"No, Ankit. It's called putting your own citizens first," Labor Department Inspector General Anthony D'Esposito wrote, arguing that American companies should prioritize American jobs and workers. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Chairman Andrew Ferguson, **** istant Attorney General for the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division Harmeet Dhillon, and Nalin Haley, the son of former South Carolina Gov. and U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, also publicly pushed back on Gupta's framing.
Gupta's X post came in response to Vance's call for American corporations to hire and train American workers when they need employees.

Jed York's weekend arrest wasn't the first time San Francisco 49ers ownership has found itself on the wrong side of the law – though, ironically, those past legal missteps are largely why York finds himself in such a prominent position now.
York, 46, who pleaded no contest Monday, Aug. 24, to two misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools in Columbiana County, Ohio, after a charge of "engaging in prostitution" was reduced, was, until recently, the NFL's youngest principal owner. That track largely became available to him starting in 2000, when his uncle, Pro Football Hall of Famer Eddie DeBartolo Jr., relinquished control of the team to his sister Denise DeBartolo York (Jed York's mother) and brother-in-law John York (Jed York's father).
Prior to that, DeBartolo was widely perceived as an owner whom stars throughout the league wanted to play for given his demand for championship football – the 49ers won five Super Bowls between the 1981 and 1994 seasons, none since – but also his willingness to spare no expense while caring for the members of his roster. (The Niners would eventually be hit with nearly $1 million in fines and forfeited a fifth-round draft pick in 2001 plus a third-rounder in 2002 after the NFL found them guilty of circumventing the salary cap, which came into existence in 1994, during a 1999 investigation.)
But DeBartolo's legal issues away from football ultimately drove him from the league. He pleaded guilty to one felony charge of failing to report an alleged extortion attempt in 1998 amid his attempt to obtain a riverboat gambling license in Louisiana. Former state governor Edwin Edwards allegedly attempted to extract $400,000 from DeBartolo amid his bid for the license. The NFL fined DeBartolo $1 million and suspended him for the 1999 season due to his involvement with Edwards, who was imprisoned on racketeering charges in 2002.
As for DeBartolo, who entered the Hall of Fame in 2016 and remains close to his former players – he presented former Niners coach Bill Walsh plus team and NFL legends Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Fred Dean and Charles Haley as they went into Canton – he never returned to the team as its controlling owner following the suspension.

Florida State senior Jack Whaley is still trying to process what he accomplished last week.
Days after capturing the U.S. Amateur Championship at Merion Golf Club on Aug. 16, Whaley returned to campus as the first Seminole golfer to win the prestigious Havemeyer Trophy and just the third Englishman to claim the ******* le, joining Matt Fitzpatrick (2013) and Harold Hilton (1911).
For Whaley, the victory represents the culmination of years of work and a remarkable rise from the NAIA ranks at Dalton State, where he set the record for shooting 8 under to win the national championship in 2025, to represent the Seminoles on one of amateur golf's biggest stages.
He credited head coach Trey Jones on Aug. 20 for bringing him to Tallahassee and grooming him into an elite golfer.
"It means the most," Whaley said. "For Coach (Trey) Jones and the coaching staff to take a chance on me last year after playing NAIA golf, and now to be sitting in this position, I can't thank them enough. For them to be there with me and experience it, I think it's an incredible memory for all of us, and something we'll cherish forever."

Still buzzing from his U.S. Amateur victory on Sunday at Merion, England's Jack Whaley was among the players named to the GB&I Walker Cup team by the R&A on Tuesday morning.
"I think I proved that I'm good in match play," Whaley said.
Whaley, whom captain Dean Robertson admitted was not in line to be selected for his debut until he lifted the Havemeyer Trophy to earn an automatic bid, joins six returners from last year's 17-9 defeat to the U.S. at Cypress Point: Englishmen Tyler Weaver, Luke Poulter and Eliot Baker, Scotland's Niall Shiels Donegan and Connor Graham, and British Amateur champion Stuart Grehan of Ireland; all six had previously secured their spots via the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
"He performed so well under the umbrella at Merion with his double gloves on, showcasing that he can not only perform brilliantly in the U.S., but he can perform in adverse weather, too," Robertson said of the 22-year-old Whaley, a rising senior at Florida State and one of seven U.S. college products representing GB&I. "Before last week, I wouldn't have seen Jack in the team, but after watching him, the talent that he's got and the humility that he's got and the way that he spoke, I'm really excited to welcome him."

