meaning the club will have exclusive rights to negotiate with him if he wishes to pursue an opportunity in the league.
The majority of NFL training camps begin next week.

The Winnipeg Jets' offseason may end up being defined by whether they trade Connor ****** ebuyck or not.
There's plenty more to be done as July arrives and NHL free agency opens, too.
The Jets are coming off a season that was worse than they would've hoped or expected, which puts a lot of pressure on getting things right this summer.
Hellebuyck's future leads the way, but every little move will matter as the Jets try to turn the ship back in the right direction.

Jun. 29—Following a dominant high school senior season, Wrangell's Boomchain Loucks on Friday became the first athlete in program history to be named Alaska Gatorade Player of the Year for boys track and field.
"I've had the pleasure of getting to know this young man for the last couple years," Sitka head coach Jeremy Strong said in a statement. "He's a great kid with a good heart. He seems to make connections wherever he goes. He trains in a town without a track oval and often without any training partners. He is process and goal-driven. His times and accomplishments speak for themselves. I can't think of another athlete who has experienced his level of individual success this year."
Loucks completed the middle-distance and distance triple crown at the Division II state championship meet by winning the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter races. He set a new personal best in the 800 with a time of 1:57.16, and cruised to a victory in the 1,600 with a mark of 4:19.55. His first-place time in the 3,200 of 9:37.24 nearly matched his season- and personal-best time of 9:31.78 from the Region V championships. He also ran Alaska's fastest 1,600 time of 2026, 4:18.62 at the Liberty Twilight meet.
This award also recognizes athletes for their academic rigor and exemplary character off the track. Loucks maintained a 3.74 GPA and volunteered locally with community clean-up days and with Tech Savvy Senior, a group that provides technology **** istance to elderly community members. He will compete in both track and field and cross-country for Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington.
Fairbanks' Landon Hafele on Saturday became the latest Alaska-born hockey player to be selected in the annual NHL Draft when he was taken in the sixth round at 167th overall by the Winnipeg Jets.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of the past weekend’s NHL Entry Draft, upcoming prospect camps, and free agency opening this Wednesday, another topic looms beneath the surface as the Winnipeg Jets continue to field trade pitches for their star goaltender, Connor ****** ebuyck. As most of us know already, one of those reported trade pitches, per Frank Serevalli, came from the Carolina Hurricanes, offering 24-year-old defenseman Alexander Nikishin and a late first-round draft pick last week.
According to The Athletic’s Murat Ates, sources confirmed that pitch was too low.
And so, that brings us to the question: How much will the Hurricanes have to cough up to add the Olympic gold medalist to their roster, and would it help them or hurt them in the long run?
Everyone who could use a shiny new netminder seems to be in on ****** ebuyck – and you can’t blame them. He was recognized as the best goalie in the NHL two years in a row, winning the Vezina Trophy in 2024 and 2025, as well as helping to secure the William M. Jennings Trophy – given to the team with the fewest goals against – for the Winnipeg Jets both years, and was awarded the Hart Trophy as the league MVP in 2025.
Outside of awards, his numbers have proved to be more than satisfactory, holding a save percentage above .900 for ten years straight, with his only year on record below that number having been last season, where he still notched a .895 SV% despite the Jets’ struggles.

NEW YORK (AP) — The NHL took the first step toward expansion in Texas earlier this week, agreeing to terms with billionaire Dan Friedkin and his family to explore the feasibility of putting a franchise in Houston or Austin.
Far enough from the Dallas Stars, who relocated from Minnesota in 1993, a new team would not interfere with their territorial rights. And the league has shown no fear of adding one team at a time, so No. 33 does not have to come with No. 34.
“Symmetry I don’t think should necessarily govern expansion,” Commissioner Gary Bettman said Tuesday. "You expand if you think it makes sense and enhances what the league has.”
Money is the obvious answer. Bettman said the total investment of the project would be some $3.5 billion, which would include expansion fees paid to established owners along with the cost of building a new arena.
The Houston Rockets' arena downtown is publicly owned but controlled by team owner Tilman Fertitta's Clutch City Sports and Entertainment group. The home of the American Hockey League's Texas Stars, in the Austin suburb of Cedar Park, has a capacity of 8,000 that is a little over half the size of the NHL's smallest current rink (Winnipeg).

The fallout from Brady Tkachuk‘s blockbuster move to the Florida Panthers has shifted attention toward another American star playing in Canada. That forward is Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews.
Shortly after the trade became official, SDPN Sports’ Drew Livingstone posted on X, writing, “First Quinn Hughes, now Brady Tkachuk. We know **** ebuyck is on the way out of Winnipeg. American Olympians just don’t want to play in Canada. Matthews next?”
MORE: Maple Leafs in ‘good place’ with Auston Matthews after Zoom meeting
The comment reflects growing speculation surrounding Matthews’ long-term future in Toronto. While there is no indication that Matthews has requested a trade, recent events have created fresh questions around his commitment beyond his current contract.
Matthews is signed through the 2027-28 season with a $13.25 million cap hit and holds a full no-movement clause. He is eligible for unrestricted free agency in July 2028.

The Canadian Football League has been providing die-hard pigskin enthusiasts with an early fix for their football yearnings each summer for decades.
Accordingly, the “three-down league” will kick off its 68th season on Thursday night with a Montreal Alouettes-Hamilton Tiger-Cats clash at Hamilton Stadium.
Week 1 consists of a three-game slate since the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Toronto Argonauts and B.C. Lions will open the season on a bye, and we’re honing in on a player prop bet apiece for each of the season-opening contests.
Theis put together an impressive rookie season in 2025 following a successful four-year run at South Dakota, rushing for 365 yards at 5.2 yards per carry and adding 162 receiving yards on 19 catches.