FSU's men's golfer Jack Whaley won the 126th U.S. Amateur Championship on Sunday at the Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pennsylvania. He is the first Seminole to win the tournament.
The rising senior beat Stanford's Jay Leng Jr. 4&3 over 36 holes to become the first Englishman to win the tournament since Matt Fitzpatrick in 2013 and third overall since 1911. The win earned him a spot in The 2027 Open Championship at St. Andrews and the Walker Cup in September for Great Britain.
He won the first hole with a chip-in to take an early lead and went up two holes by parring the third hole. Leng tied the game on the 10th hole with back-to-back wins. Whaley responded by retaking the lead on the 11th hole before Leng took his first lead of the day on the 13th after winning back-to-back holes.
Whaley ended the first 18 holes trailing by two before they took a short break before playing the final 18 holes. He won four straight holes to go up two after 23 holes. Leng won the 24th, but secured birdies on the 26th and 28th holes to go up three.
He clinched the championship with a birdie putt on the 33rd hole.

ARDMORE, Pa. — Merion, the club and the course, is about as English as anything American thing could be, and Sunday here — for the finale of the 126th U.S. Amateur — was dank and wet and of-so-English. An Englishman was playing a kid from California. The Englishman won. Not a shocker.
There was something truly great about this Am, the whole seven days of it: six days of hot, dry golf leading to this rainy, cool Sunday; 312 players whittled down to two; and a final featuring two totally dissimilar golfers. Jack Whaley, deeply tanned and powerfully built, grew up in Doncaster, England, plays at Florida State and has a ready-for-the-Tour swing and a grind-it-out demeanor. Jay Leng Jr. grew up in San Diego, plays at Stanford, could not weigh 130 pounds, has a stance wider than Moe Norman's and a backswing shorter than Jon Rahm's, and follows no known playbook but his own. It was a delight watching these two go at it in this 36-hole final. Whaley won the match with a birdie on 15, the final nail in his 4-and-3 victory.
Arnold Palmer, who won this event in 1954, offered this as a swing tip for life: "Swing your swing." A cousin to you do you. Leng, winner of the Western Amateur earlier this summer who will represent the U.S. at next month's Walker Cup at Lahinch in Ireland, did not know Palmer's three-word phrase but understood its message. "I've always done things my own way and it seems to be working so I don't see any reason to change now," Leng said Sunday night, about to board a van for a ride back to the clubhouse as Whaley's new trophy was being brought to the 15th green.
By 14, Leng was playing without a hat, his black hair so wet he looked like he had just stepped out of a shower, his shirt close to soaked. Asked if he had learned anything over the course of the day about playing in the rain, he said, "Maybe carry more towels?" He was wet and worn out and tired. A U.S. Amateur can take a lot out of a guy, and so can golf in a steady rain.
Andy North won his two U.S. Opens playing in cold and wet conditions. He is now a member of the USGA executive committee — nice get, USGA! — and was at the award presentation. "Not a shock to see a player from England play so well in these conditions — you would think he has a lot of experience at it," North said Sunday night. "Playing in the rain really requires you to stay as dry as you possibly can while keeping your mind totally focused on the shots you have to make, never giving in to the rain for a second." Andy North was a master of keeping two towels in the spokes of his umbrella while playing in the rain, one for the grips, the other for his hands.

ARDMORE, Pa. — Andy Whaley couldn't believe his eyes. Standing at the back of Merion East's soaked 15th green, he smiled and laughed as his son, 22-year-old Jack Whaley, raised the Havemeyer Trophy after conquering the best amateur field in the world.
"Did I ever think he could win the U.S. Amateur? No. Did I ever think he'd win it this year? Absolutely not," Andy Whaley told GOLF with a laugh as his son did the post-win media car wash.
Andy and his wife, Kerry, were scheduled to fly home on Saturday night. "That tells you how confident we were," Andy Whaley said with a chuckle. Instead, Andy Whaley, carrying his son's bag for the first time in five or six years, changed his flight and set out to walk Merion for a final day with his son.
This week's U.S. Amateur at Merion was golf watching in its purest form. The famed golf course opened its doors to the world's best amateurs and local crowds flocked by the thousands to walk its fairways, raid the pro shop and watch the best amateur golf has to offer. It was a week for the true, die-in-the-wool golf fans who appreciate and understand what the game has always been about.
It was fitting that, during a week about Merion, the Hugh Wilson design outside Philadelphia remained the main star throughout the week. The world's best amateurs — Preston Stout, Miles Russell, Tyler Watts and others — all either failed to make it out of stroke play or made an early match play exit. This week was about getting to see Merion, one of the game's great cathedrals, without it being overrun by giant buildouts and throngs of fans. It was just the world's best ams and fans who wanted to soak in good golf at a place steeped in history. It was about the magic and mystique of a place we rarely see.

ARDMORE, Pa. – While the term cathedral is used to describe golf's greatest venues, the East Course at Merion Golf Club is arguably its most revered chapel, set on approximately 120 acres packed with history and some of the best golf holes in the world.
A step into the converted farmhouse that now serves as Merion's intricate clubhouse signifies a step back in time, with the club's famed archive room as the main vehicle.
The small, windowless room, established by George Scudder and now chaired by historian and 19-time Merion club champ John Capers III, is the main repository of Merion's history. It includes over 4,000 books and artifacts, including the standard from Justin Rose's 2013 U.S. Open victory, the unwashed striped, Merion-logoed polo Edoardo Molinari wore in winning the 2005 U.S. Amateur final, aerial images from Bobby Jones' slam-completing triumph at the 1930 U.S. Amateur, even some old horseshoes dug out of this historic dirt.
Jack Whaley will now have to part with his beloved Yorkshire County team rain jacket.

With skies finally clear on the rain-slogged course, Whaley sank his final putt to clinch the 36-hole final, 4 and 3, and hugged it out with his caddie — his father, Andy. Whaley's mother ran out to join them for a family embrace while Andy gripped the famed wicker basket flagstick.
Whaley broke down in tears as he held the Havemeyer Trophy and dedicated the win to his father, who never stopped encouraging his son to play, even as he kept missing cuts as a teenager.

The on-course form looked to be following the rankings as Whaley slipped two down after the opening 18 holes in Sunday's 36-hole encounter.
However, Whaley fought back superbly, making back-to-back birdies on the second and third holes of his second round on his way to winning four holes consecutively.

ARDMORE, Pa. – Andy Whaley shares a mantra with his son, Jack: Drive forward, see where you go, and just have fun along the way.
But golf hasn't always been enjoyable for Jack Whaley. As a kid and into his teenage years, it seemed like every big tournament he'd compete in, he'd leave disappointed, wondering if the financial sacrifices his family was making for him to pursue the sport competitively – and with little success – were worth it.
After one particularly frustrating junior event in Leeds, England, Jack told his dad that he didn't want to play golf anymore.
"It felt like every time I failed to make a cut, I was failing him," Jack said. "But every single time, he's like, 'Keep going, you've got this.' He's been behind me my entire life."
So, what did Andy do upon hearing his heartbroken son wished to quit the game? Remembering his own clubs were in the trunk, Andy began the 45-minute drive home to Doncaster, but just a few miles into the trip, he turned into the car park of a nine-hole municipal course.

Whaley, a senior at Florida State, next meets Stanford junior Jay Leng Jr., who never trailed in a match that felt like a struggle the entire day until he closed out Auburn sophomore Logan Reilly on the 17th hole.
It felt like a victory already for both finalists. They earned spots in the Masters and the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach next year, provided they are still amateurs.
"I'm still speechless right now," Leng said. "It will take at least until tonight to sink in."
Leng has not trailed in his last 42 holes going into the championship match, starting with the sixth hole of his match against third-ranked Tyler Watts in the round of 16.

Florida State rising senior Jack Whaley moved one step closer to one of amateur golf's most prestigious ****** les Saturday, earning a dramatic semifinal victory to advance to the championship match of the U.S. Amateur at Merion Golf Club.
With the win, Whaley becomes the first Florida State golfer to reach the U.S. Amateur final since Drew Kittleson accomplished the feat in 2008 at Pinehurst. Representing England, Whaley will face Stanford's Jay Leng in Sunday's 36-hole championship match.
Whaley secured his spot in the final with a hard-fought 1-up victory over No. 8 seed Carter Loflin in the semifinals.
The Seminole standout came out strong, winning the first two holes with birdies to take an early 2-up advantage. He extended the lead to 3 up with another birdie on the sixth hole before Loflin battled back and trimmed the deficit to one at the turn.
Whaley responded with birdies on the 10th and 12th holes to regain a three-hole cushion, but Loflin refused to go away. A birdie on No. 13 and a par on No. 15 helped Loflin pull within one before he squared the match on the 17th hole.

ARDMORE, Pa. – It was a record-breaking day as Merion Golf Club, welcomed the most ticketed fans for a U.S. Amateur in the championship's history. With attendance numbers pushing 3,000, the line to get into the pro shop remained wrapped around the clubhouse most the day, while the scene for the first tee as the four quarterfinal matches started was electric.
"I was totally shell-shocked by the amount of people that were out there, to be brutally honest," Georgia grad Carter Loflin said. "I've played in front of people before, but not like that. Honestly, it took me a minute to get used the gallery and everything. I looked at Brandon [Knight, his opponent] on the first tee, and I was like, 'Dude, I've never seen people four-deep like this before.'"
Added Jack Whaley: "It's one of the best experiences I've had playing golf."
And Logan Reilly: "Unbelievable atmosphere."
Unfortunately, the air was let out of the balloon early, and the thousands of fans clamoring to see some epic battles went home disappointed in that regard. None of the matches reached the 17th hole while three of them ended before the 15th hole.

The tensions between the far-left and more establishment wings of the Democratic Party are not going away, as evidenced by some sharp comments from former presidential nominee Hillary Clinton this week.
Clinton lamented during a Friday interview that the far-left doesn't fall in line and support establishment Democrats as figures like Hasan Piker are demanding fealty, while also warning Republican attacks on hard-left socialists could be "very effective."
"Pivot" podcast host Kara Swisher noted to Clinton that the Democratic Party is having a tense internal struggle between its more establishment and progressive wings to the point that Republican opposition has learned to capitalize on it.
"I think there's no doubt that, you know, the Republican Party is the Trump cult and the Democratic Party is a bigger tent. You know, we do have a broad cross-section of people, what they believe, what their experiences are. I think that's an advantage," Clinton said. "But we also have to win general elections."
Clinton noted that many Democrats now will have to learn to pivot and support the progressive Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed's campaign to defeat Republican Mike Rogers, while El-Sayed's supporters will have to learn how to re-integrate defeated Haley Stevens and her supporters who they were "vilifying" online and in person.

Texas A&M coach Mike Elko and his staff are close to wrapping up the No. 1-ranked 2027 recruiting class, and as soon as the 2026 season kicks off against Missouri State on Saturday, Sept. 5, the 2028 recruiting class will become the focus, but won't include five-star cornerback A'mir Sears, who reclassified to the 2027 cycle and will announce his commitment on Friday.
Last week, it was revealed that two Aggie legacies in the 2028 class received predictions to land with Texas A&M, as four-star running back Ian Thomas and four-star wide receiver and track star Dillon Mitchell descend from two former A&M starters in the 1990s.
On Wednesday, On3 insider Sam Speigelman released his latest set of predictions for 19 prospects in the 2028 class, with Dillon Mitchell receiving a 75% confidence level from Speigelman to commit to the Aggies. Even more impressive, Texas A&M is listed as the "biggest threat" to secure commitments from four-star OT Jai'storm Knight, four-star athlete CJ Whaley, four-star DL Logan Lokey, four-star Edge Braydon Robinson, and three-star CB Kameron Grisby.
None of this is surprising given Mike Elko's success in the 2027 cycle, building strong and lasting relationships with all 26 commitments, with nearly half shutting down their recruitments this summer.
After a record 10 players were selected in the 2026 NFL Draft back in late April, Elko further proved his ability to develop players to reach their NFL potential at nearly every position, and you can be sure every current high school prospect will be paying attention if Elko continues to send double-digit recruits and transfer additions to the league.

Retiring Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., has abandoned his neutrality in Michigan's high-stakes Democratic Senate primary, backing U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens as party leaders rally to stop progressive rival Abdul El-Sayed from winning the nomination.
Peters, who is retiring after two terms in the Senate, announced the endorsement Monday, saying Stevens "will be ready on day one to fight for Michigan." The move reverses his position from late May, when he told The ****** ociated Press he planned to stay neutral in the Aug. 4 primary.
Democrats are eager to keep the Michigan seat as they try to win back the Senate majority, and many party leaders have lined up behind Stevens, a four-term congresswoman they see as a stronger general election candidate.

Stevens has centered her campaign on manufacturing, jobs and Michigan's auto industry. He has also made the war in Gaza a central issue in his campaign, highlighting a divide that has surfaced within the Democratic Party.

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) — Michigan Democrat Mallory McMorrow suspended her campaign for the U.S. Senate on Sunday, abruptly reshaping the party primary just a month before the election and leaving a two-person contest between moderate Haley Stevens and progressive Abdul El-Sayed.
McMorrow's exit comes after many Democrats increasingly viewed her as a long shot for the nomination. It also creates a fresh dynamic in one of the country's most closely watched Senate races, forcing Democratic voters into a direct choice between Stevens, a mainstream congresswoman backed by much of the party establishment, and El-Sayed, supported by many progressive movement leaders.
The binary choice will be on full display Tuesday, when Stevens and El-Sayed are set to face off in a televised debate. During a May debate, El-Sayed repeatedly went on the offensive against Stevens, who mostly declined to engage directly with him.
McMorrow's departure could also prompt influential Democrats in the state to announce their support for Stevens because of concerns about El-Sayed's electability in a general election. Some had stayed on the sidelines because of relationships with McMorrow.
The seat being vacated by Democratic Sen. Gary Peters is one that the party must hold if it hopes to reclaim the Senate majority in this fall's midterm elections. The primary winner is expected to face Republican Mike Rogers, who lost to now-Sen. Elissa Slotkin in 2024.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound prospect is from Howard High School in Macon, Georgia. 247Sports ranks him as the No. 4 safety in the class and No. 6 player in Georgia.
Tennessee offered Poole a scholarship on Feb. 21, 2025. He has visited the Vols three times, including an official visit on June 5.
UNLV was the first school to offer Poole a scholarship on Aug. 1, 2024. Other Power Four schools to offer him scholarships include Louisville, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Auburn, Missouri, Miami, North Carolina State, Kentucky, Nebraska, Florida, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, North Carolina, Penn State, Ole Miss, Indiana, Mississippi State, Wake Forest, Alabama, Virginia Tech and Clemson.
